Gnoppix has done a Good Job

Gnoppix has done a Good Job

1. It is Debian 12 based.

2. It now looks like another Linux distribution.

Good on them.

3. Wireless configuration is smooth.

4. Application arrangement is simplified.

5. Does no have unnecessary glamour of KDE.

6. It has Gparted.

7. Installer is Calamara.

8. It identifies all my partitions but asks for root password which is good.

9. It has GDebi

10. It has Synaptic package a manager.

11. I am going to install it to see how it functions on day to day life.

12. It looks slim and minimal like ARCH Linux.

13. Downside one root user and no user logging.

14. AI enhanced which I have not tested, yet.

15. Installation failed. I'll try again,

I think in their hast to make it public they have left of some critical components.

Besides, it may be enticing Microsoft Windows guys not the Linux Base.

It may be also due to ditching Debian and going for ARCH base when even a loos of single file halts the installation.

My advice, DO NOT TRY this distribution, if YOU are a nervy Guy or Girl.

Right for Life

Introduction is lengthy but latter part is spicy.

My philosophy is masterly inactivity as far as the mother nature is concerned.

Another idea that springs out of that philosophy is, every life form has the right to live its entire life cycle without hindrance.

Unlike in Buddhism I have extended it to the plant family taking a cue from Darwin.

So killing life (not plants) for food, I abhor.

This has nothing to do with religion and like human rights there should be animal rights not only for cats and dogs (what about chickens, almost flightless bird).

Now with the rain coming in and not enough sunlight shining down catastrophe was about to hit my guppy fish population.

I have had enough past experience.

I lost almost entire population of Green Swordtails.

My first interest is not fish keeping but looking after water plants which has extended to water lilies.

I keep fish to control mosquitoes.

That has given me lot of problems.

When they start dying, they die in large numbers, since they do not have a powerful immune response.

So, I decided to use the air compressor for two fish tanks (instead of one) using a T connector but that piece of Chinese T connector (unlike coming from the West) did not work even for a week and the fish start showing signs of ill health.

Sure enough they started dying.

I gave up fish keeping totally, except guppies.

Immediately removed the ill functioning T connector and used a spare air compressor to pump air to the second tank.

This Chinese made air copressor had two outlets but only one would work after six months.

Even the death of fish touches my heart (I go into overdrive).

That is the entry point for the spicy stuff.

While I was attending to the fish tank, wife came and showed me a photograph of the garden created at the site of Bogambara Prison Complex.

This was built by the British, and I hated it from my school days and I voiced an opinion that it should be removed forthright (a prime land in the center of the City).

Nobody cared to remove it for over 65 years.

It was an eyesore.

I visited this place with the first opportunity I had.
One of my friends became the Prison doctor who had to certify the death of the prisoner (he hated the job within few months- he wanted to stay in Kandy) after execution.

If I remember right Somara (not sure) and Maru Sira were executed there.

It was an appalling site to wonder around.

I told my wife just imagine the plight of the prisoner there waiting for execution.

Can a true Buddhist watch an execution?

Our current (probably future presidents, too) can do that without revulsion.

I will never visit this park and I do bypass this track if I have to visit the hospital.

It reminds me of the painful past at first site which no one can erase with rose buds on plant beds.

Nobody has the right to kill any living being.

It is bordering psychopathy.

Anarchy

Anarchy

A state of disorder due to absence or non-recognition of authority or other controlling systems.
I refer the word, the chaos or the disorder with scientific connotation and how the our universe operates in its day to day affairs from quasars to pulsars to black holes in evolution.
Mind you the order is only seen in the biological systems apparently of recent origin and development, whereas the disorder is seen in the human thinking especially in economic and political affairs.
synonyms:
lawlessness,
absence of government,
nihilism,
mobocracy,
revolution,
insurrection,
riot,
rebellion,
mutiny,
disorder,
disorganization,
misrule,
chaos,
tumult,
turmoil,
mayhem,
pandemonium

Antonyms
government,
order
absence of government and absolute freedom of the individual, regarded as a political ideal.
Let me introduce myself.

