It had two version, version 7 and version 9 available for download.

I said I was running out of ideas for Linux newbies, a little premature and within 24 hours I have to post this on Poseidon Linux.
I also said that I may concentrate on academic activities.
This is about Poseidon Linux latest version and about scientific packages including statistics and gplot.
This is Ubuntu based distribution ans has all the scientific packages one may use in K12 level.
It has Scribus, Blender, Inkscape and OpenOffice and it will be handy on a school setup.
Few thinks it lacks is Skype, gparted and games which can easily be downloaded if one needs them.
This will fit in nicely in a school environment.
Only problem with it is, it does not have a torrent file and my download from point to point broke down twice and the third time I was lucky and it took over one day(night) of downloading.

I hope the guys and girls in Poseidon will sort that out soon.

Poseidon (GNU/)Linux was designed as a friendly and complete desktop, based on open source software and aimed at the international scientific community (students, technicians, professors, researchers). Since Poseidon Linux 3.0 we started a new era for our project, this new release is based on Ubuntu LTS (Long Term Support) it can be easily installed in any language supported by Ubuntu. The previous versions (1.3, 1.5, 2.0), based on Kurumin (a Brazilian Portuguese distribution based on Knoppix), were Pt_Br, only.

Version 4.0 was launched in 2010. Both 32 bits and 64 bits versions were released. This release was based on the Long Term Support (LTS) Ubuntu 10.04 (with 3 years of updates guaranteed by Canonical), since our goals are stability, usability and support for the whole system when used professionally at universities, institute, colleges and -also- at home.

Poseidon Linux 5.0 and 6.0 were based on Ubuntu LTS 12.04.1. Poseidon Linux 7.0 was based on Ubuntu LTS 14.04. 

 

Poseidon Linux 8.0 was based on Ubuntu LTS 16.04.

Current Poseidon Linux 9.0 is based on Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS (with 5 years of updates by Canonical).

 Update on JoliCloud

This is just to say I have installed JoliOS on my computer and I am writing through Google’s Chrome.
It Looks pretty fast unlike my work horse PCLinuxFullMonty which is temporarily out of commission since JoliCloud could not boot up my Linux since it made a hash of my boot loader.

I have to reinstall  PCLinuxFullMonty TWICE which was bit of a hassle.
Fortunately, I copied all the downloads to my laptop (which is defunct due to battery failure) hard disk already removed and the laptop now resting in the attic, so to speak. I have found a battery and it is in working order with Endless OS installed.
 

JoliCloud has to work on the Boot loader to satisfy me.

It must beef up its security protocols too.
Overall its performance is as good as any Cloud Service.
Thank you for electing me as a founder member.
 

Please note the following points in addition.
1. Do not install it on the laptop or desktop till they get a good boot loader.

2. If you are Linux guy or girl use UnetBootIn (which I have described adequately under CloudUSB (Ubuntu 10.04).

One does not need a password if you use UnetBootIn.

3. My cloudUSB stick with a password still works but it gets to its old web site, instead of http://www.myjolicloud.com.

4. All what you have to do is to go to www,myjolicloud.com and sign up.

5. If you have already signed up just log in.

6. It seamlessly integrates with your email address and all the blog posts.
Thank you JoliCloud for doing this.
I have forgotten some of them already.
Initially it integrated with Dropbox without me logging into Dropbox.
I actually have forgotten the password for Dropbox.
When they (Dropbox changed its initial contract agreement, I stopped using Dropbox) made changes to the initial contract, I was hesitant to trust them.

7. I am annoyed with Facebook’s nosiness and I deleted it from my page.

8. Make sure you have a powerful password for the EMAIL.
If you have sensitive data make sure when you install Linux encrypt at least your home partition.
I have no sensitive but painful data for Microsoft, so I do not encrypt my home folder.
Any Microsoft Guy / Girl can browse it, if they know how to do that but I will track them with Kali the dangerous Devil Queen of Folklore.

Problem with Linux including CloudOS is that they can see or mount, root (not the sexual rooting or mounting of animal) or load any partition of Microsoft and Linux at lib.

Linux is a dangerous animal to deal with including Google’s Android.

Unfortunately digital Android does not have male hormones for sexual activity.
I think the one who coined this word would have been impotent sexually by default.
One need not be fully potent to enjoy Linux FREEDOM in a modern Unisex Digital World.

Linux Freedom Site is active now ,please contribute to the site financially.

Sex is not a barrier to use Linux but fortunately it is dominated by males who have extra hormones but one less or dysfunctional chromosome.

If you love anonymity try Tails or anonymous.

9. Then register with the Help Center and ask for the applications you prefer.

I asked for AbiWord and LibreOffice which I have not yet got.

