A Brief Overview of Mini OS
From March to August 2025, the MiniOS project underwent a fundamental modernization phase. During this period, over 600 commits were made, including more than 300 significant changes affecting all aspects of the system: from the basic architecture and build process to user applications and the visual interface.
1. Core Architecture Modernization
Transition to live-config: Our minios-boot initialization system has been replaced by the standard Debian mechanism, live-config. This has unified the live system setup process, adding new capabilities while retaining old ones. live-config has been adapted for MiniOS needs, particularly for supporting extended configuration, settings synchronization, password setup, and options for linking/mounting user directories.
New Codebase: The system is now based on Debian 13 "Trixie".
Transition to the Debian Kernel: We decided to abandon our custom kernel and use the standard Debian kernel in all editions. This will simplify future updates and maintain Secure Boot support.
2. Overhaul of User Utilities and Applications
Some key applications that come with MiniOS have been significantly redesigned, enabling modern graphical interfaces and expanded functionality. At the same time, new applications have been added that further improve usability for beginners.
MiniOS Installer: The system installer has received a new, intuitive graphical interface. The installation logic has been improved, and the console mode has been removed.
MiniOS Configurator: The system configurator has also been rewritten, becoming more user-friendly and functional.
Drive Utility: This utility, a fork of mintstick, has been radically redesigned. It now features a modern graphical interface and new functionality:
Image Writing: Supports writing image files (including .iso, .img, .bin, and their compressed variants) to block devices.
Image Creation: Added the ability to create an image from a block device to a file, with on-the-fly compression.
Secure Erase: An integrated utility for completely wiping data from storage media.
Improved Logic: Fixed issues with disk display in virtual machines.
MiniOS Session Manager: A new set of utilities for managing persistent MiniOS sessions, offering graphical minios-session-manager and command-line minios-session tools for session management.
MiniOS Kernel Manager: A new set of utilities for managing Linux kernels in MiniOS, offering graphical minios-kernel-manager and command-line minios-kernel tools that allow you to package kernels from repositories or .deb files and manage different kernels on the system.
3. User Experience (UX) and Interface Improvements
Great attention was paid to the visual component and ease of daily use.
Appearance and Unification: Work was done to unify the visual style across different desktop environments. The Greybird theme, which is standard for XFCE, was adapted and implemented for the Fluxbox desktop. This was complemented by updated wallpapers and icon sets, as well as the addition of styles for the correct appearance of QT6 applications.
New Icons: Over 20 new icons for applications (including Audacity, GParted, Double Commander, VSCodium) were added as part of the elementary-xfce-minios theme.
Universal Boot Menu: GRUB is now used as the boot menu for both UEFI and BIOS. All menu items are translated into supported languages.
4. Build System and Code Quality Optimization
The process of creating the distribution has become more reliable, faster, and more transparent.
"The Great Cleanup": A significant amount of obsolete and unused code was removed, including old scripts for Fluxbox and duplicate configurations. This has made the codebase "lighter" and easier to maintain.
CondinAPT Implementation: A new powerful script, condinapt, was developed and implemented for conditional package installation. This allowed us to move from numerous separate package lists to a single packages.list with flexible rules depending on the edition, architecture, and other build parameters.
Script Improvements: The main minioslib library has been enhanced with new functions and cleaned of old code.
Configuration Expansion: The general.conf configuration file was eliminated, and the build.conf file was significantly redesigned. In addition to the existing distribution, kernel, and locale settings, new parameters were added for detailed control:
Caching Settings: Options for flexible cache management, including the use of apt-cacher-ng and creating a local repository from the package cache.
Interactivity and Debugging: Long operations are now accompanied by a spinner. Additionally, a VERBOSITY_LEVEL setting has been added to build.conf to flexibly control the volume of logs during the build.
5. Documentation and Localization
Documentation: All manuals have been updated. The documentation has been significantly expanded to describe every aspect of working with the system.
International Support: Full support for the Indonesian language has been added. Existing translations (deutsch, español, français, italiano, português, português brasileiro, русский) have been updated and improved across all system components.