I am not a politician but a scientific and analytical thinker.

My observations are based on real life stories coming from a short history of medical teaching and long history of medical career in many fields including being myself a flying doctor (Korean War is an analogy but not a participant).

Example is Ceylon
The expression is the classic example of “Failed State” having disbanded the democratic first pass the post parliamentary democracy for autocratic anarchic rulers hiding behind saffron cloth and other garbs of religious fanatical nature.
Solution drop or severe the connection of religions and state and go back to the real democracy with equality, brotherhood and liberty.
The last three elements are not seen anywhere in this world.
That is the entry point for my short discussion.
Let me summarize the world history, demography, economics and political outcomes.
1. Autocracy without meritocracy
2. Theocracy
3. Firm embrace of theology and autocracy
4. French Revolution
5. Brief Period of Renaissance
6. Expansion of British Empire
7. Two Wold Wars without any objective reasons
8. Total Embrace of Capitalism
9. Marxist Theory of Capitalism
10. Emergence of socialism and communism
11. Failed state of Russia with Socialism and Orthodox Religion
12. American (IMF and World Bank) Global Economic Empire
13.Plunder of the Oil Capital of the Middle East with the help of Israel and Lebanon
14. Collapse of Capitalism and Communism in Europe
15. European Union
16.Emergence of Chinese communism with economic recovery (but with slavery and no political freedom for subjects)
17. Hongkong Acquisition by Mainland China and Current Unrest
Acquisition of mainland Tibet was the preview of the Hongkong current scenario.
18. Italian Mafia
19. Russian and East European Mafiosi
20. Religious Mafiosi in Myanmar
21. Middle East Mafiosi and Vatican Mafiosi
22. Collapse of the American Capitalism and emergence of Donald Trump and White Supremacy and Populism
23. When the West collapses China too will collapse
24. Domino Effect
25. Total Anarchy or Chaos

I may have missed few points but that is beside the point.

Ceylon has gone from relative pruned Marxism to Capitalism to two or three insurgencies and currently religions mafiosi (all three religions).

This all started with JRJ’s grand and critically failed political and economic plan (called liberalism for the few and anarchy for the rest) aided by IMF and World Bank with European union fiddling with LTTE.

In 70 years we are in total debt for 100 years or more with school children using tablets to learn failed American capitalism.
We created a constitution to prune (abolition was the original target) the post of presidency but still the anarchy rule sway.
There are over 20 guys contesting and none of these guys have any knowledge of any of the 25 points highlighted above.
Do not waste your vote.

Choose the best guy out of the totally rotten lot.

Strangely not a single girl.
Are the totally trapped or very intelligent in demeanor?

Linux in Local Languages (Sinhala)

Linux in Local Languages (Sinhala)

In Ceylon only 32 people were using Linux exclusively and I gave up supporting local users.

Wikipeada Comment
The collaborative nature of free software development allows distributed teams to perform language localization of some Linux distributions for use in locales where localizing proprietary systems would not be cost-effective

Knoppix was the first Live CD I used and it is the best coming from Germany (in English and German).

There was a Medical Knoppix, too.

I have misplaced these CDs.

Soon I went to Puppy Linux (coming from Australia) and is my favorite.

Those days carrying a Linux distribution in 100 MiB USB stick was impossible.

Wikipeada comment

For example, the Sinhalese language version of the Knoppix distribution became available significantly before Microsoft translated Windows XP into Sinhalese.

This was the work of Anuradha.

Wikipeada comment
In this case the Lanka Linux User Group played a major part in developing the localized system by combining the knowledge of university professors, linguists, and local developers.

Unfortunately, Lanka Linux Developers went for Fedora.