10. Do not be paranoid with a password for the USB Key since you may give it to your friends to boot with it.

One does not need to download CloudOS.

11. I am extremely unhappy since the EyeOS which had all the tiny utilities is hijacked by a Spanish Company, I believe and they do not let you log in.
I had a log in password with them before this was taken over by a company.
 

EyeOS is the tiniest cloud utility and I still have a CD of it.

I may post it (image) in a public folder for others to copy since it was mainly Open Source.

My only problem is like that of the Email, when I KICK the Bucket or when I expire either due to old age or faulty memory who will look after my CLOUDs of Clouds of OLD Age.

I will have to sort this out with the Maha Brahma, who is the chief of all the Eastern (not Western or Muslim gods) GODS.

I will certainly take all my USB sticks to be interned with me on a sealed blackbox when I EXIT properly from this planet/world for the computer guys / girls of the next century see that their was mad Guy by the name EXiT.

Joli OS and JoliCloud.

My investigation into Linux has taken me into Cloud Computing (I have written a book on cloud computing, too) many uncharted quarters.
This is one of those Happy Moments.
I am considered a founder member of the Jolly Cloud.
They have now developed the Jolly Drive.
Go to their site and download the CD image or Windows exe file .
They say it is less than 700 MB but unfortunately Windows exe file is over that limit and one need a DVD.
I am not going to try it on a windows since I do not use Windows.
Making a Flash drive is bit messy.
I would use my net booting utility instead of their USB Creator.

In fact Linux sh file is dysfunctional with lot of garbage.
 
One may use the USB Key to boot up or use the USB Key to install it on the hard drive partition.

Computer BIOS should let you boot up from the Flash Drive and an old BIOS may not have this option.

Sign up with their Help Center and follow the instructions.
I have forgotten where I have kept my USB Key.
 

I finally found it having booted about 20 USB sticks with various Live Linux distribution in them.

I rarely use USBs now.

Why use them when I have many computers with many Linux derivatives running including Ubuntu 12.04.

I have some more things for future including why I should not buy anymore hardware or SSDs.
It is because of FreedomBox which is platform independent Debian Cracker.
It will run on Rasberry PI, too.
Still at development stage and good one for Linux article writers.
I will write about it once I have digested the trend.
Already downloaded the image not a iso file.

Gambas is a free development environment based on a Basic interpreter with object extensions, a bit like Visual Basic™ (but it is NOT a clone !). 

With Gambas, you can quickly design your program GUI with QT or GTK+, access MySQL, PostgreSQL, Firebird, ODBC and SQLite databases, pilot KDE applications with DCOP, translate your program into any language, create network applications easily, make 3D OpenGL applications, make CGI web applications and many more robust work
 

The Gambas project aims at making a graphical development environment based on a Basic interpreter, so that the language is as easy as Visual Basic under Linux but much better and less bugs.
The phenomenal quantity of bugs and inconsistencies in Visual Basic had persuaded developer me to start a fresh project. 

It seems that Microsoft was aware of the poor quality of its language, as VB, dot-Net (.Net) was not made backward compatible with older versions of Visual Basic.
Gambas does not try to be compatible with Visual Basic, and will never be. Its syntax and internals are far better than the one’s seen in its proprietary cousin.
The author who had very good understanding of Visual Basic from childhood, took from Visual Basic, the Basic language, the development environment and the user interfaces and dropped the bad practices in common use of Visual Basic program and made Gambas coherent, logical and reliable as possible.
 

Features
Below are the main features of Gambas and what sets it apart from the other languages.
Gambas is a Basic language with object extensions. A program written with Gambas is a set of files. Each file describes a class, in terms of object programming. The class files are compiled, then executed by an interpreter. From this point of view, it is very inspired by Java.
Gambas is made up of the following programs:
A compiler.
An interpreter.
An archiver.
A graphical user interface component.
A development environment.
The development environment is written with Gambas itself, so that I can show the abilities of the language and is useful for debugging.
What are the features that set Gambas from the other languages?
1. A Gambas project is stored under one directory. The archiver transforms the project directory structure in one sole executable file.
2. Compiling a project only requires the compilation of the modified classes. Every external reference of a class is solved dynamically at the execution time.
3. Gambas has a component architecture that allows it to extend the language. Anyone can write components as shared libraries that dynamically add new native classes to the interpreter.
Components can be written in Gambas too. The component architecture is documented in the Wiki encyclopaedia.
4. By default, the Gambas interpreter is a text-only program. The component architecture is used for writing the graphical user interface part of the language.
5. As the graphical user interface is implemented as a component, Gambas is independent of any toolkit!
One will be able to write a program, and choose the toolkit later : GTK+, Qt4, etc.
6. The graphical user interface is the Qt4 toolkit. The GTK+ component which is not finished will have almost the same interface as the Qt4 component.
7. Gambas projects are easily translatable, in any language.
8. Its object model is simple but powerful.