This is an addendum to a a previous post here in this blog spot which I have failed to express, fully.
Not to make an opinion on a discussion form elsewhere.
As Patisandhi (relinking) is the initial thought moment of life so Cuti (exiting), the final thought moment.
It is my belief as a medical man of yesteryear that Cuti citta and and Patisandhi citta are not separate but one process since the fertilized cell does not have a brain to generate another thought process.
It is my premise that mind can exist without brain substance and this is my real medical explanation, which I am going to include in my book "Meditation Business".
However, the thought process that exited the previous life would have some generative effect on the fertilized cell (not on a unfertilized cell).
It is in the state of Bhavanga stream perhaps, for about 6 weeks until the primitive brain forms.
In other words in a suspended state and not Antharbhava as stated by some Mahayana scholars.
It is the Javana state that propels it forward without the real Thadarammana existing.
What I want to say is that the mind energy is not static for 6 weeks but a functioning entity, all the same.
I do not engage in forums and following is a wrong connotation in a discussion forum heading the discussion.
Not my view but copied from elsewhere.
In the process of death, according to the Abhidhamma, a person will experience cuti citta and then patisandhi citta will arise which will be followed by sixteen moments of the bhavanga citta, seven javanas, and then the bhavanga arises again.
They are the entry point and exist point of a particular life.

It looks like developers especially Debian Gnome is shunning Wayland compositor which is Ubuntu based. The way Ubuntu stranded Wayland development was the beginning of the Ubuntu Saga.
I have not used Ubuntu on a regular basis, simply because, I entered Linux long before Ubuntu.
However, I have tested it many a times.
It had the best WiFi configuration utility and GRUB boot loader.
What I did not like was it uses root as a default which was ridiculous to a regular Linux user.
Second reason is it uses only one /root partition, even though one can define the partition on installation.
I had a feeling one day it becomes commercial long before it was.
The SAGA begins there.
There is no proper leader or leading principles but the glossy appearance, just like in KDE development.
Looks can be impressive but deceptive. What is important is what is underneath or under the hood.
Ubuntu is buggy underneath.
Entry into commercial environment make less reliable for common use. Ubuntu seems to leave the vulnerable pieces intact so the customer has to pay for any advice.
That is against Linux Principles.
Linux Principle is to get it right first time round.
All the Linux distributions that used Ubuntu as a base and not Gnome of Debian would get stranded which includes;
Tuxedos Linux
Pop OS
Zorin OS
Linux Mint
Linux Light
Elementary OS
Purely Debian Based are only MX Linux and Kali Linux.
I never recommend Kali Linux to anybody, but argue for Parrot OS which is MATE based.
One should understand why I have copy of MX Linux (many other reasons) always in my NUC.
I am still waiting for its Debian Trixie version.

It dawned on me that I did not say anything on Security in Linux in my book.
I am not an expert on security issues but is obsessed of protecting my data.
Very long time ago, I realized Facebook was sharing my data without my knowledge. I wanted to de-register and after 6 months they contacted me but they said that they cannot remove my name and data. Subsequent investigation, I found they were sharing my information with USA security agencies.
They actually hijacked the L.P.S Linux or Light and Portable Linux and renamed it as Trusted End Node Security (TENS). I stopped using it.
This is similar to the Stuxnet used by Mossad guys to cripple Iranian Nuclear facilities.
Linuxtracker Note is as follows:
Trusted End Node Security (TENS), previously called Lightweight Portable Security (LPS), is a Linux-based live CD with a goal of allowing users to work on a computer without the risk of exposing their credentials and private data to malware, key loggers and other Internet-era ills. It includes a minimal set of applications and utilities, such as the Firefox web browser or an encryption wizard for encrypting and decrypting personal files. The live CD is a product produced by the United States of America.
But this goes deeper, long time ago during mid 90s, a guy from India was snoozing on my Windows Box. Using a Live Linux CD, may be Damn Small Linux (D.S.L.), I traced him back to India and left a message saying, if he ever tries it again, I would do the unthinkable. I never had any problem afterwords and of course, I switched to Linux completely.
This is the point when I started hating Indian to this date.
Coming to security my way, I have at least two versions of the same Linux distribution, namely Debian Gnome.
Both have my working data or the last copy. If something happens I fall back to the reserved copy. By the way, this has never happened to me after I started using Linux.
Second thing I do is, I reinstall same or the latest image at least once having completely formatted the partitions.
I have copy of working files in a USB stick which is rarely plugged into the system.
All my Linux images are stored in Ntfs partitions which I have two and both are full with images and DATA. This is because I am testing them not on Live session but by really installing them on hardware.
I have left only one.
That is Gnome OS, which is 2GB. I am currently downloading it.

