Prehistory of Ceylon

Current Ceylon history is a cooked up version with lot of gaps.

 

It does not say anything about the period between 5000 to 10,000 years ago even though evidence is there to suggest that there were prehistoric man living 125,000 years ago.

 

The ancient evidence was deliberately torched to ash to establish the ownership of the new invaders or migrates.

 

The Vijaya Clan who were deported from India.

I have developed rudimentary theory to explains the three peneplains of Ceylon.\

 

My belief is that three or four (evidence are there in our moon) meteorites hit the large land mass called Ceylon (completely separate from Indian land mass) even before the formation of oxygen in the atmosphere.

The subsequent oxygen atmosphere later eroded the evidence of meteorite hits.

Never believe the written (modern) history is my way of looking at reality which is submerged with lot of crap.

Ceylon Prehistoric Data
 

Millions and millions of years ago, the continents of Antarctica, Australia, Africa, South America, and India formed a single landmass, situated somewhere near Antarctica.

This landmass, named Gondwanaland, then broke up.
 

India with Ceylon and Madagascar attached moved upward into Asia.
 

My theory proposes a different context to the above mentioned statements.
 

Today, India and Ceylon stand on the same ocean shelf. 

The continental shelf has an average width of about 12 miles around the island, where the mean depth of water is only about 200 feet, beyond which there is an abrupt drop to 3000 feet roughly two miles from the shore. Within 10 miles it drops further to 6000 feet and eventually plunging deep to 18,000 feet.
 

About 12 million years ago, Ceylon started to separate from the Indian subcontinent due to fluctuations in the sea level. 

Siran Deraniyagala says that the sea level would have dropped down at least 17 occasions within the last 700,000 years.
 

The last separation from India would have occurred about 10,000 years ago.
 

During the Stone Age, Ceylon was linked to India by a wide land bridge across Palk Strait.
Today, the sea is barely 100 feet deep in the Palk Strait due to limestone deposition.
Prehistoric data are rudimentary in our context and a global picture cannot be made from the available archaeological data.
There are many reasons but for completeness, sake I would briefly mention only a few.
 

Number one is we never had the scientific inclination to record events accurately. 

The period before 2500 years is only a folklore and romantic tales of many inaccuracies.
 

The prehistoric man probably lived in caves.
They had to share these caves with the big cats, if there were any.
 

It was probably the battle between the man and the beast.
Probably the man won most of the battles due to their shear numbers and the winning outcome provided meat for subsistence.
 

When the last of the colonizers arrived from India, there would have been pitch battles which were deliberately deleted from our history books.
 

Probably our real ancestors retreated and few probably survived as Vaddhas in the jungles and caves.
 

The colonizers probably brought in diseases with them including small pox, which would have wiped out many natives (almost to extinction). 

 
I have some reservation about the current Veddhas.
 

There is hardly any difference from the main race except their rudimentary language. I believe they were drifters from the main stream who preferred hunting as opposed to rigidly imposed Buddhist way of life.
Then of course some of the Buddhist monks with the inclination for meditation practice occupied most of the accessible caves as their birth right.
 

They of course destroyed any evidence of or any remnants of prehistoric life for good. These monks feared demons (not Ravana descendants), in these caves and torched all the remaining bones left by the prehistoric man. 

Really deliberate vandalism by the invaders.

Another conjecture here is that most of the caves of prehistoric importance have taken the name of Alu Lena meaning caves with ash. What it means may be that the prehistoric evidence were torched to ashes before converting them to temples by the occupants (mostly Buddhist monks).
I am puzzled why the new colonizers, the rulers, monks and civilians destroyed these artifacts.
One possibility was that they were scared of the demons in these caves and pulverized everything that was prehistoric.
 

I do not want to believe that scenario since Buddhist monks have Pirith or vocal recitals to protect them.
 

