MacPup 525 is Puppy derivative with enlightenment desktop and very pleasing to the eye.

What I cannot believe is how one puts all these features in 50 MiB.
That is the beauty of Linux and all the derivatives.
It has almost everything lupu 525 has but with eye catching Apple like (even better) desktop and if you want a fashionable outlook this one is for you.

The weather pattern has changed at least by three (3) months and the migratory birds that come in early April (Indian oriole) are still here. 

The rainfall was just enough to make plants survive, if one does not water them for three days, they are gone for good.

In good old days nobody water plants in Kandy and rest assured there is some inter-monsoonal rain at least once in 10 days to make sure nobody needs an exercise to water plants.

Palm trees especially the arecanut are disappearing fast and what remains is used for pandols. They need moist soil throughout the year for survival.

The rain came at an odd time disturbing the peace of tiny squirrels who came out ill prepared from their nest (because of the rain) and many lost their life to cats waiting for a meal.

They started jumping before actually walking across the tree trunks.

Having lost a large number as prey to cats now the remaining have learned basic lesson of survival.

Follow the trace (I think they leave a tiny bit of urine on tree trunks-urine is a universal marker in the animal world) on tree trunk or branches left by their elders or siblings, amble across instead of jumping and find their ways.

As I have noted earlier there is no undergrowth if a jumping effort fails or trees are far apart for their free movement.

My observation after watching the demise of the tiny ones tells me only way they can survive in my neighbourhood is by using the power lines that stretch from house to house (not telephone lines) and not trees.

They have realized point to point contact is the safest way instated of living in tree tops.

My house they have ample space and providing space for them have cut down on the rat population too.

They are intelligent and fast learners but few young one had to be sacrificed to learn the harsh realities of urban life.

If you love nature please do not have cat at home.

They are vultures, even though we feed them regularly and very lazy too and the rats know it well and come out only when they are asleep.
They are docile and sleep at least 16 hours a day and too lazy to catch rats.
They are good at stealing too from neighbours especially and have learned all the bad habits from humans.

I am writing this on a backdrop of a 20 year vilifying investigation of a Polish American doctor's plight to fight American mechanics and silence him.

I am not gone Bananas but some American Scientists and Regulatory Bodies have gone bananas!

They are going to study billion pieces of temperature data to see their accuracy.

They are getting a physicist to study a biological fact (climate issue).

Time and temperature are two dimensional elements and the time is a unidirectional concept and temperature is a perceived or measured concept.

Both are not adequate to study biological effects at random.

What we need is bio-indicators.
For one good bio-indicator of quality of water is tadpoles and frogs.

The Universe is billion bullion years old and earth is of billion years.

Then take a  sample from the last 50 years of supposed to be inaccurate data of temperature and CO2 and making policy decision, especially political but not scientific is ridiculous.

They are spending millions of American money on it and come up at the end of it, with inconclusive evidence for and against a given argument or a premise.

They could have spend it for a tree panting exercise globally and reap benefit in no time and provide at lease some fire wood for the poor.

I always ask a question philosophically of course, when I am at my tether to bring down an argument to a conclusion, if nothing is coming out of it.

Problem with this question is, it generates a plethora of publications for and against and at the end of it the answer is again not conclusive.

I can show him or her over 20 biological specimens and water plants affected by high ambient temperature which I have stopped measuring now.

In this case he should be prepared for the mosquitoes whom having a whale of a time because of the warm weather and take few home to show his friends as a proof that he really visited Sri-Lanka and not got this information by Googling for fun.

Dream-04 and its interpretation from Heaven

This dream was not exciting to say the least but it's interpretation by Maha Brahma was exciting.

We were going on a trip to Anuradhapura in a bus load of devotees and I was the bus driver.

We alighted ourselves from the bus for some ripe mangoes along the road side and everybody was busy eating mangoes.

When we returned one had a slight headache and the conductor open the First Aid Box for Panadol and to his surprise there was a little cobra inside the box. 

