Dreams-X-Files-03-Updated

 Dreams-X-Files-03

Well, well, well, another dream in a series of dreams.

I was sorting out some threesomes before I drop to sleep.

In fact, I was up all night sorting out my “got to do” work and dropped to sleep briefly.

It was related an ankle injury.

Somebody known to me (cannot remember who) had a fall or had a vehicle tire run over his / her foot, came to me for treatment.

Here, I practice, RICE treatment.

and ask subject/patient to come to casualty after 24 hours for REVIEW.
In an unfamiliar or previously unknown case, I take two X-rays in perpendicular plane for comparison with the Review X-Ray done usually after 24 hours.

X-ray is done to rule out bony injuries.

Main injury is lateral ligament injury (consist of three associated ligaments, one in front, one in the middle and one behind).

Bony injuries heel without much a do, since all the bones are stabilized in a 90 degree plane but ligament injuries do cause serious instability (it takes all the body weight) of the ankle joint.

Second X-ray is done to see avulsion injury of the ligament/s (gives the severity) which shows as little calcification not immediately but after about 24 hours.

Bony injuries separated are shown in the initial X-rays and bnoy injuries due to compression are also visible as linear calcification lines, after 24 to 48 hours.

It does not mater it is soft tissue or bony injury, since the treatment for both is the same below knee plaster cast.

But bony injury the time of removal of the P.O.P cast is late and soft tissue injuries physiotherapy is more vigorous.

In any case plaster cast is removed and reapplied once the swelling is at its minimum.

For some unknown reason, in my dream, the standard treatment was interfered with and some altercation with the staff (not me, probably the radiographer was) followed.

Either, I did not order an X-ray (this is one of my cost saving exercises, even when working abroad-mildest form injury get only one X-ray, after 24 hours -for exclusion purposes not conclusion of more severe injury) or the VIP guy demanded one immediately and the radiographer refused without a doctors request form, which is the norm.

With this commotion I was woken up.

I went back to sleep immediately and the dream continuum did not follow.

Since, I knew there was a second part to the dream and there was an indication or some form heralding of, that the guy/girl was a big shot with political connection, I needed to send this to Maha.

In any case, I had to work hard to remember even this part of the dream (after 12 hours) which is perfectly normal for me.

I wanted to pen it down before dropping to sleep again but deferred to test my own ability to remember later today.

I may have said, do a brain scan as a precaution knowing very well the political and volatile nature and to inflame (bit of a perversion on my part when I deal with big shots) the scenario vee bit more, like biting a player in mid air in football.

I would have added, give a date in six months into future and if he wants it as an emergency scan it costs him three times as much (this is a standard manoeuvrings in government and private practice consortium in Sir-Lanka taking into consideration the money market and the supply) the normal rate.

This is an easy way out with politician since they have a very short term memory of all the promises they made, before coming into power.

Unfortunately voters have very, very short memory, shorter that their powerful counterparts or bosses.

It is past midnight my peak performance our without any worldly interference with my dog under my bed and mosquitoes hovering for a landing and striking site, just like the Russian aid convoy in Ukraine.

Below is a few lines one should know about ankle injury, in retrospect.

How do the ankle ligaments get injured?

Most ankle ligament injuries are caused when the foot twists inwards. All of the body's weight is then placed on the lateral ankle ligaments. The anterior and middle fibers of the ankle stretch or tear, in an ankle sprain or strain of the ankle. Occasionally small pieces of bone may be torn off with the ligaments.

In a few cases, a twisting force on the ankle may cause other damage. The bones around the ankle may be broken, a piece of the cartilage lining the ankle may be chipped off, ligaments connecting other bones in the foot may be sprained or torn, or the tendons around the ankle may be damaged.

Before coming back to my dream some of my threesomes for today are an entree.

I immediately contacted Maha and he was kind to listen to my concerns.

Was there a second part.

Yes.

It is not nice?

Yes, indeed.

Why.

The politico calls the police.

The come in a white van.

Most of them were wearing strange fatigues never seen in this world.

Then you were evacuated.

I believe to safety?

I am not sure.

I heard some grimaces.

Why?

The usual practice is to test the evacuee’s pain threshold.

Like in Guantanamo Bay!.

Yes.

What happened next.

I do not know.

Don't con?

Yes, really, the use some smoke screen to even blindfold or blind me.

Is it good outcome?

No.

How to get the details?

You have to wait for an internal inquiry.

Is it impartial or partial inquiry?

Always partial.

Why?

So, to make external inquirers squishy and spongy in their attitude towards us, Sri-Lankans.

They can complete the partial inquiry complete and impartial, too, and they get a big pay hike for their efforts.

Both parties are happy in that way.

Will they finish the inquiry before their term.

Never.

Inquiry should be prolonged to include a regime change, which is measured in eons.

So, nobody will be privy to the truth, the real truth and nothing but the real truth.

Yes my dear.

Is it futuristic?

Yes.

Howe come?

From years from now, democracy become a spent force.

This planet earth will come into severe resource strain of magnitude never known in human history.

Population expansion gone over 10 billions.

Each, country is to its own device.

There war petty wars, in sea, land and air.

There is precious little fuel resources.

Only used by the rulers.