I am inclined to believe the destruction of any artifacts left, going back to 10,000 years was a deliberate act to conceal or suppress the unwritten history probably, the most intense warfare in Ceylonese history, the ancient man had with the new visitors from India.
 

They would have left bony evidence of violence and multiple fractures and pulverizing them to ashes was the only option left for the victors.
When the colonizers of the West came in 2000 years later they did not have any on record of the ancient man to write about.
 

The archaeological collections I have extracted from various sources are stated below.
One must take them with a pinch of salt. I have come to the conclusion that majority of Archaeologists were deliberate cheats or fantasy makers.
 

The interpretations, if not biased may be largely exaggerated.
They are not my interpretations.

My Interpretations
 
However, I would like to go back to my theory of the Origin of Ceylon with some slant to the prehistoric findings.
There were evidence of sea shells found in the interior of the country such as Kitulgala (2000 feet above sea level) and Balangoda (2000 to 3000 feet above sea level) plain.
If I repeat the three uplifts of the landmass of Ceylon, it would appear that present Kitulgala and Balangoda would have been under sea water many million years ago.
 

The first peneplain formed after the original uplift due to the meteorite hit remained at 500 to 1000 feet.
This is probably the current lower plains of the coastal region from sea to the foothills.
The second uplift contributed another 1000 to 2000 feet making the second peneplain at a level of 1500 to 2500 feet. 

Kandyan Plateau at a higher level and Balangoda Plateau at a lower level.
The third or fourth uplift made the hills in the middle of the country with rugged peneplain that rose up to 8000 feet forming mountain ranges.
What it mean is that the final and the massive uplift due to the last meteorite contributed 4000 to 5000 feet of height to the landmass.
 

Now Kitulgala is around 2000 feet above sea level which is close to Ginigathhena Gap through which the road enters the hill country. This region could have been under water before second uplift of the landmass. 

The second uplift would have brought the seabed with it sea shells up and some of which got trapped between the two peneplains.
 

Kitulgala and Balangoda are located in the border zone where the gaps that leads to the upcountry are formed due to erosion.
Of course Ginigathhena was where the trade passed through from the coast to the upcountry. 

Any trader would have brought sea shells there. 

That is the explanation given by the archaeologists (see below).
My counter argument is by the time the sea shells were brought in from the sea (unless very well preserved) they would be rotten (once in Kitulgala).
Far better one eats them where they originated, in the coastal zone, instead of trading with the hill country folks.
 

Of course sea salt was one ingredient that came up through the pass even in the prehistoric time (for preserving food).

The word Bellan in Sinhala means shells.
The word Alu means ashes.
 

Archaeological excavations indicate that there were prehistoric settlements in Ceylon about 300,000 or even 500,000 years ago. 

There is firm evidence at present that there were prehistoric settlements in Ceylon about 127,000 years ago. 

The evidence comes from excavations in coast of Bundala, at Patirajawela, and Wellegangoda. 

Settlements of the prehistoric period, known as the Stone Age, dating between 125,000-1000 BCE, have been found at Pidurangala, Patana, Dambulla and Mapagala. 

Settlements of the proto-historic period known as the early Iron Age, dating from 1000-500 BCE have emerged at Ibbankatuwa and Pansalgodella. 

Other possible sites for early iron age settlements are Kadurugoda, Mantota, and Kelaniya.

 

Problem is these Muslim fanatics who believe in 2500 years history deliberately destroy archeological facts specially in Ampara and Mannar.
 

People first settled in the coastal zones, and then moved up to fertile tracts and to locations, in the central hills where there were mineral resources.
Evidence of settlements could be found in Kitulgala, Karadupone and Ravana Ella, all entry points to the hills.
 

The central hills were mined for gems in the prehistoric period. 

