These ideas were extracted from a YouTube Presentation.

Transistors and Texas Instruments

First large transistor was developed in 1948, by Bell Labs, 3 years after Roswell Crash of Alien Craft. I believe these were reverse engineered from Alien Artifacts. It is not an opinion but a belief. These were given to various emerging companies to avoid monopoly. Monopoly like Microsoft came in much later in 1980s.

It seems it took 3 years to reverse engineer basic transistor concept.

It is a pretty good human craftsmanship.

Texas Instruments was an oil company subsidiary to begin with but became house old name due to its Home Computer.

Tandy Electronics

Tandy was founded in the United States in 1919 as Tandy Leather Company. In 1963, Tandy changed its business to electronics when it acquired control of RadioShack, a forty year old electronics business with nine stores and a mail order arm. From 1963 to 1986, RadioShack grew to more than 6900 stores and dealers in the United States, with a further 2,100 stores and dealers in Canada, Europe and Australia.

In April 2001, Woolworth Group acquired Tandy Electronics for $112.6 million from InterTAN Australia Limited (a subsidiary of International Tandy). Tandy had 222 stores at the time. Despite also owning Dick Smith Electronics, the Tandy stores continued to trade as separate entities until the phasing out of the Tandy brand by Woolworths in 2011.

 

Mind you, Woolworths had a chain outlets in United Kingdom which was phased out by English companies.

 

I guess Boots took over its assets.

British designs failed but American designs stormed the global market.

When the new designs were coming Commodore dished out its 64 bit computer damn cheap and I bought it to bring into Ceylon. My brother who was working in Middle East had 128 version and at that time he was a computer maestro.

 

I started late and overcame him in Linux.

 

Alien Artifacts

This is based on General Philip J Corso's revelations but I have my own insinuations.

American Scientists are shy to say that the inappropriately rapid advances made in science are due to reverse engineering of retrieved crashed alien crafts.

 

It is mysterious how they crashed, if alien technology was superior.

 

1. Number one for me is Genetic Engineering as a medical man.

 

2. The crafts were operated by EBENs or biological entities and not real beings like humans.

 

3. They were AI beings with artificial brains and could be spared if they were to be captured by humans.

 

That sounds reasonable.

 

4. Transistors were very big when we crafted them but alien transistors were thin and microscopic..

 

5. Their integrated circuits were microscopic and now, we are beginning to make small circuits of 7 to 9 nanometers thick.

I hate AI but the Whisper AI is pretty good.

I asked for 50 or more Linux utilities and I got them without referring to Wikipedia. 

But there were duplicate entries.

Even EBENs can be effected by radiation.

How are we going to protect our astronauts on a mission to Mars?

In another 3 years in 1951 mass production of transistors was possible.

Germanium was used first but it was unstable in higher temperatures.

Later used silicone which can stand up to 132 degrees was used for circuit boards.

First Radio (pocket radio) with 4 germanium transistors was produced in 1954.

I am interested to know what RAM my Old ACER Laptop has. 

I think it is DDR3 and it is pretty slow.

I know my NUC has DDR4.

I won't buy a gadget with DDR5, even though I promote Linux games, in my age I have lot the manual dexterity to play games like a kid.

What is DDR?

As the speed of computer components have increased, memory speeds also improved. Double data rate (DDR) memory was introduced to consumers in 2000, prompting the previous technology to become known as single data rate (SDR).

DDR memory transfers data to the processor on both the rising and falling edges of the clock signal. This makes double data rate memory significantly faster – and more energy-efficient – than single data-rate memory, which uses only one edge of the clock signal to transfer data. Since DDR is faster and uses less energy than SDR, it quickly became the new standard for memory innovation.

It's also worth pointing out that double data rate memory differs from dual channel memory.

DDR generations

Each successive generation of DDR memory is faster and uses less energy than the one before it.

Today, most computers can get by using DDR3, while most high-end gaming and data-intensive creative content computers now use DDR4.

The latest generation, DDR5, was released in 2021 and offers the next level of performance for serious gamers and professional creatives.

