Chance occurence of vesicle formation is a mystery. One has to assume fatty acids are the formative molecules. They are complex molecules and only two carbon attoms are metabolized requiring a myriad of complex enzymes. Beginning point is elusive but end point has major contribution to biochemistry.

She is no more and in 1960 proposed the Theory of Symbiosis. She was rediculed by her male counterparts but she continued to persevere her Theory with substantial evidence. Her contribution to biology was recognized only in 1999 when she was 61 years of age.
She was married to Carl Sagan astrophysicist who believed that alien life could exist. I think Carl Segan was poisoned and died of myelodydpasia at a very young age. He was one who was against Nuclear Proliferation. Death by poisoning is an age old tradition in human history.
I read about her theory in a General Pathology book (probably coauthored by her). Out of print now.
Quite independently in, 1968 or so as a medical student, I had a theory in my head that mitochondria in eukaryotes originated from prokaryotes or from bacteria.
Of course the prokaryotes lost the genetic material or transferred them to the nucleus.
By the way, mitochondrial genetics is very interesting.
I never discussed this with my batchmates fearing similar ridicule. When I joined the University as a second hand guy or Seconeded Officer in Pathology in 1975, I had lot of time. I revisited this SAGA but did not dig deep in.
Now I am fully retired I can make a run down on this story.
1. Bacteria came in 4 billion years ago.
It took another 1.5 billion years for the next major change.
2. Cyanobacteria with chlorophyll pigment came is around 2.5 billion years ago.
They are the pioneers of Oxyen metabolism.
It took another billion years for symbiosis to get established by joining cyanobacteria with eukaryotes.
3. Algae originated 1.5 billon years ago.
4. Fungi came in 500 million years ago and they were haploid. Reproduction is by binary fission. Only a mycelium of haploid state but have transient diploid state.
The mushroom we eat is the sporandium with billions of tiny spores. Mycelium lives deep under and contributes to rich soil for other plant and animal life.
5. Plants came in last 500 million years ago.
Another billion years later.
This a terribly SLOW PROCESS and a Mad Man with a Nuclear Bomb can end this process in a matter of hours.
This is all due to this Mad Man Therory of God Created everything under the sun.

In any case GOD had gone mad to create man in the first place.
