I Decided to check the best Gamers Linux

I Decided to check the best Gamers Linux

This is having ignored the Steam OS who never kept the promise to release a OS for the public.

Valve never kept that promise.

1. SparkyLinux GameOver comes the Last.

2. Closely followed by Fedora Free version available at FOSS Torrents.

3. ARCH Linux Old Gamer

4. Nobara comes on top of SuSe Linux comes on top

5. Ubuntu fails miserably and it does not have any.

Gorilla at the Dinner Party

Gorilla at the Dinner Party

Gorilla in the Dinner party is the best analogy, classification wise, I can give to Word 2007 for its craving for RAM when used.

Unfortunately Open Office also fall into this family of Human Computer Descender (H.C.D for short).

I thought of using the primate family for classification of X-Windows on Desktops and accidentally found bonobo (Linux terminology) was one of our ascendant / descendant primates in evolution.

I am currently downloading
KDE 4 and fondly name it as the Gorilla of the X-Windows family of descendants.

I have gibbons, orangutans, chimpanzees to add to the family tree.

1. Bonobo is for Fluxbox.

2. Chimpanzee for XFCE

3. Orangutans for the LXDE (our closest ancestor).

4. Mandrill for Gnome

5. Gorilla for KDE of PClinuxFullMonty

I have used all of them but have settled down with mandrills.

This classification is better that the weight class category of human boxers and I will work on this quietly in my reviews in the future.

I welcome your suggestions for the family tree of descendants.

Monkey weight categories range from the tiny, 90 marmosets to the large, 34Kg mandrills, which are the largest monkey species, though some male proboscis monkeys can weigh up to 22.68Kg.

While there is no formal weight based classification, monkeys can be broadly categorized as Small New World monkeys (e.g., marmosets), Large New World monkeys (e.g., spider monkeys), and Old World monkeys (e.g., mandrills and proboscis monkeys), which include the largest species.

Classification Basics
Order Primates:

Monkeys, apes, and humans are all primates.

Suborder Haplorhini:

This suborder includes monkeys, apes, and tarsiers.
Two main groups: Monkeys are divided into two primary groups: New World monkeys (from the Americas) and Old World monkeys (from Africa and Asia).

Examples by Size

Smallest:

Pygmy Marmosets: Weigh around 90g (3 ounces).

Largest:

Mandrills: These Old World monkeys are the largest monkey species, weighing over 34Kg (75 pounds).

Proboscis Monkeys:

Male proboscis monkeys can reach up to 22.68Kg (50 pounds).

Intermediate Sizes:

Spider Monkeys:

These New World monkeys are among the largest New World monkeys, often weighing up to 9Kg (20 pounds).

Monkeys vary significantly in weight, from under 100g to over 30Kg.

The largest species, such as mandrills and male proboscis monkeys, are Old World monkeys.

There is no formal classification system based on weight, but size is a distinguishing factor within the broader categories of New World and Old World monkeys.

51-ADIOS-6.2
ADIOS Linux is a Fedora based Linux distribution slanted for education purposes.
It boots up and connects to internet fast.
However it is not possible to pack enough educational utilities in 700 MiB.
As a distribution it is stable coming from Redhat lineage.
But compared to Qimo Fedora has not produced enough educational utilities.

50-ToorOS-50
One of the best Genitoo based CDs which comes from Germany.

It has amazingly good throughput.

Like KDE which originally came from Germany (Knoppix included) the Linux guys and girls in Germany are very good and a well organized lot.

Thank to all of them letting the English users (failure of PCLinux-no international throughput) like me in the Asia have the opportunity to use the new developments from EU.

I had reservation on Genitoo Linux but ToorOS completely changed my mind.

Good work guys and girls.

I am waiting for Live CD from you (light weight edition), just like a-Live/ a-Linux!

49-Orion

49-Orion
One of the best Ubuntu based CDs which comes with many utilities that Backtrack has introduced.

It has amazingly good throughput.

Only blemish I found was that the password for live booting was missing.

I contacted the home (It has produced a very good PDF document) and got the details and downloaded the latest image and tested it.

All my earlier irritations (mostly due to poor internet connectivity) disappeared into thin air!
Good work guys and girls.

I am waiting for Live CD from you (light weight edition), just like a-Live, a-Linux!

48-OpenGEU

 48-OpenGEU
Another gem coming from Ubuntu family with E17-Enlightenment, X-Windows.
Breaking out of the boring brown Ubuntu it has produced an attractive live CD.
I have tried PCLinux-E17 (not quiet impressed yet) too but I have some reservation.

Both of them should look at Elive (which is the best Enlightenment package for me) and improve the out put of amazing E17.

Elive has a huge fan base due to change of its practice of letting the user uses ( test it) it before sending a donation.
This novel approach has made Linux very, very, user friendly.

Who will by a product without testing?

This is the failure on the part of Mandriva which make the user depend on its services and no feedback is possible.

Every new donation come from a happy Linux user but not from a grumpy user who had used Microsoft before (often a pirated copy)!
I hate pirates!
Mind you this comes from France.

47-U-lite-Ubuntu-Derivative

 47-U-lite-Ubuntu-Derivative
U-lite gets lot of points from me for its light weight edition, an Ubuntu derivative.
It is fast, sleek and instantly start many utilities on RAM.
On of the best in light weight category coming out of Ubuntu Family.
I have nothing but admiration for it.