It important to determine what generation of memory your computer supports before buying new RAM. DDR5 memory, for example, will not fit on a motherboard built to support DDR4. 

Check with your motherboard manufacturer to ensure you have the right memory.

Yes, I was invited for an Audience with King Charles.

I could not have tea with him as expected (he had no time) but I was asked to pour a cup from a dispenser which I declined.

 

But I was given a chance to raise ten important issues in one minute.

1. Please Accept my Song of Linux and make Linux a Royal Mail Server.

I said Parrot Linux is pretty good and Vatican has a Linux Server.

 

He said NO.

King Charles and the Palace do not use digital mail even encrypted and prefer hand delivery due to security reasons.

 

Besides Royal Mail have to be protected.

2. Please declare Ceylon Tea as the number one.

 

He said NO.

He said Ceylon Tea derivative coming from Kenya is better and they have a Royal Contract with them. 

 

Besides you are not in the Commonwealth.

3. Protect our forest for the elephants for at least 10 years. 

Your father King Philip was the patron of Wild Life.

 

He said NO.

We have adopted Panda as the protected animal.

Besides, we need cheap goods from China, now that President Trump is at loggerhead with China.

4. Please ask Anura Dissanayake our president to Nationalize our Cricket Board.

 

He said NO.

It is said, the big money is coming through Dubai to London and our economy is on downhill course due to Ukraine War efforts and we need economic prop ups.

I was already running short of ideas.

5. Prohibit Caste System in Ceylon.

 

He said NO.

Citing under the Commonwealth Protocol caste system and tribal life have universal safeguards.

6. Protect Buddhism as stated in the constitution.

 

He said NO.

We have agreed with America to protect SOFA and M,C.C (Millaneum Challenge Corporation and America) protocols.

7. Make English as our Link Language.

 

He said NO.

We are no longer in the NATO and there 2000 other languages to protect and English is not one of them.

8. Make Kandyan Dancing our National Dancing.

 

He said NO.

Break dancing is the current vogue and Kandyan Dancing is two conservative.

9. Make Kaputa or Crow our National Bird.

 

He said NO.

Crow is no longer protected but the Australian Magpie has taken that place.

Take some of them and breed them in the wild.

10. Last one was the most sensitive.

Make pipal or Bo tree as our national tree.

 

He said NO.

Bo tree has religious connotations and cannot be accepted and Hindus and Christians might start another War.

11. I kept NUC as my 11th topic in case he gives me a bonus request.

Yes he gave me a bonus request.

Citing we have to support Trump's American Tech industry not Taiwan.

 

I was rudely woken up.

I am promoting all forms of mini frame architectures and I am not prepared to buy expensive gadgets from America.

Cheap Chinsese stuff is good enough for me.

GMKtech is a good brand but bit expensive if one has to upgrade.

I am making this because a guy in YouTube shows naked aggression.

Just before the election, I had a pieces here stating that J.V.P.'s political failure was it was cast based from the very beginning.

I removed that piece 48 hours before the presidential election and predicted that this time round J.V.P. would get 45% of the vote and there going to be count of the second preference.

In the general election they got the floating vote but could not top the 2.9 millions, the previous best which Gotabaya got. 

British of course took grand steps to stem this tendency and their University system was the instrument.

But system persisted in a different way.

The villages were named according to the cast. 

This persist to this day.

The name did not sound the caste.

British used this Divide and Rule System.

We are still divided but on ethnic and religious grounds.

The Roman Catholic School made no discrimination in admission to the school but Muslim did not enter. 

I stated my schooling there but did not last due to Mettanada's  exposed Catholic Action to the Public. 

Nobody could get a Government job unless on is a Catholic. 

There was sinister attempt to make me to change my religion when I was under 16 years.  

I resisted. 

I wanted to be without any religion.

There was a caste here with political power and money. 

The were called Rajapaksa.

All the land belonged to them. 

Of course British had given them free.

This is from where I came from. All the white collar job people resided in this region including the Chief Justice Thalgodapitiya.

