Sad Story of Ian's Demise and Police (American) Abuse

Ian Murdock-Sad Demise

Sad Story of Ian's Demise

Ian Murdock-Sad Demise

Ian was Debian Founder.
I think his wife Debra Coined the name Deb-Ian.

In this country if you cross the police YOU mysteriously disappear.

In America the way do it different.
It amounts to brutality.

Linux Community lost a Father Figure.

Linux community all round the world should mount a protest against this brutality!

It is Like TexStar Leaving (retiring, prematurely) from PCLinux.

Reproduction

A wealthy computer expert has been found dead following an encounter with police which left him hospitalised.
Ian Murdock, a millionaire software engineer famed for his work on a free operating system called Debian, took to Twitter before his death and published a number of astonishing police brutality allegations.
In a long series of social media posts, the 42-year-old father claimed "uneducated, evil, and sadistic" cops attacked him.
But the San Francisco Police Department said he was drunk at the time of his arrest, and was injured when he banged his head accidentally.
Murdock was detained early on Sunday morning, before issuing a tirade of tweets upon his release, which only stopped shortly before he died.
His Twitter account has now been closed, but records of it are being openly shared online and can still be found in Google's cache.

In his tweets, the tragic programmer threatened to commit suicide and claimed officers "beat the s*** out of him".
"My career is over now, so I'll be gone soon," he tweeted on Sunday.
Cops told the tech website The Register and a local newspaper site called SFGate that the tragic tech mogul was arrested on Saturday December 26 after police received reports of a man trying to break into a house.
Murdock had allegedly been drinking and was aggressive with officers, later sustaining a wound on his forehead which required hospital treatment.
San Francisco police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan said this injury happened when Murdock banged his head whilst struggling with officers in the back of a police car.
He was then hauled out of the car "to keep him from harming himself", she alleged, before being taken to hospital.
Murdock was then released and arrested a second time at 2.40am on Sunday morning after banging on a neighbour's door, before being locked in jail and bailed for $25,000.

Human Bond and Human Cruelty

Let me start with the cruelty.
I was poisoned three times in my life.
Once due to strict management reasons and twice due to personnel vendetta.
One of those incident was almost fatal and I left private sector for good after that incident.

I Left Ceylon never to return but I did return.

I was mindful of these tragic events and took action almost immediately for full recovery.

I never did not bother to find who did it.

Reminds me of the Dhammpada Verse, (could not find the number of the verse) when the person who was hit by an arrow looks for one who shot him, instead of removing the poison arrow.

"Just like the dude shot by the poison arrow will die, if all he cares about is who shot him, what type of bow it is, and why,  etc.

I never bothered to follow the tracks.

By chance I found the verse 124 which states that poison does not effect one who does not carry evil intentions.

That may be true in my case.

This piece is about Human Bond in general not cruelty.

I used to remember Christian names of all my associates and address them by that.
I think I acquired this in my school and continued this in UK.
Never say Sir to anybody (unless he is a teacher).

Never use the Christian name for Superiors.

This is where I do not like the term "Sahodaraya" in daily life and in the University.
That is the difference in me and JVP/NPP.
I even hated the common addressing term, Uncle.
I turn back and say;
I think my brother/ father did not visit your mother at night.

I say I have a name and you are free to address me using that perhaps, if you are afraid use doc part in front.

But I do not care.

I can still remember their names some including the surname whom I have recruited in private sector and in the University.
This approach puts them at ease and I did not have to follow my instructions, rarely orders.
Some of the good ones I miss, when they left the assignment recruited  for, for a better one.
One last question I ask is, how long one is prepared to work with me.
Guys who left me were mostly computer guys with talent.
Non of them had the chance to learn Linux Tricks from me.

I use to say; it a loss for me but DO NOT lose him!

Reminder of Food Values in Ceylon in the Past

If I remember right these values were registered during Internal War but without war the prices are exorbitant.