Why I stick with AbiWord
I stick with AbiWord due to many reason but I will highlight only three.
1. It has its own file format but can be concerted to others, if needed.
2. It has no Macros by default and it can remove from other file formats.
3. It is light weight and the six books I am currently doing is transferred to an alternative site in less than 5 minutes, not by cut and paste but opening and saving as anther edition of the same file. My book on "Linux Essentials" which is coming to about 450 pages has over 200 editions.
AbiWord, SOT Office, OpenOffice and LibreOffice
This piece is long.
I am a writer, doctor by profession (off from medical registration register for 25 years) and lastly a University Teacher for over 15 years, now fully retired.
Never wanted to become a professor.
University is an institution and it owns the individual and his / her status, when one works for one and long after one's exit from the institute and has copyright ownership of all the writings one may wish write.
In my time, in Ceylon one had to pay over Rs.35,000/= to get a copy of a chapter you wrote for them but was published by its printing press.
University sometimes owns a printing press, too.
My university did not and the printing press doing the printing for the University was near our house.
It is no more and gone bust since practically every university is defunct after pandemic closure (delay in having university entrance examinations and also delay in opening the university for those who already qualified).
Many of them have given up and a few a lucky one found a place in a foreign university.
I joined University as a permanent member well past 55 years and was a hard nut to crack.
University discontinued me on false grounds three times and I fought back only by threatening to take them to courts of law.
University has a lawyer of low caliber and always fear litigation.
I am a freelance writer and I self publish my books at Amazon books.
I am currently doing 6 books at my leisure and in the book of unique personalities I met in my life, I have a chapter on a nice guy who was the assistant registrar (only one registrar and the rest are assistants to the registrar) of the medical faculty.
He was a very nice guy and he was unceremoniously discharged from the university because he did not bend the law to satisfy the then Dean or the Vice Chancellor.
Reason, I do not know and my guess is one of the dons wanted to adjust the pass marks or class marks of one of his student stooges, probably of the opposite sex.
Registrar records the marks on a register and once entered by hand the marks cannot be altered and this is done individually and later checked in the presence of board of examiners.
In the examination board the board collectively decide to allocate the additional minimum marks necessary to pass a guy or girl who has failed the subject 4 or 5 times.
I have failed only one guy (foreign) in pathology in all my 15 years in the University.
He was a very nice guy hopeless in pathology but we made him to change the course of studies and found him an alternative university in his mother country.
I have not heard about of him since then.
All these rules, regulations and bylaws come from British and lately we are relaxing them to mass produce medical guys for export.
This guy (assistant registrar) fought the university for over 16 years or more and he won with a meager compensation.
He was not allowed to step into or legally barred from his ulma mater for life for standing firm on right side of the law.
It an inhumane place and I am glad I am no longer a part to it.
When politicians get involved in academic matters, they ruin everything.
The current president started as a state minister of education.
He dismissed, the principle of the Issipathana School, Mr. Alles who did not bend to his wishes on flimsy grounds. He fought back and won but started the first private school, Gateway International.
My daughter worked there and one of my middle school teachers became the director of this school after retirement. He was a very sweet guy coming from a Catholic School.
Now my superior professor who recruited me was removed from University Grant Commission by the current president unceremoniously. It was considered a political assignment made by Chandrika.
My professor had a grand plan for the entire University System and current president ruined it and appointed a political appointee as the Chair of the U.G.C.
My professor and his wife another professor left to Switzerland and never returned.