Where the  cemetery was located.

It belonged to the "Hewa Gam" or the dancers of the Kandy Perehara. 

The first guy to enter the University came from this village but he could not get a job for over 5 years. 

He worked part time in the Department of Pali (which J.R.J. destroyed and currently Ranil is hell bent in doing so) but ended up as a school teacher. 

He was a very nice guy.

Just to say how British University help without discrimination in our time until Cyril Mathews introduced a new scheme of university admission.

I entered university before this scheme.

Where poor people were located. It was a Tea Estate abandoned.

I used to wear the typical Peradeniya Beard as a Medical Student but cut it when J.V.P. adopted this style.

I was never a supporter of J.V.P.

D.J.V.P. under the behest of Indian RAW put me in their kill list.

I was the fourth to be kill by them.

My crime I was working for I.M.M.I (Water Management Company).

This was a ploy by America to own our water resources.

India opposed this project that is why they wanted to kill me.

Funny part is now Indian is a strong ally of America.

Somebody should revive this, now that Steve Job is no more.

My Cellphone History

 I have new Nokia with with Android 12 image and another Redmi A2+ which has Android 13.

I bought a basic phone for the utility value of it, first time round and ended buying upto 10 more cellphones.They were cheap then and I of course had spare money.

Number one utility value for me is listening to the Radio and to get local news updates when on the move and number two for an emergency call when out and about.

Having experienced a stolen SIM from me, I do not want to take my expensive cellphone out. 

Even in Europe, the commonest items stolen are money, cellphone and laptops.

If I lose my cellphone, the headache is bigger than losing a SIM or two, even though, I have configured it to be traced by Google, in such an event.

Also typing the password for Gmail entry is a pain and it needs to be remembered by Google on 24/7 basis.

This basic phone is from Samsung and it is cute and not bulky.

First it's Radio was OK.
Sound quality was good and it detected all my downloaded music files.

There it ends my satisfaction.

It took two days to figure out how it works and set the time and date having read the instruction note twice in very small letters.

It was only interested in configuring the SIM.

I get the carrier details and that's all.

I removed the battery at least five times to get it to the start mode and each time I  figured out what next to come one application at a time. This was useful when I got a Samsung tablet as a gift. It does not shutdown if the battery is on. Only shutdown when the battery is totally dead. Of course, it does not start until the battery is charged up to 20% or more.

I got the vendor to configure it, for me and  I was not happy to give a call unless it does not work the way I wanted it to be.

Altogether, I had about 20 messages from the two carriers but I could not type a single SMS message.

I had to press this or that button to get the simple or capital letters or numbers.

Finally, I got the wall paper I wanted and switched it off, for a break.

If I have to type a message in an emergency, it perhaps needs one minute for each word.

I have not tried any contact numbers yet except my own extra SIMS in Nokia cellphones from one of which, I am typing this post.

This is why, I always say Radio is the best way to get the local news fast and not a new cellphone with carriers who cannot reach the far corners of this country or the location of the person in distress.

The government has not figured this out.
A scenario like tsunami and how to respond quickly is not figured out.

Leaving it to the individual carriers is not the full proof remedy.

They are interested in money making.

During the Coronavirus epidemic getting the base stations working at full throttle was not achieved.
Leaving it to the doctors, who are already hard pressed (to get the infrastructure activated) is no good.

Police may do a better job but army is shadowing them.

Having a cellphone as a safety net is not good enough, if the poor farmer does not know how to operate it (SIM response, emergency calls and reaching the nearest police station or hospital).

The guy I gave my android phone version 8 has not figured out how to use it after almost two years.

Majority including my classmates who were in public service do not understand that the cellphone is a mini computer.

They feel shy to ask for help.

It is often, the son or daughter who is using or operating the cellphone.

Mind you, I leaned a few tricks from my daughter but I have gone beyond that point of entry.

I think Android phone should be the basic but my GreenTel cellphone had more options and I also had a version which received analogue TV stations.

I am told GreenTel has gone bust.