46-aLinux-LiveCD-46

46-aLinux-LiveCD-46
I downloaded at least 4 different aLnux CDs and none of them kept the promise the peanut Linux (small and efficient) from which it originated.
There was a problem with restart to begin with.
Boot loader was inconsistent and could not figure out my complex (not really) partitions at boot time.
I had to re-install my favorite light weight Linux distribution soon after.
I lost interest in it but quiet by accident I found aLive in the bottom of the list of 100 Linux in Distrowatch listing.
Finally aLive (aLinux) has produced a sleek live CD and I was quiet impressed by its performance.
It has packed lot of utilities in 700MiB which is an amazing feat while having KDE as X-windows(Graphic face is very attractive).
They have done lot of original work and what I like most is its packaging of its own creations under a-Linux/ a-Live.

Now I have cleared you from some of the early blemishes (still cannot restart after a session but with a few lines in the start up script one can rectify it- in the next release) you are going to ascend in the listing of Distrowatch in no time.

I am waiting to see your next release!
Good Luck guys and girls.

45-Mandriva-45

45-Mandriva-45
Finally I managed to download a correct MiB iso and test it on my laptop.
It lacks drivers, unlike PCLinux and does not support old hardware and it hangs up on my desktop. It is heavy and lacks games.
It is very slow to boot and configure.
K3B is missing and I prefer its 2007 edition from which it has not improved due to commercial interests, I believe.
I hope I am wrong.
Knoppix 6.2 is thousands time better with many additions including virtual box and games.

44-Knoppix-6.2-44

44-Knoppix-6.2-44
Knoppix is the best Live CD available for a newbie.
It boots up fast and now I am writing this for everybody to see.
It can be mounted on a Flash drive.
Unlike old editions it can be mounted on the hard drive too.
If you decide to mount it on your hard drive make sure that you have saved all your important files!
It has virtual box and can mount other operating systems if one wishes.
The memory for the virtual box can be allocated depending on the system's availability. I am one who does not fancy this scenario. It is far better to dual boot rather than taxing the resources one has (RAM).
Well done boys and girls!

43-Paldo

43-Paldo

Pure adaptable Linux distribution, Paldo is one for the savvy.
It takes over 900 points in my scale of points. It has gparted, root and administrative functions that are basic needs of a Linux distribution, if one wants to delve into inner workings of Linux.

It has taken an innovative approach.
ScentLinux a derivative of Paldo is not a live CD but installable.

Try both and enjoy Linux.

I am looking for it's next innovation.

42-Zenwalk-42

42-Zenwalk-42
Zenwalk is a derivative of Slackware which has organized itself like a Zen Master in meditation, rigid in discipline and conduct of its affairs.

I was waiting for its next release (2010 Live CD) but it never came and I have to preempt and write something now before I forget to include it in my 100 Linux live CDs.
It is of the mold of PCLinux, innovative in one sense and conservative in another sense.

It's live CD is xfce based has everything except installation script.

It has proprietary drivers in stock and works with both old and new computers.

It has Core CD, Standard Cd, Live CD, Zencafe, a new edition and several updates of its install CD and an open box version.
It is light weight, fast to boot and connect to internet instantly and it's home page is excellent.

It has all the ingredients I look for and is stable.

If I was not hooked to PCLinux this would have been my first choice.
Please read it's reviews (from user base) before you decide on it or believe me.
Please also give a donation and I hope they come out with a Live CD with install option for me to try, soon.

Well done!

41- RIP-Linux

41- RIP-Linux
Recovery is Possible is the mission of R.I.P. Linux and stands true to it's name.

All the utilities packed in its 100 MiB Live CD is something a Linux savvy should have in his pocket Live CD.

I have not tested any of the utilities since my PCLinux 2010 does not give any headaches in spite of 200 odd downloads and the daily use and testing of other Linux distributions.
It is something a Microsoft guy should have to solve Microsoft's problems including many viruses.

It's release cycle is fast and updates come by the minute.

It rivals only the Damn Small Linux = DSL (which of course is Debian based and have very slow release cycles) which I use when I am in any trouble.

Well done!

40-Ylmf-ChineseOS-40

 Monday, July 26, 2010
40-Ylmf-ChineseOS-40
I had some difficulty downloading this partly due to the server (parent) problem and partly due to Telecoms inability to provide uninterrupted service.
Chinese developers have done a good job and hope they provide us a good server and updates.
it is Debain based and attractive adding Google services.

39-ChameleonOS

Monday, July 19, 2010
39-ChameleonOS
Mandriva, then Unity and now the next derivative lives up to its name chameleon changes its skin colour faster than it promises in its announcement.
What it has done with 500 MiB is an excellent achievement,

This is an eye candy distribution even an apple convert might enjoy.

Like PCLinux-2007 it should develop its own repository and its own community to support. No wonder it will give a healthy competition to PCLinux and a headache or two.

It should have at least 4 versions and like Netrunner2 (Mixture of KDE and Genome but heavy) take few of the Gnome packages into its armory but should not get loaded like the Netrunner2 (do not bloat it).

Make it slim and beautiful that's where LXDE is a good candidate for a different flavour.

Well done guys and girls and develop your home site accordingly to attract new fans.

I am going to be one of your fans.

38-LadyBug-Verte

 Saturday, July 17, 2010
38-LadyBug-Verte
This the French derivative of SAM 2007.
Even though it has gone beyond the 700 MiB (necessary evil when one tries to add additional languages) it is distribution that should takes its root and penetrate the French audience.
I hope French would do honours to Linux (Unlike Ulteo who is trying to shake hand with Microsoft-would be a failure-Wine is there if one wants add Microsoft flavour) by improving Lady Bug.
I know French give respect to ladies in green / orange.
They should have English too, so that they cam get help Developers who work in English.

37-NetRunner

 37-NetRunner
Net-Runner-2 is an excellent distribution for a newbie (to Linux).