My name is Benoît Minisini.
I am a French man born in 1972, living in Paris. Programming is one my passion since I was twelve, and is now my job for many years now. This passion started with the Basic language on a CPC Amstrad 464, and later on an Atari 520 STE. Of course, now, I am using many other languages, but I never forgot that I have learned and done a lot with Basic.
I was always fond of writing languages, compilers, assemblers, and interpreters. I wrote a Z80 assembler on Amstrad and an interpreted language that consumed all its memory.
Later, during my studies at the E.P.I.T.A., I wrote a Lisp interpreter under Windows. During six months, I discovered its stupid memory model, the Microsoft compiler, and its numerous bugs.
Today, I keep on raging with the Gambas
Thanks to my boss, I have a half-time job, so I have worked actively on Gambas for the last years.
But I have other passions too, that burns lot of my time. That is music .
I’m playing flute for a long time – and theatre.
So, the development of Gambas is not as fast as it could be.

But that reference has no slur on this wonderful package which I love the most. Unfortunately only few of the distributions port it as is. 

Debian Gnome has this now.

That is why I was very expressive here.
It needs to be there for the young newbies to take root in Linux.

Mandriva based 238 MB Live CD lives up to the SAM-2007 origin.

It is sleek, boots up fast, has its own Browser named Web or is it NetSurf.

It’s package manger is called smart but has a limited number of packages listed.

This is good for a newbie to understand the inner working of a system that is really working and it is more than a base system.

The surfer is basic and has its own lack of cookies.

I cannot highlight a line and change the font colour (I am booted now with it but not rooted!) right now.

Hence, the font is in black.

I would have given it more marks / points if it had kept below 200 MB so that I could have it in my shirt pocket mini CD.

It has Openbox and number of other window mangers included in the smart package manager.

I would prefer this to be called the Mini Version but keep it under 200 MB should be the aim.

I think guys / girls in the developer suite should develop this Unity (Call it Manchester United -or it’s city of origin – to satisfy the football fans) into a more robust Light Weight category and then the Middle weight category and never Heavy Weight (but slow) like Mandriva and Suse.

Should take some cues from Peppermint and Element and decide when and where to dress it up for the next party or is it the next release!

It has root permission unlike in Ubuntu derivatives (which is a sad lack in spite of many derivatives of Ubuntu).

Overall it is a good distribution and I cannot find anything negative.

Now is the time to go up-staging and dress up for the party.

Guys and Girls whom would you like to be associated with now or never?

Companions in next Life
When we gather for a social occasion, when the things get heated or more likely things get very boring, I have a question for my limited audience (but now with blogging mushrooming all and sundry in the far corners of this planet).

If one believes in next life whom would you be comfortable to have in next round of associations.

 
Then, before they could gather any thoughts, I ask them to list 10.
The question is have they made 10 good friends not casual vagabonds.
I have a ready-made answer for the question, they ask me next?
Before they make up their mind they want my list of 10.
 

The answer is simple.
I have not yet found 10.
Then I divert their attention and say, had I found 10 in my life time, I would form a party and I would make this little country, the Miracle Country in 10 years.
Then if they persevere, very rarely that happens I give my categorization.

The scope is
1. Servants girls and boys are out by the first count.
2. My dogs come top of the list.
3. All the humans except a few fall in between
Then, I go on listing the dogs up to 7 and with little mathematics only  3 are left.
Then I go on and ask would you like to be in the short list of 3.
They get dumbfounded by my last request.

So the discussion ends abruptly and we get on to another hot topic which by default is not gossip.

In my case I have a big problem.
Lot of my dog friends are gone and they are already in heaven and they were never my intellectual companions.
They were always physical companions and soul bodies.
I talk to them but they never talk back to me.
 

I look for friends who enlighten me in day to day life.
So if you have a good friend do not lose him or her.
Do not marry him or her too, then you might become enemies in no time due to boredom.
I am in a dilemma and quandary, whether to go to heaven with my dog friends or remain here in this world with few of my intellectual friends.
I prefer the latter.

Growing Grass Under My Feet

It is high time that we calculate the CO2 foot imprint of every living human being on this planet before it is too late.

It is one of the most important mathematical exercise that we can undertake now.

It may be easy to do that on an animal say a cow but it may be an extremely difficult proposition for even a forest dweller of today.

