My Learning Curve of Debian 6 to Current 9.9.0

My Learning Curve of Debian 6 to Current 9.9.0

Debian 13 is coming soon.

My Learning Curve of Debian 6 to Current 9.9.0 was not smooth but with lot of hiccoughs but it was worth all the same.

I am writing this while waiting for Debian to be installed on a laptop.
I erased the Windows for good (laptop) but it did not allow me to mount a Linux distributions.

The current UEFI of Microsoft was created to ban dual booting.

Sinister and a sadistic ploy and the ESP boot partition is filled with a batch of Microsoft Secretive BIG Virus Package (figure of 8 virus)..

Even Debian could not bypass this strategic ploy.

But I found a way.

It is Open Solaris in TrueOS that ruthlessly eliminated the ESP partition from ROOT to the RUMP of the partition table and let me use TrueOS. (TrueOS is defunct now)

It created TrueOS version of ESP partition to boot.

The TrueOS is for developers' item and I found a way to delete its TANK partition and install Debian. Since TANK partition cannot be resized, I had to devise my own solution without coexisting with the TrueOS.

Coming back to my difficult experience with Debian in my early days, I migrated to Mandriva, to Redhat to Open Solaris and finally settled down with TestStar’s PCLinux (Fullmonty) for my work.

These were 32 bit power hungry old computers with low RAM.

Come 64 bits I changed to Peppermint (coming from UK is useless) and Debian.

I erased all my paid Window’s versions for good.

I now use Debian exclusively without any problem.

Even managed to make a USB stick for installation on a laptop.

When I have time I play with Elementary OS, PinguyOS, Peppermint OS, Elive, Emmabantus and a few more.

Since I now use Debian only I feel I should voluntarily retire from taking about other distributions from now onward.

Sorry guys and girls (developers) other than Debian.
Keep up the good work.
Thank YOU.

My Grouse with Microsoft Windows

Even though, I do not use Window at all, the catalyst for my migration to Linux was none other than Microsoft Monopoly.

1. I was new to Linux.

2. I made a leaflet for presentation for university non academic staff.

3. I found a bright guy who was in the minor staff.

4. I trained him for hardware stuff.

The guy who occupied the official technical slot was an idiot.

5. Slide Numbers allowed for my presentation was deliberately limited.

6. A formal certificate was awarded.

7. This was long time ago.

8. One of the non technical (clerical and she was assigned to me) girl was allowed to attend on the request made by the chief technician.
This guy is diseased.
I could not refuse.

9. She went to Canada within a month.
She did not tell me that she was leaving.
My grouse was she took the place which somebody else deserved.
She only typed a single letter (by this time I was doing my stuff myself, including my Thesis), for me in nearly five months.

10. I called her and said, she cannot put me as a referee for her work in Canada.
I would give bad reference, in fact the real reference.

After this incident nobody asked any reference from me.

Outside the University, I identified three and guided them in Linux.

Two (asked them not to come back) went abroad on their own accord and the third guy Indika, now holds an executive post in MobiTel.

That is a long preamble.

Coming to Microsoft, at about the same time, I met a young (tiny) guy in Kandy who was running a computer outlet in his home coveted to sales outlet.
He used to go to Singapore and bring stuff which I used to buy at exorbitant price. None of them (Window based) are in working order now.
I vandalized them for hardware parts.

1. He organized an exhibition in Kandy for schools so that he can dish out all shoddy Microsoft stuff.

2. He gave me an invitation.

3. He did not know, I was an Amateur Linux Guy.
I asked him to reserve a stall for me with 3 computers.
He said OK.

4. I went there on the opening day with a friend of mine.
Invited a few others none came.
There not coming save me a huge embarrassment.
We could not get in until all the students were allowed.

Thinking that I have stall inside, I did not bother.

5. We went in and there was no stall for me and the guy was hiding, unable to face me.

6. This was hosted in Queen's Hotel ballroom.
This is were we had the last Medical Dance.
So I went with my friend for a beer (I never take the stuff in the morning only after working hours well past 4.30PM).

7. Then we saw a few, may be six, school children ordering beer.
We chased them away.
They were bribed by this guy.

We got to know Rs.500,000/= was dished out by Microsoft to hold the exhibition.

8. Immediately, I posted a Web  Piece exposing this sordid affair.

9. I became a full time Linux Guy on that day.

10. The booklet revised became my first book on Linux on Amazon Books.
It is available for purchase but there are more than five more books on Linux by me, there.

My next book "Linux Essentials" is ready for publication.

This piece is a pre-publication advertisement.

I think I would insinuate this piece in that book.

My First Computer to Intel's NUC

My basic  NUC with WiFi and Bluetooth is cute.

My first computer was huge, heavy and was a  beast (a behemoth).

I cannot lift it BUT it's RAM is only 4MB.

It boots up with only a Floppy Drive and I cannot believe all my research work was done on it.