 

Then we looked around there were many little cobras in the bus and a slight commotion ensued and I was woken up.

Woken up, I looked under my bed and I found my dog sleeping and no cobras.

The I remember, the day before there was a little cobra (second time I saw it) in the hospital premises and everybody was blocking its exit route.

I told them even though it is a small guy, the poison is the same let it ease itself to his own safety from the humans and went on my business (no business these days).

So this was nothing exciting and there was an antecedent incident but I was puzzled, how come inside a First Aid Box and the setting was pious devotional expedition with mango tasting (Mango Friends -Ammba Yahaluwas).

In any case worth an interpretation of high order.

Posted it by email and I got a audio alert from AOL (Any Old Lady) with Maha himself calling.

I do not know how AOL got Maha's voice (really his assistant's and Maha is still on a not-American holiday) but true to American discoveries of the universe and beyond, I too got excited.

Then I discovered Maha was more excited than me having received my email.

I asked him why the hell or heaven he has given his voice to AOL.

He said he did not give it but American Secret Service has cracked the Heavenly Code and he is aware of it but no damage done to heaven since no American in the current century including Secret Service will get to heaven, the the way they are bombing the Middle East and there is some agreement with Hell to make a special American Cell in an island like where Srauss Khan was incarcerated for his pleasures on Earth.

The things I expect but blog Mangers / Adminstrators won't let me do

First of all let me tell some good things about all free blogs

1. Giving a free space in the blog is like giving water (to a stranger who is lost and stranded in the big world) and oxygen without which we cannot live.

Thanks a lot for that in spite of lot of advertising.

2. Secondly what they offer is html page with the code behind and I do not have have to have a html editor of my own.

In fact it is cloud computing.

3. Print industry (daily papers) never give this opportunity of freedom of expression (without vulgarity of course) to a stranger who has a different point of view.
They have some taboos, may be religion, may be race and many more hidden commercial agenda.

4. Like minded people get together spontaneously and one has to encounter opposition too.

5. In a world where people tend to get isolated and segregated this is a good outlet they have.
But remember only 10% use this and nearly 90% in the third world have no access or access which is very slow and poor.

6. For me this open up educational activity and apart from some satire I cannot use this type of activity in academic setup where there is some restriction, pomposity and arrogance.

7. Light humour is essential ingredient for healthy life and in countries where one party dominates and opposition view is surpassed this is the only avenue one has to dissipate inbuilt anger and frustration.

8. Email is a clumsy way to communicate but and is almost one to one and / or one to many where many is abused and junk mail is the result. 

Sometime one need anonymity to express a view that is suppressed and one cannot do that with email.

9. There is spell checker, colour and standard formatting and sometime ability include images which is sufficient for word possessing.

10. It gives comment space and above all it gives statistics which is very encouraging to see how many are with the same or opposite line of thinking.

Now let me tell you things that I would like them to include

1. Blogging is possible with one having all the senses intact for communication. 

Blind person cannot start a blog without some handicap.

I prefer an audio output for them, something similar to skype linked to the blog page.

2. Translation to at least the native language of the writer/s (Sinhala and Tamil). 

This will prevent abuse which I have seen in religious and racial nature at a different site.

3. There should be editorial control if something of that nature happens. At least there should be random checking and reference to comments and avoid political nature of the contents.

4. What I want very much is the ability to rearrange the content into either chapters or categories. 

Blogging is a random process and little thought is given at first. With comments and time it grows into some identifiable themes. 

When the contents are mature they should be put into themes with some identification tags or designs.

5. They should introduce cross-reference capability with links to private (one's own publications within the site and outside the site) and public (external links) publications with similar categories or items.

6. Then the blog site should thinks if it is bringing more interactivity to the site and should make print form available for reading (the less unfortunate who does not have access to Internet) at leisure.

In other word web form should transform into print form including braille and books for light reading.

In other word make it available universally until everybody who is somebody has an Android and Internet connection or Kindle.