Since he carries his cell phone and at least a box of matches or a lighter to the deep jungle, his carbon footprint cannot be even remotely compared to a pre-historic man. 

Where ever he set foot even the deep-sea shore he leaves behind lot of CO2 footprints.

What we can do is to calculate it for an average American and then compare with a Chinese, Indian and hypothetical man who lives for 60 years.

On the alternative we can calculate for a bull or cow and extrapolate that to a sedentary American man.

American Man eats 3 to 4 cows by the time he is 45 and probably 5 by the time he says good-bye having consumed every possible advantage and resources available on this planet earth.

Then we calculate for a hypothetical bionic man who needs energy for all his activities including his air travel from say New York to New Delhi and all over the globe in one year to schedule a typical American company owner (Elon Musk fits the bill).

Then we have to figure out how many Americans live hand to mouth existence with minimum of a car ownership.

The equations will go like this

1.  5 bulls X USA (poor American)=USA (poor)

2.  USA X USA (Wealthy American) roughly equivalent to 25 bulls

3.  Total Bull consumption  = A x USA X USA (Wealthy) + B x USA (poor)

A= Total Rich Americans

B= Total Poor Americans

4. Now 3  has to be divided by (American census-minus rich Americans)

5. Now 3 has to be divided by  (American census-minus poor Americans)

4 and 5 gives the ratio of consumption in nearest approximation to current American Standards.

The results 4 and 5 should be multiplied to get a total figure.

This figure should be now divided by the total current human population.

My estimate even without going into nitty-gritty of the equation is like this.

  1. An average American (poor) will have a figure of 1000

  2. A rich American will be 1000 x 1000

  3. Average Chinese is 100

  4. Rich Chinese will 100 x 100

  5. An average Indian will be 10

  6. Rich Indian 1000 x 10000 (more than that of a rich to American)

The total CO2 foot print of China comes first.

America comes second.

And India comes 3rd even though the population come only second to China since after many years of open policies some Indian still live and breath air and do not produce much CO2 since their meals are going down including onions.

This is what India call it 21st century progress and send rocket to the space and moon and still find a way to fail in Cricket World Cup including completing of venues.

While China is barely able to feed its masses India has failed to make a square meal for the poor whereas a poor American eats 100 times equivalent to a poor Indian.

Mind you a rich Indian with a Maharaja Image produces much CO2 footprint than an American. 

This equation has nothing to do with the bank balance or capital of an individual except it has somewhat close relationship with affluence.

There are some rich people who do an enormous amount of work to decrease our impact on the planet and I appreciate their efforts. 

This is an indirect complement to them.

I  want an American Scientist to disprove my equation and discovery and publish a relevant article in the prestigious magazine, American Scientist.

While all this happening I grow grass under my feet to cushion the CO2 foot prints of mine with my urine added to make it’s growth luxurious unlike our banana growers.

ArtistX

Version 1 has come.

It is fantastic and I have it in my K-torrent archives. 

I will seed it for at least 4 weeks.
Enjoy the fun while it is there.

It is 3.7 GB.
I have temporarily suspended testing Live CDs and thought of downloading a few heavy weight DVDs, just to satisfy some of the Linux fans who go for heavy weight fights without having fun with light weight guys.

After three days of downloading 2.4 GB of Gravity and Weight and tested this Ubuntu derivative that comes from Italy.

It has fantastic collections of artistic utilities including Blender, Adobe Flash and Wine.

The collection was fantastic but there are a few proprietary packages that might have problem in the West.

I must tell you I enjoyed watching CNN News with Adobe.
Once I was trying to download Adobe for Suse and their was a hitch and gave it up.
This is about the third time I had problem with Flash.
 

Genome should develop gFlash as soon as it is feasible lest I miss CNN News Flashes.

There are lot of things that I can hate and some of them are Linux acronyms.
I never use SMS and I was trained to use proper English or Sinhala in my vocabulary.
Yes, we use some jargon riddle terms in Medicine to hoodwink innocent patients and make them engrossed in their own misery.
 

That is no reason for Linux or computer guys to use short forms when one can use a fancy name like Imagination, Unity, Peppermint, Poseidon, PureOS and the like.

I am finishing my Linux downloads and testing and was going through the failed download list and found Idr-1.06 i686 and Google could not find a match this acronym.
After about half an hour I decided to type L instead of I and I got the Link to the iso.
It says Linux Done Right Iso which is  an Arch derivative.
I do not think they have done anything right in their naming strategy.
They have got totally bogged down in the acronym jungle.

Arch is a very sleek distribution and its derivatives have become orphans at birth.
 