There are remnants of camps, and caves in the wet zone. The camps were small, suggesting occupation by not more than a couple of nuclear families at most. Almost all were close to a stream or spring or were at the confluence of the tributaries with the main river. The network of footpaths that link the existing Purana villages today, pass through most of the sites identified. So it is possible that many of these footpaths were in existence during early times. The earliest villages may have been about 3 hectares each.
The occurrence of marine shells at inland sites such as Batadomba Lena (Diva Guhava) points to an extensive network of contacts (Batandomba lena is a pre historic cave system in Sudagala, 5 km away from the town of Kuruwita) between the coast and the hinterland. 

There is evidence from Belilena that salt had been brought in from the coast at a date more than 32,000 years ago.
The earliest form of cultivation was chena and kurakkan was the earliest food. 

Kurakkan came here in 10,000 BCE. 

It is a very hardy grain and was used as a substitute for rice.
There were many varieties of kurakkans.
 

Rice cultivation can be seen from about 250 BCE. 

Wetland rice cultivation in its early form was an indigenous development.
Excavations at Fa Hien Lena near Bulathsinhala, Batadomba lena, near Kuruwita, Belilena, at Kitulgala.

 Belilena is a famous large cave in Sri Lanka. 

It is located 8 km from the town of Kitulgala. 

It holds evidence of a lost generation of Sri Lankans some 12,000 years old.

Alu lena at Attanagoda near Kegalle, Bellan Bandi Palassa near Embilipitiya and Bandarawela, provided information on the early settlers and their habitat.
Fragmentary remains of an extinct race of Neanderthal Man were found. 

Fa Hien Lena yielded the earliest evidence of anatomically modern man in South Asia.
He was labeled Balangoda Man.
Balangoda Man was at an estimated height of 174 cm for males and 166 for females. The bones were robust, with thick skull bones. The teeth were conspicuously large. Balangoda Man appears to have settled practically every nook and comer of Ceylon ranging from the damp and cold high plains such as Maha Eliya (Horton Plains) to the and lowlands of Mannar and Wilpattu and the equatorial rain forests of Sabaragamuwa.
The camps were invariably small thus suggesting occupation by not more than a couple of nuclear families at most. They have eaten a very wide range of food plants and animals. 

They ate wild breadfruit and wild bananas.
They have gobbled up every conceivable animal, from elephants to snakes, rats, snails and small fish. 

Tortoises and terrapins probably had been consumed. 

The diet has been well balanced judging by the robust skeletal remains.
Balangoda man, like stone age man elsewhere, had succeeded in domesticating the dog, about 7500 years ago.
Remains of early iron age man had been found in just one site, Pomparippu. The biological anthropology of this Early Iron Age man is different to that of Balangoda Man.
Fossils of animals and plants from the Jurassic period (I have my doubt about dating this far into 65 million years) have been found at Tabbowa wewa. 

Fossil bones of rhinoceros were found in Ratnapura. Tigers inhabited Ceylon about 135,000 years ago. Their bones and teeth were found at Batadomba Lena recently. Fossils of hippopotamus, the ridge browed elephant, the Asian elephant, the buffalo, the gaur, (The gaur, Bos gaurus, also called Indian bison, is the largest extant bovine, native to South Asia and Southeast Asia) and the rhinoceros have also emerged.
The island appears to have been colonized by the Balangoda Man (named after the area where his remains were discovered) prior to 34,000. 

They have been identified as a group of Mesolithic hunter gatherers who lived in caves.
Fa Hien Cave has yielded the earliest evidence (at 34,000 years) of anatomically modern humans in South Asia.
Several of these caves including the well known Batadombalena and the Fa Hien Cave have yielded many artifacts that points to them being the first modern inhabitants of the island. There is evidence from Beli-lena that salt had been brought in from the coast earlier than 27,000 years.
Several minute granite tools of about 4 centimeters in length, earthenware and remnants of charred timber, and clay burial pots that date back to the Stone Age Mesolithic people who lived 8,000 years ago have been discovered during recent excavations around a cave at Varana Raja Maha vihara and also in Kalatuwawa area.
The skeletal remains of dogs from Nilgala cave and from Bellanbandi Palassa, dating from the Mesolithic era, about 4500 BCE, suggest that Balangoda People may have kept domestic dogs for driving game. 