This may be the first research work done on a computer (earlier it was done on paper and a typewriter) in my Faculty.
The University did not have a computer.
I did the some pioneering work on the network of computers  (only 5 computers) having RAM of 16MB, computers discarded from America).

By the way network does not need lot of memory and the server did provide the workload.

For my research work I used Windows 95 and Office.

The office with bad macros could not get my paper output for publication of the research thesis and the full print out (I bought a dot mat printer and later Cannon Large printer and still later a digital scanner from my pocket saving from UK).
University had none.

They all are in working order except the dot max printer (which I threw, to the junk yard) and they are filling my bedroom.

This piece is about my entry into Linux distributions.

Since my paper out put of
Microsoft Office was bad was bad I used Sun Solaris OpenOffice 1 for my research work. It removed all the Microsoft Macros and I got the paper layout of my research thesis in A4 papers amounting to about 180 pages.

Then I did some research and found Debian, Suse, Mandriva, XandrOS and Redhat Boot CDs and booted them on a 10 GB hard disk.

That is my Linux beginning without a GURU but with lot of books.
I still have those Boot CDS but the computer is dead.

Multiple distributions in one PC with only 4MB Video RAM and 128RAM.

I never looked back on Microsoft  again after my research work was accepted by the University.

Original hard disk was only 2GB.

I revived the computer and stuck a 80 GB hard disk and I would try to install Debian on it today (only one CD) and others need at least 3 CDs for installation.

Windows had about 40 odd floppies.

Migration from HDD (Parallel) to  serial SATA was a long journey and I love the NUC with 8GB RAM and 320 SATA inside and another 320GB on an external case.

In my NUC, I have Mint (Ubuntu replacement), Debian, Emmabantus and Ubuntu installed and they are running smoothly on 18 Watts out put and without noise.

Currently it has 4 instances of Debian ONLY.
Endless OS is on my OLD ACER Laptop.

What a turn around in my life with Linux
.

Beauty of Linux is Linux run on any old hardware and new hardware, too.

I tend to do this just before Christmas BUT I did it by 3rd of October, 2023.

I have three month holiday from Linux.

Why I hate Microsoft and Bill Gate

Windows is a shoddy operating system and resource hungry where my first computer with 2 MB RAM could not handle Win 95 but I used Debian 6 with over 6CDs could do a better job then.
Later I migrated to Redhat since there were many books written from Redhat 7 onward.

Then of course,
Caldera, Debian and Mandriva and still later Knoppix took me to New Heights in Linux.

About Mr. Bill Gate I have nothing personal to say and his divorce probably is good for both.

Hanging onto a breaking relationship is nerve racking to any human being.

I hope both do some productive work on their own volition.

My grouse with him is his ploy with manufacturers to insinuate
OEM hardware with  BOGUS UEFI-MEFI (it was named Unified Framework but I used M for Microsoft here for his personal use) or framework interface was an atrocious business plan to stifle Linux users.

I do not have to take permission from Bill Gate to use open source Linux in my laptop initially installed with Microsoft Windows.

It does not let me use legacy BIOS and still have a UEFI script hidden in the memory or within the hardware architecture of the OEM portion.

Simple method to overcome this ploy is to stick a SD of at least 32 GB and install the boot loader there.

UEFI won't let you use legacy GRUB to boot multiple Linux distributions.

I have now tried Linux ESP partition to bypass UEFI blocking mechanism.

If OEM guys says no boot medium even after having installed a Linux.distribution, this is what you have to do.

1. Download BSD TRUE OS DVD, Debian DVD 1 and Genome Partition (GPT) iso CD.

2.
Install TRUE OS and it virtually takes over the Disk Drive of your laptop.

3. Unfortunately it does not let you boot any other distribution.

4. Boot GPT partition disk.
Delete the tank partition of BSD leaving only the ESP partition which the TRUE OS had created.

Then.partition the disk.with Ex4 or Btrfs partitions.

5. Mount Debian DVD and install.

You.have the option of using the unused part of the hard disk but remember to.mount ESP partition (but do not format the  ESP lest partition.details are erased).

There is a very simple solution, if the Microsoft Media is not bootable.

1. Buy a mounted SATA disk and attach it to the Laptop.
One terabyte is cheap now.
I sometime go.to.Singapore and do my usual shopping and see offers for about a week and by all.the stuff one third the price in Ceylon.
Now Coronavirus has put a stop to it.

Coming back to the external SATA disk one partitions it, they way one likes it.

Ultimately install a Linux distribution to boot from.while attached to the laptop.

The GRUB boot loader will detect the distributions unbootable from the laptop and boot them via the external disk.

One can use a SD card or USB but installing  a distribution in a tightly packed USB is slow and may break down in the middle  of the installation.

That problem one does not encounter with a one terabyte external disk.