In any case, I could not get the 1.06 version since Linux Done Right has already gone to 1.10 and in between 1.08 was missing in number in sequence.

These guys/ Girls are absent minded professors even before becoming old like me.

There is another which I remember by heart since it is a Gamer’s Linux.
Games is something we lack in Linux. 

In that scenario we must make it very attractive for newbie.
The name goes as lglive.
It is again Arch Linux derivative.
Its web site is live.linux.gamers.net
Acronym shows the way they think right to left instead of left to right.
Even a learned Arab will get confused in this terminology.
By the way, Arch Linux gamers is one of the best Linux game CD/DVD.
This is a malady of Linux Guys and Girls and as a doctor I do not treat them since if I treat them they stop using the creative part of the brain and stop being creative. 

 

Many of us do not use this part of the brain even if  we decide to stand on our head to get blood flow to that area.
Why this is I do not know.
But I have one theory from childhood our teachers suppress the creative children for life and children fear authority and especially their math teachers. Our language is character based (they have no meaning) unlike graphic based Chinese and Japanese.
Children like graphic and not character based letters (in fact they hate letters).

This is why Chinese are good at tearing part an American plane hijacked and fix it in three days without an English manual to working order.
 

They figure out the structure and not the manual written in letters.

There is something wrong in English character map especially when the are made into Acronyms and SMS.

This is again in response to a YouTube guy who is raising caste systems in Public. 

It is of poor taste. 

This pieces should read in connection with the piece where  "Cast System is Endemic in Ceylon".

Ampitiya is a corruption of "An Pitiya".

I would use the term "Log Horns" instead of "Lock Horns"  to translate this Sinhala term to English.

Ann is horns.

Pitiya is the ground where they had "Tug of War" in the past  when new year was celebrated.

British of course, distorted the Kandyan history for their advantage.

I must state two things before expanding on, bulls and buffaloes in a different piece.

My father comes from Elkaduwa where they made swords ,knives and kris-knives for battle ready soldiers.

My mother comes from Ann Pitiya now Ampitiya where the standard name of the clan was  Heath. 

My dearest friend and elder relative's name is Asoka Herath. 

 He is well versed in local traditions like our Indika Thotawatta. 

If I miss a point I always ask him for clarification.

There is a stretch of paddy fields from the foothills of the Ann Pitiya hills down to the 3rd mile post and beyond to to Gururdeniya. 

I am not sure from where it originates. 

There is a stream that runs at the foot of the hill and that stream provides water for the paddy fields. He was a good paddy farmer. 

Every week he walks down to the Temple, Diwrum Bodhiya and having made an appointment with him, I walk with him to the temple.

We used to cut through the foot paths crossing the paddy fields and come to the main road and to the Ampitiya Roman Catholic School where they tried to convert me to Christianity.

Now the crunch points.

All what is writings (British Adaptation) about our last King except that he was of Tamil in Origin are cooked up stories. He used to come to the Temple named, Diwrum Bhodiya (take a pledge to defeat the British soldiers). The paddy fields stretch behind the temple. When the British destroyed the Nuwara Wela in Kandy at the foot hill of Dharmaraja (means Buddha) Kanda, the farmers moved to alternative sites.

One of my maternal uncles represented the sixth Buddhist Council  and he was the head monk of this Temple.  

I used to visit him regularly and he was one made me to improve English and persuaded me to take up Medicine as career.

It is time for us to have the seventh council now since guys like Umandava and Mahamevna are  fast at work destroying DHAMMA.

Ranil and Harini have taken the political and financial bidding with backing from India.

 Sixth Burmese Council (1954)
The Sixth Council was called at Kaba Aye in Yangon (formerly Rangoon) in 1954, 83 years after the fifth one was held in Mandalay. It was sponsored by the Burmese Government led by the then Prime Minister, the Honourable U Nu. He authorized the construction of the Maha Passana Guha, the "great cave", an artificial cave very much like India's Sattapanni Cave where the first Buddhist Council had been held. Upon its completion The Council met on 17 May 1954.

As in the case of the preceding councils, its first objective was to affirm and preserve the genuine Dhamma and Vinaya. However it was unique insofar as the monks who took part in it came from eight countries. 

These two thousand five hundred (2500) learned Theravada monks came from Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Ceylon, India, and Nepal. 

Germany can only be counted as the nationality of the only two western monks in attendance: 

Venerable Nyanatiloka Mahathera and Venerable Nyanaponika Thera (they founded the Buddhist Publication Society, BPS in , Kandy). 

They both were invited from Sri Lanka. The late Venerable Mahasi Sayadaw was appointed the noble task of asking the required questions about the Dhamma of the Venerable Bhadanta Vicittasarabhivamsa who answered all of them learnedly and satisfactorily. 

