Dr. Patel, the Typical Indian

Dr. Patel a typical Indian by default.
He was one of my consultants.
I would come to him later.

Other was Dr. Mubarak. Dr. Mubarak was a sweet guy and a father figure. I used to drink a lot of coffee and work non stop covering three hospitals.

I forget the names of two of the three. Joyce Green is the third where I was based. One of the units had a Reigional Neonatal Care Unit. This is the time Neonatal Care was getting established in UK with Baby Belin units were brought in from USA. I had even done a locum in Neonatal Unit of Hammersmith Hospotal in London.
I had a firm grasp of the Ventilator Units with my super underdtsning of Physics and partial pressure of Oxyen in air and in the Ventilator.

I had to manage 6 babies there for several weeks all alone as a "Medi Locum" and I blacklisted the Unit on my own volition and left with a note that never call me for another locum in this unit which was understsffed by all accounts.

IPPV (Intermittent Positive Pressure Ventilation to preven atelectasis and  cortical blindness in premature babies) was the only methods available in most of the units but proper standard ventilation was hard to come by.

Both of these guys did not have an inderstanding on Neonatal Care but that is not a point to bark or brag about.

Coming back to my coffee story I dropped my coffee cup twice on one day and after the morning round, I told Mr. Mubarak that unwelcome episode. He immediately called the consultant in Medicine and requested that I have a full Medical Check Up and 10 day Mandatory Leave.
He was man with s Golden Heart.

All the cases under him with no medical diagnostic label, I sorted out for him as a token of gratitude.

One of thise cases was a Temporal Lobe Epilepsy.  I used to take vase notes to my room and do a Problem Oriented Medical Record (POMR) Annex and then make a most likely diagnosis in a priority list.

The Indian guy Patel was a man interested in money. He had a Private Clinic in London and he tells me when he goes there for consultation. That means I was in charge of his patients until he returns.
This I took it as a bonus for future reference. But that did not work all right due to a single incident.
All his unsolved cases are put to my Clinic List and I sort them out in 6 to 12 weeks.

It was Sunday 31st of January, 1988.
My General Meidical Council Registration ends on that day but I had to cover part of January 1st as a coincidence which is a holiday in England.

I had a very bad night.

One of the cases was a two and a half year old child sexually abused by her police father. The mother brought in her with a false alarm and I could not believe her clinical story. I told her the child needs full clinical examination without telling that her story is inconsistent. I wanted her consent for full examination in writing. After some persuation with her maternal sense prevailing, she consented. My worse case scenario was proven right. She was sexually abused recently and on long term basis. I found sevetal human pubic hair in her perineum. When they were shown to her, she said they were dog's hair and I said I could give a her a sample for her own private verification. She declined accepting it but I made a point to label 3 samples one for immediate testing, one for the court (Hospital has to save it) and one for the mum/dad for her/his own verification. This was my last case and I did an almost perfect clinical examination. I wanted to admit the case but being considerate I gave a call to Dr. Patel and said you need to come and see the case immediately. He said I would see this case in 6 weeks in the clinic. I told him by that time "the tell tale signs would disappear Isn't it"  He mumbled and put the phone down.
The mistake I did was asking permission to admit. I should have admitted her in the first instsnce.
I accurately recorded everything so that he may be incriminated and not me in my absence in CEYLON.
Next day he called me to continue work in the same capacity. I refused saying I have no registration and it is not legal. At least he could have said I would call the Medical Council for approval for further extension but he did not. I new he had a personal grudge with me and any work under him going to be precarious.
I stayed in my room for another 10 days to finalize my total departure from England and never to return, again.
But I had made an appointment with a consultant in Pathology to discuss the prospects of me changing to Pathology. So after short holiday in CEYLON I visited England to see this guy in Pathology.
He gave a cold shoulder to me and no proper interview was held. I barged into his room and said what has happened to English Etiquette. He went numb and I said I would never step into UK again.
He was a white guy and I did not know whether  Dr. Patel had any connection to the cold shoulder I received from this white man. In any case, I did not have any inclination to know it either way with Good Bye, impending.
Of course, I left some good CEYLON Tea for Dr. Patel.
I did not explore what happened to the child abuse case. It would have gone higher with human hair sample confirmed and a proper legal determination on this police officer. With a police officer charged on my evidence, I did not believe I would get any formal protection in UK even at that time.
I believe Dr. Patel had a seriois formal warning by the judge who may have presided on this case.