Even though it is in the middle weight category (MBs) it has everything one needs if one is connected to the internet.
It is a mix of KDE 4 and Gnome without the groggy grossness (Graphic intensity) of SuSe and Mandriva on the graphic (face) front.
They have done a good job of integrating and mixing (it is neither tea nor coffee) the two.

K3B is a value added introduction.

Software management is good and in the tradition of Redhat have placed the packages in categories to select.

Only missing package for me was Skype to download. I hope they will add it next time around.

Another value added contribution is Gambase (for newbies to do visual basic like programming).

RetRunner is something one should have in one's wallet.
Change over rather the mixture (cocktail) may have teething problem but surely nothing the Linux developers cannot address.

Well done boys and girls.

36-OpenSuSe

 Friday, July 16, 2010
36-OpenSuSe
The long wait is over Open SuSe has produced a lovely Live CD that can be installed on the fly.

The addition of virtual keyboard was an exciting change.
It got almost everything perfect except for ejecting the CD after a Live session.

Go ahead and enjoy SuSe it was one of my favorite distributions when almost nothing was available until PCLinux-2007 hit the market taking over its place and the sea change Texstar started.
I am sure even Texstar would enjoy using it.

Thanks a lot to SuSe Community and all the milestone editions and the tweaking of one of the best Live CDs.

I have just downloaded the Gnome version and soon the net version.

Hope they would add an OEM version soon.

35-SuperOS

 Wednesday, July 14, 2010
35-SuperOS
SuperOS is a distribution that I have mounted on my laptop but rarely used, just to have the feel of Ubuntu for demonstrations.

It has Wine and Skype.

Open office is the hindrance to it's development.

Could have been abiword instead and added few more utilities with the new release.

I was waiting for the new release to write home about it but hardly anything new with only a graphic face lift.

The is the price one has to pay when trying to emulate Microsoft.

It probably has something for the laptops but not way above others.
It is of the middle weight category and slow to boot but I prefer it rather than Ubuntu.

My suggestion for its new release is to change it's name to something like Sensation instead of SuperOS.

Linux people should never have the Megalomaniacs names like what you get in the commercial counterparts.

It should shed some of its graphic weights and open office (get open office from its repositories) weight and include blender and gambase (Visual basic counterpart but much better) mobile media converter (like PCLinux genome edition) and iTune compatibility.

If they think like Linux mint and have few more versions including OEM edition surely it can live up to SuperOS .

I think they should drop this megalomaniac name and go something similar to Mint, Peppermint, Imagine, Element and the like.

English names are disappearing very fast.

Grab hold of one before it is too late.

My humble contribution is to go for Sensation instead.

Vanity is another name which may foot the bill but not Superman or Spiderman or Batman.

They only have a historical value.

Linux is too mature to go for Super mentality.

Linux is super anyway!

34-Debian-Live

 Saturday, July 10, 2010
Just to Illustrate again that I have been using Debian for a long time.
34-Debian-Live
Debian has entered on the Live CD Flora in style.
It has core, light weight and four (4) light middle weight versions that include, KDE. Genome. xfce and LXDE.
I like the LXDE but all are equally good and outstanding.
Being the God Father of Linux its repositories are full of utilities that nobody else can boast.
There are over 31 (I have 12 in my safe) CDs in its repertoire of repositories.
Thanks for following PCLinux's foot path to freedom.Instead of packing all X windows in one distribution robust individual x window systems is the way forward.
Do not forget its nFLUX light weight distribution.
Many thanks for your effort, you can be on par with UBUNTU your God Son soon.
Your grandsons will boast about the grandfather for many centuries to come.

33-Imagine

Monday, July 5, 2010
33-Imagine

GoblinX which was based on Slackware has changed its name to Imagine and changed its face. too.
Xfce is much better than slow to boot standard (? version 3) which was KDE.

It's about turn has made it a sleek, fast and beautiful Live CD that can be installed.

It's graphical installer is different from other partition tools.
I did not test its installation but surely coming from Slackware it must be doing its job without a problem.

It is light weight that is why like it.

Its Viking Map reader and tracer is the one, one should try for a change.
I am very much interested in Scientific and Educational packages including statistics.

This is a weak point in Linux even though there are many statistical packages no one package has taken root like SPSS.

I give 250 extra points for Viking and if they introduce a statistical package as a default I am going to use it like Berry Linux.

It must take a cue from Berry Linux which has Wine and and similar packages pre-installed.

Imagine should take a scientific lean and introduce statistics and a few scientific packages which do not consume Mib like other packages.

Good Luck and I am waiting for their next edition / version to write a review.
Give them a donation or two, too.

32-AVLinux

 Sunday, July 4, 2010
32-AVLinux
The is the best Middle Weight (version 4) category (1.7 GB) of Linux distributions that I have downloaded so far.

Nealy 12 hours of downloading it (pay for 50 bits per second but it is snail pace of 15 to 20 bits-my Linux computer records it accurately) in Sri-Lanka it was worth the wait and the weight in MBs.

The version 3 has enough utilities and is only 1.0 GB.

It has all the utilities one needs to operate an old or new computer.
It has lots of Audio and Video packages and Blender too.
(XMBC which has problems with configuring the mouse and its resource craving make one feels light weight and happy with LXDE and AVLinux).

A Debian derivative once mounted (Live or Installed) one can download a Linux iso and use Unetbooting to make a distribution that can be mounted (OLD-computer without USB booting) with a USB drive.

It is important that one understand the working of Linux before one uses this distribution especially when using Gparted.

This is a distribution for a newbie as well as a savvy.
You can connect your iPod too.
This is something I wanted badly to promote in Linux community, if one cannot change iTunes to another format why not beat it (after having bought it).