I have used my innovative methods to erase OEM blocking ploy with BSD and then to install Debian thereafter.

Unfortunately even Ubuntu gives up and succumb to UEFI ploy and it destroyed my booting options.

Only BSD does erase everything and install ESP partition.

Not even Debian can handle it.

Lyx, LaTeX, Neovim and Notepaqq

These are all CODE Crunches in Linux.
PYTHON and Visual Studio are not the ONLY computer languages.
VIM, RUBY and PHP I used as a training exercise 25 years or so ago.
R I never tried is for statistics.
I used SPSS in the past.
I even tried DATA base languages but all forgotten due to lack of use. Once I got a hang ( I was OK with Physics and Mathematics), of something I did not stagnate but move to something else.
That is how I got to Linux.
It has gone above in PC market.
I want it to be 10% before, I kick the bucket. I thing it is enevitable.
Thanks to all the contributors Young and Old.

I am now into Phosh and Lomiri the cellphone applications in Debian Linux.
I haven't got data in my cellphone to test drive them. ZIM Card is from CEYLON and Australian ZIM cards are very expensive and I gave up after 6 weeks.

I am going to do some work on Blender not on KODI or Kdenlive.
No interest in politics or gossip.

Both Fedora and SuSe are Cheating the Newbies

Both Fedora and SuSe do not have a stable Community Base as was 20 years ago.
Fedora Live and SuSe Leap are Ages behind Debian and ARCH Linux Derivatives like Reborn, Endeavor, CachyOS and Manjaro.

By the way, MX Linux is a good distribution and AntiX has gone into hibernation.

Their stable Isos like 16 in SuSe and Redhat 10 are not available for free downloads to test.
Those that are released are untested images with a label STABLE to deceive the Newbies.
They do not provide torrents and if they have a torrent file no seeders at all.
I always prefer a iso image of an unknown Linux or untested Linux Distribution. I use Transmission and I test the image before writinh to a USB.
So please do not get driven by the market-hype but use common sense.
Companies have overheads and they are only worried about profit margin.
That is the bottom line.

SuSe leap 42.3 I cannot mount on Virtual Box Utility with 8GB RAM.
My Linux UPDATES and Testing Time are winding down for Christmas for 6 weeks.
Happy holidays for all.

Selecting a Desktop, is it a Big ASK?

Selecting a Desktop, is it a Big ASK?

I am not talking about Compiz, Wayland and Tiling Window Managers. They are not at all my interests.

Yes selecting is a desktop may be a big ask, due to many reasons.

Desktop is a Desktop and there is nothing more in it.

It has no applications and can be compared to a dress one wears. A dress one can wear as one pleases but Desktop is Fixed one cannot change but its front end appearance.

There is a caveat here, each desktop by default has a bundle of applications that goes with it except one big application, LibreOffice which everybody try to bundle.

I prefer desktops that does not bundle LibreOffice.

REBORN OS

On that specification, I really like REBORN OS and its Gnome Desktop.

It is minimal and out of 18.5GB /root partition it leaves me 10GB to add any application I need and 4 in particular.

VLC does to take much space but number of plug in are staggering

Audacity has almost every audio format.

GIMP is fantastic for photo editing.

Blender and blender takes the most space up to 1GB in total.

LibreOffice is a low priority for me since I use AbiWord for my book writing for ages, in fact from Microsoft Windows era.

Let me finish with Reborn OS, I installed all of the above and a few more and like Kdenlive and KODI and I have 2.5GB left of my root partition. This is because i have also used big /var and /opt partitions.

Desktops

I have been using Gnome of Debian for ages and I have had no problems at all and i stick with it.

Out of the lot below i only like Cutefish.

I have Plasma Desktop for comparison but rarely use it. The simple reason it takes a lot of time booting.

I want the start up brisk with line of text telling me what is going on behind before booting. Only Debian Gnome does it.

Gnome distribution is out and it has no Synaptic package manager.

The most beautiful KDE Desktop belongs to ARCH based BlueStar Linux and I have it installed in my NUC.

KDE desktop guys are still struggling and it is still RAW package stage and one cannot install it.

I found a ARCH based KDE desktop which was sleek like Trinity Desktop but it ruined by hard disk including EFI partition.

It is called KaOS.

Please do not use it.

1. Plasma desktop consumed about 500MB.

2. Cutefish which I really like consumed 300MB

3. Cosmic desktop about 500MB

4. KODI about 100 to 200MB

5. Kdenlive may be 500MB or more on top of Dolphin.

6. Cinnamon only about 50MB since it is built on top of Gnome

I did not try Budgie and MATE

7. DeepIn from China was a pain.

8.  Anduino which is Microsoft emulation of course from China and I hate the most.

Installing KaOS

I was lookin for KDE distribution other than ARCH based and without bloat and found KaOS.
It is again ARCH based with Octopi.
I love Octapi.
I had few hicoughs again with EFI partition.
I hope it won't ERASE it and boot without a problem.
It is clean and minimal with a Right Panel architecture opposite of UBUNTU.
Installation is brisk.
I had two Reborn instances after erasing Gnoppix with lot of annoyance.
Installation failed as expected since it did not recognize EFI.
I know how to revive it.
It is a top secret.