List of Indian Mishaps.

1. Indian Woman at the Post Office who cheated me on the exchange rate of my American Travellers Cheques.

2. Indian vendor added things which I did not purchase. I told him I would proceed to police. He took back the receipt and gave me the correct receipt.

3. Anothet guy refused to give a receipt in "open market" to avoid paying of taxes to UK government.

4. I used to do shopping at Totanam Court Road in London for my mother and my mother in law for Indian Saries.

5. I used to do lot of purchasing in London including Medical Books.

6. Indian doctors who tear pages from medical books and magazines in Hospital Libraries. I ended up subscribing to those magazines which were very expensive. This is how Indians doctors save money to send home.

I stopped going to Indian Shops, altogether.

There are many more Indian stories that include RAW wanted to kill me and I was 3rd or 4th in their list in 1988/89. I had two kindergarten kids then.

I had VIP police protection, since it was a job that entailed diplomatic immunity. Killing one with diplomatic protection is violation of International Law and Indian are known for it.

Creating LTTE by Indira Gandhi is such an astrocity.

That was the grand finale.

I met a few of my friends and said this is the last time you may see me in UK.

In any case, I did have only a few friends in UK.

My wife being a British Council guy did go there until 1994 when our Indefinite VISA expired.

She never worked in UK.

I am glad I left UK.

I have no intention of Visiting UK in this life and any future life.

A Weak Leader Brings Disaster to Ceylon

Anura Dissanayske is that weak Leader.Ranil Wichramasinghe is a wesk leader and a stooge of India. He has allowed Anura Dissanayske to sign all the agreements which India needs to subjugate CEYLON and put the onus on Anura and later undermine him and come to power using a subtle "Economic Coup".

Ranil Wickrasinghe is no economic wizard. What he did was to postpone the install paymants and we have to pay the installents with added interest, later.

He fooled the masse with Pseudo RECOVERY.

Sutra Puncha at his Worst.

We must never let him come to power.

I have a Personal Grouse with him.
His aim is to destroy FREE University Education and introduce FEE paying system.
Destroy Kannaggara Wisdom is his moto.

He unceremoniously sacked my BOSS, University Grant Comission Chairman, Professor B. Ranjth N. Mendis.

I acted as the Aciting Dean of the Faculty of Dental Science for 3 months  and fulfilled all His Intended Targets.
I begged him to release me from Work on Adminstration, since I was intereted in Research Work which I finished in double quick time and the rest of the time I spent on my Linux Development Plan and having a Network dedicated to the Faculty of Dental Sciences independent of the University Server.

Yes, he released me for academic work but gave me another project with Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA).

I really enjoyed working with Dr. Handa and Hagiwara and Professor Kimiko was my Room Buddy. He was involved in training our Technical Staff on Special (enzyme technology) Staining Technology.

Unfortunately, minus 20 decree Fridge Freezer I ordered for my Research Work was hijacked by our seniors technician Mr. Bandara who died of Mercury Poisonining.
He was a very nice guy and this piece is dedicated to him.

Of course, I was interested in Safety within the Laboratory from my Private Sector Training in Quality Control and Safety.

This was to highlight the lady who died at about the same time in Colombo (forget her name) who was doing gene splitting in CEYLON. I think this case was hushed up and covered up by the Private Sector guys, fearing litigation by the family and the possibility of undermining their recruitment schemes which violated the Fundamental Rights and the Safety of the individuals in laboratory work.

I left private Sector never to join again but always highligted this case in my introductory lectures to students and visiting trainees.

I was trained by WHO Program in Gene Splitting and part of that training included Safety. I went to Science Faculty for training and one of my classmates in Biochemistry died related to chemical poisoning after retirement. Another of my classmates who entered university much later in Biochemistry did his Masters in Laboratory Chemical Poisonung in America.
He asked me to suggest a  Reseach Project.
All my other academic friends who entered the University from my class except the above mentioned above are dead.
I have noted these incidents without their names in a single chapter in one of my many books at Amazon's.

You have to read those books at Amazon to become wiser.