If subjects ask more.

Oliver Twist principles applies.

Incarcerated.

No.

They are used in new form of biological energy, till they die of exhaustion.

Their muscle energy is converted to electrical energy to recharge the batteries of the cars.

What about solar cars.

They are non-existent.

There is almost eternal blackish cloud cover preventing sun rays to penetrate the lower atmosphere.

So the subjects are used to generate electricity.

Yes.

If they don't.

They perish.

There is so much to spare with 10 billion or more living miserable.

Les Misérables?

They are easily dispensable.

In actual fact they volunteer freely.

Why?

That is the only way to get one square meal.

If they don't.

They perish of starvation.

Is it in my time.

No dear.

Do not worry.

He disappeared.

Ignore what is down below.

Preview NOW and interpretation and rating later.
These X-Files with interpretation will come with a difference.
I am developing a search engine to rate them from 0 to 5, like the Stupidity Index.
In relating to relevance to current political climate, whether they are astute or not, ambiance, downright outrageous, the like.
Rating 4 to 5 will be in the blog site and rating 0 to three will be in a digital book form soon.
So you have to bear with me till I reveal the Maha's interpretation for a future date.
This I believe, this will revisiting guest to my site and my own EGO by having more than 100 his a day.
The font will be on blue when the interpretation is activated.

Dreams-X-Files-02-Updated

Now you have the updated version with the interpretation from Maha, the Great.
Dreams-X-Files-02
Just another short dream.
I was woken up but could not go back to it as a continuum.
The second half was stopped due to its inherent danger, I believe.
This one is for Maha Brahma's interpretation.
Kites was my childhood love.
This dream is related to a kite.
Not of usual nature.
I was walking along a footpath that divides a big paddy field into two, quite casually.
Aimless and nothing in my hand.
In the middle of the footpath, somebody threw a kite at me and I gladly grabbed it in both hands.
There was nice gentle breeze and my kite was airborne instantaneously.
There were several other kites high above the sky.
My gifted miracle kite went up and went around the robes/threads with my nylon robe with a single big Kurian (the turn it takes when the kite is not properly balanced in its construction or it dressing with oil paper and frills) and came up encircling all the other kites.
I mean the leashes or ties holding them in hand.
The knot it created in air strangled all the other kites (of their leading leashes) and threatening to break them away free.
I loosened my grip on the leash / lead but woke up immediately with my heart thumping.
This had some instinctive stint of political nature and was a good one to interpret by Maha the Great.
Besides, I missed the second part of the dream by Maha's interference.
So as to say.
Instant email and instant video chat with Maha was warranted.
Interpretation
Maha was quick to respond to our video chat.
You were alarmed.
Didn’t you?
YES.
I never would do such a thing as a kid.
How can I do that in my dream state.
Well, you use your safety catch and control when you are dreaming.
That is the beauty of dreams.
That is why like them.
I love your futuristic interpretation.
Mutually beneficial.
Aren’t they?
Was there a second part?
Yes.
It got to be nasty.
Yes.
What happened?
Who was the guy who threw the kite at me?
Let me tell you the second part to begin with.
As you expected with the tangle your kite made one by one all the kites lost the contact with the owner.
It was not my kite.
OK.
Let me finish.
When the last kite was unleashed, the hell broke.
There was a big brawl.
Everybody who was somebody vent the anger on you.
You were profusely bleeding from your nose.
Just like English cricketer Stuart Brood.
That is why, I stopped the dream in mid flight.
OK.
Who was the guy who threw the kite at me.
He was one of the presidential advisers.
Elementary, Sir.
That is what they do.
They give ropes not flying kites to the President you know.
Exactly.
But who were the guys flying kites.
They were the presidential aspirants.
Were there Buddhist monks.
Many.
That is the very reason the brawl took place, in any case.
Anywhere there is a Buddhist monk there is hot pursuit.
This include Myanmar.
What happened to you.
Nothing.
You escaped unscathed.
Why did you stop the dream.
There was a problem.
You were a doctor by profession.
You had to attend to all.
Were there any from the power keg.
None.
You were the only zombie representative.
That is why you were unscathed
They party that made you into the scene had a covert operation to protect you.
The idea was to make maximum damage to all the parties except those in power.
That is not anything new.
But this is election time, know.
When opposition in disarray it is plain sailing, know.
So if you started attending to a monk, one will label you as BBS guy and attack, you.
If you help a UNP guy on treatment, you will be labeled capitalist.
If you help JVP, you will be labeled unpatriotic.
If you help any other you will be labeled NGO guy.
So, you were in a dilemma, trilemma and quadrilemma.
So, even though you escape unscathed at the beginning you would die of a brain split.
That is why, I stopped the dream.
Is it futuristic?
YES, of course.
Let me guess?
It will be not so long in the future.
Yes.
May be 100 years?
No.
In a matter of “regime change of your time.
Is that so.
Yes.
Let me here it the without any more interruptions or queries.