They should have teamed up with Debian Linux.
Debian has over 60,000 packages and sadly its developer committed suicide after an altercation with US police.

Why they stuck with Fedora (Community version of Redhat), I do not know.

I started with Redhat with 8 version but gave as soon as it was bought up by a giant commercial company

It changed hand several times.

Centos Os distribution was a failure in my opinion.

Linux Bible was my Guru and I continued subscribing Linux magazine till lately.
It also comes from Germany.

How I use my computer as a heater to warm me

How I use my computer as a heater to warm me

Internet is down to snail pace and I decided to test my computer CPUs working capacity and the memory use.

All CPUs are running currently at 25-35% capacity.

Memory use was only 30% and I have to wait one solid hour to transfer my hard disk files including films to the USB stick of 16 GiBs.

The reason being to transfer them to my laptop running Debian 10.1.0 smoothly.
In case of electricity failure I could fiddle my fingers and twist my brain to write something tangible and not political, with election heating up.
Now one of those CPUs were heating up to 50 degrees and was not to my liking.
Running a simple job of transferring files consumes electricity
It is all right on a cold day but on a hot day your computer is a fire hazard.

I thought of fiddling with the processor use or speed but decided against knowing very well Linux will automatically correct the scenario.

This is the advantage of having four or more processors.

Unfortunately Microsoft cannot handle this type of work which Linux does in the background.
Time for you to learn Linux and change over to Linux if you a heavy user of your computer gadgets.

It runs for 10 years without breaking down if correctly configured.

Then I may have kicked the bucket but you can buy a new machine for your liking from the saving you have made using Linux 24/7 routine.

I have decided not to buy anymore gadgets including tablets but buy the cheapest new cellphone (in my case to play tiny games) on the market when down to half price.

But that won't warm me up but my laptop on the lap would keep me warm.

Linux Experince in a Nutshell

Linux Experince in a Nutshell

My next new year resolution is related to the incident I discovered today.
Just today I went to drop a friend of mine to the airport and being new year we arrived at the friend's place in good time.
Since I did not have a good night sleep yesterday (I was looking for various Linux gamers to download for the new year) I had a bath and had a little snooze on the arm chair.
I usually carry a book and gossip is not my pastime; I forgot the wine making book I fished out from a secondhand bookshop, unfortunately.
We had lunch and tea and all that but my friend and wife were taking an unusually long time getting ready and I was bit bored dropped into their daughters room to say hello, and found a computer and sat in front of it.
There was a glaring message saying that the hard disk is at risk and blah, blah.
Then she came in with another cup of tea before leaving and she told me that it is giving trouble and could not connect it to Internet.
I Looked at the router it was OK looking form outside (no evidence of hit by lightening) but not blinking properly and the outer panels were open pulled out the hard disk and the cable and she had another hard disk and fixed it as the slave and booted a Linux live CD (Peppermint with Google utilities) I had given him earlier.
It took a little time to configure first but in less than ten minutes with 256 RAM, I was up and running the Chromium browser and typed asokaplus and parafox.
So router part is OK and my friend was still not ready, I decided to boot the computer (XP, I believe a pirated copy vendor had installed) without the Internet cable not plugged in and I could not find any (I had given her Medi Linux disk, too but did not use it for virus check) problem and it was running well.
I booted again with Peppermint, to show how to use it, this time it quickly configured and it was up and running.

My diagnosis Microsoft secretly spying on pirated copies and infecting the hard disk and giving instructions not to recognize the router with the message I did not care to read.

