Reminder of Food Values in Ceylon in the Past

If I remember right these values were registered during Internal War but without war the prices are exorbitant.

Sri-Lankan Food Stuff, the Visitors can be proud of

Average Sri-Lankan loves good food.
I am one of them.
With the Commonwealth Conference due in November, I want the visitors to taste our food and enjoy our culinary delights.
There are many, I know few of you will come back to enjoy the food in yearly basis.
I pity the Canadians did not come.
They lost  a big trick and our culinary delights.
They can remain in Canada and continue to eat Junk Food
.

I will high light the ones below Rs.100/=
If you raise that to Rs.1000/= the delight will spiral up like a rocket.
What I am saying is one need not waste on a buffet inside a hotel.
Come out and enjoy.

Under Rs.100/=
1. Top place goes to Ice Tea which is Rs.45/= a small cartoon.
This is a product I said can beat Coca Cola by a mile several years ago.
They have proved it beyond any doubt.
Name is Hela Div
I love the Green Tea and the Peach Flavour.

2. Liquor Filled Chocolates
All less than Rs.100/=
They are the tastiest for the the price.
They are from Ceylon Biscuits Manufacturers
.

3. Banana Cakes
This is an upcoming item that I promote and is proud of.
They have not mastered it yet.
That is how to preserve the taste and flavour of the banana.
We have many varieties and flavours of banana.
This is something the Canadians going to miss.
We will post you the left overs soon.
I am discussing with our local bakers in Kandy to make a banana bread in time for the conference.
I hope at least one hotel in Colombo perfect the Banana Loaf (Bread) within the next month if they see this blog post.
The price varies from Rs.300 to Rs.85/=.

Facts one should know.
1. Poverty Line is Rs100/= a day.
2. Minimum Salary is Rs.200/= a day (Twice the Poverty Line)
3. At least once in three years the Labour Department should gazette this minimum pay.
4. It was not gazetted for over 10 years.
5. They are bypassing this requirement by giving an allowance and that is also once in 10 years.
One can understand my rationale for using under Rs.100/=.
If one eats a quality food portion a day one has to starve for the rest of the day.
The other option is to eat junk foods and we a nation eating junk foods and once a year we enjoy the delicacies.

What you eat in hotels are beyond the periscope of the poor citizen.

Placenta

Placenta is essentially a vascular tissue but with a difference.
It has unique evolutionary behaviour with two distinct circulations one maternal and the other foetal interposed between a syncytium of trophoblastic (haemochorial) tissue which act as the inter-phase between the mother and the foetus (Beconsfield P, Birdwood G, Beconsfield R; 1996).

The complex relationship of these circulations cannot be studied one independent of the other. When placenta separates from the basal plate at delivery only a few fragments of maternal blood vessels are left intact with the placenta. Maternal blood vessels can be studied by placental bed biopsy but the present study does not entail such an endeavour.
Broadly speaking placental development is determined by genetic, environmental, vascular and unknown factors. Genetic factors cannot be manipulated but environmental (nutrition) and vascular (pharmacological) factors are theoretically amenable to manipulation. Studies (Winick M and Noble A; 1966) have shown that in rats with intrauterine growth retardation without gross malformations there was proportionate reduction of placental weight and of protein content but had increase in RNA content. Protein / DNA ratios were normal for the size of the placenta but the RNA/DNA ratios were markedly elevated. These data indicated that in intrauterine growth retardation there was an association of reduced placental weight accompanied by reduced number of cells. The increase in RNA content was a manifested response to the placental insufficiency. For the first time their studies had shown that the small placentae of intrauterine growth retarded rats were functionally different. Whether this response is pathological or physiological was not clear from their studies but the difference of functional activity was shown. Enhanced expression of RNA may be an indication of metabolic response to stress. Whether these RNA products result in advanced placental maturation with short term survival advantage (epigenetic phenomenon) to the infant or premature expression of biological components that modify the arterial structure that leads to hypertension in adult life are contemporary issues.

Emanuel et al  have shown increased ACTH levels in maternal blood and amniotic fluids in mothers with PIH. These findings were coincident with increased syncytial knots. Syncytial knots are not normally seen until 35 weeks of gestation and are generally considered to relate to the maturity of the placenta. In patients with PIH and placental insufficiency, an associated increased production of ACTH, an increase in number of syncytial knots and advanced placental maturation were noted by these researchers. Increased cortisol production (Lindsay RS, Lindsay RM, Edwards CRW; 1996) in placenta in intrauterine life has been associated with development of hypertension in juvenile rats.

Political Ambitions and Global Politics

Political Ambitions and Global Politics

It is strange that Linux is becoming politically biased towards Russian maintainers of Linux kernel.
Under US Law, twelve or so, Linux Kernel Maintainers are removed. In time to come they will remove Chinese, too.