By the time this council met, all the participating countries had had the Pali Tripiṭaka rendered into their native scripts, with the exception of India.

The traditional recitation of the Buddhist Scriptures took two years, and the Tripiṭaka and its allied literature in all the scripts were painstakingly examined and their differences noted down and the necessary corrections made and all the versions were then collated. 

It was found that there was not much difference in the content of any of the texts. Finally, after the council had officially approved them, all of the books of the Tipitaka and their commentaries were prepared for printing on modern presses and published in the Burmese script. This notable achievement was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the two thousand five hundred monks and numerous lay people. Their work came to an end on the evening of Vesak, 24 May 1956, exactly two and a half millennia after Buddha's Parinibbana, according to the traditional Theravada dating.

Ordinary guys were all bare foot soldiers.

So Kandyans guys with property donated them to the Temples and they did not stop at that. Several of them done the robe (none of them were of Upasampada) to run them. They carried their families with them had visited their wives on a regular basis and procreated, too. This is how the Sasana went into decadence and the Thai Monks had to come and reinstate Upasampada. 

In Buddhism or Sasana there is no caste system but these corrupt monks of the old, brought in the caste over time to Ceylonese Sasana which was the exact opposite of what Buddha wanted. 

In fact, these monks helped the British in the long run.

Umandawa Monk is the current epitome of these corrupt vestiges and he has no understanding of Dhamma and he should be described as a Planter. He is planting Mahayana traditions, too.

That is what he is doing on daily basis.  Upasamapada monks are prohibited from digging soil and planting trees. 

He is getting the gullible and stupid lay people to do that for him.

Aiding and abetting in British Law one is culpable and applying that to Dhamma is not a necessary prerequisite.

Hinduism united the Tamil people.

Coming to Ampitia, the British acquired this land and gave it to the Church to run the Seminary to train clergy.

Not only they destroyed our traditional sports but the culture associated with, too.

Sharing Swap space between distributions

I just booted EndevourOS (ARCH based) and looked at the partition table using Gparted of my NUC.

MX Linux had labelled the two SWAP partitions as MX Linux.

I reformatted both Swap partitions. Then, I booted MX Linux to see it hangs up at booting (re-formatting SAWP partition). It did not but booted as usual.

Lot of these facts, I did not know. I have three distributions in my NUC and two Swap Partitions. My only concern is the speed of booting and smooth functioning when running. I won't install a distribution until I have tested it on a live USB, many a times. I write a piece in this blog site and review each new and past comments I have made. The other major concern is the compatibility of the Debian's GRUB file. 

I shun all distribution that run on root mode and Ubuntu is one of them I shun the most. 

DeepIn from China included.

It is mandatory one should run on a user level always unless one is doing some maintenance work.

I depend on chron jobs and deamons and do not run my NUC 24/7 like a server.

One who runs a Server should be very cautious, since even a Linux guy can become promised by another Linux guy with a hacker mentality. I never use Kali and Parrot OS, If I need any investigation. Tails has fallen out of my domain and Gparted does not have a Live CD iso probably due to concerns raised above. One has to install it as an application which I always do.

So I cannot format or erase SWAP partitions even if I wish to do so. Worse scenario I can mount an old Puppy Linux and format any partition at will. I used to do that with Knoppix and Knoppix cannot mount my integrated graphic card of my NUC in a live session.

I am not paranoid anyway.

Sharing Swap space between distributions

Sharing-is-caring asks: Is it possible to share swap space between multiple distros? Is it safe?

DistroWatch answers: Yes, it is possible to share the same swap partition across Linux distributions. Whichever distribution is running will keep track of where it writes data to the swap partition and ignore anything else in the swap space. Assuming each distribution is only running one at a time and you're not sharing a swap partition between two operating systems running in parallel, perhaps on virtual machines, there will be no problems with two distributions sharing the same swap space.

The question asked if sharing a swap partition is safe and I'm guessing the concern is with information leaking out from one operating system to another. This could happen, but it can happen whether the operating systems are sharing the same swap partition or if they're using separate swap partitions. Whichever operating system is running has full access to your hardware, meaning data written to one distro's swap partition can be read by another distro.

Let's say you have one trusted distribution (called Distro A) and one distribution with untrusted software running on it (Distro B). When Distro A is running it might write sensitive information, such as a password, to swap space. When Distro B runs a malicious program could scan the swap partition and find the password. This is true whether the two distributions share the same swap space or not. Any partition connected to the computer will be visible to both distributions and therefore still vulnerable to malicious programs running on Distro B.