Please do not confuse with aLinux which is a peanut Linux derivative which I tried several times but have my own reservation recommending to a newbie.

Note worth Recording
I downloaded Genitoo 10.1 Live CD of 2.5 MB and found that I could not install it on hard disk.
This is what I call Heavy Weight Distributions of no use.

If few MB cannot be allocated for the Installing it is an utter waste of downloading where it takes 12 hours (Electricity Bill Sky Rocketing) to download 1.5 GB (Sri-Lanka).
India may be no better.
I downloaded six months of toil in Sri-Lanka in couple of hours in Singapore, airport included.
I wonder where the foreign aid to develop our infrastructure is going?
Our Ministers cannot even mange Sports including Cricket.
IT they do not have the knowledge of 15 year old computer kid (Wizard).
So be it!

Go and download this distribution and send a contribution too, to the developers.

I have copied its introduction from Softpedia.
Please read the full content from Softpedia.

Directly copied.

AV Linux 3.0 is a LiveDVD ISO image that is a self-contained, full-featured computer Operating System.

It was created using the Debian GNU/Linux Testing branch and Remastersys.

This Live DVD ISO image can be downloaded, burned onto any DVD-R(W) and then booted and demonstrated on virtually any recent Windows PC without any effect on the existing OS.

If the user desires it can be installed to the Hard Drive either on it's own or "dual-boot" with an existing Windows or Linux OS. Once installed AV Linux transforms the users computer into a full-blown Audio/Video Workstation ready to use!

The User Interface features the very lightweight and efficient LXDE 0.5.0 Desktop Environment.

It's well-rounded program selection covers most every common everyday computer tasks, it features a full complement of the best F/OSS Multimedia Applications available allowing users to enjoy Multitrack Audio Recording and Mixing, Video Capturing, Editing and Converting, DVD Authoring and Creation, iPod Tools and much more.

AV Linux also contains Hard Drive utilities making it an excellent troubleshooting and rescue solution.
Keep an Older PC Productive:
Computer Operating Systems continue to become more and more resource intensive, many times people upgrade their Operating Systems in the hope of improving their system only to be terribly disappointed when their existing hardware isn't sufficient to even run the supposed "upgrade".
PC's have actually been powerful enough for Multitrack Audio and DVD Video Editing since the late 1990's but with the latest Operating Systems wasting precious CPU and RAM on superficial eye candy many potentially productive computers end up being relegated to closets, basements, garages and even worse to garbage dumps and landfills.
The chilling legacy of our "disposable" societal mindset is already evident in so-called "tech dumps" in rural China and many other places intentionally well hidden from the comforts of the developed world.
By combining the general efficiency of Linux and enhancing it further with a light Desktop Environment like LXDE I consider it an AV Linux mandate to keep older PC's in daily use.
I've personally encountered dozens of people who truly believe it isn't possible to build a home recording studio without buying a brand new Mac or PC and spending thousands of dollars on commercial software.
The AV Linux Live DVD serves to demonstrate that this is not necessarily true .
There is more to read. Pleas visit Softpedia download.

31-Unity

Thursday, July 1, 2010
31-Unity
Mandriva based 238 MiB Live CD lives up to the SAM-2007 origin.

It is sleek, boots up fast, has its own Browser named Web or is it NetSurf.

It's package manger is called smart but has a limited number of packages listed.

This is good for a newbie to understand the inner working of a system that is really working and it is more than a base system.

The surfer is basic and has its own lack of cookies.

I cannot highlight a line and change the font colour (I am booted now with it but not rooted!) right now.

Hence, the font is in black.

I would have given it more marks / points if it had kept below 200 MiB so that I could have it in my shirt pocket mini CD.

It has openbox and number of other window mangers included in the smart package manager.

I would prefer this to be called the Mini Version but keep it under 200 MiB should be the aim.

I think guys / girls in the developer suite should develop this Unity (Call it Manchester United -or it's city of origin - to satisfy the football fans) into a more robust Light Weight category and then the Middle weight category and never Heavy Weight (but slow) like Mandriva and Suse.

Should take some cues from Peppermint and Element and decide when and where to dress it up for the next party or is it the next release!

It has root permission unlike in Ubuntu derivatives (which is a sad lack in spite of many derivatives of Ubuntu).

Overall it is a good distribution and I cannot find anything negative.

Now is the time to go up-staging and dress up for the party.

Thanks for your effort.

Follow the track laid down by PCLinux which is my Gold Standard and become its healthy rival.

You have your own package manger to increase your repository and talents.

Think of an O.E.M version like Untangle.

Then you are on the road to success.

Your Net-surfer is the key to success.

Good Luck.

30 - Untangle

 Wednesday, June 30, 2010
30 - Untangle
Debian has emerged victorious.

Untangle has entered the fray.
It has released its White Label.
The OEM edition.
It is sleek fast and efficient.

It is the next generation of Mini Server one can carry in a mini DVD (currently CD with 444 of MiB),

No one can beat you.

Head start is on,
Enjoy it and make a contribution too.

I give 250 points in my point scheme for OEM editions straight away.

With few more utilities a live CD based on OEM can top the 1000 marks!

29 - MonomaxOS

 Saturday, June 26, 2010
29 - MonomaxOS
If one is fed up of Suse and Mandriva (I am fed up with both of them, both while being heavy and make a point to omit good utility packages that are in the commercial versions) this one is for you.

It has shed some of its weight to 1.7 and the slimmer versions provides what Suse and Mandriva keep as commercial packages.

It has XBOX (Multimedia) for which I give 250 points and it's score is over 2000 (out of 3000 odd points which I give for a all inclusive heavy distributions).