Second War British Flying Officer and Rebirth

Second War British Flying Officer and Rebirth

This piece in development and related to Rebirth Relationship in my own life.

No recollection except there Deja Vu and an attempt at reconstruction of live events in this life over 65 years and little more.

It is a guesstimate.

My strong Love for Elephants and Space Crafts is a direct result of my previous life's flying expeditions mostly reconnaissance.

I was almost a flying doctor in New Zealand.

I wanted to become a pilot but my Kamma and stroke of luck prevent it.  I would have been killed in a sortie of the purported Eastern Region.

I was killed most likely in South Island of New Zealand.

I was killed not during War but four years later on a routine mission due to bad weather and fuel shortage.

I probably ditched near Reefton.

1. I have had Deja Vu in only three places.
Birth Place of William Shakespeare Stratford upon Avon.
I hated writing of William Shakespeare and actually never completely read any of his books, in all my life.

I am a scientific man not a fictional guy.

2. Kande Vihara cum Hindu Temple in Wauda, Galagedara.
Why I strongly dislike Meditation Practice and my book of Business Enterprise of Meditation is the end result.
I was made to meditate in this Hindu Kovils by an Indian Pusari.
My strong dislike of Indians was the end result in this life.
I went there for solace of destroying so many living quarters of probably Maori or Aboriginal ancestry.

However, I did like the sweets dishes out in this temple as a kid.

My first Deja Vu occurred near this temple.

It was only a flash and which I cannot remember it but willfully suppressed it. It was somewhat related to my journey to New Zealand.
I am not sure why I hate New Zealand so much.
None of the New Zealanders were nasty to me except for that Dr. Diaran who was a South African Indian.
I hated him but revived him after massive heat attack.
I do not know whether he is still alive.
I did not see him after that episode.
He was air lifted to Australia after resuscitation.

My strong Love for Australians and Australian cricket and urge to Migrate and work in Northern Territory was a failure. Three years in New Zealand and then to Australia but I cut short of New Zealand stay in two years to look for a job in the University of Peradeniya.

I was involved in Modernizing Neonate Units in United Kingdom. Never worked in a old or derelict hospital except the Elective in Blackburn Hospital. For some reason or other I hated Soccer but loved Rugger.

I detested Killing of Elephants as a sport by British officers stationed in Ceylon.
I hate parading of elephants in Perahara or so called  Tamil cum Buddhist Street processions.
My books on elephants is the result in this life.

3. Reefton in Greymouth in New Zealand.
My last station was Greymoth in New Zealand.
I met several of my past (rebirth) mates there.
Almost all of them were them were helpful except one or two which was natural in human behavior.

I used to go to Reefton to pick ladybirds. There were no ladybirds in Greymouth probably due to heavy spray of insecticides..

Ceylon History Belongs to 4 Buddhas of 20,000 Years

Ceylon History Belongs to 4 Buddhas of 20,000 Years

Yes, Ceylon History Belongs to 4 Buddhas of 20,000 Years and the fifth is to be born in the future.

Yet, the British wanted hide this truth.

Rest of the history is prehistory and we have the evidence dating back to 30,000 which belongs to Balangoda man.

Not a few but thousands of them.

Lemuria from Wikipedia

 Lemuria from Wikipedia

Lemuria , or Limuria, was a continent proposed in 1864 by zoologist Philip Sclater, theorized to have sunk beneath the Indian Ocean, later appropriated by occultists in supposed accounts of human origins.

The theory was discredited with the discovery of plate tectonics and continental drift in the 20th century.

The hypothesis was proposed as an explanation for the presence of lemur fossils on Madagascar and the Indian subcontinent but not in continental Africa or the Middle East.

Biologist Ernst Haeckel's suggestion in 1870 that Lemuria could be the ancestral home of humans caused the hypothesis to move beyond the scope of geology and zoogeography, ensuring its popularity outside of the framework of the scientific community.

Occultist and founder of theosophy Helena Blavatsky, during the latter part of the 19th century, placed Lemuria in the system of her mystical religious doctrine, claiming that this continent was the homeland of the human ancestors, whom she called Lemurians.

The writings of Blavatsky had a significant impact on Western esotericism, popularizing the myth of Lemuria and its mystical inhabitants.

Theories about Lemuria became untenable when, in the 1960s, the scientific community accepted Alfred Wegener's theory of continental drift, presented in 1912, but the idea lived on in the popular imagination, especially in relation to the Theosophist tradition.