More than ninety percent (90%)of the readers read mediocre news papers because of this lack of internet facility.

7. I will add to this when new ideas are perceived.

Cloning, Maha Brahma and American Pie

Maha Brahma (really his assistant) was bit confused with cloning and I need to send him a email with some facts.

Maha is good at making something out of nothing and he never had the pleasure of making something out of something what humans are very good at like making profits.

For example the tea dust costs about Rs. 5 to 10/= for a cup of tea but when tea is made into hot cup of tea it costs Rs.50 to 100/= nowadays in the city.

This we call value added and not profits.

When Maha is thirsty he makes vine (one flavour) from nothing and drinks and there is no value adding.

It nice for humans to visit heaven when they perfected a spacecraft now that endeavour is in limbo and see how they make things without any value added or taxes and enjoy it in one flavour instead of many.
He was in a hurry and (email chat of course) and I could not dispense him all the details. 
We are now doing nothing except industrial action and new entrants-going to be, are doing physicals in army camps, I was itching to let myself go (four weeks of no lectures is not something we are accustomed to) but he was only interested of my dreams and nothing else.
I missed part of my dream also.
I do not know what happened to the clones (two) and what happen to the originals brothers (twins).
My guess is that clones would have kill themselves and twins would have retired to grave digging.
Regard to cloning if one wants best results one has to clone the cells at the time of birth from cord blood and not when one is 60 years old with some underlying cancer brewing and waiting to hit the wall / fit the coffin when cells are old like in the Dolly the sheep and will have multiple deficits.
So if any of the present day leaders including Qaddafi wanting to clone it is too late for the going and must try next birth if he do wish to come back to earth for war games.
We have 50 somatic cell cycles and we spend almost 40 to 42 by the time of one year.
From the rest of it, about 5 are spent by puberty and the last of it is all what we have before we drop dead.
In my estimate none of the present leaders qualify for cloning even if they wish.
They know how, was there only over the past 20 years or so and none of the present leaders are under 20.
This applies to the kith and kin of the present day leaders if the are of eligible age for cloning.

Ymlf-04-Chinese Linux-Not in my favour

This is probably an Ubuntu Linux remastered by Chinese without reading an English Textbook on Linux.

It takes a long time to boot and hangs up after mouse configuration unable to configure graphic and the rest.

I  did not find this problem with version (3) three.

Ctrl + Alt-----> F1 to F8 has been fiddled with and one does not know how to get to bash shell to exit.

It looks they have fiddled too much with Ubuntu (which itself has fiddled with original Linux to some extent and have taken away root function) and I want recommend this to to a newbie.

Let the Chinese fiddle with it and learn the basic of English and Linux for a while.

Chinese language is a Graphic language and they do not understand characters and words as such that we use in English.

They have to learn the character and word language features before putting out an English version.

How the Chinese version fare I have no idea.

It boots to Chinese and to get English one has to press  F2.

At boot time Linux uses F1 to F8 for various instructions and graphic is usually reserved for  Ctrl +Alt ---> F7 (F8)and that is missing in this distribution.

Trying to emulate windows is another mistake.

There are many other distribution and Ubuntu derivatives one can try.

This one is out of my favour.

Dream-03 and its interpretation from Heaven

Well, it is long time since I had a good dream to send to Maha Brahma (assistant in charge) for interpretation.

This time it is down to earth.

Unlike few decades ago it was going for birth day parties and wedding, now the trend is different.

I happen to go for funerals more often than not.

I do not know that the dream has any relationship to the funeral I went last but what I dreamt was of two grave diggers who were twins.
They were employed by the Kandy municipality.

Now that most of the bodies are cremated, they have very little  digging to do and the ash left is only less than 4 Kgs, many of it can be sprayed under the remaining trees round the Kanatta (Mahaiyyawa) but that is also taken away for rituals by the relatives, their income is getting lower by the day.

One day they decided to go and do a different type of digging.