If you're concerned about one distribution reading and compromising security by reading data left in your swap space, you can detach the swap partition and wipe it clean just before you shutdown your computer. Let's look at an example.

First, we need to determine on which partition our swap space is located. We can do this with the swapon command:

$ swapon -s

In this example we discover the swap partition is located at /dev/sda2. We will detach this swap partition with the swapoff command:

$ sudo swapoff /dev/sda2

Finally, we overwrite the swap partition (sda2 in this example) with random data. We can do this with the dd command:

$ sudo dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/sda2

At this point, if we restart the computer, whichever distribution we boot will not be able to see what was previously written to the swap partition.

SZBOX-S1 is a DDR5 RAM in a USB stick Frame is even smaller. This stick is meant to be attached to a monitor with HDMI IO port. It is not suitable for games but ideal for a workspace where space is limited. It can hide behind the big TV but switching on and off will be cumbersome. I think if you have a portable mini TV this stick make it a work companion in a restricted space. SZBOX S7 is seven inch and with visual handicap I would go for 10" mini TV and this mini Stick. I won't recommend it for a car TV since watching TV while driving should be prohibited to prevent (RTA) road traffic accidents.

There is another stick with DDR4 which I can stick on my NUC with DDR 4. I fear sticking a DDR5 stick which different bus speeds might burn my NUC (CI) circuit board.

Do not stick these on an OLD PC even by accident.

This is a DDR4 RAM integrated into a mini Circuit Board and a USB port IO.

It has HDMI port for video and SD slot for DATA.

Thinks are getting smaller and nanometer chips are coming out. There enough holes in the modified plastic frame for heat dissipation. I want use this with over 10 USB sticks booting many Linux Distribution.

This stick is Linux compatible for Linux enthusiasts.

I have and old Laptop with limited Graphic Functionality and a Basic NUC with Intel iris integrated Graphic card. 

They are OK for my general work but not for gaming.

What I would do if I wanted play some games.

1. I need to select a reasonable graphic card. from 4000 to 5000  to 8000 series.

2. GTX PC Frame which has 8 pin female power sockets.

3. Power supply for the GPU.

4. Necessary power cords 

5. Assemble each piece in the ATX frame.

6. Test to whether in working order.

7. Fix a frame for old DVD into the ATX frame.

8. Mount my NUC on the ATX which need separate power supply.

For the Laptop

Connect the eGPU or external GPU with a HDMI cord.

Power on both GPU first and the Laptop second.

Select the eGPU instead of the internal GPU.

 

There in no guarantee that this would work.

 

Besides, wrong power supply would ruin the GPU in five seconds with a major fire hazard.

All computer gadgets works on DC power not AC power.

Except perhaps for oculink gadgets they work on 15 DC power.

So, look at the manufacturer's instructions for power requirements and choose the appropriate step down transformer.

 

Buying cheap Chinese alternatives is a liability. 

 

Do not mix with different manufacturers.

 

Select the same manufacturer for all the components.

Third party alternatives are cheap but not rigorously tested.

They sell 100 pieces at a time and a few of them bound to be of quality and below the standards.

D.I.Y is fun but with so many generic manufacturers it is open sesame or open door for low Quality.

I am guy who has over 30 years experience in assembling my own PCs but I have had many mishaps.

1. Burned a 128 Graphic Card once in 32 bit mode.

2. Burnt several RAM cards.

3. 2 analogue TVs and 3 second hand IBM computers (out of 15), caught FIRE, all due to voltage drop in power supply in Ceylon.

 

I dismantled all 32 bit computers and bought new 64 bit stuff.

 

I hear that a major Power Generator in Atthidiya caught fire, the other day.

 

I had spare money when I was working.

 

I have Given Up all these risky hand on experience in my retirement.

My NUC consumes consume only 18 watts and is not a fire hazard.

 

Multicore and Multithread CPUs and Expensive Graphic Cards (some need water cooling) consume lot of Energy.

My theme now is save money, save energy and save space.

Small is beautiful was my theme all my life.

I hate gadget megalomaniacs unless he she is a game player.

AntiX Legacy Kernel and Modern Kernel

Update on AntiX

Yes, AntiX failed to have persistence copy of Abiword after installing it on a live session. Abiword is about 280MB in total. 

Yes, I am switching to Puppy Linux either Debain Pup or Ubuntu FossaPup.

It is much easier to use Puppy Linux with Abiword than fiddling with AntiX. It has LibreOffice which I begin to hate because of its bulk with so many language packs.

Its latest kernel 23.2 Full install.

It is about 2.2GB Image.

Antix has tons of applications which I used in the past.

I still wonder why I settled down with Gnome of Debian.