?Scientific Origins

Lemuria was hypothesized as a land bridge, now sunken, which would account for certain discontinuities in biogeography.
This idea has been rendered obsolete by modern theories of plate tectonics. Sunken continents such as Zealandia in the Pacific, and Mauritia and the Kerguelen Plateau in the Indian Ocean do exist, but no geological formation under the Indian or Pacific oceans is known that could have served as a land bridge between these continents.

Additionally, in Christian and Muslim records they were considered gods who came from the sky.

Let me put my own Alien saga here.

I believe in aliens, they have been visiting the planet earth, for millions of years according to Linda Moulton  Howe.

Linda Moulton Howe is an American investigative journalist, author, and documentary producer known for her extensive work on UFOs, animal mutilation phenomena, and alleged alien abductions.
She has published four books investigating these topics, including An Alien Harvest, which links animal mutilations to extraterrestrial activity, and Glimpses of Other Realities, which compiles testimonies about non-human interactions with Earth.
Howe also produces the Earthfiles website and podcast, focusing on unexplained mysteries and human-alien interaction.

Animal Mutilation
Howe's research into unexplained animal deaths has led her to believe they are caused by aliens, as documented in her book An Alien Harvest.

Crop Circles
She has investigated and documented the complex crop formation phenomenon in England, the U.S., and Canada.
Alien Abductions and Government Cover-ups:
Her work includes exploring testimonies of human abduction and speculating that the U.S. government may be involved with alien beings in a cover-up.
Documentary Production:
Howe has produced documentaries and is known for the Earthfiles website, where she shares findings and interviews individuals with evidence and experience related to these phenomena.
Awards and Recognition:
She was honored with the Lucius Farish Foundation Award for her contributions to UFO research and productions in 2013.

The British Destroyed Our TRUE History

The British Destroyed Our TRUE History

බ්‍රිතාණුවන් අපේ වෙසගිරි ලෙන් සමුහය විනාශ කළහ

Weissa (ව්‍යෂාව)  is prostitute in current Sinhala.
There is a sinister attempt to posit Kuveni as a prostitute by Indian scholars and Sri-Lankan guys who bum suck Indian opinion without objective scrutiny.

Vijaya and his Clan were the Gang Rapists who were expelled from India.

RAVANA Clan fought valiantly with the invaders.
Unfortunately, for RAVANA clan other tribes helped the invaders due to internecine conflicts, quite similar to Tamil, Muslim, Burgher and Sinhala clans of today.

This country is where the RAVANA king Wesamuni reigned.

His kingdom was built around 7800 years ago.

They consisted of a massive complex of stone caves.

This was situated near Anuradhapura.

These ancient constructions were painted on or attributed to Vijaya and Mahinda clan which came 5000 years later. They did not built anything significant but quickly substituted their credence on top RAVANA heritage.
British perpetuated this concocted history for over 150 years.
That is the crime of the British.
The British copied the Stone Edits and took them to England. Of course, on the instruction of kings and queens of England, the kingdom in Wesagiri was demolished.
Indians who fear RAVANA mortally helped the British to propagate the new myth.

All the books were published in India and I tend not to believe any Indian publication, long before, I got interested in RAVANA SAGA.

There were nearly 100 stone caves in Wesagiri.
Except a few most were destroyed by the British.

British were interested in building roads.

These guys were Surveyors and not Archaeologists.

All the Stone Edits and statues including Buddha statues were destroyed and were used in the construction of the road.

Tamil labour brought in from the North by British were used to smash these archaeological sites.
Ultimately, the land was given to these Tamils who demolished the ancient relics..

There were over 1000 Stone edits and British only translated about 150.

They are still not available for our perusal.

Wanton destruction by the British.

British were good at distorting the history that preceded their invasion which was RAVANA and the subsequent history of Ceylon.

It is well known saying that, "History is written by the victors and the history of the vanquished was erased"

Our Prehistory was buried in the sand.

Raj Soma Deva who is L.T.T.E. inspired guy is creating an artificial RAVANA story.
His book released is inundated with gross inaccuracies. Jayarathne Pathiraarachchi is exposing them little by little and Soma is already wetting his pants.

Don Carolis Mecelius Wickramasinghe, a Ceylonese student who was studying in England at that time, reported this wanton destruction to British authorities.

He was an ardent Catholic and to soften his heart, as to report to the British authorities,, one can guess the scale of destruction by the British Surveyors.

Ultimately, this destruction was halted in 1898.
British had nearly 70 years for their destruction ploy.
It is a generation of destruction and it is almost half of their occupation in Ceylon.

History written by British should be thrown out of our libraries and TRUE history should be rewritten.

I admire Jayarathne Pathiraarchchi and his efforts should be supplemented.

Unfortunately, guys who are opposing this effort is our own corrupt monks.

With ASAPUWA and MAHAMEVNA losing their grip, the political influence of these monks are fast disappearing.