The Ceylon hound is similar in appearance to the Kadar Dog, the New Guinea Dog and the Dingo. It has been suggested that these could all derive from a common domestic stock. It is also possible that they may have domesticated jungle fowl, pig, water buffalo and some form of Bos (possibly the ancestor of the Ceylonese cattle which became extinct in the 1940s).

The Balangoda Man appears to have been responsible for creating Horton Plains, in the central hills, by burning the trees in order to catch game. However, evidence from the plains suggests the incipient management of Oats and Barley by about 15,000 BCE.

The transition in Ceylon from the Mesolithic to the Iron Age has not been adequately documented.
 

A human skeleton found at Godavaya in the Hambantota district, provisionally dated back to 3000 - 5000 BCE was accompanied by tools of animal bone and stone.

Iron Age
A large settlement appears to have been founded before 900 BCE at the site of Anuradhapura where signs of an Iron Age culture have been found. The size of the settlement was about 15 hectares at the beginning but it expanded to 50 hectares, to a 'town' size within a couple of centuries.
A similar site has been discovered at Aligala in Sigiriya.

History and Prehistory of Lanka

I am more interested in prehistory since we now possess tools to go beyond 10,000 years of history.

Both genetic and radioactive tools are available.

What we are lacking is materials or specimens of significance.

Let me dish out the written history to begin with.

 

It dates back to only about 2500 years or so.

Even the Bible writing extends the mankind's existence to 7200 years or so.

 

Both Bible and Koran are not old enough to study human existence in a scientific sense.

 

Both were anti-scientific and religious dogmas thought to be sacrosanct.

 

They are no longer not sacrosanct in scientific sense.

 

Let me come to Lanka and forget the rest of the world.

 

Our Buddhist monks (Mahanama to begin with) cleverly erased the prehistory of Lanka and introduced a mythical history of 5000 years to Lanka.

How the name Lanka came I do not know but I feel it means an island.

 

I have devised a hypothesis that Lanka was a much bigger island which went under water due to at least three or four meteoritic hits that devastated mother earth including the Jurassic extinction story.

This country has at least series of three (fourth is under water due to the effect of sea erosion) uplifts according to Adam's and Wardia.

If we had prehistoric man evolving in this massive land the meteorites send them to oblivion except a traces in the north part of the island left after the series of meteorites hits.

 

Moon landing has recovered at least evidence dating back to 4.6 and 1.6 million light years (evidence).

 

Moon does not have an atmosphere to destroy evidence but earth atmosphere destroys all the cosmic evidence of meteorites.

 

We have to collect traces from the space which the current space scientists are exploring.

 

Going back to Lanka for the last 5000 years this country was known for its immense population of elephants.

 

Indian elephants were driven to almost extinction to by Roman War efforts.

 

They probably migrated here from India and survived since local indigenous population were not hostile to them.

 

They were mainly in the hill country and the British drove them to the dry land due to hunting and expansion of the tea and coffee plantations.

 

There were at least three prehistoric humans dating back to 125000 years in and around this island.

 

According to my hypothesis they also migrated from Indian subcontinent or Africa.

 

Any existing ones were destroyed by the last meteorite hit, 65 million year ago (Jurassic extinction).

 

So the last 5000 years visitors came here to capture elephants.

 

Mind you, all my theories end up with elephants and their plight to current day.

 

In fact, I dig into prehistory because of my interest in elephants not because I want to become a prehistoric historian.

 

It was a marathon effort since finding data was extremely difficult.

 

So, Vijaya migration was also one of those elephant expedition went expeditiously wrong for both elephants and indigenous traces of man who inhabited Lanka.

 

Our Buddhist monks erased our prehistory to ashes and build “Alu Lenas all over Lanka.