Router is above the operating system and Microsoft has no right to fiddle it at that level but they are doing it on unsuspecting Sri-Lankans who are using pirated copies.
So my solution is get hold of a Linux live CD and boot it with it and go to Internet.
When using XP (pirated copies of course pull the Internet wire out, a very simple remedy).
I prefer DSL (Damn Small Linux-that is what I have given my wife) with less than 50 MiB which boots fast.
If you have enough RAM go for any Live CD I have listed in Linux 100.
The second message is to say do not use Microsoft for Internet.
Third resolution is to promote Sinhala Linux for the next 3 months and go into full hibernation so that Microsoft would not be be able to find a trace of me or my old testicles which are still producing enough testosterone to fight any villain against Linux.
If you have any brain take a few (5 enough) minutes a day and learn bit of Linux from a Live CD. It does not do any harm to your computer since it is running on RAM and there are enough forums to guide you through the early phase.

Down below is a note I sent to a Young newbie.
2 GiB is enough (not for graphic intensive windows games) for Linux except for games.
I have only one (1) GiB (4 GIB in my laptop which I use only for testing occasionally).
It is a waste of money going for more RAM with very slow Internet in Sri-Lanka.
I only use K-Torrents now and it is currently downloading at less than 5 KB/sec .
Solution is for having at least two computers.
1. For games and videos
2. Simple secondhand computer with Linux for Internet (can share with your sister or brother and family members).
3. Netbook with Android when you enter University (not now).
I have fallen out with Newtbooks and Tablets now.
Except my laptop and my daughters netbook all the computers at home are very good secondhand IBM computers (cost less than 20,000 with few updates with RAM but not graphic cards).
Secondhand desktops are good buys if you understand the hardware and look at inside before buying.
I test them with my Linux CD/DVDs before buying and there are lot of Linux utilities to test and Linux will work day and night for 10 years.
None of my computers broke down after I started using Linux (before that 3 new ones on Windows) except few graphic cards and RAM in the learning stage.
They work 24/7 schedule and the UPS battery is very important.
This is one reason I promote Linux and I do not fear viruses now.
Only down side is Games with Linux which I will probably concentrate when I retire and nothing else to do.
I have two game DVDs but I will not give it to anybody since Linux is for real and serious computing and not for games and leisure!
Never buy a secondhand laptop or netbook (I have written about secondhand laptops in my blog site).
Wait till new models come and with long battery life and you need it in the university and the government is unable to pay dons and do not expect them to help you with computers (not in Singapore though) when you eventually enter University.

Learning Linux is easy if you take one step at a time.
When I started there was nobody to guide me.
I used to read books (This is where English is important) and fast.
That is a technique (reading fast and also digesting the material) I developed on my own.
Give me any big book I will read (not from cover to cover) only what I want to solve a problem (in this case installing Linux) and pick up the important things in 3 to 4 days.
This is something essential in higher studies. One does not read for the sake of reading in science (reading in other fields including philosophy is different).

One focus on why one reads this or that and make one's own personal assessment in the course of the reading.
Early days I used to get bogged down in two or three days without any progress.
Then I take a break and think about the problem deep and somehow get to the point (D.I.Y- Do It Yourself) where I want to make progress.
It naturally comes.
We all have this natural ability but examinations do not make us better but show where we are weak.
After every examination we have to go for a higher level and a more difficult level.
Even though A Level is difficult we make life easy after the 1st year Examination.
Unfortunately 1st year examination is the most difficult for all and problem with English compounding the disability.
This is especially so in maths and IT.
Maths is difficult if one is not in it.
I was very good in my maths including applied mathematics and used to beat all in my class.
Then one day I decided to go for biology in particular (with my reading talent and the fast speed was a bonus) and without any help covered the syllabus myself (D.I.Y).
Rest was history and I never felt big but looked for the next challenge.
When you get bogged down in a mathematical problem do not try to solve it by somehow.
Think, analyze and look at the problem in a different way.
There is always several ways of solving problems and try to grasp the concept.
What I find in my teaching in the University is students struggle to grasp key points an concepts.
Not like our time.
I do not know why?
Other problem is they cannot read a manual and follow instructions according to the manual and instructions.
This is where reading is important.
So concentrate on your mathematics and English.
Rest will follow.
Linux take as a problem and a hobby to take a break from your studies.
Do not make it your first interest.
But keep trying and look at where you go wrong.
This talent is essential in IT.
There is something called fixing bugs.
This is where both mathematical concepts and programming merge.
Even though I do not write programs, I am good looking at bugs.
That probably has come from my analytical skills learnt from pathology.
Try to be a problem analyst.
The term in IT is system analyst.
If a server breaks down one has to find where and when and what has gone wrong?
Without trying to spoon feed I have given you a list or methods that I have used to solve my problem with Linux.
You try all and decide what is good for you.
One is enough at an examination but in teaching (as a teacher I have to cater for different type of students) one has to look at the global picture and focus on different aspects of a problem.
That is the difference between a student and a teacher.
It is sometimes very hard to become a good teacher.
If am given a chance I prefer to be a student.
That is where I always enjoyed.
But having to teach a brighter student is a blessing.
Linus Torvalds, I like him the most because he showed that his professor was wrong.
There are many ways to solve a given problem.
Not one professors given method.
This is how the business world operate and there are Teams and not Lords.