I had a GreenTel notebook, too.

The GreenTel has the best phone camera and its Android version is 6 and Google has fiddled with the photo application and I cannot access the photos stored in this cellphone.

I have activated the Google App store for updates and Google is not responding.

I am not sure whether it is due to  GreenTel had gone bust or Google is interfering or both.

But I am pretty sure Google is interfering and does not let me see the stored up       (not in the Google Drive, which I rarely use) photos in the cellphone.

Now this was my second cellphone.

The  first Java phone (1), I gave free to a guy who depends on the cellphone for his day to day work and he has gained my trust for a long time and when things were getting bad in schools were demanding cellphones with video conferencing I bought a new one for his daughter.

After 3 months of no work he has found some work.

The GreenTel (2) was taken twice to Singapore  Birds Park. 

I was a regular visitor to Singapore when airfares were pretty cheap.

The last visit to Singapore was to visit Bird's Park and those photos of birds Google is preventing the access.

I bought a cellphone in Singapore and it is called SeeKen (4) and it had Android version 6 and it's touch screen has gone unresponsive  and it is not responding.

Problem with liquid crystals underneath.

The second GreenTel (3), I gave it to my son.

The  third Zigo (5),  I gave it to a guy who has not used it for two years. This was the phone in which one of my SIMs of Hutch was stolen my a Muslim guy, a crafty manipulator.

Fifth was a Zigo (in Dubai - Sheikh's Company) cellphone with touch screen and it had itd pixels burnt and a white line running vertically which was disposed, since I could not find a spare battery.

That is the second telephone company gone bust.

After long lay off, I bought a couple of Nokia cellphones (may be 4) for my Internet work and they are the best for me.  One of which I gave it to a worker guy (who helps me with odd jobs) during coronavirus pandemic for his daughter to use for school work.

I have three of them and my workhorse is one of them. This workhorse is dead now in Ceylon, since I could not find a replacement battery. I could not recover my music and photos before erasing its content to factory setup.

If you want a robust cellphone buy a Nokia cellphone.

They are out of stock in Ceylon.

I also bought a Samsung phone (1) with a sealed battery, which makes the total 10 in number.

They have a rugged (Nokia) one coming soon.

I have no commercial interest with Nokia.

Mind you, Nokia coming from Finland introduced the brick like phone in 1980s which did not fit in my overcoat and I preferred the hospital bleeper and telephone exchange for patient care.

I used to put the bleeper into the waste paper busker when  not on call and cleaners always put it back on the side desk religiously.

The bleeper sound mean a sick child has arrived.

I hate to see sick children often neglected by parents and compounded by GP negligence not responding quickly.

That was one reason me leaving UK.

GPs are powerful there and I did not go there to aid and abet GP's mistakes.

So you can understand why I hate cellphones.

Phones always bring bad news and I want pleasant or Somanassa Chitta at least in my retirement.

The land phone is out even after paying Rs.15,000/= well above the arrears and I hate MobiTel for life.

My first SIM was from MobiTel and I stuck it inside the Samsung phone.

I bought a Samsung basic cellphone sometime ago for good some and it was pretty bad with only basic applications (I use) and was almost never used.

Only good think was the SD card with all the  Western songs I downloaded is recognized quickly by this cute little cellphone, I bought. 

I said I bought it for listening to radio and music and it does a good job at pleasing volume control and not loud for bystanders.

I had a GreenTel Notebook and it's RAM was limited. It was very slow to my liking and gave away to a guy who did not know how to use it and his grandchild broke it. 

His name is Man Wadu and he is no more.

This comment is coming from a guy who used all the available models from Kit Kat 4.3 to version 11. I had a cheap tablet with version 4.3 (its battery has gone dead and I won't buy a new battery) and a game console which I could never download a game due to faulty keyboard that did not let me type my 18 long alphanumeric password.

This is a down to earth comment and I did not use exorbitant gadgets but what was available at the time when I needed the most (upgrading wise).