Interpretation.
In not so distant future everything will be digital.
Most of the political campaigns will be RUN “on cloud computing” with Mega Servers programmed to run regime with eternity with feedback from the voters to the nanoseconds.
So the politicians in do not have waste going for funerals, wedding and all godforsaken functions.
Only guys and girls or aspirants in power have to toil but with minimum of success.
No computer gimmicks, too.
This is how it works.
They design a digital front called, front or end users, the average voter without any qualitative increase in living standards but hitched fro head to toe to social media for entertainment and cooked u information to suit temporally.
The front end is like the bottom end of a broomstick made of coir fiber.
It is flat with narrow posterior end but outlandishly broad to take all the visible colours of the rainbow.
Just like the rainbow coalition of yesteryear South Africa.
There is bit of a difference to the broomstick.
It is a warn out broomstick with coir fibers missing in places and in those places there are sticks of various lengths attached with a flag of colour depending on the party colour.
The size and length of the stick and flag is proportionate to the popularity of the party, especially if it of the opposition.
The display and the movement is monitored by a “blow hot blow cold” win generator attached to the rear end of the broomstick like gadget.
Let us call this wind machine, the whirlwind, whistle blower, wikileaks or any name that comes to your mind.
It constantly changes according to the voter behavior and his likes and dislikes.
So with this political wind machine all the votes are blindfolded or camouflaged and made happy.
The real power keg is well behind and hidden from public view but attached to the broomstick with large number of wires to another political console which is 100G compatible (new technology) fast encrypted wifi connection.
The power it may has full control of the wifi system and the opposition cannot think of having access to this virtual console for eons and is automated to reject any connection to opposition politicians, opposing the omnipotent universal power keg at the helm or hell (for democracy).
They will be in power for eternity.
There one difference, they do not have to abide by common law.
The common law applies to those in front of party flags of digital broomstick in operation.
They will be dealt with digital broomstick attacks until their brains get numb or they forget the claim or appeal they made to the almighty political bosses.
What happen to the presidential advisers.
They are the first kind to disappear or get numb by the digital broomstick attack.
Will I live to see this scenario.
No you are long gone and your, grandchildren will be affected.
In that case I should not have grandchildren at all.
Is that all.
Yes.
See with your next dream and I will be at your service.
OK, SIR.
He disappeared in a flash.

Ignore this  part will YOU

BPA-Free Plastic Containers May Be Just as Hazardous

This is worth reproducing in full, even though it violates my own Linux ethics of reproduction and re-grafting.

But being a Free Software, Free Speech Convict, it for the grandchildren.

I may be in a coffin soon but hope nobody vilify me in the coffin.

BPA-Free Plastic Containers May Be Just as Hazardous

Animal studies find that a replacement compound for the estrogen-mimicking chemical bisphenol A may be also be harmful to human health
Aug 11, 2014 By Jenna Bilbrey

Currently, no federal agency tests the toxicity of new materials before they are allowed on the market.

In 2012 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration banned the sale of baby bottles that contain bisphenol A (BPA), a compound frequently found in plastics. The ban came after manufacturers’ responded to consumer concerns of BPA's safety after several studies found the chemical mimics estrogen and could harm brain and reproductive development in fetuses, infants and children.* Since then store shelves have been lined with BPA-free bottles for babies and adults alike. Yet, recent research reveals that a common BPA replacement, bisphenol S (BPS), may be just as harmful.
BPA is the starting material for making polycarbonate plastics. Any leftover BPA that is not consumed in the reaction used to make a plastic container can leach into its contents. From there it can enter the body. BPS was a favored replacement because it was thought to be more resistant to leaching. If people consumed less of the chemical, the idea went, it would not cause any or only minimal harm.
Yet BPS is getting out. Nearly 81 percent of Americans have detectable levels of BPS in their urine. And once it enters the body it can affect cells in ways that parallel BPA. A 2013 study by Cheryl Watson at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston found that even picomolar concentrations (less than one part per trillion) of BPS can disrupt a cell’s normal functioning, which could potentially lead to metabolic disorders such as diabetes and obesity, asthma, birth defects or even cancer. “[Manufacturers] put ‘BPA-free’ on the label, which is true. The thing they neglected to tell you is that what they’ve substituted for BPA has not been tested for the same kinds of problems that BPA has been shown to cause. That’s a little bit sneaky,” Watson says.
A 2011 study published in Environmental Health Perspectives found that almost all of the 455 commercially available plastics that were tested leached estrogenic chemicals. This study lead to a bitter legal battle between Eastman Chemical Co. and the study’s author, George Bittner, professor of neurobiology at The University of Texas at Austin and founder of CertiChem and PlastiPure, two companies designed to test and discover nonestrogenic plastics.
Bittner claimed in the peer-reviewed report that Eastman’s product Tritan, marketed to be completely free of estrogenic leaching, showed such activity. Eastman claimed otherwise and filed a suit. A federal jury ruled in favor of the latter, saying Bittner’s testing methods were inadequate because the tests were done in vitro—in a petri dish rather than in vivo, in a live animal.
Since this episode, independent scientists have focused their efforts on in vivo testing. Deborah Kurrasch, from the University of Calgary, turned to zebra fish to study the effects of BPS on embryo development. Brain development in zebra fish is similar to that in humans but much easier to track. When the fish were dosed with BPS in similar concentrations to that found in a nearby river, neuronal growth exploded, rising 170 percent for fish exposed to BPA and a whopping 240 percent for those exposed to BPS. As the fish aged they began zipping around their tank much faster and more erratically than the unexposed fish. The researchers concluded that increased neural growth likely lead to hyperactivity. “Part of the problem with endocrine disruptors is they usually have a U-shaped dose response profile,” Kurrasch says. “At very low doses they have activity and then as you increase the dose it drops in activity. Then at higher doses it has activity again.”  She found a very low dose—1,000-fold lower than the daily recommended amount for humans—can affect neural growth in zebra fish.
In another study, Hong-Sheng Wang, an associate professor at the University of Cincinnati, found that both BPA and BPS cause heart arrhythmia in rats. He tested almost 50 rats, giving them the chemicals in doses akin to concentrations found in humans. Even at such low concentrations the rats’ hearts began to race, but curiously only those of the females. They found that BPS blocked an estrogen receptor found only in female rats, which lead to the disruption of calcium channels—a common cause of heart arrhythmia in humans.
These in vivo studies agree with in vitro studies claiming that BPS is a hazard. But the problem doesn’t stop with removing bisphenol S from the market as was done for bisphenol A. The problem, according to Kurrasch, lies in the lack of industry regulation. Currently, no federal agency tests the toxicity of new materials before they are allowed on the market. “We’re paying a premium for a ‘safer’ product that isn’t even safer,” Kurrasch says. There are many types of bisphenols out there, so part of the public’s responsibility “is making sure [manufacturers] don’t just go from BPA to BPS to BPF or whatever the next one is.”

