I like the word that comes from genomics.

Lizard or chameleon (scientifically known as Trioceros ellioti).

Chimera Linux comes from to Spain.

It is an independent, built from scratch, a rolling release Linux distribution. It is highly unique because it discards the traditional GNU Userland and Systemd, replacing them with Free BSD based core utilities, the musl C library, the LLVM compiler tool chain, and the dinit service manager to create a clean, lean, and modern operating system.

Developed as a general purpose system, Chimera has a heavy focus on conceptual simplicity and high quality software design.

No GNU Userland:

It uses FreeBSD core utilities (like sed and grep) instead of the traditional GNU coreutils, which the developers argue provides a cleaner, faster, and more unified foundation.

LLVM-Built:

The entire system is built from scratch using the modern LLVM compiler toolchain rather than GCC.

Lightweight Init:

Replaces SystemD with dinit, a lean and fast dependency based service manager.

Cross-Architecture Support:

It supports a wide range of platforms including x86-64, ARM AArch64, RISC-V, and PowerPC.

It uses apk-tools (from Alpine Linux) along with its own custom source packaging system,

While it offers a fresh, BSD-flavoured spin on Linux, it provides a fully featured desktop environment (with GNOME as the official default) that makes it practical for daily use.