Current president's boss J.R.J. wanted to ruin all of the university education to introduce private universities.
We fought him head on against his attempts to ruin it, to keep the universities as semi-autonomous institutions (with a huge Senate to administer the independence of each, in academic matters of national interest).
In Ceylon teachers are recruited as puppets or prostitutes of the government in power.
Just now I hear the band playing and the teachers are paraded like school kids in the teacher training college by reserved Army Officers.
Training teachers to be Subservient to the Army.
We are a Police State currently will soon become an Army State.
Teaching is low priority and subservience is the name of the game.
This is why I wish NOT to be born again in Ceylon.
I am far off the target and I will start with Abiwotd and OpenOffice.
It all started with my University Thesis which I did on my PC with 1MB VGA and 128 MB on RAM on all floppy disks.
Working on floppy is a pain.
Every few minutes one has to save the file and Microsoft Office 95 with Macros was a pain.
I decided to make a print ready pdf (portable document format) file of my Thesis.
I was a camera man and photography was my hobby (not anymore) and turning my photos to png (portable network graphic was my forte for file transfer, in the old days of the Internet) and sending it to a friend abroad, was my intention.
So portable documents is in my genes and Microsoft could not do it.
Accidentally I found Abiwotd and my first book on Introduction to Linux was done on Abiwotd long after my Thesis.
Our University had strict standard for the Thesis and Office 95 with Macros could not fulfill it.
I went through SOT Office, Open Office 1 and 2 and found that OpenOffice removed Windows Macros in a flash.
AbiWord does it much better.
That was the beginning.
I opened my Thesis done on Windows Office 95 in OpenOffice and it warned me (this is to remove incompatibility of DOS and ODF - open document format and currently it is called ODT) and removed all the Macros in one full sweep.
Then I could make my Thesis exactly to the University Requirements and not a single dot or comma or image of statistics needed any editing in the final document.
By the way, I printed tons of pages after every editing session.
Photocopying was cheap then.
The faculty had several photocopying machines.
Now another point of conviction.
I did not want to give my copyrights to the University and gave them the minimum data needed to get my M Phil.
The PhD thesis which I did parallel with the M Phil was published as one of my own books named Human Placental Morphology.
I own it and it is a classic in this field.
I did a book on Microscope, too.
Microscope including digital microscope which I own, is one my childhood fantasy or dreams.
Looking at tiny microbes live or stained was more interesting than looking at them in two dimensional pictures in books.
Of course, I did a few books on Buddhism, too.
Let me finish with my simple Buddhist Outlook.
Buddha a human colossal lived a very simple life.
His forte was mental vigil.
I am trying hard to understand his teachings and being a scientist myself have had no luck so far.
All what I can say is, it is supermundane.
The science and Linux I am talking about are mundane stuff.
The AbiWord with about 28MB of footprint in which I did all my books of print ready pdf formats was an absolutely fantastic discovery by accident. It has now grown up to over 250MB.
OpenOffice also had pdf facility.
I am currently doing my first book on LibreOffice 7.3 installed in my Debian 5.2.1. as the default office package.
I sometime do the rough copy in LibreOffice and fine tune last copy with AbiWord.
AbiWord's page formats are finely tuned in headers, footers and chapters.
I will report back when it is over.
It looks OK but I am in my steep learning curve and I do not like it's English spelling (American bias and coming from France no wonder) talents.
I have my Oxford dictionary by my side always.
I will finish with a Chinese YouTube presentation on chip industry.
The guy said one need not overtake the arse in front.
I chose a different lane to overtake or go for new Innovations.
They are selling the Norwegian Lithographic machines and currently on course of their own printing machines.
Chinese character language has no limitation in vocabulary and most probably need one such machine of their own.
I do not blame them.
At least then the Chinese guys won't kill the Queen's Language.
The King Charles should look after his mother tongue and his own tongue twisting.