Dig some ancient treasures in the Paduwas Nuwara.

They set foot from Kandy to Kurunegala and stayed in a place for preparation.

One of them went out to get all the necessary items including jasmine flowers, lemon and chicken etc leaving the other to look after the grave digging equipment they treasured very much (even grave digging equipment is not safe nowadays).

When he returned to the resting place he found a guy looked similar to him in his bed and his twin in the other bed.

So when he entered the room all three were looking at each other puzzled as if they (all three) had seen a ghost and there was some commotion and I was woken up before the dream finished.

Maha was bit puzzled that I did not send him an email earlier than this.

What is the problem with you.

I sleep very well because of the industrial action and get up late too and forget most of the dreams by the time i get up.

So when you do academic work you dream a lot?

On the contrary, our politician sleep a lot in between the elections and it is good for them to have a wake up call now and then, now that the honeymoon is over.

Now then how did the dream end?

Actually there were four of them.

They had gone for a medical check up and doctors cloned them in case any one of them (normal guys) come for heart transplant or organ transplant.

The nurses by mistake had given an overdose of hormones and they have rapidly grown up to full size and escaped from the hospital and ended up at the resting place.

SlimPup which is a derivative of Puppy lupu 525 has lot of video and udieo auditing capability including Flv and MP4 and over 40 odd formats.

The list of video file types are over 100 and I never believed that there are so many.

Video editing is such a pain in the neck if you have some video clips that you are unable to see then you better try Puppy Slim and see.

One should have two CD/DVD Roms.

One for booting one for writing.

Puppy takes only 4% of 1 GiB RAM of one's desktop one has all the RAM available for your conversions and work.

On the contrary we are all making this scenario possible on a daily basis.

One a daily basis everyone of us is contributing to felling trees.

The illegal felling of trees is rampant and often big political guns giving cover to the undesirable in the name of development.

In the name of development and road development the government has activated the engine of unsustainable growth.

Are we restoring and renovating tanks in case the rain fails for two seasons.

No.

The will build play grounds as if we have won the right to hold the Commonwealth games.

We have on record that we have converted an ancient tank into a cricket ground.

Additionally we are polluting our rivers and tanks (Renal problem in North and North East).

Can we designate 10 places in this country where water can be drunk straight from the stream?

No.

Can we designate 10 places where water can be taken for mineral water industry without treatment?

No.

Then what about the mineral water bottles?

If one does a secret survey without the knowledge of the company involved, they are just coming from tap water in tinted plastic bottles.

Mineral water is a big industry with minimum capital

that is why I never taste mineral water.

I do not mind foreigners drinking from mineral water bottles since in their blessed countries the pollution is 100 times compared to here.

Every year from Teldeniya onwards the river goes dry part of the year.

But my preposition is related to the effect of two important safety barriers we have with rain.

8. Then we can worship all the pipal trees but rain gods who were residing on tree tops have vanished to Africa to look after African resistant varieties.

10. We will spend all that money from gas and petrel to import bottle water for the politician and astrologers who are playing cricket in their back garden before the cabinet meeting (with few attending)  to refresh themselves with the world affairs.

11.No problem with rights of the people who want water to drink.

They are given either bottle of arrack or bottle of petrel to cash in with drinking water.

12. Government goons are selling the water bottles and take back both arrack and petrel and reinvest on water imported from abroad.

This is not hypothetical but real in time to come even without rain failing.

Linux-Sytem Rescue-Gentoo

This is something one should have for an emergency.

It is Gentoo based.

Little over 300 MiB and has 32 bit and 64 bit versions.

Boots up fast.

has Pdf reader and gparted and partimage.

Even though I use Debian's gParted for my work and partitioning this is one I will use one day in an emergency.

One feature that may be handy is it allows one to configure graphic card. With so many different graphic cards this feature it is a welcome change and it gives you a very eye pleasing graphic face to work with.