Truth Embargo

About Moon Landing

It is very difficult to fathom that the mankind can penetrate Van Allen Belt without a shield, which they did in 1960s!

One has to penetrate the Truth Protecting Layers of secrecy  of NASA program

Why they could not repeat the feat for another 25 years of advancement is a big unanswered question.

First, it is ridiculed;

Then it is violently opposed;

Finally it is accepted as self-evident.”

“In an age of universal deceit, telling the Truth is a revolutionary act.”

“Whoever controls the past, controls the future.”

George Orwell-

One of the saddest lessons of history is this:

If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle.

We’re no longer interested in finding out the Truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken.

Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.”

Lessons for Ceylon from President Trump’s Impeachment

I will make a strategic install for future reference for political analysis later but let me say what will happen in America (my gut feelings).

In America, there are three institutions, the Senate, The House and the Judiciary.

Currently Executive Presidency is above two of those institutions except the Judiciary.

The judiciary is independent and see what is happening to former FBI director and the whistle -blowers.

Outcome That I got WRONG!

1. Republican party will win a working majority both in Senate and House in 2020. They do not need 2/3rd majority.

2. President Trump will keep his promises to the masses who voted for him and will vote for him.

3.Democratic party will try to pull the rug under and maintain a low status quo (no quid for pro at all) to stop him in vain.

4. President Trump will sail through the obstacles in his second term much more vigorously than in his first term.

5. He will leave white house for good not leaving his children or inlaws as heir to the "Throne".

6. Mrs. Nacncy Pelosi and Mr. Joe Biden will bite the dust blown by the impeachment fiasco.

In Ceylon we have only one whistle blower with credible recordings unlike in US.

He is called Mr. Ranjan Ramanayake and he is in Prison for whistling a bit of data.

1. In Ceylon S.L.P.P might come into power well short of two third majority (thanks to RR=Raja) in parliament in 2020.

The S.L.F.P will be on course for a natural and slow death under M.S.

Thanks to using National ID that rigging is impossible but intimidation of military style will happen in the North and the East.

2. Winning S.L.P.P. will not keep it promises after the election due to the Debt Trap of their own creation.

3. Losing U.N.P. and J.V.P. cannot pull the rug under due to military style discipline by those in power and media moguls.

4. MR won’t be able to sail through the Debt Trap.
China and India will exploit the Ceylon Predicament and own valuable assets (airports, ports and sea) and will compete with USA for strategic exploitation of our weaknesses.

The I.M.F. will look the other way due to L.T.T.E. inputs.

5. MR and his exclusive family members want to ascend to the heir and owners of the throne.

5. Buddhist monks will encroach on civil liberty like in Myanmar and want to keep this family on the throne and all other religions will have to be subservient (no freedom for worship, no freedom to speak, and no ability to escape from poverty).
But these monks will become fat both in size and political pull.
The bottom line scenario is for the average voter to be so poor with only hand to mouth existence, so that the rich can acquire more merits by giving them crumbs and leftovers after they place this family on the throne for ever.

