This piece is not an evaluation of politics but to make a few valid comments about typical Ceylonese citizen's behavior styles which are stated at the end.
First of all Thanks to The Election Commission for conducting the election peacefully and more importantly releasing the results in one full page summary.
Excellent job done.
We should be proud of the system that everything was done manually without digital support. There is no software problems and everything is validated promptly and manually and the Telecom System doing the communication in style.
American election is "still on" and they are unable to declare the results of the House of Representatives for ages.
The results of the our House of Representatives was declared without a hitch within 24 hours.
Hats off to the Public Servants and we should protect the Public Service without selling them to the highest bidders, as intended by the IMF.
My Usual Comments
1. Public participation is only 69% and in some places 60% which is below par.
Usually it is over 80% and and it has reached 85% in the past.
68.93% to be exact.
2. Spoiler Vote is nearly 6%.(5.66%)
That is Bad.
667,240 votes, doubled the amount of last time.
3. Nearly 10% to 30% increase of vote share for N.P.P which is excellent.
4. Nearly 10% to 30% drop in vote share for S.J.B which was self inflicted.
5. Death knell for U.N.P and N.D.F which was inevitable and welcome.
My friend Rajitha has lost his seat.
He should have stayed with S.J.B.
Comments about Our Citizenry
1. Every citizen should queue in at public places including bus stands.
First come first service by default in public places.
This is the "first pass the post politics" in real life.
No breaking of queues.
2. No overtaking on the left side by Three Wheeler Drivers.
Overtake only on the right side.
Right of the way is a cardinal principle.
3. No urination in open public places (trees can survive without urine) and keep public toilets clean.
4. Carry all the plastic bottles and beer cans home and do not drop them to rivers including Mahaveli.
5. Do not use cellphones in public transport unless it is urgent.
Silence (in public places) is golden.
6. Respect other people's rights as is of one's own right.
7. Do not let your dog defaecate in the neighbors garden path or in the garden.
Look after your own dog and do not make them become stray dogs.
If you cannot look after a dog do not take a puppy home.
My usual Christmas wish is never take a puppy home, if you cannot look after it every minute of its life.
8. I do not want any of these N.P.P guys to call me Sahodaraya or Uncle.
I have a name and I am a professional.
I still continue to introduce myself if needed but rarely after retirement.
Each individual needs his or her dignity addressed and covering that dignity with a blanket commoner garden name is abnoxios.
It is some sort of vandalism.
That will be the biggest obstacle and challenge to the political progress, now that they are holding administrative posts.
In other words, practice what one preaches.
We do not need politicians, if everybody including politicians follow the above rules in public places as a form of Good Governance.
Five Precepts and animal welfare would be discarded and there won't be anybody to talk about Animal Rights.
Hope that Human Rights are maintained, that include "Freedom of Speech" and not one party dominance.