Russia has Star Linux and Calculate Linux for ages and won't miss a thing.
I have tested them and no Gnome, so I won't use them.

My simple political ambition is to make Linux penetration of Desktop Domain to become ten percent (10%).
It was only total 32 computers in Ceylon.
It was less than 1% globally when I started and it is currently hovering at 4.5%.

In the past, I had intention of competing on Presidential Election, to get Free TV Coverage to talk about the use of Linux in Public Sector and Universities.

YouTube was in early stage and I deplored both YouTube and Facebook but settled down with Twitter and gave it up when Elon Musk took it over.

Then, I worked out the time and cost and realized it is not worth the trouble using Media to promote Linux.

So I used this blog site to talk about Linux and now I talk about technology including Mini PCs
The site does not have any glare but it is functioning smoothly.

I used this blog post in the past on Politics heavily and removed and erased all political content, sometime back.

I entered Ceylon politics again briefly to highlight current events.
These pieces would be removed even the before final count is made.

Ceylon is very divided in politics and thanks to India, China and US.
We are divided on many fronts, caste, creed, race, religion, ethnicity, party politics and money markets (drug money conversion to white money of politics).

Political parties are sold at exorbitant prices and their names are changed at the drop of a hat..

What I aspired was Unity in Diversity (this is the principle in plant and animal kingdom).

None of these parties encourage Unity but Division on party lines.

That is the very nature of Democracy and Politics which we have no control over.

There in no better solution, to democracy, too.

Ranil Wickramasighe is the most Destructive Political Force in Ceylon.
We got rid of Chandrika and it is time to get rid of RW for good.

His political vision is bordering Dementia.

1. Politics is very divisive currently with over 80 political parties and new ones getting registered to enter politics.

2. Politics need lot of money and time.

3. None of them have ground breaking agenda.

Queensland had local elections and the winning party had four themes.

Youth crime
Health
Housing
Cost of Living

I followed Australian politics for long time and I am a down to earth  Labour supporter but Labour lost but it has 45% of the voter base
But the Federal Government is Labour.

Australia has many problems and they do not address them.

1. Obesity

2. Alcoholism (major cause of traffic accidents and youth crimes)

Ceylon has an alcohol crisis, a guy asking money for quarter bottle from Ranajan Ramnayake is genuine.

Bottom line is Ranjan Ramanayke did not know the price of a quarter bottle and dispensed Rs.500/= to the guy.
It used to be Rs.550/= and one has to give an empty bottle to get Rs.50/= rebate. That is long time ago well before elections.
It must be much more, now.
This is what happens one become a film star cum politician, they forget grassroots.

I used to buy a quarter bottle for one of my alcoholic friends and last time I bought a Free Quarter Bottle, I told him, if the price goes up, I will not be his friend any more.
I wanted to wean him off and I miserably failed.
I was planning a send off and invited a few friends for drink at Silverdale Hotel, in Kandy. One guy came late, probably wife had told him not to join us. I sensed it (I was not short of cash) and we had a good cup of Mesna Tea
In fact, it was Tea Pot.

There is no Mesna Tea in Australia and I really miss Mesna Tea.
I promote Ceylon Tea for many many years.
I have stopped carrying Ceylon Spices away (except cinnamon) and only carry Ceylon Tea as gift.

I have forgotten how much Tea in Kg one is allowed at the Airport.

I am off alcohol thanks to late Mangala Samaraweera, the day he raised TAXES, I had my last Wine (usually two pegs but 4 on that day and bar attendant also had one) Peg

Never Pol Arrack (I hate its smell) VSOA was my favourite.

Gin and Tonic was my favourite over a game of billiards or snooker.

Luckily, I had published my book on "Joys of Alcohol" in Amazon   (it is selling well) but I did not include these real life stories.

3. Immigration, especially Chinese taking over of, not  only restaurants but small businesses.

4. If one looks at the Universities the percentage of Chinese students (Universities do not have money, so they entourage paid students from aboard) is increasing at an alarming rate.

These Chinese guys have more rights than Australian Aborigines.

That is my bone of contention.

What is the States of Aborigines?

5. In heavy machinery, Australia still depends on United Kingdom and American Amazon for technological stuff.

Less I talk about technology in Ceylon better it is.

6. How to solve the Debt crisis.

Nobody has a solution.
America has a big Debt Crisis going into trillions.

Australia is also heading for Financial crisis mainly due to Financial crisis in USA, all due to Ukraine War and Middle East War.

I think Russians must be laughing from the back end.

Australia does not have Oil and crisis in the Middle East will tip the balance.

Just remember 1973.