Sri-Lankan Food Stuff, the Visitors can be proud of

Average Sri-Lankan loves good food.
I am one of them.
With the Commonwealth Conference due in November, I want the visitors to taste our food and enjoy our culinary delights.
There are many, I know few of you will come back to enjoy the food in yearly basis.
I pity the Canadians did not come.
They lost  a big trick and our culinary delights.
They can remain in Canada and continue to eat Junk Food
.

I will high light the ones below Rs.100/=
If you raise that to Rs.1000/= the delight will spiral up like a rocket.
What I am saying is one need not waste on a buffet inside a hotel.
Come out and enjoy.

Under Rs.100/=
1. Top place goes to Ice Tea which is Rs.45/= a small cartoon.
This is a product I said can beat Coca Cola by a mile several years ago.
They have proved it beyond any doubt.
Name is Hela Div
I love the Green Tea and the Peach Flavour.

2. Liquor Filled Chocolates
All less than Rs.100/=
They are the tastiest for the the price.
They are from Ceylon Biscuits Manufacturers
.

3. Banana Cakes
This is an upcoming item that I promote and is proud of.
They have not mastered it yet.
That is how to preserve the taste and flavour of the banana.
We have many varieties and flavours of banana.
This is something the Canadians going to miss.
We will post you the left overs soon.
I am discussing with our local bakers in Kandy to make a banana bread in time for the conference.
I hope at least one hotel in Colombo perfect the Banana Loaf (Bread) within the next month if they see this blog post.
The price varies from Rs.300 to Rs.85/=.

Facts one should know.
1. Poverty Line is Rs100/= a day.
2. Minimum Salary is Rs.200/= a day (Twice the Poverty Line)
3. At least once in three years the Labour Department should gazette this minimum pay.
4. It was not gazetted for over 10 years.
5. They are bypassing this requirement by giving an allowance and that is also once in 10 years.
One can understand my rationale for using under Rs.100/=.
If one eats a quality food portion a day one has to starve for the rest of the day.
The other option is to eat junk foods and we a nation eating junk foods and once a year we enjoy the delicacies.

What you eat in hotels are beyond the periscope of the poor citizen.

Things to consider Buying a Mini PC/NUC

Things to consider Buying a Mini PC/NUC

The name NUC is used by even Bee Keepers for their bee hives.

One should not rush to buy a Mini PC because of the bargain price.

There is a bewildering array of Mini Computers.

I begin to love the ones with Touch Screen facility.

I am not a gamer and my gaming is restricted to cellphone games.

Steam Drive and Dock is an option but one has to pay for each game.
I supported Steam Drive, since at that time Linux lacked games.

It has changed now and I do not support Steam at all.
.
Steam deck cost around $375/= and it cannot be upgraded.
One can make a good gaming computer for $400/=.

I already have a NUC and it has 320GB SATA disk with 4 instances of Gnome of Debian.

My priorities go like this.

1. It should be Linux compatible.

I hate Microsoft Windows for many reasons and I have voiced them elsewhere on this blog site.

2. It should not have Windows installed where I can save a lot of dollars up front.

3. It should be under 200 dollars.
I do not like to waste money.
I already have a Big PC which is working fine.

4. It should not be bulky and I should be able to carry it abroad in my hand luggage.
It should not increase the weight of my luggage.

5. It should have at least 8GB RAM.
Mind you the operating system always run on RAM.
Linux runs well on 8GB and 4GB is the minimum.

If one is running Windows ask for at least 32GB RAM.

6. I prefer everything integrated to the motherboard including RAM.
Low end Mini PC have integrated graphic card.

7. 500GB Mini SATA is enough for me.
I already have two spare ones which I have collected over time before NVMe came into the market.
I hate PCIe.
If you have SATA disks already in your attic, see whether the Mini PC can accommodate one.
If not go for NVMe and they come in two sizes one short and one long.
Look for one with two NVMe slots.
One for the operating system and the other for DATA.