It also has blender in it's official version and if they had put the same (blender) in the multimedia version I would have given 2500 points.

This is much better than Pardus which also come from Greece.

(I think Pardus is government sponsored and MomomaxOS is a free to make its own decisions).

Sabayon (Slakware) and Monomax (Ubuntu) are almost similar but I prefer Sabayon for its comparatively light weight strategy.

Pick is yours.

If a distribution cannot put its act together with 1.5 GB it is not worth the downloading time in this part of the world (Sri-Lanka).

Our downloading is pretty slow and servers hang up in the night!
Guys switch off the Server (Our Telecom) and go to sleep and that is the time unfortunately I download the Linux distributions for testing.

28- Sabayon

28- Sabayon
If one is fed up of Suse and Mandriva (I am fed up with both of them, both while being heavy and make a point to omit good utility packages that are in the commercial versions) this one is for you.

It has shed some of its weight from 3.5 GB to 1.7 and the slimmer versions provides what Suse and Mandriva keep as commercial packages.

It has XBOX (Multimedia) for which I give 250 points and it's score is over 1500 (out of 3000 odd points which I give for a all inclusive heavy distributions).

Sabayon (Slakware) and Monomax (Ubuntu) are almost similar but I prefer Sabayon for its comparatively light weight strategy.

If they added blender I would have given extra bonus points!

It lives with it's promise the dream we believe on!

However, it should promote the Live CD much more vigorously than the heavy DVD version.

If a distribution cannot put its act together with 1.5 GB it is not worth the downloading time in this part of the world (Sri-Lanka).

Our downloading is pretty slow and servers hand up in the night!
Guys switch off the Server (Our Telecom) and go to sleep and that is the time unfortunately I download the Linux distributions for testing.

27-Kanotix

Saturday, June 26, 2010

27-Kanotix
Kanotix is has come of age and its KDE is attractive.

Previous version I could not boot and that was one reason I did not write a review.
Now that it has resolved hardware compatibility problem, it passes the 750 point barrier I have set for live CDs.
However, it is on the heavy side being a KDE derivative.

26-DreamLinux

 26-DreamLinux
Dream Linux is also going through rapid transformation and one of those very good utilities which is little talked about because of other common live CDs.
It should be within the first 20 but marketing strategy is not up to the mark.
It is above average and I would edit this page when the version 4 is up and running.

Batosera Live on USB

It long time since I tried Batosera.
It has new images above 41 but I chose 41 and after some fiddling of the compressed image of 3.5GB it expanded to 9.1GB which I wrote to a 16GB USB.
Since, I have done this before I figured out the correct procedure.
It has 14 games pre installed.
Like EasyOS it expanded the USB to full throttle.

Problem is the games are so fast I lose.

It brings out the old nostalgia of DOS Games and Commodore Games.
It had Commodore.
Did not figure out whether I can configure the Internet.
I would do that later.

By the way, Peppermint Linux 8 boots OK but cannot configure WiFi. I am going to get it's new image from Foss Torents.
Peppermint OS is Debian based
It is only 1.5GB.
I think it comes from UK.
It is based on old kernel and even AbiWord cannot be installed.
Out of browsers only Dillo is installable

WiFi is OK.

GDebi worked OK.
AbiWord failure and on that ground alone I won't use it.
Stacer worked and I believe it old version of Debian.
With Trixie in not worth trying it.
It has nothing and not even browser like Palemoon and Midori.

By the way, Midori has a Debian Package and I installed it.
Pale moon has GTK package and it opens up but I cannot find a icon to run it.

I am Running all Linux Distributions I used in the past in BOX Utility

I am Running all Linux Distributions I used in the past in BOX Utility

All can be downloaded from Archive Linux site.  I am trying PC-BSD and TrueOS, too. I have not tried WMLinux in the past but I am downloading to have feel of the Window managers. thrying SparkyLinux5.1-GameOver.

1. First was Scientific Linux Gnome-OK

2. Second was Peppermint Linux 8-OK

3. Sparky Linux GameOver-Failure

4. TrueOS Install-OK

5. PCLinux-Failure

6. PCBSD Install-OK

I cannot believe I have tried all these in my working life.

3. Devil number three is our neighbour
India who created L.T.T.E. with the aid of Norwegians and (USA ably facilitating).

4. Devil number four are so called Norwegians who pretend to be innocent bystanders.
Bokken Kleppe is their proxy.

They are not.

They are the long arm of EU and USA conglomerate.

5. Number Five is
EU autocrats or cryptocrats.

Here Germany, France and now Spain are becoming hegemonic.

Italy with Mafia background comes fourth but is fading.

Strangely Turkey and Greeks are making inroads to upset the imbalanced EU.

Poland, Hungary, Lithuania, Romania and Latvia, the  former USSR breakaway countries are caught in the middle.

Serbia is in a mess already.

6. In this scenario Russia is the only country we could have aligned with but we never did.

Russia is not a communist country.

It is a powerful country who stood up to Hitler.

It was Russia who defeated Germany but USA and UK took the major honors.

It is now standing up to the proxy American Ukraine.

The outcome is collapse of the world order and Chinese hegemony creeping in.

China's problem is it's inferiority complex but care less to eat up any African or Asian country under duress.

China has the mentality of the Muslim vendor in Ceylon.

In the north they align with L.T.T.E. in the South they align with evil Ranil and Raja.

China  never integrate with the country of their domestication.

They are the only ones who do not participate in the cultural pageant in Kandy.

The Tamil do participate but Muslims never did.

The Chinese follow Muslim strategy.

Step in when the going is bad for the host country.

Of course they have the Mongol experience to copy.

Their space exploration should be viewed with this background.