It does not have Abiword.

I fiddled with  Synaptic Package Manager and got it installed and made a persistent root file in the NTFS partition. I hope it will retain Abiwrd when I boot it next time.

Unlike Easy OS it does not fill the remaining portion of the USB.

That may be the reason for shunning AnitX.

Looking back that was a mistake. 

Had I continued with that writing the Linux Essentials book would have been much smoother and less time devoted. I have not made an entry on either AntiX and MX Linux, the latter is a modernized version of AntiX.

What I really like about AntiX is it uses IceWarm Window Manager which is pretty cool.

I prefer AntiX and it has three versions including KDE.

It has many Window managers, Flux box, IceWarm, JWM and Minimal vs Rox version.

It has Dillo, Firefox and Transmission.

What MX Linux had done is to give a modern desktop look and simplify the organization and put all the tools not fit in any category as MX Tools.

Both are very good Linux distributions and I wonder why people go for Arch Linux or  Linux Mint. 

One lacks applications and one has to install one application at a time. 

The other has glossy desktop and looks for commercial proprietary codes.

AntiX had host of utilities.

Beauty is Linux has many varieties of distributions to cater for any user mentality.

I am not a regular user of MATE Desktop.

While Finalizing on my book on Linux, I decided to test on MATE desktop.

I installed it on top Debian Gnome using Synaptic Package manager.

I look at the control center (in Gnome that is the case) to see whether I can user in addition to the administrator account.

I could not find one even under Administration.

Big disappointment but on second though I looked at the application and I found mate-user-admin.

I installed it

The Icon is MATE User Manager.

I do not think one would come across this problem one uses MATE Image for installation.

This is an advice to the newcomers to Linux.

If something is missing before launching a YouTube attack, please do some research or ask somebody who knows about MATE or go to their forum.

Problem with Human Language

There are 2000 functional languages in this world. 

There were 2500 to begin with. 

They are not uniformly structured. 

This is almost similar to the types of mosquitoes in this world. 

Very strange coincidence.

 

Chinese have over 6000 characters and they keep adding to this tech soup. Each Chinese character takes 2KB of memory. 

This problem applies to Japanese, too.

 

Sinhala has about 56 chatecters. This I found from Metta Vihari of  Baudhaloka Buddhist Center when we were developing computer code for Sinhala characters. Our own Anuradha started it but when he was snatched by a Fortune company, this foreign monk took over, I do not know wheter he accomplished it.

I remember this Wicked Monk, since he gave me only two of the 3 Fedora CDs. I bought a book with two Red Hat CDs and did install it on my PC. 

Lately, of course I befriended a  guy in NUGEGODA and got everything from Singapore. He had worked in Singapore.

 

But current Sinhala has 61 characters with English f added to it.

Sinhala is the corruption of Pali phonetics.

 

Pali has 41 phonetics and was a spoken language not a written language. 

Pali uses diatribes to show the accent. 

 

So when Dhamma was written in 1700 years later (? Parinibbhana) in Ceylon many corruption may have ensued.

French has the same alphabet as English but has many forms of accentuation which I could not mater after 2 years of trying. 

I gave up both French and visiting Paris for good.

Not a worthwhile adventure.

 

America English has 200 characters and each take 1KB.

Russians have the smallest alphabet of 33 characters and takes up minimum of memory in computer design.

That is why they are ruling the world today in the sky and space. 

Sputnik was the first to rule the space. 

Elon Musk be mindful of the limitation of English characters when he moves to Mars.

Now we are on the threshold of Quantum computers. 

I think AI has to design a language with minimum of characters to function as a language. 

Only robots could decipher it and it will be gibberish for humans.

 

That is the bottom line.

 

That is my contribution to Quantum Computing.

Only Human Robots could enter the Galactic Travel and we have to depend on them to understand our Universe.

 

We will never be able to understand the alternative Universes.

They are beyond three dimensions.

We are limited by our vision and the speed of light but there is no limitation for our imagination.

This is based on General Philip J Corso's revelations but I have my own insinuations.

American Scientists are shy to say that the inappropriately rapid advances made in science are due to reverse engineering of retrieved crashed alien crafts.

 

It is mysterious how they crashed, if alien technology was superior.

 

1. Number one for me is Genetic Engineering as a medical man.

 

2. The crafts were operated by EBENs or biological entities and not real beings like humans.

 

3. They were AI beings with artificial brains and could be spared if they were to be captured by humans.

5. Their integrated circuits were microscopic and now, we are beginning to make small circuits of 7 to 9 nanometers thick.

The target is to reach 2 nanometers and I believe Chinese have achived this and that is why Americans are panicky.