8. If one is a gamer one need a good graphic card.
It could be internal or external.
External is very cumbersome.

One can save a lot money by going for a less expensive graphic card.

Depending on the graphic card one need a cooling system.

9. Last point is whether one considers upgrading the system when one's money supply improves.

In that case do not buy integrated system.

10. WiFi card is important and one should be able to add wireless mouse and keyboard and a even Touch Screen monitor on top of mini PC.

11. Do not ignore the ports available including Ethernet.

12. If you are simple guy go for Mini PC which has Touch Screen on top. Alternatively one can look for a Mini PC that comes with a compatible separate Touch Screen.
If you do so, look for a design that had an incline surface or one which is hinged to the top and could be folded.

With so many on the market it not easy to decide which one to buy.
For me price is the determining factor and no more upgrades in future.

Laptop Killier, Apple Mac Killer, Mini PCs with a Touch Screen on TOP

Laptop Killier, Apple Mac Killer, Mini PCs with a Touch Screen on TOP

YES, these Mini PCs are Laptop and Mac Book Killers, simply because they are CHEAP not HEAVY and little bigger than a cellphone.

They are Mini PC with a touch screen.
Apple Mac has lost the trick.

Minisforum Atoman X7 of course is the high end piece. It is fully packed with features but even upgradable (really not necessary but go for the higher end piece when buying).

The lower end Gole2Pro is damn cheap less than 200 dollars and is portable but not upgradable.

The bottom line is one can buy two or three of these pieces for the price of Samsung cellphone or  Apple Mac or Steam Deck.

These devices can even be used as a cellphone (some do not have speakers).

In time to come they are going to be the market leaders, since they do not have proprietary hooks or links.
The glut of CPU, GPU and Mini Motherboards with many ports in the market is the reason for the market flood.
Big PCs are going to be obsolete and what I really like is these gadgets will penetrate the Global South.

American domination will go for major slide with China and Taiwan taking the lead.

Nicolle Machiavelli, the Diplomat and now, President Putin

This is a subtle advice to President Anura Dissanayake.

Nicolle Machiavelli, the Diplomat

Machiavelli had two paths for success for a prince.

Mind you these are all against
Dhamma Principles of Buddhism.

Path one is of absolute ruthlessness.
King has to a be an ace liar.
He has to be miserly to his subjects.
He has to be very lavish for his retinue.
He should be harsh to the people.
He should have an army.
He should purge powerful military men.
In other words he should murder the Generals when Italy was fully conquered.
Italy was divided into three, Florence, Naples and Roma and headed by vested interests.

He should not trust flatters.

He should be surrounded by wise men.

If there any left in Ceylon, I doubt.

Other path is diplomacy.

For diplomacy to work there should be laws that control the commoner or his subjects.

Subjects should fear him.

Subjects should honour him.

Only after satisfying the above two provisos, he should show kindness to some of his favoured subjects.

Always guard against the flatters.

In Human history, the
Fear was the base for power.
Fear of death, disease, disability and old age are natural to humans.

The slogan is these natural tendencies should be harnessed to remain in power.

Rulers are
King first
Army second

Law and order the last.

Democracy never works.

War is common in human history.

Diplomacy was rare.

Nicolle Machiavelli, I believe was a classic example of how diplomacy was muted in the medieval history having subdued all opponents by any mean including fear of death and punishment.

These are all real and perceived threats.

Whereas as the threats created by Church are not teal but man made concoctions.

There were 3 elements in history.
King
Pope
Army

Councillors were non existent.

All my life I did not know who was Machiavelli.

An old lady whom I used to see on medical grounds, when I visited her, gave me a book in Sinhala, called Prince.

This lady is no more and she lived well past 80.

She was
a real political character and there were no political overtones in my simple consultations.

The paradox was that she claimed that she followed
Buddha Dhamma.

I refused, since its content were political but on second thought accepted it.

Once, I tried to read it but got bored instantly.