I will edit this later after my single meal (a day).
I can survive on a single meal simply because English Tea is my Engine of Drive.

Phylogenetic Tree
This piece I am writing with anger and disgust.
I have lot of books in many fields including,Science, Biology, Linux, Buddhism and lot of dictionaries.

1. I love Linux.
Even though, it's kernel is of several million lines of coding but with about 10 commands, I can get to what I want to explore in Linux.
With my favorite Debian and with LibreOffice, I can finish writing a book in 3 days.
But I prefer AbiWord for my writings.
This is not so with other utilities.
2. Dhamma inherits it's words in Pali and with a Pali Dictionary in hand I can attempt to understand the meaning in Pali.
By the way, some modern Buddhist monks have made a mockery of Dhamma interpretation, that vary from a monk to a monk.
I follow only Satipattana and 37 Bhodhipakkariyadhammas.
That's it.
In Dhamma there is meaning (atta), condition or law (dhamma), etymology (nirutti) and understanding (patibhana).
They are collectively called Patisambhida.
3. I hate all languages especially French since the syntax of which is confusing and spoken language is dissimilar varying from person to person.
I am only interested in reading texts in French not speaking it except for greeting someone nicely.
It is as pleasant language in that sense, unlike German or English.
English has borrowed so many words from other languages.
It has no way of avoiding adding more and more words to the ever enlarging dictionary.
When I started learning French at the age of 55, I thought all what I need is a basic text and a good dictionary but I was proven wrong.
By the way, I sat GCE (O) Level and had a pass in French and a distinction in English, well past 55 years.
4. I hate psychology by default.
One day I browsed a dictionary of psychology and found it has more words than all the words combined, in three subjects of mathematics, physics and chemistry.
No wonder psychologist commit suicide more often than a radiologist or a pathologist who sees, the things in perspective, instead of attaching any significance or bondage or emotion.
Bit of dry sense and bare bone medicine has not being inspiring to me.
A radiologist sees a shadow of an object and pathologist sees it after the fact or death.
Both professions may point these findings to a disease process or more but have no clinical responsibility to treat the living or consoling the dead, unless, it is a case of murder when a forensic guy takes over.
In other words psychologists are entangled in their own cooked up terminology with no meaning to the subject in suffering, they are trying to treat.
They poor subject is dosed up with a drug ultimately and with no escape.
So it is better not to have a language or have a primitive pidgin language for communication.
I think prehistoric man never had psychological disease but fear of some sort to a real situation at hand was their problem, for example lightening, thunder or inclement weather.
All religions have not answered this basic fear but has added another layer of confusion and many more words.
I was looking for as diagram showing phylogenetic tree of evolution on this planet from all my biology books and I could not find anything worthwhile.
I used Google search engine and found a link to Wikipedia but the entry was in bits and pieces.
Phylogenetic Tree
A phylogenetic tree is a branching diagram, like a family tree for species, that graphically represents the evolutionary relationships between a group of organisms or genetic sequences. It shows how different life forms are related based on physical traits or genetic similarities and differences, with branches showing evolutionary divergence from common ancestors. The tips of the tree represent the organisms or groups being studied, while the nodes (or branching points) represent hypothetical common ancestors.
Tips (or Leaves):
These are the endpoints of the branches and represent the species or other biological entities being studied.
Nodes:
These are the branching points where lineages diverge, representing a hypothetical common ancestor from which descendant groups evolved.
Branches:
The lines connecting the nodes and tips. The length of the branches can sometimes indicate the amount of evolutionary change or time that has passed.
Root:
The base of a rooted tree, which represents the most recent common ancestor of all the taxa in the tree.
Evolutionary Relationships:
The pattern of branching illustrates how species or groups have diverged from a series of common ancestors.
Common Ancestry:
The tree suggests that all life on Earth is connected through common ancestry, a fundamental concept in evolutionary biology.
Relatedness:
Two species are considered more closely related if they share a more recent common ancestor (i.e., their split occurred more recently).
Understanding History:
They help us visualize the evolutionary history and lineage of different organisms.
Genetic Studies:
They are built using molecular data (like DNA or protein sequences) to understand relationships and functions of genes.
Disease Outbreaks:
They can be used to trace the evolutionary patterns of infectious agents, helping to understand outbreaks.
My current interest is how the brain developed from monkeys to apes to human and even the embryology book, I bought has very limited entry on brain and it's development.
There is something wrong in the teaching of science globally including medicine.
They are inundated with massive knowledge base.
It is not limited to psychology.
I have decided to a write few books under 100 pages starting with cloud formation, physics, lightening, phobias, mind and rebirth.
But power cuts are hindering my efforts.
So cellphone has come to my rescue and diffuse the pent up pressure due to no gas and no electricity.
Hunger I have decided to stomach but not mental boredom.
The Knowledge base has become money spinner including Wikipedia.

The first wave of the promotion would be done with the reciting of “Linux Saranam Gachchami”, three times a day religiously when one start the day at office.
All email communications should end with a greeting similar to “A Linux a day keeps the bugs away”.
In tribute to the open source software foundation, the first project would be to develop a Linux in Sinhala Installation, well in advance of the Microshaft Cronies would have a chance to add a Sinhala Version to X-XPs for a pricey sum (for our village boys eating Kentucky Chicken).
Colombook Cronies who a itching to make a fast buck once the Microshaft Edition of Sinhala comes into operation in our remote village (schools / tutories) corners (shops) may have heart attacks with the thought of our project.
We recommend them that they should get their blood cholesterol checked until such time the Microshaft version is built in America.
Linux converts (disciples) may preach as they please.