They use the satellites to scrutinize the whole globe and whenever they find a loose joint enter there and monopolize.

The are the enemy in secret we have to worry about.

With the silk belt initiative failing, they decided to dominate the sea and air.

Creating artificial islands in Ceylon, South China and African continent, show their global nature in strategy.

That is sand mining for the chip industry.

Their ulterior motive is for global domination.

Country with a largest population in the world tries this strategy one has to  be very suspicious of their apparent neutrality.

They are becoming globalists.
Only Americans have realized this scenario.

With this background one should view the Russian President's invasion of Ukrainian.

It was inevitable.

Zelensky is a puppet on  American strings.

Whatever he touches it burns and his curse will follow.

It is pretty obvious.

We do not have top class diplomats and good counsel.

He is a global curse
and it is already too late to realize his curse with global economic meltdown and famines.

Japan is the latest casualty following, Italy and UK.

Global diplomacy is failing and I have left out Middle East and Iran.

Their oil economy will fail with the emergence of Russian influence.

With prudence and patience Russia has revisiting it's former glory.
Poland beware, do not poke the bear, the history will repeat.

One should be empathetic not jealous.

American democratic ploy failed again and Trump coming back power is inevitable.

He is in my opinion, the better of the two  Devils in America.

Unfortunately President Donald Trump is continuing what Democratic Party started.

Ibbankatuwa lena in Ceylon

 Ibbankatuwa lena in Ceylon

AI generated Information

Yes, the Ibbankatuwa lena is located in Sri Lanka, which was historically known as Ceylon.

It is an important prehistoric burial site dating back to the Early Iron Age, around 600 BC, where ashes of the dead were placed in clay pots within cist tombs formed by four large stone slabs. The site, now a protected archaeological site, contains numerous tombs and has provided evidence of early civilization and trade in Sri Lanka.

Key facts about Ibbankatuwa:

Location:

Near Dambulla in the Central Province of Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon).

Time Period:

Prehistoric megalithic period, specifically the Early Iron Age.

Purpose:

An extensive burial site containing cist tombs and urns.

Artifacts:

Excavations have found clay pots, iron and copper artifacts, beads, and even imported gemstones, suggesting trade networks.

Significance:

It is one of the largest burial sites discovered in Sri Lanka and is a key part of the country's Cultural Triangle, a major archaeological region.

Alu Lena in Ceylon

AI Generated Information

This is to support my claim that Buddhist monks torched the remains of RAVANA Tribe.

Buddhist monks are good at distorting historical facts to their advantage.
Bokken Kleppe is the current version who distorts our map to satisfy Tamil Diaspora.

Jayaratne Pathirarchchi is the real antidote to these guys with distorted minds to make money.

Bokken Kleepe is a land grabber who destroyed the land stretch in WilPattua and current Elephant problem was deliberately created for this land grabbing SAGA.
Current Anura Dissanayake (extension of Ranil Plan) is doing that in the name Cricket grounds.
Coconut triangle of Ranil is a in progress.
Ranil plan is to Donate Mihintalle to Amricans through India to have sevral airports.
All these are sordid acts that is why Ranil should never be given even a parliamentary seat.

Put him into the historical dustbin as Vasudewa Nanayakkara said, not in polite words but in vulgar words, to shame him.
Ranil is a shameless man and he cannot attract votes to UNP.  He is very GREEDY, too.

Alu Lena is an archaeological site near Kegalle in Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon), meaning "ash cave" in Sinhalese, named for the ash deposits found on its floor, which are a sign of its historic occupation.
It's a rock shelter with layered deposits containing prehistoric lithic (stone) and skeletal materials.
Another site, the Matale Alu Vihara or Aluvihara Rock Temple, is a sacred Buddhist temple that was central to the first written version of the Tipitaka, but this is a different location from the archaeological Alu Lena.

The Alu Lena Archaeological Site

Location:
Near Kegalle, in Sri Lanka.

Meaning:
The name "Alu Lena" translates to "ash cave" in the Sinhalese language.

Significance:
It is a prehistoric archaeological site where ash deposits were found on the cave floor, along with travertine, lithic (stone tools), and skeletal remains.

Discovery:
In 1954, a team led by P. E. P. Deraniyagala visited the site and found a poorly preserved human skeleton in a flexed position, covered with stones, along with shells of local mollusks.

Alu Lena vs. Aluvihara

Alu Lena:

This is an archaeological site with prehistoric human remains and ash deposits.

Aluvihara (or Matale Alu Vihara):

This is a Buddhist rock temple near Matale, known for being the site where the Tipitaka (the Buddhist scriptures) was first written on palm leaves.
The name "Aluvihara" is linked to the concept of enlightenment or "light".

It's important to distinguish between the archaeological site of Alu Lena near Kegalle and the famous Aluvihara rock temple near Matale, as they are two different locations with distinct histories.

Debian on a cellphone

 Debian on a cellphone

I think I neglected this fact since when I tried it last time on Android 13 it did not work  but Ubuntu did.

I am currently downloading the Userland from Android Application center. It is 57MB. I would report the outcome later.

YES, one can run run Linux on a Samsung Tablet.

I got my Samsung tablet from the attic but forgot to try it.

I may do it later, because it is Android 14 or 15 which I cannot find from the SETUP.
It needs at least Android 14.
I think it is Debian Buster which is Version 10.
The reason Abiword did not work on this utility proves that.
I started with Android Version 4.4 which was named  Kitkat.
My cellphone on Android 13 does not support.
There is Linux Utility called User Land.
Do not use it it.
It is taken over by Ubuntu and one has to pay for the services.
I tried using User land 10 years ago on a Nokia Phone, supporting Android 8.
I could not do anything with it and gave it up. I think it was Android version 6.
I had over 10 Nokia phones and I did not know what version they were until, this Cellphone towers reach became an issue.
Current version of Android is 15. I think my old cellphones could support up to version 9, named Pie.
Cellphones supporting version 10 to 12 were expensive and as a pensioner I could not afford them, until I decided to buy two cellphones at cut rate before leaving Ceylon to Australia.

