TBI - TB. Illangaratne-The Silent Achiever

I hate politicians, especially if they are Sri-Lankan, simply because they lie at the drop of a hat.

They never keep their promises especially after we started electing Presidents.

We had a “Dhasmista Man-Religious Society” by the end his regime we became a gun trotting society.

Then, the others came into power to abolish it but at the end of 20 years, they want it to be extended for life.

None of them has credibility.

But we had one silent achiever coming from the hill country.

He was Tikiri Banda Illangaratne.

He was famous because of his literary achievements.

Amba Yahalowo, Tilka and Tilaka were the Sinhala books we loved to read.

If he lived eternally, like our Presidents he would have been 100 years now.

There was a little article about him, in “Ravata Newspaper” but the writer missed three of his major achievements.

This is to fill that gap.

1. He was instrumental in starting the Petroleum Corporation which the current regime has miscued with a massive hedging scandal.

2. He started the Peoples Bank, which even today is the "Bank with a Heart", for its customers, which the current regime is trying to ruin.

3. Third is the Ceylon Insurance Corporation which the previous incumbent ruined.

In addition, he was very energetic in promoting CWE and the Cooperative Movement which the UNP regime was able ruin in in two years.

Both UNP and SLFP were culprits in ruining the Socially Minded government establishments.

That is the very reason, the cost of living is sky rocketing, now in this miracle country.

That is my reason for not trusting any Sri-Lankan politician which colour one maybe does not matter.

Red, Blue or Green did not matter, when it comes to corruption.

All are ACE humbugs.

But TBI was not a humbug.

He died a pauper!