Is it “Just Browsing may not be SAFE”?

Is it “Just Browsing may not be SAFE”?
I tried Just Browsing with not so old computer.
It froze when I tried to listen to some old radio music of BBC.
I had 1 GiB of RAM.
I booted again with the same result.
My advice is for you to read all the instruction (I have no time for that) given by their home page.
In fact I have copied its introduction below.
Arch Linux is one of those pure Linux derivatives which (I had problom with it until Manjaro and Antegos came in) I found it very difficult to master Arch Linux.
It is so pure it has one application (unlike other Linux derivatives) fo one job
I am no novice to Linux and one who test Linux distribution and write few encouraging lines for the developers to keep improvng the distributions.
These guys and girls do it as a hobby (that is bit of a problem) and not as daily bread winner.
Having said that, unlike Microsoft, they do not take years to fix and patch.
Moment a bug is detected it is fixed within three months, in the Linux community.
That is the level of comradeship.
In fact, there is an article on current Linux magazine about Arch derivatives (read if you have time).
I do not think the problem is with Arch.
Even if they have they will fix it no time.
It is the problem with the Browser which tries to load all the application in one go, just like Windows do, and take up all the working memory.
That may be the reason for the freezing.
I just love Firefox from the days it was very tiny (now of course it has metamorphosed to a Gorilla at the Dinner Party).
Even now, it is my primary browser.

Maxthon’s Cloud Browser (?Sets You Free) has entered the fray.

I have not used it.

Mobile browser vulnerability lets hackers steal cloud computing time and material.

A novel technique based on MapReduce could let hackers hijack computing resources used by cloud-based mobile browsers and use them anonymously, according to security researchers from North Carolina State University and the University of Oregon.

There is no way out of out this menace you are spied from your spouse, friend, enemy to your boas and government.

The easiest way out is to not to visit or browse but make a physical or personal contact.

That is how the secret service worked in good old days.

But my recommendation is always a silky light weight browser for cloud computing but with lot of reservation if it does not have security built into it..

The nearest is Ice Weasel of Debian (I hope Debian would put a Live CD with cloud computing in mind).
With that reservation, I recommend this to you before parting with your money for USB key.
JustBrowsing is a bootable Linux "Live CD" that does not make any changes to the existing operating system on the computer. Enjoy a simple computing experience with only a web browser (your choice of Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome).
Bundled webapps include a calculator, text editor, timer and more that are always one click away. Try JustBrowsing, it's safe, secure and no install necessary.
Designed with old machines in mind.
Don't throw out your old computer, put JustBrowsing on it!
No logins, no malware, no sluggish boot.
Perfect for guests. Boot from CD-ROM, USB, hard drive, I-ODD, or Virtual Machine.
Releases are built with the latest version of Firefox (stable) and Chrome (stable).
Both are loaded up with useful bookmarks and sensible extensions "out of the box" with the freedom to add your own and even to sync your profile with Firefox Sync or Chrome Sign-in.
Privacy is important and your browsing history is erased when you turn off the computer.
The default search uses DuckDuckGo which does not track your search history and does not "filter bubble".
Ad blocking is installed to protect you from misleading links and tracking advertisements. "Do not track" is enabled too.
JustBrowsing comes with a lockscreen to protect your privacy if you have to leave the computer and alerts you of intruders.
The JustBrowsing project is free and open source.
Based on ArchLinux i686 (32-bit).
Now available optimized for x86_64 (64-bit) too.

Greenie Linux-Ebook Version

Update
I am glad to report that I downloaded another copy of Greenie CD and it works fine.

Missing file was included in the second download.

This was updated with Greenie CD in a  Live Session!