Prosperity for a limited few and absolute poverty for the rest
.

Now my "Strategic Install" or input for budding politicians!

1. Form a coalition for abolishing the Post of Presidency and sending all culprits of Auditor General report to prison just like they sent R.R. to prison for listening to private data.

Getting the 50% is chicken feed; the disadvantages and lack of checks and balances of the constitution (unlike in America) has been evaluated in detail for over 20 years.

Judiciary is not (R.Rs assertion) independent but thorn (not a jewel) in the flesh of democracy (according to Victor Ivan only the Podians (4% of the total convictions go to prison) go to the jail and Bond Scams and Auditor General’s independent report will gather dust.

This happens, the moment the parliament is dissolved.

I believe L.T.T.E came into existence due to J.R.J’s stupid constitution.

2. We do not need 2/3rd majority now that the L.T.T.E and J.V.P. are no more a threat.

3. Only threat is going back to J.R.J’s constitution or making a much more worse constitution to please Buddhist Monks and installing a new king with Dasa Raja Dhamma (failed J.R.J exercise).

I do not know where Victor Ivan stands politically on these issues, now.

Reproduction

American Brain Waves

I have chosen the above title to show how we follow the American Hegemony.
The Current need is alternative Energy Sources!
We are not investing on Solar Power.
Why I do not know?

Below are two my old pieces reproduced.
They are in a private domain and not visible in public domain.

Human Destiny

It looks likes human needs take paramount importance.
The needs of other living beings on this planet is no concern.
Human needs are not measured by bare existence but by uncontrolled desire, greed and exploitation of the very environment he lives in.

He is not very responsible but very erratic in behaviour.
He explores and expands both in numbers and the spheres of influence.

When the going is good he expands and when the going is bad he perseveres at the expense of all other beings.

Human is the only species known to eats its own beings and all the other edible beings.

He does not spare anything that this earth can offer,

When the going is good it is Lancashire hotpot with lamb but when the going is bad it is only potato hotpot.

His culinary desires which includes cannibalism speaks of his destructive nature.

How can we say he is a rational being?

Only rationality is his own existence at the expense of sometimes his own fellow beings.

Rat race and nothing but rat race.

That is the virtue of all powerful capitalism, power and wealth.

There is something wrong in this simple equation.

Expand, exploit and try to gain control at every advantage point.

He does not learn lessons from the past,

40 years ago in 1973, when oil price hike followed after the Middle est conflict he was ill prepared.

I saw what that meant for our children.

Thousands and thousand of children died of starvation and illness.

We are not ready for its repetition.

This time it is the global warming which is going to precipitate it.

40 years ago it was oil and energy and thereafter the food crisis.

When there is scarcity we tend to invest more on the same resource instead of changing to alternative resources.

In fact after the last oil crisis we had being using oil at a rate far more energetic than before.

We were not ready for the global warming.

In fact we did all to precipitate it.

Then there will be a Youth Bubble.

The rich dictators were not receptive to the needs of the poor while piling up money for their own fantasies.

How can we say man is rational.

His greed dictates the front line.
The ones who are behind the line or sitting on the bench have no say.

Unfortunately this equation is going to change.

Be prepared the human, the stupid exploiter.

Forest Harvesting
I was bit inquisitive why there are so many tornadoes and hurricanes in America.

I just went to Google Earth and had a little peep from above of North America’s, the West and the East.

There is hardly any difference in tree cover over the land, East or West.

Mostly farmland and build up areas.

That did not give me any clue to the state of the forest cover.

Then I went and searched deforestation.