So going for Android 12 is a waste and I won't go to Singapore again except bypassing it on a long trip to Australia and have a quick visit to Greymouth and the remote  Reefton (forgot the name) looking for ladybirds with kids.

The town of Greymouth is an ideal base for this region.

No Bonding is Dhamma View

What I mean by, No Bonding is the Dhamma View? 

This should be taken in conjunction with Cause and Effect and Kamma and Kamma Vipaka.

Every action has a causative effect or simply become a neutral actions.

It could be positive or negative or neutral.

This is similar to philosophical view of right view, wrong view or neither right nor wrong view.

Actions like eating, walking, running, singing and dancing are neutral actions. There is no reason to apply cause and effect to those actions except overeating causes obesity and too much exercise causes fatigue.

The real aim of Buddhism is to be neural or attain a state of equinimity.

Do not do Kusala Kamma.

Do not do Akusala Kamma.

This is what, I learned from my son under 7 years.

He said do not do Pin (Kusala).

Do not do Pav (Akusala).

That was my first entry into Dhamma.

Right entry as an adult.

That made me to delve into Buddhism in depth.

Buddhist Publications Society in Kandy was my repository which was initiated by two German (Jewish) monks.

I use to visit there at least once a month.

It started with "Bodhi Leaves" written by both lay people or monks.

But my true companion is Dhammapda.

It has a verse which says knowing one verse in depth is better than knowing 1000 by heart.

My mother could recite almost any in the Dhammpada without knowing it's interpretation in real Dhamma. 

In her final days, I used to recite one verse from Dhammpada randomly (in Sinhala) and I read the meaning or objectives. 

This blog site has s few of them retold.

I did that when Ukraine War got started and now after 3 or 4 years, down the track we are still at loggerhead. 

No diplomacy.

I hope President Trump and President Putin grab this opportunity with a neutral stance.

Neither side declare we or they are victorious.

Zelensky is the biggest hindrance to any objective outcome.

Let me dish out with Free BSD it has no Live CD in the 14th version but only Install version. I think it is the right decision. Just went through a YouTube item on Linux who use Toxedo Linux from Germany says, lot of Linux guys try a Live DVD or USB and give up straight away. BSD has not got a good market share at this moment, it would drop more, if they introduce a Live Version.

Lot of Linux guys who have commercial interests do this trick of not letting one had a Live Version.

Good example is Ashi Linux which I have never tested (text mode only) or would try in the future. Let Apple Guys do that for themselves. Ashi Linux provides text mode developer support. This is craty way to lure unsuspecting Linux developers to tinker with the code without a payment method.

Regarding Neptune Linux, I forgot its name to begin with and then I had no space in my NUC which is full of Linux iso images. I tried Neptune to see it whether it gives a healthy relationship with the long forgotten KDE desktop. 

I will not use it but I will use MX Linux KDE version, which I have already installed in addition to Netrunner.

No Neptune for many reasons.

I installed Xournel and Basket Notes and even though it boasts a persistent image on the Live USB, it did not register them when rebooted.  

The Persistent package is faulty.

It does not allow Synaptic Package Manager unlike Netrunner for me to Install Abiword Office package.

It did not even recognize the password for the WiFi on the reboot.

Enough of problems and I won't recommend it to a new user of Linux.

By the way, my laptop has a 500GB SATA and it has hundreds of Linux images there which I can write to a USB and boot with my NUC. That solves my lack of space problem in the NUC. 

I am a practical guy and not a bloated image guy and that is why I use Linux.

Of course, I can remove some of my Debian Linux images to free some space, if I need any space. 

My book files are very tiny only the Linux Essential has 1MB file. 

Linux saves file sizes to manageable sizes.

As a result, the upload time is very fast in the Internet.

Apple Mac and Boot Loaders for Linux Distributions.

Apple Mac is a PAIN.
Boot Loaders both Grub and LiLo can be pain in the ArXXXX if one is installing as many as seven (7) distributions in one computer.
 

That is what I do.
 

Each distribution, I use for a particular purpose, for testing and demonstrations.