Greenie Linux-Ebook Version
Is Lubuntu in LXDE (not Ubuntu)
It is pretty good.in DVD.
But the CD version (from Softpedia) did not boot.
There was on file missing on testing the media.
Go for the DVD and not CD.
I hope they fix the problem with the CD and make available the image in Linuxtraker (torrent files checks for integrity. not direct downloads).
It is pretty 14-04 Kernel (NEW).
Note this is posted with Handy Linux booted LIVE in English

Handy Linux Update-Version 1.6.1-French and English

Handy Linux Update-Version 1.6.1
This comes from France and a pretty good replacement for Win-XP.

I tested 1.5.1 which was only in French.

Then after searching in the web for two hours I managed to find an English version CD iso.

The current version is available at both Softpedia and www.linuxtracker.org.

There is a caveat, though.

It boots very fast even in my old computer.
It is not in English but in French.

One has to use a trick that SUSE Linux has.

YOU HIT F-3 and you get to the boot MENU (which is in practical purpose only in French) and SELECT English.
Presto!
It boots in English.
Please do not confuse this with the dialog that come at START UP.

It is for the Keyboard not for booting.

There is also a light vreion which I have not tested

Good and Handy Work Handy Linux.
THANK YOU..

Cruelty to BIG Gentle (Elephants) animals, the Norm of Sri-Lanka

It looks like two years of my perseverance in highlighting the plight of elephants (both wild and domesticated) is bearing fruit, a significantly a small number, nevertheless

is venting their AIR NOW.

The majority are on "the cruelty to animals side" in this Buddhist country of ours, openly supporting any cruelty in the name of TRADITION and Buddhism.

For a change I watched Day Perehara (to see how many Tiny Tots were there) on the 11th.

There were tears in my eyes, when I saw the smallest of the baby elephants.

This one would have been feeding (breast feeding) from mom, if had been in the jungle.

The baby was cruelty weaned

I imagined myself being a kid given as a slave to a wealthy "Nilame with tusker" in his possession by my care takers to be trained under a mahout.

 Pathetic.

Scenario is no different.

We have become very cruel in the name Dalada Perehara.

I am pretty sure if Buddha was living today, he would NOT have said, Yes to this cruelty.

Elephants of Sri Lanka

The sight of elephants is very common to residents of Kandy, as the Dalada Maligawa elephants are tied and fed in stables that are in the premises of Diyawadana Nilame’s quarters now, and they move around in the Town for errands of Maligawa. As I grew up a youngster and an adult I have had experiences of elephants and mahouts. Elephants, however large they are in size, are very innocent. When captured, they have to be with the mahouts until they die. Only a sympathetic mahout treats the creature with kind words or behaviour. 95% of the Mahouts are betel eaters and very often inebriated. When they accompany the animals at Perahera ceremonies only they dress well. If not, wear a sarong and the shirt fully open or bear bodied, with a talisman hanging on the neck. Is it Henaraja Thailaya (Oil to avoid bieng stuck by lightning) inside it? As he had to be with the animal right throughout, we have to sympathise with his behaviour for being different to a normal sane human being.

They are very scared of the mahouts. For every simple fault of theirs, the goad is being used and injures the animal’s buttocks or legs. I have seen some animals with goad wounds bleeding. Sometimes I wonder, why cruelty to animals do not apply to these pachyderms by animal lovers. Is it because that they are supposed to be looked after well by mahouts or captured animals are being owned by high priests of the Temples or by highly affordable personnel in the country?

Always mahouts have a cane in their hands .The thrashing them very often is very common. When the animals get thrashings they only blink and do not have a way for them to show dissent. Sometimes, you may have heard of ‘Alikaraya’, ‘Aliya wisinma marala’. (Mahout being killed by the elephant). Is it due to the ferocious attitude of the animal? No, a high percentage is due to the callous behaviours of the mahouts.

The ‘Panamure eth rajah’ (leading elephant) at the ‘Panamure Krall’ who had come forward for the defence of the entire elephants in that jungle was shot at. The holding of ‘kralls’ was prohibited in the island thereafter.

Some years back, an elephant had gone berserk at a Kandy Perahera. There was pandemonium, the crowd panicked and some innocent people were trampled to death. The particular elephant was shot at in a lane.

M. D. T. Devendra relates an interesting story under the headline ‘The Pope’s elephant’ In his book ‘A fiery Finale’ about the gift of an elephant to the Pope five hundred years ago by the Sinhala King Buwanekabahu of Kotte. Our elephant was christened Solomon and the name of the Mahout Subaya was dubbed Subbro in that country," possibly easier on Portuguese tongues"

Elephants are shot at when they come to villages in search of salt (Is it?), now. When their habitat is encroached, they intrude into the villages. Shot guns (or ‘galkattas’) that are in possessions of villagers for their safety and in some cases with the ‘Hakkapatas’, the animals are killed. Strap guns too are used by some. Some of them, accidently knocked down by trains along the Jaffna, Trinco or Batticaloa lines.

Unfortunately, infants too have come to the scene in the elephant trade. Some foreigners who had come to the island killed elephants in thousands during the good old days, then one good day, the future generation would remember a species called elephants that had been in existence in the island.