Today, Google enticed me with several YouTube presentations.

This is an attempt to relive his attempts on diplomacy.

He was called prince of political philosophy.

To begin with politics has no philosophy.

Politics is the manifestation of Greed and Power.

The three who manifest this greed are obvious.

Depending on the Power of  the Pope and his greed for territorial claims and dominance Wars were created by design.

Pope was the greediest of all.

Once war is started even Pope cannot intervene since there are many sectors including
Orthodoxy.

We need a modern Machiavelli of high repute.

I do not think we would find one until,
Ukraine is decimated in full.

Do not put the blame on President Putin.

He is prepared to drag this war until the presidential election in US is over and done with.

Then only, a suitable diplomatic entity should emerge.

I do not think Donald Trump has understood the extent and he will invariably be controlled by the Military Industrial complex, when he comes in to power.

I do not think President Putin should trust any American and their one sided diplomacy until he has reached Odessa and a real corridor of defense is established..

Zelensky is an American Baby Doll, an Untrustworthy Soul of Hate.

He thrives on Hate of Russians.

There is something called Zelensky Curse, anything he touches burns to ashes.

The last in this SAGA are Kamala Harris and Joe Biden.

It is TRUE.

One has to accept the American Defeat (of the Military Industrial Complex) and the Americans have to swallow the bitter pill.

Americans do not know how to accept DEFEAT.

Biden wanted Putin changed and it would turn out to be that the opposite of what he intended would materialize.

His own downfall is certain.

Biden and his policies would be changed without a single gun fired towards America.

Already 5,000 Russian soldiers are dead.

Ukrainian death toll is estimated to be over 500,000 and a ratio of over 1 to 10.

Russians stood up to the Nazis, the current Nazis are in the Democratic Party.

Democratic Party should be ousted to begin with.

I do not know how many are displaced and how many are permanently wounded in Ukraine.

Probably that runs into millions and much more than the second world war casualties.

Killing fields should be stopped that include Kursk in Russia, initiated by the NATO Guys.

I think President Putin has achieved that target, too.

Products of Uncertainty Principle

 Products of Uncertainty Principle

12. I have added a new category today (27-10-2024).

That is Ceylonese Political parties.

They appear like mushrooms.

We have over 80  and actors fading in their industry have joined the band wagon. I hate them (actors in politics) by default.

There is tendency for Alternative Media but none of them is Truly Independent.

A. Number One is the Slot Machine

1. Opportunity

2. Unpredictable Rewards

3. Repeatability

4. Endless Captivating Loop

It plays 16 games a minute.

B. Financial Institutes and Stock Market

Stock market with thrives on this principle.

There is no better example.

Products

C. Gambling

Already mentioned in the slot machine but buying and selling Lottery Tickets with unfathomable odds is a money making and working industry.

D. Social Media

All social Media works on this principle and the advertisements behind these Media Moguls make a fast buck including Google.

E. Dating Applications

I have no working experience on Dating applications.

F. Gig Economy

One can see these products coming from China like mushrooms.
The have a large population to entice and few of them become global.

G. Blogging

My Blogging Activity is a good example.

However it has matured into a good platform for Linux and a base for my books.

I do not run short of ideas, even though, I shun political commentaries, I make random political analysis to keep the visitors to my page entertained.

H. Evolutionary Behavior

Yes uncertainty is an Evolutionary behavior.

If not for that human civilization would not have evolved in to present day catastrophe.

It is like Pigeons pecking for food.

Hunter gatherer did the same thing in finding food.

Searching for food when hungry was natural but a random event.

Finding new type of foods was the end result.

I. I have added a new category today (27-10-2024).

Linux Revisited
Epilogue-Linux Revisited
There may be lot of missing items in this book.
I did not try to be comprehensive.
Then it becomes a Linux Bible.

I have avoided partitioning and hardware support deliberately.