Sometimes it is the smallest distribution that does it well.
I am going to talk about AntiX in a while, just hold it for a moment.
Because I use so many passwords including for my Bank Cards I tend to forget some of them due to lack of use.
I forgot the root password for  PCLinuxFullMonty.
One cannot ROOT without a root password in Linux.

That is my work horse and I use it everyday including for downloading distributions for testing.
I wanted to do some simple task, home keeping task, one may call it BOX keeping task, like what cricketers wear when they go out for batting.
Like cricketers protecting their testicles one has to protect important data when computing and Linux has a way of doing it.
All important tasks are delegated to root user which normal user cannot use unless he is given sudo user privilege.

I could not remember the password and I could not cover my computer genitals.
That speaks lot about Linux.
Once configured I rarely do any household tasks.

Once the firewall is properly configured, one can do seamless work day after day.
No complaints.

It is true that Linux computer should run 24/7 day schedule.

No hassle of updating too.
I decided to format and install it again since that is what I do in December.
This time because of our industrial action and particularly the laziness acquired during long drawn out strike, this was bit delayed.
I keep entire December for enjoying and the computer also gets a rest.
But not this time round, we have to extend the sessions to accommodate for the lost time.
December 1st and second I was busy installing PCLinuxFullmonty.
Only PCLinux I forgot the password.
Others were OK and I could remember their passwords.
Installing went OK but with a hitch.
It did not recognize some of my other distribution in its GRUB file for booting.

I Installed Debian 6.0.6.
 

It recognized all but  PCLinux failed to start.
The fact of the matter is PCLinux is KDE desktop.

Debian was Gnome.
 

They do not speak to each other.
That is true as far as GRUB booting is concerned.
Then I re-installed PCLINUX without formatting home partition.
This time Debian did not boot.
 

Then I go for my magic wand.
 

It is called AntiX, a Debian based Mepis derivative, and tiny and install in 10 minutes.
It restored my boot Loader with all in its menu.
 

I used to do all this manually with Redhat and Mandrake and edit the boot partition line by by line.
 

Mandrake had LiLo and Redhat had very good GRUB then.

Now of cause Linux does not need a boot partition and all is integrated with root partition and they can be mounted from any partition and MBR has all the details.

Coming back to Apple Mac it is Unix based and it still uses 1 MB bootstrapping partition which none of the partition tools is able to do now.

I installed Debian in the Apple Mac and then mounted Xbuntu and reduced the home partition and installed Xbuntu on the available space.
Now it has two bootstraps but can recognize only one.

That is the last install boot partition.
Apple Mac does not have MBR like in windows and it recognize only one boot partition.
I know one thing I can do is to edit the boot menu in the boot partition using an editor.
I am too lazy to do that now and I have no idea how Apple uses its command to recognize alien distributions.
 

This is how Apple works and even Windows 8 is trying to emulate Apple very late in its downward trend evolution.
 

I can use only one Linux distribution in an Apple hardware.
It is an absolute waste of resources as far as hardware is concerned.

This is one reason I never use Apple Mac.

The second hand Apple Globe, I gave it to a young guy along with one of my old computers.

He could never figure out how to boot Apple.

I gave him the Redhat version of set of 6 CDS to install. 

The core Debian used only 280 MB of hard disk.
That is how powerful Linux is.
Rest of Linux utilities are spread over var and user partitions.

Linux for MaBOOK IS A WASTE OF TIME.

I tried to down load an image an  could not. The developer is asking for money. I thing he should ask that money from Apple CEO.

It is script base non sense otherwise for Linux developers. They are trying to or lure Linux developers to ther project.

If you are True Linux Developer DO NOT FALL TO THIS TRAP.

Apple is trying to plunder everybody who has no economic brain.

Many moons ago I tried Linux on a Apple Globe with little RAM and Hard  disk. Only Redhat 5 series supported it. I went to Debian afterwords. Finally its CD ROM packed up and I did not try USB booting but dispensed it freely to a guy who was learning Linux. The last think I knew was he dismantled everything but could not find any placements in Ceylon. I gave this guy most of the CDs I had.

