Progeria
Progeria is a rare genetic condition, most commonly Hutchinson Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS), that causes the symptoms of rapid, premature ageing to appear in childhood, though growth and development are otherwise normal. Children with progeria experience growth failure, hair loss, aged looking skin, joint abnormalities, with severe heart disease being the primary cause of death, often by the age 14.5.

Children often look normal at birth, but then develop a characteristic look including hair loss including eyebrows and eyelashes, thin lips, a small jaw, and prominent eyes. Slow growth and failure to gain weight are common. The skin becomes thin, wrinkled and may show underlying veins. Stiff joints, joint abnormalities, and hip dislocation can occur. Premature hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis) begins in childhood, leading to a high risk of heart attacks and strokes.