Even though I almost hate for Gentoo not including a install script in its Live DVDs and have never tries Gentoo except CD version some years back including KiWi, Gentoo has a great tradition of delivering an eye candy graphic face and multimedia capability which include XBMC.

I have used Sabayon (the dream we believe in), Russian based Calculate linux has some problem with configuring Graphic cards.

For my curiosity only thing I miss is MySql PhP Admin Graphic front

My question is why it is not within the 100 in Distrowatch.

It can be installed and like TEEnPup it has graphic buttons on the right unlike Mac which prevents clutter.
Go and download and bring it above 100 in distrowatch.
In my case like Puppy it is in my top 10 distributions.
Only downside was it took three attempts to download and it broke twice due to poor Telecoms in Sri-lanka.
I hope it leaves a torrent file in Linuxtracker for poor souls in the Third World!
Unlike Puppy it took little more time to boot up an internet had to be configured after booting.
It is like any other CD distribution and unlike others it is compact.
Reason for slow boot up is that it has more packages than many CD distributions.

Only Knoppix can compete with it.

Now it (Legacy) is just below Linpus but with my recommendation and trend Linpus Linux will rise like a rocket.
Legacy should take few hints from Linpus and Knoppix to stay with modern trends.

Linpus Linux Light-1.4

It is nearly two years ago that I used Linpus Linux.
At that time I was not interested in Live CDs.

I had downloaded it when I was abroad and it had a heavy version and a light version.

I did not like the heavy version which was based on Redhat.

But I really like the light version and even though it did not mention that it is an O.E.M. version but it behaved like one and takes over the hard disk and install it in minutes.

It's GRUB was not compatible with other Linux and I gave up because of its high handed take over of the hard disk.

It had all the making of a Mobile Linux but I was waiting for an update but I could never find a new version and totally gave up on it.

Today for curiosity I went to their site and looked for a free download iso and to my surprise and fortuitously I found the Light version 1.4.

It is only 411 MiB.

It is for netbook and is for mobile use.

It has the following.

• Firefox
• Email Client
• IM: MSN, Skype
• Open Office Applications
• Photo Management
• Power Management
• PC Folder
• Social Network

• Multimedia Player
• Network Manager
• Game Collection
• PDF Reader
• Live Update
• RSS Reader
• Sync Mail

They have done a beautiful advertisement and those who did not get Android from Google, this is where one should start.

It is beautiful.
It is light weight.

It is free and one does not have to wait for Google to dish it for you.

It is Chinese with English capability and I am going to support it instead of Google's Android from now onwards.

Without much hype in two years Chinese in Taiwan has done a good job.

I hope you go from strength to strength and give Google a bit of scare!

It might take over and erase your windows though.
They are developing touch and HTDV version too.

After about 4 to 5 attempts i finally downloaded it. Point to point download stream broke for no reason partly a fault at the home site and partly due to our Telecom's failure.
Even though I was frustrated it was worth the wait and it did not take over the hard disk.
It has two options one for installation and one for boot form hard disk.
Download and enjoy but if the download fails try, try ,try again like the proverbial spider who finally climbed up and made a web of connections.

Ten (10) or more reasons why I do not use Cellphones

Now that WHO has released the warning for radiation and cancer PHOBIA, I should state why I hate using cellphone.

Some of what I say below are scientific in nature and nobody has done adequate studies.
This is based on the premise animals have more evolved senses for their protection and navigation especially at night.
For example some snakes (who do not have ears) infrared sensors to to detect their prey namely rats.
Hearing is not essential for some animals and mosquitoes probably have thermal as well as olfactory (smell) sensors to feed us at night.
What it means is that whole energy spectrum is used to various degrees by various beings including insects.
They all originate from sun rays and most of them even do not reach us and reflected in the stratosphere.
Any artificial high intensity laser included have adverse effect on life on earth especially the animal species.