Traffic, Heart Attacks, Perehara and Cycling to Work

It is Perehara Time in Kandy and if I cycle to work I get a heart attack or knocked down and killed by an erratic driver who is visiting Kandy on Pilgrimage.
This little town cannot accommodate normal traffic on a normal day especially when V.V.I.Ps visit with police cordon.
I have devised simple method which is to boycott Kandy City for two weeks or take two weeks leave and exit from the city.

This has worked for me for the last 20 years.
 

My last visit to the city on a Friday evening worth recording.

I walked down to the bus terminus (for my sanity I will not state the place) which is always jammed in all directions since Kandy police won’t let the bus drivers to park in Kandy city limits.

1. Funeral Procession was the first obstruction to smooth flow of traffic.

2. Then within half a Kilometer a Wedding Car doing almost a U-turn on the main road in front of a guest house.

3. From that point traffic was at snail pace to Kandy.

4. Then to my surprise I saw a pack of cyclists overtaking us.

Most likely they were Australian tourists who had come for the Cricket.

I thought they were a mad lot to cycle to Kandy in this terrible heat.

They will get heat stroke if not knocked down by somebody.

There were few ladies, too.

A casual look at them. there were at least three professional cyclists one leading the pack, one behind and one securing the ladies in the middle. Moment I saw these three gentlemen doing the impossible and without obstructing the main flow unlike our three wheeler peddling along safely, I was bit happy.

Then they disappeared from our sight.

The traffic were snail pace I thought they were the only wise guys / girls on the road who could beat even a policeman on a motor bike.

5. Then suddenly an ambulance was on sight.

Another patient who needed to be transferred in a hurry but almost stuck on the road.

I was thinking the cyclists would be in town and having a drink but when we were within a half a kilometer of the city they were stuck at a junction not knowing where to turn.

Who is / are wise me, on a old commuter on a bus on a Friday afternoon to beat 6 P.M closure time or cyclists without knowing the route, I wonder.

Exercise is recommended and cycling is one of them to prevent heart attacks and cycling in Sri-Lankan road is a Killer Entity.

Tourist beware, no cycling and no driving (please hire a car).

If you need some exercise please follow our President and do cycling on a exercise bike in a air conditioned room (?prevent dehydration-even air conditioning might dehydrate you but may prevent heat stroke) with a face mask on.

Next killer is air pollution and Kandy has the best / worst polluted air in this country for one to breath (only intermittent rain prevent this pollution) and mind you this Perehara festival is to bring rain (water cutting ceremony) and its religious overtone is a superimposition only.

At least if it rains poor elephants won’t have sore feet (when they walk on tar roads, the heat burns their feet) and that is also not happening due to global warming and our politicians and their kith and kin even clearing Sinharaja forest for road development, add to the destruction already done by predecessors.

Friday is a very unhealthy day to travel but I had to do that to go to a bookshop and buy some reading material to read till this bizarre period of festivity is over.
Three more days to go and I have already finished the books.
Perhaps I might do some writing and this is the end result.

 

Now I have become a grand old book writer.

Just finish my first song (on Linux).

How to make a hot ABI-Word Soup out of Word Processing (Mallum) Noodles

I was writing a small booklet from the gathering of various pieces of my writing, not related to y blogging of course.
Blogging and copying one web format to another can be a noodle soup with entangled code soup if you paste from one web application to another even though web format is a standard without jargon or macros.
But due to universal presence of Java applets that creep into the web format that is also can be pain in the ass.
But nothing to compare with Word processing applications from Microsoft to Word Perfect to K-office to Open Office to LibreOffice.
I had done the formatting in all of the above and when I wanted to get that to print form for a particular length and breath of the book the macros were playing Pandu (Cricket).
After 24 hours of struggling with K-Office and Open Office, I decided to give up.
What ever I did a macro from five years ago will creep in and none were print ready in spite of conversion to PDF.
I decided to remove macros.
Can you guess.
In earlier edition of Open Office before it became a Gorilla and much bigger than Microsoft Word sometimes, Open office 1 and 2 let you remove the macros and when I had the same problem when finishing my thesis and get print format ready I used them.
Even I find LibreOffice is a pain in the neck.
So what I did was import the document over 100 pages to a ABiWord, my dear friend, now very versatile.
With 3 hours of juggling I removed all irritating formatting macros and got it less heavy.
Mind you I could not change the colour blue (I use blue for eye pleasing effect) to black in some part of the document due to so much of background macros.