Americans harvested 90% of the land in 70 years from 1850 to 1920.
Entire East was covered with Forest and fair proportion of the West was covered with primary forest.
The deforestation continued to this century and America now has mainly secondary forest covering 10% of the land.
American knew that the CO2 problem started around 1920 and continues even today due to their exploitation of fossil fuel.

Did they tell the truth to the world?

Big No.

In Sri-Lanka we had 90% forest cover until around 1850 and British started deforestation for coffee and tea cultivation

By the time they left in 1948 forest cover was over 60% but before they left they pass a law prohibiting encroachment of the Crown Land.

From 1948 to 2000 we have decimated another 40 percent especially after 1970.

We are now below the minimal threshold of 25% to maintain our rivers.

This land now can be called the People’s Land instead of the Crown Land and the tree felling and the development go on.

When the thermal power plant is operational we will be approaching 10% level which is the cut off point for desert classification.

Acid rain will do the rest even we stop cutting to Zero.

Then we can say we are better than America in case of deforestation and go for an IMF loan.

Very soon we will be no different from Dubai.

Regards to American tornadoes and hurricanes trees act as a wind breaks and control the water cycle better.
They should reforest America back to 1920 or continue to have this cycle every year.

Problem is there is no country rich American can go to avoid hurricanes since rest of the world is no better including China.

This is what I call the development of the Earth Crisis.

The prediction that world ends in 2012 should be rephrased that "The irreversible loss of biodiversity is in full swing from now onward with the global warming well established and irreversible."

We Sri-Lanksn will be drilling oil with Indian help till sun goes down.

Sources told Fox News last month that U.S. Attorney John Durham's separate, ongoing probe into potential FBI and Justice Department misconduct in the run-up to the 2016 election through the spring of 2017 has transitioned into a full-fledged criminal investigation -- and that Horowitz's report will shed light on why Durham's probe has become a criminal inquiry.

FBI AGENTS MANIPULATED FLYNN FILE, AS CLAPPER ORDERED 'KILL SHOT,' FILING SAYS
Durham has reportedly taken up Horowitz's findings concerning the falsified FISA document, meaning the ex-FBI lawyer who made the changes is now under criminal investigation. The Post indicated, however, that the document was not central to the legality of the FISA warrant obtained against Page.
Republicans have long argued that the FBI's alleged FISA abuses, which came as the bureau aggressively pursued ultimately unsubstantiated claims of criminal links between the Trump team and Russia during the 2016 presidential campaign, were politically motivated.
In recent months, a series of unearthed documents has strengthened those claims.
Just nine days before the FBI applied for its first FISA warrant to surveil Page, bureau officials were battling with a senior Justice Department official who had "continued concerns" about the "possible bias" of a source pivotal to the application, according to internal text messages previously obtained by Fox News.