I knew in Australia cellphones were much expensive than in Singapore.

It is the same feeling now but Debian let one installs Synaptic Package Manager and  I even Installed Abiword, focus writer and LibreOffice.
Synaptic has ton of applications to choose.
I am still learning with only mouse key to work around, it is bit of a task. My fingers are OK, having been a Pediatric guy with surgical skills but my vision is the one that handicapping me.
I had to try Debian 4 times. Debian does not support it is an old edition.
I hope Debian Developers should look into its support for cellphone.
If an old guy like me can get it going on my Samsung I think newbie can do that.
Thank you Samsung.
I even got Chromium Browser running.

I think one should Install Synaptic Package Manager first. Synaptic look for libraries and that helps the Chromium Browser.
However, font installer hung up

Linux History from 1999 to 2025

Linux History from 1999 to 2024

This piece is an antidote to some Linux Guys on YouTube ranting their prowess on a Virtual Box Terminal.

While the developers have been working hard,  I was working hard testing their products and was actually using them for productive work while having a busy medical career also teaching undergraduate students.

I could not convert any of my students to Linux but I never coerced anybody but had a healthy laugh at Window users.

They are imprisoned and in Apple terms Jail Breakers.

Even though I started with Caldera Linux, I moved to Knoppix 3.7 to Knoppix 7.1, my workhorse was Mandriva which became Mageia.

I think I started with Debian 6 but moved to Debian 11 in 2021, one year after Corona Virus pandemic.

I was down with Mortal Ill Effects of the Vaccine (wrote a book on Corona Virus the moment, I recovered from the clinical episode, this
Fousi Guy almost killed me) and fortunately 2020 was the rest year for Debian and did not miss much.

Ever since, I had been  involved with Debian Gnome.

Having said that, I had a brief encounter with Solaris and they in fact send me a DVD free.

I had a brief encounter with Free BSD (not PC BSD) when the Microsoft Boot record did not let me erase its BIOS record to install Linux in my Laptop.

If I remember right, I erased Microsoft proprietary hold (after all I bought it, and it is my property not Microsoft's) it through Internet using Live Free BSD session connected to the Internet.

Thank YOU Free BSD.

The Laptop has Endless installed in it now.

This is copied from a French article and French do not use capital letters in the middle of a document. I would correct them one word at a time.

I never had the opportunity to try Mandrake Gold Edition.

I was never involved in Ubuntu but I had all its versions from 6.1 (Given free by Mark Shuttleworh with thank YOU).

You should understand why I have over 400 CD/DVDs in my possession.

2021 to this day

Debian 11

It is one of my instances of 4 Debian installed and Debian 12 is the third instance in current use in my NUC.

Now I have MX Linux, 25.3
Netrunner and
Two Debian instances.

2025

Early 2025  and may be January "Trixie Testing" and from June, 2025 Debian 13, Gnome.

My Debian connection is historical

I thought, I started using Debian from Version from version 10,

No but version 7 and may be even version 6 which I cannot member.

My Debian connection is historical
This is just ti reiterate that my connection with Debian is not casual but historical

 Debian 6.0 In Sinhala-Sinhala Linux

I can now report to you that Debian DVD 1 (one of many) has Sinhala capability and is available at LinuxTracker with many seeders and one can download it in less than 24 hours.

Please do not go for point to pint download or slt.net.

The good news is that I have now installed Debian in Sinhala with Sinhala drop down menu (mixture of Sinhala and English) and it is amazingly good.

It is Gnome but I will miss K3B but the Debian Sinhala is going to stay in my main computer from now onward and I will be reporting bugs if I detect any.

I hope, in its next edition, it drops Openoffice and go for LibreOffice.

In any case, it is going to improve my Sinhala leaps and bounds.

Thank you Debian and the Translator Team.

I have no hesitation in recommending it’s use but with one or two advice and some warning is in order.

Please get a proficient Linux guy / girl to install it and do not copy the DVD with Nero.

For best use one must have an internet connection when one installs it and Debian configures the card automatically (better have a router instead of telephone connection) in its initial install and please have patience, it takes a fairly long time to install (do it in the night when internet is not busy).

With those provisos HAPPY SINHALA LINUX for all.

Mind you this was edited with Sinhala Linux activated and Debian’s Iceweasel on the web track.

Old Note on the CD

Now I have tried installing Debian 6 in Sinhala, I can report back and say it can be done but prior understanding of Linux and how Debian does things is essential.

I also have to report that the 4 CD / DVD that I downloaded is not available in Linuxtracker due to unfortunate incidents there.

It is up and running but it will be sometime before all Debian CD/DVDs are restored for download.
Moment I have good news I will be posting it here and elsewhere.
I have to tell you that I had to format my hard disks and redo all the installations new.

It is all fun and game in Linux but took lot of my spare time and not having interesting cricket matches to watch was a bonus.

Everything went on smoothly and I was expecting to work in Sinhala after the installation but sadly it was not to be.

I could not select Sinhala at boot time and none of the Linux distributions let you do that currently and even though many of the Linux distributions have the multilingual capacity, Sinhala has not been promoted in the web world outside Sri-lanka.

I am afraid lot of translation work has to be done in legible and lexicographical world of Sinhala and enough Sinhala fonts have to be installed in the usr/src folders.