 I saved the document in abi format.
Luckily Abiword does not have page formatting ability and my current page layout of 6 by 9 inches were left untouched.

Then I forgot I have to post a blog in the morning and I did not want to write something long having worked three hours on the trot on a word document of 100 pages.
If you are stuck only ABiword will help you to remove macros.

I kept the the page size and number of pages to my original plans but few pages less than the original.

Not only that I saved huge amount of memory and when I upload it to America it will be quick too.

 There is always a package in Linux to bail you out and for 24 hours I am going to sleep without typing a word.

 It will be 24 hours before you get a post from me.

Thank god we are on industrial action and today is Saturday.

Please excuse me for the typos.

I will edit them when I get up.

Update including Cricket

I hope above blog post done in only ten minutes before I went to sleep needed, another 25 minutes of editing and looking for typos.

I was I was listening to BBC radio and listening to cricket and I had to give up editing and went down to my son’s room and peoTV was blocked for (cricket from UK) then I had make my wife to move out to answer a call to get to the digital TV (Capture card) and tune into Eye Channel and was able see to Mahela’s mastery.

Take my word, they are the modern version of Rohan Kanhaie and Kallicherran of yesteryear West Indies.

This I said long time ago when they were young.

I will not miss a match when Mahela is on song.

Sanga should learn a lesson or two from Mahela.

West Indies cricketers who are young and never seen the two classy players mentioned above should watch Mahela and Sanga play limited over games and believe that they can produce high class players (there problem is batting once Brian Lara was gone).

The difference in the above two players as opposed to Sri-Lankan players were they always played like that every time they came to the crease, limited or not.

I never missed them when they came to Colombo on short visits (including great Westley Hall, Gorden Greenich and Griffith and I think Lance Gibbs the spinner).

Sobers I have not seen playing live.

There is a documentary on West Indian cricket of yesteryear produced by a cricket loving Englishman. Everybody who is a cricket liver should see that documentary including West Indians.

Without them cricket will be dead the way Indians cronies (not players) not West Indian who are marketing cricket like tooth paste and soap opera (Bollywood style).

I hope west Indies stop fighting and play gentleman cricket and beat India who has become too big for comfort for any cricket (IPL included.)

They actually gave Indian a wake up call and  scare.

If not for Raul Dravid, the Wall (a real mature cricketer of class, whom I like very much) I will be rubbing salt on their woulds.

Raul Dravid was one player who was very badly treated by Indian Cricket Selectors, who thinks that any Indian who can play soft ball cricket can represent India.

Now that Garry Kirsten is gone like in Sri-lanka (political involvement) all the cronies will get in to ruin Indian Cricket Board and ICC.

On a finer note my daughter, my wife and the Gon Bass (work supervisor) did not let me sleep even three hours at a stretch and woke me up three times on three different occasions in spite of the fact it was a Saturday.

My dog was the only considerate soul who did not disturb my sleep but left a big poo in the living room to state emphatically, industrial action all right I need to go out and I am not a prisoner on hold like in Guatemalan Bay.

I got the message and decided to regularize my daily routines at least with the dog.

Coming back to ABiWord, it has 30 odd different formats including PDF and LaTex.

Its Pdf file is so light and opens in a Flash.

Who needs Adobe Flash anyway?

I have now decided to learn LaTeX as soon as possible before I am too old (grumpy dog) to learn a new tricks to please the master, from above the Maha Brahma.

I think LaTeX would take even less code behind the keyboard.