1. There is scientific evidence emerging telecommunication signals effect navigation of bees. Apart from the suspected virus infection, I believe the microwave and Telecom signals are the one that effecting the bees. whole chain of events and food cycle will be effected by this impact. Instead of wasting time on cancers WHO and WFO should investigate this context seriously.
We know the bees are diminishing.
Why?

2. These energy waves and other waves generated also effect birds. Birds who carry seeds around the world also will impact food scenario of other wild animals. Bird population is diminishing and we do not know how these energy sorcues affect eggs when they are hatching. We know that most of the agricultural pesticides concentrate on eggs and their shell and diminish fertility of birds.

3. When birds are diminished, alarming rise of parasite on domesticated animals will rise. For example ticks which infect cattle and dogs.

4. We do not know what other animals wild and domesticated affected by these artificial energy and bizarre propagation. We do not know even how it affects dogs who have powerful hearing senses.

5. It takes generally 20 years to discover facts and by that time (brain tumours) one generation is affected by the ill effect.

Those are scientific speculations but what about day to day effects.

6. I am one who believe talking reduces of working capacity.
I hate when the telephone ring when I am engaged in some intellectual activity. Even the mosquito is enough to disturb my activity. Imagine I am or a meditator deeply engaged in Ana Pana Sati insight meditation and one mosquito is enough to distract the attention.

7. I prefer both my hands free when on holiday and hate somebody send a SMS on the road crossing highway.

8. Cellphone contributes to road traffic accidents.

9. Imaging I am engaged in a group activity or suturing a coronary artery bypass and the cellphone rings.

10. Many use this as a ploy to get out of a important meeting to make decisions. Politicians are good at this and they slip away leaving a mediocre guy to listen to trade union guys.

Cell phone takes the thinking capacity and concentration away and few years from now research will indicate it was the most bizarre invention of ours.

Enjoy it now and very soon there will be legislature controlling use of cellphones.
Remember I said it.

Linux Update-Mageia-Live

Mageia is finally out and is bootable for the first time without a hitch.

It looks bit primitive and at a glance it looked like when PClinux (big daddy days) came into existence.
It looks it is base upward make up distribution and does not look like the Mandriva or Mandrake look which is good.
The graphic and font are squarish it needs smoothing out.
There were many seeders and leechers and hope they remain active for others to downlod and give feedback.
I am not sure whether they have added Sinhala capability for me to recommend it for Sri-Lankans.
Dropbox, K-torrent, K3B and gParted are missing for it to be useful as a Live CD and for me to introduce it to a newbie
Hope it may Mandrake few Mandrake converts.
It is good for Mandriva too and without dithering they should pull their act together and attract new base.
Unfortunately I am not ready for neither.
Hope they read my blog and count the number of essential utilities that should be there in a standard distribution.
I will download the DVD some time later and give some more.
They have long way to go with dedication and interest they can acheilve great heights.
Good luck to guys and girls at Megeia.
My only advice is that they must forget they are a fork from Mandriva and should think like Unity of Ubuntu and go forward.
Forgive and forget is the way forward and that is lateral thinking in action.

Linux Update-SuperOS-11.04

SuperOs has updated its distribution to Ubuntu 11.04 and the Unity desktop is very attractive.
It has LibreOffice and many updates.
It still keeps its colour combination which is little bit different from Ubuntu.
It is only 1 GiB and is in my middle weight category and has both 32 bits and 64 bits versions.
However, there is no Sinhala Capability or install.

Rats and Rat Chase

If I don't say something about rats having hated cats for their killing spree, the spirit of this blog site is not complete.

Before that I must talk about the squirrels.

They are very intelligent and watchful (scientific in many ways) and social animals.

They are the first to alert of any danger and Pol Kittcha is the other guy.
They work in tandem when cats and snakes are around.

I have looked after many orphaned squirrels as a kid and gave it up after two major incidents.
1. The cat (killing one of my favorite squirrels)
2. When they are uprooted from their environment they become dependent and vulnerable to infections and one day I found in it's nest thousands of tiny flea like creatures to which I did not have any remedy.
With advancing age I realized that they deserve to go back and since then every squirrel or animals saved were nursed back to nature.