May I be permitted to relate an incident I faced when I was a small boy of about 10 years? An elephant that had come to my village, Narampanawa, (a village about 20 km. from Kandy), was drawing some logs. The elephant was going for a bath to the river with the mahout. My father was known to him (the mahout). He had a friendly chat with my father and said, "Daha Aliya" some words in elephant language to the elephant. Then the elephant raised his left foot. The mahout directed with his stick to me in hand, to climb on to the animal’s back. The elephant started walking along the road with me on his back. I was highly thrilled when I saw my younger brother and my village friends running behind the elephant. A village damsel with a bundle of paddy hay over her head was standing along the road to give way to the animal. The mahout showing a very cordial friendship with her, murmured something, made a grin towards her, and said some words in the elephant language to the animal. The girl put down the bundle. As the elephant bent his front feet to raise the bundle I started to scream. I got into a panic that I would fall and that I would be crushed by the elephant. The mahout tried his best to pacify me.

The Diyawadana Nilame had made a statement recently that he had found it difficult to get local tuskers to parade on either sides of the tusker Indi Rajah (donated by India) that carry holy relics on his back while parading in the Perahera, due to an animosity shown by the either side Sri Lankan tuskers. How can these tuskers know that Buddhism and the Tooth Relic are gifts to us from India?

"Failed State for the Forest, it will be failed state in the City, Soon

For every human killed there are four to five elephants killed.
This is deliberate killing.
They grow hashish cordoned by bogus vegetable gardens with political patronage.
For hashish is worth more than the life of an innocent elephant.
All these haapen after the war.
Forest officers have no excuse.
They are actually part of the problem with thier association with corrupt politicians.

In ballot rigging the official calling is "We had a Field Day".

In forest digging, it has to be changed "We had a Forest Day".

That is my addition to English vocabulary.

Sri-Lanka is a "Failed State for the Forest, it will be failed state in the City, soon.

Even LTTE was sensitive to needs of the elephants.

Rate of killing has gone from 175 to 225.

Human-Elephant conflicts

August 11, 2014, 7:31 pm

Managing Trustee

Biodiversity & Elephant Conservation Trust

The conflict between humans and elephants in Sri Lanka is not only a wildlife problem but also a major socio-economic and political issue. Crop losses and property damage from elephant raiding has become a major socio-economic issue in a larger part of the dry zone and in the south.

In spite of continued and extensive efforts over the past few decades, by all concerned, especially the Department of Wildlife Conservation, human-elephant conflicts have increased in severity and become more widespread.

The human-elephant conflict situation has emerged as a result of many factors such as reduction of forest cover, planned and unplanned land based development activities, and the demand for land from a steadily increasing human and elephant population during the past few decades.

Another factor is that currently in Sri Lanka, over 70% of wild elephants live outside the Protected Areas set up by the Department of Wildlife Conservation.

Annually, 50-60 people and over 225 elephants are killed as a result of this conflict. The deaths of elephants are due to willful killing by humans whereas some humans are killed due to their carelessness and bravado.

In the context of human-elephant conflicts we must remember that the changing economic situation on the death of the bread winner means that the other spouse or an older child has to find means to generate income for the affected family. Going to school becomes a problem to the children of the families.

The Department has not fully focused its attention to the planned removal of elephants from developed areas where their presence leads to continuous negative interactions with people. This has been one of the main causes for the escalation of human – elephant conflicts. The department has resorted mainly to ‘fighting fires’ in that they react to a problem when it surfaces through the media or major objections from the effected villagers.

Two of the methods adopted by the Department of Wildlife Conservation to mitigate HEC has been to (1) remove elephants from outside the Protected Areas by driving the elephants to other locations and (2) to tranquilize, capture and transport individual ‘trouble causing’ male elephants to Protected Areas.

Monitoring of herds restricted to Protected Areas carried out by researches has shown that most young die of starvation and that reproduction and recruitment decreases, making these so called ‘successful’ drives extremely detrimental to elephant conservation. Elephants are restricted to Protected Areas where in most instances the food available becomes inadequate for both the old residents and the newcomers.

Elephant Drives have never been successful in eliminating elephants totally from an area in that most adult males and some herds remain. These elephants that remain lose any fear that they may have had for humans and become even more aggressive and dangerous. They retaliate to any attempts to drive them away when raiding crops and show an increased propensity to move into human habitations. This naturally leads to increased conflicts.

Adult males trans-located by capture and transport do not remain in the PAs where they are released. Some return to the capture site, some wander over great distances in a confused state, some create worse conflict in surrounding areas and some settle in Forest Department areas

outside the Wildlife Departments Protected Areas. One such translocated elephant was found swimming in the sea off Trincomalee and had to be dragged ashore by divers from the Navy.

It has been proved time and again that elephant drives and translocations are not effective in the attempt to mitigate HEC but the Department of Wildlife Conservation persist in carrying out this as a strategy.

A new approach in mitigating HEC and conserving elephants is absolutely necessary. A ‘National Policy for the Conservation and Management of Wild Elephants’ was formulated by the government in 2006, with the assistance of an expert committee and adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers. A document titled ‘Human-Elephant Conflict Mitigation and preventing its Escalation’ was submitted to HE the President in 2010. This too was prepared by an expert committee. However, no action has been taken to adopt the decisions and recommendations contained in these two documents.