FBI email chain may provide most damning evidence of FISA abuses yet

By John Solomon Opinion Contributor
Just before Thanksgiving, House Republicans amended the list of documents they’d like President Trump to declassify in the Russia investigation. With little fanfare or explanation, the lawmakers, led by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), added a string of emails between the FBI and the Department of Justice (DOJ) to their wish list.
Sources tell me the targeted documents may provide the most damning evidence to date of potential abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), evidence that has been kept from the majority of members of Congress for more than two years.
The email exchanges included then-FBI Director James Comey, key FBI investigators in the Russia probe and lawyers in the DOJ’s national security division, and they occurred in early to mid-October, before the FBI successfully secured a FISA warrant to spy on Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.
The email exchanges show the FBI was aware — before it secured the now-infamous warrant — that there were intelligence community concerns about the reliability of the main evidence used to support it: the Christopher Steele dossier.
The exchanges also indicate FBI officials were aware that Steele, the former MI6 British intelligence operative then working as a confidential human source for the bureau, had contacts with news media reporters before the FISA warrant was secured.
The FBI fired Steele on Nov. 1, 2016 — two weeks after securing the warrant — on the grounds that he had unauthorized contacts with the news media.
But the FBI withheld from the American public and Congress, until months later, that Steele had been paid to find his dirt on Trump by a firm doing political opposition research for the Democratic Party and for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, and that Steele himself harbored hatred for Trump.
If the FBI knew of his media contacts and the concerns about the reliability of his dossier before seeking the warrant, it would constitute a serious breach of FISA regulations and the trust that the FISA court places in the FBI.
That’s because the FBI has an obligation to certify to the court before it approves FISA warrants that its evidence is verified, and to alert the judges to any flaws in its evidence or information that suggest the target might be innocent.
We now know the FBI used an article from Yahoo News as independent corroboration for the Steele dossier when, in fact, Steele had talked to the news outlet.
If the FBI knew Steele had that media contact before it submitted the article, it likely would be guilty of circular intelligence reporting, a forbidden tactic in which two pieces of evidence are portrayed as independent corroboration when, in fact, they originated from the same source.
These issues are why the FBI email chain, kept from most members of Congress for the past two years, suddenly landed on the declassification list.
The addition to the list also comes at a sensitive time, as House Republicans prepare on Friday to question Comey, who signed off on the FISA warrant while remaining an outlier in the intelligence community about the Steele dossier.
Most intelligence officials, such as former CIA Director John Brennan and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, have embraced the concerns laid out in the Steele dossier of possible — but still unproven — collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.
Yet, 10 months after the probe started and a month after Robert Mueller was named special counsel in the Russia probe, Comey cast doubt on the the Steele dossier, calling it “unverified” and “salacious” in sworn testimony before Congress.
Former FBI lawyer Lisa Page further corroborated Comey’s concerns in recent testimony before House lawmakers, revealing that the FBI had not corroborated the collusion charges by May 2017, despite nine months of exhaustive counterintelligence investigation.
Lawmakers now want to question Comey about whether the information in the October email string contributed to the former FBI director’s assessment.
The question long has lingered about when the doubts inside the FBI first surfaced about the allegations in the Steele dossier.
Sources tell me the email chain provides the most direct evidence that the bureau, and possibly the DOJ, had reasons to doubt the Steele dossier before the FISA warrant was secured.
Sources say the specifics of the email chain remain classified, but its general sentiments about the Steele dossier and the media contacts have been discussed in nonclassified settings.
“If these documents are released, the American public will have clear and convincing evidence to see the FISA warrant that escalated the Russia probe just before Election Day was flawed and the judges [were] misled,” one knowledgeable source told me.
Congressional investigators also have growing evidence that some evidence inserted into the fourth and final application for the FISA — a document signed by current Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein — was suspect.
Nunes hinted as much himself in comments he made on Sean Hannity’s Fox News TV show on Nov. 20, when he disclosed the FBI email string was added to the declassification request. The release of the documents will “give finality to everyone who wants to know what their government did to a political campaign” and verify that the Trump campaign did not collude with Russia during the election, Nunes said.
As more of the secret evidence used to justify the Russia probe becomes public, an increasingly dark portrait of the FBI’s conduct emerges.
The bureau, under a Democratic-controlled Justice Department, sought a warrant to spy on the duly nominated GOP candidate for president in the final weeks of the 2016 election, based on evidence that was generated under a contract paid by his political opponent.
That evidence, the Steele dossier, was not fully vetted by the bureau and was deemed unverified months after the warrant was issued.
At least one news article was used in the FISA warrant to bolster the dossier as independent corroboration when, it fact, it was traced to a news organization that had been in contact with Steele, creating a high likelihood it was circular intelligence reporting.
And the entire warrant, the FBI’s own document shows, was being rushed to approval by two agents who hated Trump and stated in their own texts that they wanted to “stop” the Republican from becoming president.
If ever there were grounds to investigate the investigators, these facts provide the justification.
Director Comey and Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein likely hold the answers, as do the still-classified documents.
It’s time all three be put under a public microscope.