Down with these corrupt monks.

Tea is not Native to CEYLON and its destruction is Rightful and Enevitable

I am not an eco-man but has become one.

Yes, tea is not a native plant.

It was native to China.

British planters stole it from China and gradually brought tea through India to CEYLON to destroy our biodiversity.

Recent catastrophe and untold destruction and landslides are direct result of Tea Industry.
Tea is a labour intensive.
The tea puckers are paid poor from the time of the British.
Please revisit the BBC panorama presentation on British Tea Industry.
Also revisit the book by Ranil Senanayake.
He is a nephew of Dudley Senanayake and a planter who had done a thesis on how we should reorganize our ecosystem.
Nobody including UNP listened to him and he has gone to oblivion.

I am bit different to Ranil Senanayake but follow Panadura "Koss Mama" or Koss Ata Mama" or Arthur Vincent Dias (pronounced as Ddies), having seen Mahinda Rajapkasa's goons felling 11 jack fruit trees around my neighborhood within an year of him gaining power.

Jack fruit tree is called Artocarpus hererophilus and there is a single jack fruit tree in the Peradeniya Botanical Garden which is a walking distance from our house in Panideniya.

I still do not know what destruction befell our neighborhood recently.

There was a single breadfruit tree in front of our house and that was taken down by our neighbour to expand the makeshift parking place for his cars.
He is a car vendor.
He buys rackety dilapidated cars from a weekly auction in Kandy and do some temporary work and painting on them and resell them.
I hated the black soot and the painting which affected us daily.

There was surface well from which I used to fetch water for my 22 odd fish tanks.

Thankfully, by that time all the fish tanks were dispensed with except for the two big water tanks for Guppy fish and water lillies.

I am pretty sure this portion slipped away during the recent catastrophe. In fact, I wanted to buy this portion and actually requested it from the owner without quoting a price but she never asked me.
Yes, it was close call and I am not there to witness it.
I believe, the access road may have slipped away and no vehicle can pass through, until fully repaired. I do not think the guys have enough money (may be they are already in debt) in the bank to do repairs and they invariably would ask money from me, too.

The current government would not pay any compensation saying that this portion is a private land.

However, Ranil Wickramsinghe got permission from the owners to lay "concrete on" a  portion of the access road and it was in bad state, when I left Ceylon.

I should end this with bread fruit tree.
Its botanical name is Artocarpus artilis.

Eight (8) thousand years ago our prehistoric ancestors, not from India were known to have had a wild bread fruit tree that had gone into extinction.
The current bread fruit tree is imported variety from Oceania.

The breadfruit roots grow from the stem (suckers) and spread out and they run shallow.

The worse tree to grow is the Bo Tree or the pipal tree which drains water and kill all other trees around it.
Only Na Tree can survive near a pipal tree.
They often coexist.

The botanical name for the "Na" tree, is Mesua ferrea, also known by its synonym Mesua nagassarium, and is commonly called Ceylon Ironwood or Cobra's Saffron.

Pipal or Bodhi trees or Bo trees

Every year when I clean (risky job) the gutters of our roof and I find one or two Bo or pipal trees growing there.
They are called "Kaputu Bo".
I uproot them and plant them in a suitable large pot.
Currently, I have several in the rooftop garden.

They are my weather indicators.

I pick the dry leaves that fall from the pipal trees in the rooftop garden and put them in a plastic box with silica.

This year of
Yahapalanaya, I had none of Kaputu Bo. This season even the crows were hungry without pipal seeds.

I went and looked at near "Nagara Sabha Kunu Bakkies" or refuse dumps  where the crows come for roosting and did not find any pipal saplings.

There were a few in between cement structures. How the pipal seeds germinate in unfathomable places is a mystery. All of the young plants (Ksoutu Bo)  were at least one year old.

The inclement weather had nasty effect on birds including crows. Their purge or dropping did not have any pipal seeds to germinate, I believe.

Deities and Prayers

They say prayers are very well heard but never acted upon by the deities.
The simple fact is, those deities are impotent never omnipotent as it is believed.

Come to plant life,
they are multi-potent, only if you care them with respect and living space.
Long before I became a plant watcher to predict the inclement weather, I looked at the sky (cloud watching was a pastime of mine) and saw the clouds turning in opposite direction (this is what our yesteryear farmers did) and I did a quick overall of my rooftop garden expecting a rainy spell. We have too monsoons one heavy but the other relative dry.I never believed in our meteorology department.
I had a very young relative in the meteorology department and she feeds me with the inside information. The indicator placed inside the University was never read. They fear coming in due to nasty past experiences when they did come.
Guys used to urinate on them.

What a top education?

Five plants (mostly not local) succumbed during the dry spell.
One coffee plant,
One cocoa plant (again foreign species thanks to British),
Two Karapincha (Thailand) with full of aroma and
One white sandalwood plant
perished.