The main thrust of the new strategies that have been suggested in the second report is;

1. Removal of all elephants from developed areas. Where ‘developed areas’ are identified as permanent human settlements and crop lands at a relevant scale for management. This will in effect limit elephants to Elephant Conservation Areas (ECA).

2. Effective prevention of elephants entering developed areas by the installment and effective maintenance of electric fences along the boundary between ECAs and developed areas.

3. Recognition of chena areas as Managed Elephant Ranges (MER) with effective regulation of chena cultivation and provision of communities in MERs with economic benefits linked to elephant conservation including reasonable compensation of losses due to elephants. This has to be carried through pragmatic compensation insurance schemes.

4. Minimizing elephant depredation in Managed Elephant Reserves by the removal of ‘Problem elephants’.

5. Improving basic needs (Water sources and managed secondary forests) for the wild elephants inside the PAs will help to keep them inside.

Advantages to Sri Lanka in effective elephant management

* Implementing a system of Elephant Conservation Areas (ECAs) and Managed Elephant Reserves (MERs) will allow Sri Lanka to continue to maintain the current population of Asian elephants. This population represents over 10% of the global population of Asian elephants at a density that is very much higher than in other Countries.

* Currently Sri Lanka provides the best opportunities of viewing wild Asian elephants in the world. This is an as yet untapped market and can provide a significant and sustainable source of income to the Country.

* It is only in Sri Lanka that one can view the largest land mammal (elephants at Minneriya) and the largest marine mammal (Whales at Trincomalee) within two hours.

* Sri Lanka can gain much economic benefit by promoting tourism based on elephant viewing and their coexistence with humans. Currently only a small number of tourists visit Sri Lanka for its wildlife, but Sri Lanka has the potential to be the premier wildlife tourist destination in Asia and elephants are an ideal ‘flagship species’ to achieve this.

* Successful mitigation of HEC will provide relief from a burning socio-economic and political issue that is also a significant obstacle to alleviating rural poverty.

* In addition, through developing a system of effective mitigation of HEC and conserving elephants, Sri Lanka can provide a unique example and leadership to the world, of how a potentially dangerous and large wild animal can be managed in the midst of humans, based on the virtues of respect for life and tolerance which are cornerstones of Sri Lankan culture and religion

Mahela and Sangha

From, Saturday, June 25, 2011

This is a tribute to Mahela.
Sanga is includued by default

I was listening to BBC radio and listening to cricket and I had to give up editing (I was doing a blog piece on ABiWord) and went down to my son's room and peo TV was blocked for (cricket from UK) then I had to make my wife to move out to answer a call to get to the digital TV (Capture card) and tune into Eye Channel and was able see to Mahela's mastery.

Take my word, they are the modern version of Rohan Kanhaie and Kallicherran of yesteryear, West Indies.

This I said long time ago when they were young.

I will not miss a match when Mahela is on song.

Sanga should learn a lesson or two from Mahela.

West Indies cricketers who are young and never seen the two classy players mentioned above should watch Mahela and Sanga play limited over games and believe that they can produce high class players (there problem is batting once Lara was gone).

The difference in the above two players West Indian players as opposed to Sri-Lankan players were they always played to their potential, every time they came to the crease, limited or not.

I never missed them when they came to Colombo on short visits (including great Westly Hall, Greenich and Griffith and I think Lance Gibbs was the spinner).

Sorbers I have not seen playing live.

There is a documentary on West Indian cricket of yesteryear produced by a cricket loving Englishman.

Everybody who is a cricket lover should see that documentary including West Indians.

Without them cricket will be dead the way Indians cronies (not players) not West Indian who are marketing cricket, like tooth paste and soap opera (Bollywood style).

I hope west Indies stop fighting and play gentleman cricket and beat India who has become too big for comfort for any cricket (IPL included.)

They actually gave Indian a wake up call and scare.

If not for Dravid, the Wall (a real mature cricketer of class, whom I like very much) I will be rubbing salt on their woulds.

Dravid was one player who was very badly treated by Indian Cricket Selectors, who thinks that any Indian who can play soft ball cricket can represent India.

Now that Kersten is gone like in Sri-lanka (political involvement) all the cronies will get in to ruin Indian Cricket Board and ICC.

Postscript
What, I have said in 2011, is coming true and India is reaping the benefit of its Money and IPL.
There are no classy players like Dravid in the Indian tea.
Sunil Gavaskar and Forrok Engineer are lamenting NOW.
Too late.
Money corrupts, especially one is an Asian (Sri-Lankan included).
Sri-Lanka is the most corrupt (outside cricket) in Asia now with Chinese connection (we have overtaken India) and almost 50% of the circulating currency is black money.
Even baby elephants are not spared and sitting judges reap benefits.
It is claimed, forged currency is printed out, ad hoc and circulated through back door and temples to the Central bank.

Myth about Android and Linux

The Iso tested was not Google's but from an independent Developer.

