Why I hate Ayurvedic Physicians
This applies to Ceylonese guys not Indians.
They are no different than our politicians
1. Number one is their availability
2. Number two is their pomposity
3. Number three is they seems to know everything
4. Number four is their inability to pass down the knowledge to the next generation for proper scientific investigation
5. Number five is their involvement in Astrology
The last or the Number 5 is the most dangerous.
When treatment fails they use Astrology to hoodwink the innocent patients. The idea is to keep them bound to their grip.
Because of the above any many other sundry reasons we have lost the core knowledge.
My interest dates back to "Mini Mal" or the plant that grows in the cemetery with a beautiful yellowish flower.
Two components Vincristine and Vinblastine come from this plant which I used to treat leukemia patients, especially Lymphoblastic Leukamia in the United Kingdom.
Vincristine and vinblastine are derived from the periwinkle plant, Catharanthus roseus. Specifically, they are Vinca alkaloids, a group of compounds found in this plant.
In my retirement years I tried to do some tabulation of local medicinal plants and I collected 36 plants with the help of one of my classmates. He was an English Teacher in Ceylon, from whom I learned the Basics of Buddhism.
I started with mangoes, the famous fruit in Ceylon. I gradually realized that most of the medicinal ingredients are historically incorporated to our regular dishes.
Areca Nut and betel leaves are the glaring exceptions, even though I believe young betel leaves have antioxidants.
My interest has now matured into Botany. I try to find the botanical name for all the items I have used in my book "Vegetarian Saga"
Then I realized my mother who was coaxed believe by the British in Western Medline was feeding with two vegetable that gave me enormous protection.
One was the brainy vegetable and anti-inflammatory and the other one improved my bones and vision.
Gotu Kola- the Brainy vegetable
Ginkgo Biloba