I always buy two specimens expecting this scenario. If both specimens die, I won't buy them again. One other reason is that the plant vendors in Ceylon in public auction, only sell the dormant or diseased plants (heavily spayed with chemicals, to last the sale period).

Beware!

These plants are for the shade of my water plants.
Even finch would build nests, if I do not (masterly inactivity on my part, let the weather takes its toll) visit them and let them go to wilderness.
My bio-indicator of the dry spell is the
pipal or the Bo trees picked up from gutters (municipality and our rooftop gutter) germinated from crow droppings.
They start dropping their leaves, and the roots go in search for scarce water.
Apart from my cascading arrangement of water plants other arrangement is the small
piloted plot, on one end there, simulating the "wet zone" and on the other end there is the "dry zone".

The pipal plants occupy the dry zone.

In the beginning without any agricultural or academic training (I am a simple biologist),
I started it as a simple roof top laboratory.

I drop a stem of pineapple or a pipal tree sapling picked up in from gutter in the Kandy city, in between pots of water plants.

To see how they stand the awful weather without watering but sparingly water them, if I feel they are in their "end of the tether".

From plant experimenter to a plant lover,
I have graduated in 15 years.
I must say, I have no financial interests and abhor selling plants.
The simple love for caring for them.

Now the caring for them comes not from me.

The
tiny honey wild bee (not the regular bee already gone extinct) is the number one.
The dragon flies invest their genetic pool amongst the water plants.
The butterflies are plenty.
Except for ladybirds (haven't seen them for 4 decades).
I have a water plant which very rarely display (may be three years ago) its beautiful flower.
I found it a rightful place and today it had a single flower.

My experiment  (full ofbexcitement) was "pitched up" by a single red dragon fly on the dried up sandalwood tree (which was transferred to the wet zone recently and is beginning to sprout young shoots).By the way "wet zone" was created by leaking main overhead tank.

I decided to take some pictures.

There were three water lilies with flowers.

I had another lily with a yellow flower (most likely a foreign variety) which did not bloom for 15 years. It sprouts from its yam when the time is right, otherwise goes into hibernation.

Mind you, I never wished for any of these to happen.

The plants sensed and coordinated their activities to interact with simple wild beings which we call insects and
spray Baygon to kill them.

Who needs gods or deities to entertain?

Mind you I hate people who
pluck flowers and lay on altars (for not seen or not to be seen gods) as offers for gods.

These not seen gods have contributed nothing to their well being!

This piece is about Meditation.
If you visit a Meditation center in CEYLON and if they offer you a cup of tea, please say NO.

The reason is good tea has ingredients which elevate and enegize you well before settling down in meditation.

In my analysis a good cup of light tea in the morning before leaving for work is the best option.
Enjoy it.
Tea or Coffee during working hours helps to mitigate fatigue.

I am a Ceylon Tea addict and I lived on Tea during wirking hours in the University. We used to have a "Tea Boy" especially trained for  making tea. We had a good "Tea Boy" at IMMI and when foreign visitors come they were offered "Tea Pot".
When Robert McNamara came to retrenchment of IMMI staff, we had a Grand Tea Party.
The idea was to strike a good deal with Americans which is akways very difficult.
My boss Professor Ranjith Mendis was excellent in cakes but had a good taste for tea. I believe he owned a small tea plantation with a factory in Kandy.
When Japanese J. I. C. A. Guys left the University we had a grand party and I tasted the best "Orange Tea". I do not know from where he got the tea for send off party.

Good Meditation practice also release these feel good factors but not after five minutes of practice as advertised in the YouTube.

Meditation is a sustained activity but I prefer a good cup of tea.

The Yoga Tea (?Indian Tea) and Buddha Tea (? Chinese ot Thai) takes the origin from the "Feel Good Factors" or encephalins in medical terms.

If you a first time visitor to CEYLON, do not miss the "Cinnamon Tea" dished out free at the exit gate.
Best Cinnamon Tea is dished out (I do not know, how with NPP/JVP in power) at the top floor of Kheels Super Center.
Of course, Fish Rolls and Fish and Egg sandwiches are delicacies at the same venue.
Only Queens Hotel sidebar dushed out the best "Cachew Nuts with Karapincha".

These are some of the things I "miss out" in Australia.
CEYLON was known for "Hospitality and Good Food" before these goons came in to power.

Gnoppix 25.10 Version has NOT done a Good Job

I managed to get GNOME on Gnoppix on top of KDE but the Plymouth ddid not recognize GDM. I tried SDDM and it worked but had few more hitches left behind.

The /root was FROZEN and could not handle additional system files. I got a WARNING. Multiple Source Files were residing on the same folder. But carried on and discovered al the resident problems.

This is the problem with KDE. I continue NOT to support KDE development. KDE debelopers should not try to reinvent Linux protocols. CDE had similar problems and that is why GNOME was BORN.