If you do not have cats at home one can get them (squirrels) to feed from your hand like pigeon and they love cheese like any cat.

Furthermore, do not have bird table if you have cats at home.

We have decimated our house sparrows and I am still wondering why they disappeared in little over 20 years.

We cannot improve nature but we can make "live and let live" a simple principle.

Never ever try to improve nature knowing man is the biggest polluter and destructer of all living beings including man himself.

There is a house nearby where there is a bird table and I have often seen when house is empty the cats from the neighborhood ( including the cats of the same house catch birds).

They are not Buddhist but I often wonder this is one way to feed the hungry cats when they are away?

I never talk to them at the same breath as here but warn them and report them I have seen cats catching the birds and don't leave food when they are away on the bird table.

This is where I want to write about wastage of food (the have's) in a lighter vein but perhaps not except stating that my house is a classic example (I have been trying to make them understand for ages).

Now that coconut is fifty and tea is double the price and sugar and milk are up I make sure one article is in short supply always (I wish all of them to get the message in full).

Slowly but surely I am getting the message across through necessity.

Before I forget India loses 40% of its grain to rats every year.

It is far better for them to not to send their children to America for further study and corrupt them but get them to do some ongoing research to minimize this and invest some I.P.L money to have this trend arrested and bring food prices down for the down trodden people who do not watch cricket.

They have done wonders for us and our team now even cannot make even 100 in text cricket.

Please kill our cricket in full then we won't have corrupt politicians pulling strings behind the scene.

I wish English to white wash them in this series and (even without that we are going down precipitously) nobody can arrest the corrupt practices of politicians and their stooges at all levels which has ruined our cricket.

I was one of those who believed only way to arrest these corrupt practices (certainly not ICC is made corrupt by IPL already) for us to lose and lose and then only few who love the game will play (like England County Cricket- Good example is Thescovisk of England) and without much crowd watching except the friends who join at the pup/bar after the game.

In that case we can also go and watch cricket without a ticket like good old days with plenty of beer from saved (to purchase the ticket) money.

I am in the minority but sports should be for fun (not to destroy one physically) and not to make one fabulously rich and lose touch with common sense.

I am way off the title but that was done deliberately ( I am not going to write on cricket any more than what I stated above and I have totally lost interest due to how it has become so corrupt) since what I am going to say from now onwards is not very appealing for healthy being.

There are people on this earth who eat bats, squirrels and rats too.
There are rats bigger than some cats in India and some cats fear them.
We have of course big political rats of all shades.

I must mention here if anybody find a remedy for rat population he will get the next Nobel prize.

I have seen rats in London Underground and now I believe they have made connections with rats from France who do not speak English through the channel tunnel.

This was a big achievement of Mrs.Thathcr and the idea was to get the message across through underground rats who will tell the French that English originated from French.

Very clever political deal.

I am one who believes that rats fly through Trans Atlantic Airways to America from France and have made some good connection with American diplomatic rats without WiKiLeak tapes.

If not passenger flights, they are flying to America on cargo planes without having to get Visa from America or tickets for the flight.

They will have their head quarters near those hotels where IMF bosses play Pick a Boo.

I am told that the next IMF boss's, one of the first priority jobs is to meet the rats alliance to discuss food storage in USA.

There is a grand wold alliance of rats and they have a party every time the new candidate for Republican party is declared.

They (rats) now know that American are the best food wasters of the world

I will list them and finish with how I used squirrels to complete with the rats.

1. I had to dissect rats with bare hands in school (please do not take this as a rag. Now present undergraduate needs spoon feeding about leadership roles, which they will never get with the present constitution which is amended for third round of elections).

2. It was uphill task to find one from the Municipality (there were rat catchers employed and some of them are now candidate for local elections after retiring fro their of posts and many of them are in the ruling party.