Chih-Wei Huang has announced the release of Android-x86 4.4, an unofficial port of Google's Android mobile operating system to Intel and AMD x86 processors: "Android-x86.org is glad to announce the 4.4-r1 release to public. This is the first stable release Android-x86 4.4 (KitKat-x86). The 4.4-r1 release is based on the Android 4.4.2 (KitKat-MR1) release. We have fixed and added x86-specific code to let the system run smoothly on x86 platforms, especially on tablets and netbooks. The key features include: integrate FFmpeg as the stagefright plugin to support more multimedia files; use the latest long-term stable kernel, version 3.10.52, with more drivers enabled, most netbooks can run Android-x86 in the native resolution; OpenGL ES hardware acceleration for AMD Radeon and Intel chipsets; enhance the installer to support upgrade from previous versions..

Myth about Android and Linux

Reason for writing this is, I downloaded Android iso today and ran it on my old computer.

Earlier versions did not work as a Linux distribution but this worked on VESA MODE.
Mind you, I am guy who never uses a Mobile phone and won't bother to test it either on a mobile.
Rest assured it will work on any mobile which is not locked in by firmware.
From the time Android came in my craze was to test it on a 686 computer.
Finally I can say, I can.
Earlier Kernels probably were mini Kernels and this is OK but won't pass as robust as Peppermint.
Thank you Google for your efforts.
Your mini applications are one of the best light weight applications.
I hope, one day you produce a Kernel just similar to Privatix or Tails for guys in this part of the world (where government goons are eavesdropping on freedom of speech) where political or freedom of speech is hindered.
Just to browse anonymously.
Not for dirty work but to keep “Connectivity Intact” and freedom of speech is not hindered or monitored.
The world is a small place NOW and Google has made it possible to connect.

Thank God, it is because, Linux (Linus, Stallman, Parfitt, Haddock and many others) and Free Software.

Certainly not due to Apple and Microsoft.

I have reproduced an article by Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols here.

He is one writer who writes with full academic credentials.
I like him very much.
His articles are available on Google.
He loves Linux as much as I do.
I have removed hyperlinks except for Richard Stallman and ASOP (Android)

Myth 1.

Google Services define Android.

Google Services are very handy. Maps, Gmail, Google Drive, Calendar, and Search are all great, but you don't have to use them. Android is a fine mobile operating system in its own right, with its built-in home screen launcher; contacts directory; dialer and phone app; and camera and gallery. You can, if you want to, add your own services to it.
Indeed, that's exactly what has happened in China. There, 270-million Android users use Android, but, thanks in part to China and Google's continuing feud, 70 percent of them don't use Google services.
Part of the confusion about services-and-platform tie-ins is that we're moving from a device-centric computing world to a cloud and services-based one. When people look at a device, they still see it as a standalone thing. That's often no longer the case. Instead, no matter who made it or what runs on it, the hardware is simply the endpoint for a variety of cloud services. That doesn't change the nature of the operating system, but it does change the user experience.
Each device has its preferred service provider: Microsoft for Windows; Apple for iOS; Google for Android; and so on. At the same time, each is usually open to other services, thanks to HTML5, and other development tools that trump native apps and services.

Myth 2.

Android is not open source.

Yes, yes it is.
You can take Android Open Source Project (AOSP) code today and make your own version of Android today. If you want to, you can even take a page from CyanogenMod's book and make an Android that works with multiple devices instead of being tied to one vendor's smartphones and tablets.
Contrary to Edelman's claims, you can also build commercially viable operating systems off Android without Google Mobile Service (GMS) apps. Or, at least, you can try to. That's exactly what Mozilla is doing with Firefox OS. And, Canonical's Ubuntu Touch started out using CyanogenMod Android for its foundation.
Indeed, it still uses Android during its initial boot up.
software" by Richard M. Stallman's definition, but it's open enough for all practical purposes.

Myth 3.

Google charges licensing fees for Google Mobile Services.

No, they don't. A Google representative said, "Such stories are inaccurate. Google does not charge licensing fees for Google Mobile Services (GMS).
We will not be commenting further."
Other sources, from major Android device manufacturers, agreed.
One top Android smartphone and tablet vendor told me, "The Guardian story's just wrong."
That's not to say there isn't a fee to create "official" Android devices with GMS. Sources both at Google and Android OEMs confirm that Google charges no fee per se, Google does require devices to be certified; and the factories that do this certification do require a fee.
This certification fee varies from vendor to vendor, device to device, and from one version of Android to another. At the end of the accounting day, it appears to average about 75 cents to a dollar per shipped device. No one, however, would confirm this amount on the record. There is, however, no licensing fee per se.

Myth 4.

Android isn't Linux.

Come on, folks! It's always been Linux.
I think this is the source of the recurring misconception:
In 2010, a Google engineer put his foot in his mouth and said that Android isn't Linux.
There were some technical differences which kept Android out of the main Linux tree for a while, but they were resolved.
Even at the height of the conflict, Android was still based on Linux.
By March 2012, Android and Linux were re-merged into a single operating system.
I can't imagine that the two will ever fork again, not in any way, shape, or form.
What it all means in sum is that Android is indeed an open-source operating system and that anyone—yes, even you — can use it as the basis for their own devices, applications, and services.
As such, it's more open than Apple or Microsoft's mobile operating systems, and it's only significant open-source competitors, are — oh the irony — were actually built on AOSP.