I had to delay writing this article for various reasons.
It was mainly because, we Ceylonese have many other obsessions than to ponder for academic interests at large.
I did not feel the headaches (pain) of the flu the Window was suffering.
However, Linux could do the honors and erase the boot partition.
Ever since, hesitantly and courageously, I tread on the pathway where Linux has laid for computer enthusiasts, I have many good things and bad things to talk about Linux.
Good thing about Linux is that one does not have to be rich to own a Linux box. It comes free, open source and there are many flavours of it.
I had to do my own way, the hard way.
It has paid it dividends just in two years for me.
While I was doing my initial research on Linux, how much, I need to spend learning from an expert (for that matter any computer course), I found it was not worth even contemplating a tutor.
Not only it is cheap it is academically comprehensive.
The answer is Linux for its versatility and open source nature.
Reading from Linux magazines, the Linux phenomenon has come to schools in Nepal.
With some foreign inputs it has taken a root in Nepal.
Ethiopians have put their alphabet into Red Hat Fedora.
Both Mandrake 10 and Red Hat Fedora could use Sinhala font now.
With our foreign reserve going down we have no other option than to turn to Linux.
Linux converts (disciples) should preach this to the masses.
I am reproducing this, since I contacted the only teacher who was interested in Kandy, say Hi, due to Coronavirus respite.
He is now into video conferencing (he wanted to introduce in schools many moons ago and was stymied by the system that prevent innovation.).
In fact he was transferred out of his post and I advised him to take leave and go abroad an update his talents abroad.

I had to delay writing this article for various reasons.
It was mainly because, we Ceylonese have many other obsessions than to ponder for academic interests at large.
I did not feel the headaches (pain) of the flu the Window was suffering.
However, Linux could do the honors and erase the boot partition.
Ever since, hesitantly and courageously, I tread on the pathway where Linux has laid for computer enthusiasts, I have many good things and bad things to talk about Linux.
Good thing about Linux is that one does not have to be rich to own a Linux box. It comes free, open source and there are many flavours of it.
I had to do my own way, the hard way.
It has paid it dividends just in two years for me.
While I was doing my initial research on Linux, how much, I need to spend learning from an expert (for that matter any computer course), I found it was not worth even contemplating a tutor.
Not only it is cheap it is academically comprehensive.
The answer is Linux for its versatility and open source nature.
Reading from Linux magazines, the Linux phenomenon has come to schools in Nepal.
With some foreign inputs it has taken a root in Nepal.
Ethiopians have put their alphabet into Red Hat Fedora.
Both Mandrake 10 and Red Hat Fedora could use Sinhala font now.
With our foreign reserve going down we have no other option than to turn to Linux.
Linux converts (disciples) should preach this to the masses.
I am reproducing this, since I contacted the only teacher who was interested in Kandy, say Hi, due to Coronavirus respite.
He is now into video conferencing (he wanted to introduce in schools many moons ago and was stymied by the system that prevent innovation.).
In fact he was transferred out of his post and I advised him to take leave and go abroad an update his talents abroad.
Forming a New Party
Thought of forming a new party for the coming year was an idea I conceived from the Party of the Loonies from Great Britain.
It stands for Linux Lovers (“Addict”) Party.
For parties opposing us can use any other interpretation's, like Lankan Loonies, Lankawatama Lights, Lanu (Dirappu) Lunu or l-Nunu l-Nunu (l-silent of course) Party.

The first wave of the promotion would be done with the reciting of “Linux Saranam Gachchami”, three times a day religiously when one start the day at office.
All email communications should end with a greeting similar to “A Linux a day keeps the bugs away”.
In tribute to the open source software foundation, the first project would be to develop a Linux in Sinhala Installation, well in advance of the Microshaft Cronies would have a chance to add a Sinhala Version to X-XPs for a pricey sum (for our village boys eating Kentucky Chicken).
Colombook Cronies who a itching to make a fast buck once the Microshaft Edition of Sinhala comes into operation in our remote village (schools / tutories) corners (shops) may have heart attacks with the thought of our project.

Versatility of Linux
The biggest plus point of Linux is one need not worry about Virus attacks.
The file structure of parent child relationship makes it difficult to insinuate wild or viral coding when running the system.
There is a big community that supports Linux and also individual distributions.
Number one attribute of Linux, is it protects the hardware both old and new.
One can use hardware as long as one desires or until one decides to buy new infrastructure.
Say, buy a Mini Computer with a Video display.
Number two attribute is, it detects hardware problems at boot time and reports them before booting.
It gives a live report at booting but the problem is that it flashes them fast, in less than 30 seconds.
One should develop the habit of reading them at boot time.
If one press Control plus Shift and F1 (Ctr+ Alt plus F1) at boot time readout is available.
Once the kernel detects the hardware the Linux distribution boots instantly.
Rest depends on the desktop type.
Xfce boots fast and KDE plasma boots slowly and Gnome in between.
One can go to command line using Ctr + Alt and Function keys before and after booting.
Number three is, it schedules all the processes (cron jos) as either live or inactive and saves resources for work in progress.
Linux is absolutely fast due to above and many other reasons.
Then there are many solid distributions to choose.
One is not hooked to a company or product that fails to update.