3. I once killed a rat in my rage for damaging a plastic top of tin of baby milk powder imported during 1989 dark days.

4. His companion I could not kill but escaped. I never so that rat who was terrified.

5. I was angry I missed the other one.

6. Then when the anger subsided, I asked myself why have you done that.

7. Plastic Micky Mouse Picture hanging on the wall told me a different story.

8. What is the different from a squirrel. They almost look the same except the ugly long tail.

9. There should be a method to control not to kill.

10. Make the house rat friendly or is it not friendly.

Now I am a Mickey Mouse convert and my daughter was less than six months then and am I able to tell her that I kill a rat because of a tin of milk with plastic top?

Shall I bring my children animal friendly?

Not due to religion but simple logic tells me that I have no right to kill or destroy any life.

Will I make them vegetarian?

In ten minute of contemplation, I was a different person.

The next stage was to use my observation habits.
I looked for all the dwelling places of rat.

My rat research started, then and there.
It is based on rat friendly theme.

1. Baby Food were stored in either fridge or in steel cupboard.

2. Rat poison was banned from the house on the pretext of lest the children be poisoned.

3. No rat traps

4. Store less food

5. Clean regularly and meticulously

6. Do not leave food out in the open, be that it may be, bin, table or kitchen.

7. Cats were prohibited but one landed on a rainy day.

8. There were lot of opposition but I was the master of ceremony in charge.

9. After many months of perseverance and observation I finally realized that rats never have their nests where squirrels were nesting. There was healthy competition and squirrel made sure that rats are chased especially when young are nursed.

10. Rats make nest in total darkness, whereas squirrels need lot of day light.

Final conclusion no food no rats and if you have food put them in tight plastic or steel compartments.

90% of our problem was solved.

Never ever keep your house /rooms not occupied a single day.
Every time you are out they know you are out they have a party late at night, like after the declaration of candidacy for next American Presidency.

There is a misconception that cats can see in total darkness and catch rats. The reason that rats prefer nocturnal activity is due to the fact cats cannot see in total darkness. Cats have dark adaptation and ability to reflect light (photons) that had not impinged upon rods.
Similar reflecting mechanism is used in roads to reflect light and that is why they are called cat's eyes.

In addition cats have long whiskers to guide them in dim light or total darkness.

So not feeding cats at night expecting them to catch rats is a total misconception.

However, Ceylon Civet (now Famous Kala Waddas) is better at hunting rats at dim light than cats.

So it is better to have a Kala Wadda instead of cat at home but they are very secretive animals and avoid humans at all cost!


In Sri-Lanka rats come for a party only on President's House where food is thrown at lib.

In our houses food is becoming scarce and most of our rats are hitchhiking to America. They do not prefer to go to India because of IPL.

The best way (Sri-Lankan way) to control rats is for us to eat less bread and rice.

We are on that pathway now.

India can follow us without feeding their rats with stored grain.

Or else they should eat them without sending them across the Palk Straight for our consumption and make poor Indian strong enough to play IPL cricket (not test cricket).

Kandy the so called Heritage

Somebody recently poisoned the monkeys in Kandy City.

Just to illustrate the fact that there were more monkeys in this city I have reproduced it.

Monkeys in business suits now have taken over the city.

Years gone by
Five centuries to the count
Where the present lake stands
Were the paddy fields that stretched
To the far corners of the valley
Forming the rice basin of the hill country


The commoner garden
Name for the city was Bogambara
Which literally meant
The valley with plenty (of water and produce)
Of bo (plenty), gam (village) bara (belonging)
Was a place of homage to the Dhamma Raja
The Buddha


Then there were more monkeys
Than human beings dwelling in the mountains
That stretched from Knuckles to Hantana range
And the monkeys could reign
The tree tops
Without ever climbing down


Though the palace was built
More than five centuries ago
The lake that is rudiment
Of its former majesty
But thrice as big as it today
Was built by the last King of Senkadagala,