Little is changed in partitioning skills except the partitioning type.
My only warning is be careful when choosing the new partitioning types.
I tried to be bit narrative this time round instead of being analytical and scientific.
The analytical approach was necessary when the Linux was in early stage of development and the there was an activity hype.
Now it is on stable ground except where cutting edge changes are made to take the benefit of hardware and platform changes.
Linux is mature and robust now.
One has to make a choice depending on one’s needs.
I will summarize my subjective / objective selection for my use and the reader has to decide his/her own choices.
If you are using it as a hobby one need at least two computers (I had 10or more) or perhaps three one being a laptop/netbook.

One has to be dedicated for testing.

Now I have gone down to only one computer, there will be less and less input from me in the immediate future even at web / Internet level.
If I do not put them in writing or digital form, my time of testing them would be a void.
That is the very reason I am publishing this book for an entry level Linux user to browse before he//she start experimenting with Linux.
Teething problems and pain is taken care of, for one who is without a proper Guru.

My choices are
1. General Use
Peppermint for Light Weight
Debian for all six desktops

2. Hobby
Puppy Linux
Knoppix

3. Education
Uberstudent

4. Scientific
Poseidon Linux

5. Technical Use

Dynabolic for Music

ArtistiX for Graphics

Debian for Programming

6. Kids and Games
Picaros Diego

7. Games
Steam OS with a New 64 bit computer

If you analyze the above there is a missing distribution.
That is Ubuntu.
The reason being I have never used it except for demonstration and Ubuntu was not in existence when I started Linux.

I cut my teeth in Linux with Redhat 7 and 8 and Fedora is a Redhat derivative.
It is also not in the above list.

Hantana (Ceylonese) Linux is based on Fedora!

All the other distribution fall in between the above specifications.
Any one can be used without a problem as long as there is no conflict with hardware compatibility.

If I am allowed only one choice I would go for Debian because it has a vast repository.

I prefer light weight distributions since cloud computing is the way things are moving.
I have minimal requirements and that is writing and for that also I find Abiword is just as robust as LibreOffice.
Its outstanding feature is its files are light weight and I can upload and download them quickly.

There is another reason its format is dedicated to it so others, cannot steal or modify them from my cloud hosting base unless they have Abiword with them.

One thing that nobody can take away from you is if you master a skill using one utility or software that remains with you for a Life.

Skills I have learned having migrated from Microsoft to Linux is making my life easy and has expanded my horizon.

There is no limit to my exploration.

I feel free and not being subjected by exploitation, and Apple Mac and Microsoft Windows exploit YOU, for Life.

That is, the FREEDOM is a wonderful feeling.

Saying Good Bye to OLD Hard Disks

Reproduction
Saying Good Bye to OLD Hard Disks

If you want to buy an external hard drive, my advice is wait a bit, the prices will come down drastically when the market is saturated.
Wait for SSDs.
In my case all my little videos, photos and all my pdf books can be put in a 32 GB Smart Slim Card.

Why buy Mega Disk?
Power cords and casing are extras.

I have over nearly 20 hard disks of various sizes and shapes loaded with over 500 Linux distributions and I use the lightest distribution
for my work.
I wanted to build an archive (fearing nobody will store them in the cloud) and the Smart Phones and Androids spoiled the soup.

As far as Android is concerned it has big Security holes, especially the Wireless Protocols.

So do not retire the WIRED connection till YOU die.
It is the fastest and the safest, if you use Linux TOR.

Firer-Optic does not serve YOU well if your computer's RAM is only 1 GB.
8 GB is my recommendation it is roughly Rs.1000/= for I GB.
This has gone up 300% with the economic down turn in Ceylon and hard to find. I bought enough RAM for my Old Laptop (it is very slow) and the two basic NUCs (one is for my son and he does not use it).

I use the cloud for storage which is probably a smarter choice.

The technology is pacing at fast rate and we are getting old very fast?

So, saying Good Bye to Linux, Internet and assortment of Emails are on the card and in the distant horizon.