Coding for fonts and character map is now available but translation of computer terminology is extremely difficult and many thanks for the guys and girls for trying it.

I enjoyed installing it in Sinhala with my limited ability in Sinhala but lot of guess work, in doing so but having known Debian for a long time and had sweated a lot learning Linux, a little over decade ago, the guess work (Sinhala terms) did work.

This gives an opportunity to learn how Linux works especially Debian for one who has difficulty in English language.

But my advice for all is one should be proficient in both Sinhala and English to be a successful translator and Learning Linux in that process is an added bonus.

I am not at all good in Sinhala to be of any help to you but I am there to test the capability of Sinhala in Linux and report to the wider web.

Thanks again guys and girls for trying a very difficult task.

With good team work and perseverance it can be accomplished and good luck with your future efforts.

Debian is the best Linux distribution to learn nuts and bolts of Linux, even though it is bit difficult to master it and the learning curve is steep at the beginning but it invariably drops quickly after the first year of trying.

Do not give up your efforts of Learning Linux in Sinhala and English too.

Debian is Fabulous

This is going to be bit lengthy.
It was not my design.
But rain and elections had given me
some welcome respite.

1.Rain
Rain is something I predicted many years ago.
Some of my predictions are in my book “Sri-Lankan Water Politics and Water Logic”.

No help from astrologers
No Thank You.

This is mostly due to Global Warming.
I have already voiced my opinion elsewhere, no need to repeat.

In 1957 we moved to Kandy.

We only managed to get our belonging inside and it started raining for 10 days continuously.

That was the biggest floods in my living memory.

The Kalani River overflew.

2.Politics

Regards to the elections, this is the most boring election campaign in my living memory.
It looks like our minds are frozen with “War and Hate” or is it  “
Hate of
War
Rainbow coalition has their work cut short due to bungling of the election commissioner's department and the torrential rain.

This is not the time for elections and our astrologers have bungled it.
And our weather men also foul-up their reports.

They were not proactive.

Politicians are clueless.

I think, it is time to rethink and postpone the elections by at least 10 to 14 days.

At least for the relief work to be carried out without political insinuation.

The election commissioner, if he has a humane qualities, takes over the reins and make some bold decisions and look after the “Pura Vasia”, the citizens, rather the  rural folks or the so called villagers.

That includes the masses effected by floods.

He hasn't got to listen to anybody.
Touch his heart with his own hand and tap to his conscience.

I do not think he has the backbone to be above politics.

3.
Linux= Debian for Rescue

My solution is to have many distributions including Windows.
One has to install Windows first.
Then I quickly installed Abiword, Libre Office and even Apache's Open Office (it has changed hand from Oracle to Apache and Oracle was trying to kill it).

It took a day to find the small Mini CD /DVD containing all the software.

Then I tried all the Linux distributions Live.

Pinguy Linux was a failure (I have stated it elsewhere).

PClinux did get the sound but Firefox was a disaster (no plug in for Sinhala Unicode) and its GRUB only recognizes Windows and Knoppix.

Fedora even though, very attractive, having read a review decided against.

I did not try
SuSe since the latest is not out (It has many milestones) yet.

I got the
Linux Magazine today.
It has Suse only 64 bits version.
I have tried all the Linux Magazine DVDs and I have had already made up my mind about them (nearly thirty).

So what NEXT

Nothing but Debian, my ultimate gold standard.

Ubuntu is pleasing but I have never used it on a regular basis.

Peppermint is dainty and skinny desktop.

I need a meaty desktop but now I hate KDE.

It got to be Gnome or Xfce (I started my Live Linux with
Xfce Linux of PCLinux with the little mouse, the real mouse I hate but this mouse like Micky mouse I love).

I thought, I started with Emmabanuts, but not so, it was the failure of easy WiFi configuration and Abiword that made me to use it for a while.
Ubuntu had the best WiFi configuration utility and its popularity may be related to that fact.

I got Xfce installed in 15GB /Ext4 partition.

That is my love affair with PCLinux but when FullMonty came with bloated tummy, I gave up.

It burned
one of my graphic cards (wrong configuration).

That computer has gone to the end of its life time, after 7 years of daily almost 24 hour work and 32 bit anyway
No hard feeling and I dismantled its useful hardware and mother board (power outage) was declared null and void.

No hardware or software problem,
simply burnt out syndrome!

If you are trying Debian, do not take it lightly.

Read all the instructions carefully, before pressing the OK button.

It gives you fall back options.

One should be thorough with the partitioning tool.
Make sure it is linked to a reliable repository (not your local or the nearest, Sri-Lanka or Singapore or India).

I always choose USA.

It does a yeoman service even though, some Sri-Lankans hate USA for no valid reason.

Only, downside it took 3 hours to install 1.2 GB.

What that meant was every file out of 1306 was thoroughly checked and updated.

New Gnome desktop is fabulous.

I was not happy, though.

I went ahead and installed LXDE desktop.

The xfce, openbox and Skol-Linux theme.

Mind you, it does a good advertisement for Linux specially Debian for schools.
I wanted to download the DVD but it was direct download not torrent.

I will search for the torrent and download in a minute.

Currently, I am downloading PCLinux KDE (1.8 GB).
In case, I need a KDE desktop as a consolation prize.

The experience with PCLinux KDE (2014-12) was very disappointing.

Postscript
1. Debian is Sinhala, Tamil and Telangu empowered.
2. It does not support Firefox (probably for right reasons, no flash plug-ins.
3. It supports Chrome.
4. It has over 66,000 software utilities including ham radio, academic and scientific.

Apple and Microsoft can never overtake its marathon record.