My first project proposal to aThird Year Medical student was very simple.
Study the relationship of grey hair to Thyroid Hormones, T4 and T3.
He ended up in Biochemistry which I hated in later years. He did go to UK and USA and never retuned to Mother Lanka to pay back his loans and the bond which was Rs. 30,000/=. We immediately raised the bond to 3 times and more,
(Rs.100,000/=).
The girls who joined Pathology (they were Tamils) did not pay back their legal bonds. I personnally conveyed a mesage from my Professor R. G. Tennakoon, to one of my batchmates,  that she cannot join any University in CEYLON, if she decides to come home one day.

Coming back to the Biochemitry Guy, he orgsnized a Guest Lecture in our Faculty.
I attended it in good time and it so happened that I was the only guy to listen to him on that day. He was devastated and told him nobody likes him and Do Not ever come back here, to Show Off.
He was a Hela Urumaya Type guy in his days in CEYLON and he was from Ananda College. He also did not return any of the books he borrowed from me.
He was a very stingy guy and he never offered me a cup of tea which I really love.
One of batch his mates had already warned me that he would never offer a cup of tea and BEWARE.
He of course broke my childhood camera and he did not tell me how. Of course, by that time I had a better camera which I never gave on loan to  anybody.

Incidentally, one of my relatives ransacked all my  spare cameras and vandalized my very expensive Medical Projector for the lens. He became paralysed just before I left CEYLON and I did not pay him a visit but send him the medical gear that he needed through my wife. This is a guy I wish not see in any of my next lives and that includes that Biochemistry Guy.

I wish I meet our dog Zimba in one of my next lives. I am convinced that he is currently in heaven but I have no intention of visiting haeven to cancel my good merits achieved in this life.

Stil I need to talk about another guy who tried to steal my intellectual property. He was an anesthetic. He had no training in paediatrics but was interested in studying TOR or Toxic Oxygen Radical. By that time I was into TOR as the base starting point in Inflammation and Inteleukins. I got one my senior female technician to do the TOR work and her senior technician was a ladies man whom I did like and refused to associate with. I did a close watch on his extracurricular acts and not on his bench work. He was a good bench worker but did use shortcuts in his staining work which was not accepted in Research. So, he was never tasked with Research Work. He used to undercut Sujatha Ramadasa the next in line of command. She unfortunately lacked Resesch component for her promotion in the Medical Faculty. I worjed in the Dental Faculty. I bumped into her one day and asked her how she was doing. She broke and started crying. She came from Ratnapura and she did not have any friends in Kandy. I told her to give me her resume and I would collaboratte in a Research work and I would buy all the chemicals, particularly the  Suoeroxide Dismutase (SOD) for the project. I got her to do some pilot work since to my knowledge nobody had done any work in Ceylon on SOD. When I was satisfied I gave her my protocol which that Doctor guy tried to steal from me. He was initilly one of my supervisors. I sacked him from the supervisor. This was an unpresidented event and I threatened to put my preemptive research work on placenta on to the dustbin, if he was not removed legally in a formal meeting with the Faculty of Medicine.  Fortunately, Professor Mendis had the foresight of a breakdown in communication and appponted 3 supervisors to my project. That saved the day for me.
Miss Sujatha Ramadasa of course got promoted as the Chief Technician when that ladies guy retired. That was on the the strength of the SOD Work with me. I gave a strong recommdation. That ladies guy after retirement used to avoid me in public and he had to retire early on medical grounds. He developed herpes related ophthalmiitis which affected his vision and bench work. That brings me to the third guy with whom I had no academic connection. He used to cover up many deficiencies in the technical and minor staff of the Department. I had to uncover the pilferring of absolute alcohol from the Deparment store. I managed to sack 3 in the Department.

1. One stealing petty cash.
2. One stealing Microcope lens
3. One stealing absolute alcohol
The Chief Guy used to cover up these acts.

Then I had a good COMBO.
Mr. Nimal Ranjith Seneviratna who was National Senior athlete and a good opening batman in cricket for Kegalle and Kandy. He never told me he was a cricketer but he taught me how to use the Typewriter which I coined "Ko Ko System" of Typing which is not related to Touch Typing.
When I did a book on all these guys, I discovered the finer points of their lives.
I did not forget to give long calls to all of them before my departure from CEYLON.

There is no way, I would return to CEYLON even for a holiday.

I did my parts to "Mother Lanka" in "My Way" and there are no arrears.

My only loss is 2 one terabyte SSD disks with all my DATA of Yesteryear snd a few hard copies of my books at Amazon's.