Trinity old KDE does not try to rule the world but the current KDE does. In that attempt KDE is ruining all the Linux Principles.

Even logging in and out was a problem.

Besides, if one has a USER account the PASSWORD utility is in an Utter MESS.

This Gnoppix system is NOT yet Time Tested. It has lot of unnecessary KDE utilities and some additional ones which I won't waste time TESTING. Padding the system with rarely used utilities is not the way to develop a new system. I am not going to be a user of Knoppix and my comments may not be relevant. I wanted to see how AI works and its effect on Linux.

AI would ruin Community spirit which is the Base of Linux. Gnoppix neither has a User base nor developer community. That is the problem. It was a creative idea badly implemented and rushed through.

I am guy using Linux full time for long time. I am not trying to destroy the idea. I see KDE bloating as an antithesis to Linux forward march.

Emmabantus is better choice for newbies.

Good Luck to the Developers.

GNOME distribution guys are aslo trying to reinvent Linux. Dropping Synaptic Package Manager is a disaster. GNOME cannot be reinvented with new package manager. That is the bottom line.

These are the problems Commercial Linux Distributions like UBUNTU, ZORIN, Pop OS, Tuxedo, Elementary and now Gnoppix have.

Please do not try to reinvent the Wheel Linux invested.

Well I would give up Gnoppix.

One should use use ARCH based distributions for new ideas simplified. REBORN is a Good Option.

CachyOS, however is very restrictive and cannot live with other ARCH derivatives.

I am on Christmas Holidays and I propose Developers also take a 6 weeks holiday to be ready in the New Year to face problems, they themselves have created.

Klaus Knopper would be very unhappy and he would not make (German Guy) the mistakes Singaporeans have make.

Yes, Gnoppix has many problems since it is KDE Desktop. It is NOT a complete Linux Distribution.

Yes, Gnoppix 25.10 Version has NOT done a Good Job.

Little while ago, I installed it in my NUC without a problem.

WiFi is OK.

GRUB is OK.

Recognized all the other distributions i my NUC.

Thank YOU Gnoopix.

YOU have listened to my comments in the past and rectified, few missing features.

Additionally, you have added few of your own features.

I installed Gnome using Synaptic Package Manager. It ended up in a total MESS. Inability live with other desktops is my major grouse.

SOLUTION

Simple SOLUTION is as I have stated before for Klauss Knopper come out of hibernation and make one last Knoppix distribution called Knoppix-10 for Gnoppix to have a base to work on.

I would propose Nobel Prize for Klaus, if he does it in the New Year, 2026.

If not it will leave a bad taste for old time Knoppix user. I have been using Knoppix from 3.7. I would not have discovered Linux if Knoppix CD/DVD were not in existence.

Puppy Linux was there but it was meant to be for mobile USB use.

By the way, Gnoppix was not based on GNOME but KDE, arank misnomer to begin with.

Gnoopix has left a bad taste on Linux users.

Emmbantus does a Good Job- Installs Venoy using a Graphic Interface.

In my old age I do not use Terminal Interface.

Two reasons

I make mistakes.

My vision is poor., the likelihood of missing an instruction point is real.

In any case I am winding down my Linux activities.

I do not give any advice any soul now.

Say, try it yourself and computer world is moving fast with AI taking over Linux.  I am currently downloading Gnoppix that comes from Singapore to see it AI capabilities.

It says Copilot is inactivated by default.

Is it true.

It is 25.10 version.

Says it going to come out with a Mobile Version but Debian has produced two.

Lomiri and Phosh.

I have No data in my cellphone to test them but they are active in my NUC Box.

GO DEBIAN

It takes ages to write Gnoppix image on a USB.

Singaporeans are ones who are visiting my page most.

Thank YOU Gnoppix.

Emmabantus -Debian Edition 6

Emmabantus -Debian Edition 6

Emmabantus 6 is out after a long delay.

No blender and no cellphone utilities.

It comes from Africa, TOGO a former French colony.

This was the only distribution that supported AbiWord and additionally, it configured the WiFi and Internet effectively.

It has Synaptic Package manger.

It support five European countries but not meant for Asia.

I gave it up, I cannot remember why but may be my addiction to Debian.

Lie Ubuntu it tried to pad up things but I will certainly recommend it above Fedora SuSe Linux.

However, it does not have Lomiris and Poshe.

A forgotten fact about Russian Linux Astra has to be born.

It was first Linux distribution that integrated cellphone utilities with the PC. It went into hibernation and was slow to update. Just like Emmabantus, I forgot about Astra Linux.

It is 5.42GB and goes above my limit of 4GB Basic.

French are generally SLOW with Linux unlike Germans who are very innovative and have come up with many ARCH derivatives in addition to Neptune Linux ? and I forget the other (not Netrunner which has gone dormant).