 

For 5000 years this country was plundered of natural history and a modern history dating back to 2500 years was transplanted.

 

My grouse with Paranavithana and Deraniygala is that they never were true archaeologists (they narrowed their sphere of activity to 2500 years, the legacy left behind by Buddhist monks).

 

So, instead of rewriting our Mahayana or Ramayana history there is LOT left to be explored in this country in scientific sense.

 

There are lot of gaping holes.

 

The exit of British from this country was a true scientific loss since their traditions were not followed after our political independence.

Our politicians including dead and moribund leftists were rank stupid and ignited an ethnic war still simmering under the ashes which our history is famous far.

 

They think by turning things to ashes the truth can be kept hidden for ever.

 

There is always microscopic, forensic and genetic evidence left behind to explore.

Bananas

 

Bananas 

Banana a day keeps keep you healthy.

Pair it with yogurt that add the correct amount of proteins makes you even healthy.

As kids we had the habit of peeling off the fiber part of the skin before eating the sweet fleshy stuff afterward. It has lot of nutrients and fiber. 

Beware.

Banana is treated with many chemicals along the way and like the chicken that lives longer in the fridge can be contaminated. 

Washing gently with water is the solution.

A lot do not know from which end to peel it off. 

Top end is the right way.

Putting the banana in the fridge may make the skin go brown but it does not spoil the inside.

Putting it in the fridge is a mistake.

Wrap them individually and let them ripe one after the other. 

It is a Japanese method well tested.

One banana a day is enough.

Eat them in between meals.

Banana is naturally alkaline and reduce stomach acidity. 

Do not mix with acidic citrus fruits. 

I avoid or eat citrus fruits when overripe.

Acid in citrus eats into the enamel of the teeth with old age. 

Protect your teeth till old age is my advice.

Banana is an ideal treatment for constipation. 

One a day is enough

Do not eat too many.

They add natural flavour to smoothies.

I have skipped many other facts.  

 

It has lot of different sugars and adding cane sugar is the biggest mistake. 

These different sugars are  released in a staggered manner and keep the blood sugar stable. 

One does not feel hungry and one may be able to skip a meal.

 

One busy working days in the university, I skipped the lunch and survived on milk and bananas. 

 

I have become a "One Meal a day" man to this day.

Hunter gatherer survived on one meal. 

We can feed more hungry kids in the world.

Three meals a day is very unhealthy. Changing this habit has to be gradual.

The rich Ceylon, Tea kept me alert. 

Tea has lot of antioxidants.

Banana Bread at Mesna Tea (instead of cheese cakes) Center was later addition.

I miss Mesna Tea.

By the way, NPP/JVP have gone bananas and there are lot more slippery dealing behind the corridors of power which the citizenry is not aware of.

Lions and Snow Leopards

Ever heard Lions and Snow Leopards living in the same home.
 

In Ceylon Lions and Leopards live in such close proximity and in harmony only a terrorist can drive them mad.
I hear they cannot simply because they are proprietary products from Apple Mac.
 

Some time ago I wanted to write something about Apple Computer and write a Final Cut but for no reason I could not.
 

It was a very fortunate lapse on my part and had I done that I may have to eat every word of my short piece.
 

The other day I happen to walk into Kandy Super Market and I saw something very similar to Pinguy Linux and drop into see who is promoting Linux in Kandy.
 

I was wrong and it was a posh Apple Mac Store but I could not see any iPods.
 

All the computers had Snow Leopard but not the Lion roaring. 

It looks like they are dishing out the last remains of Snow Leopards on unsuspecting but rich customers.

Just yesterday I posted and updated today that one can install four Linux distribution in over 2 and half hours and make them cohabit but unfortunately Snow Leopard and Lion can hardly ever cohabit in the same computer.

The trouble one has to go to install (which has two disks) Snow Leopard on Lion computer, only and expert can do that also on has two apple computers side by side with firmware attachment.

This guy who is a keen photographer wanted to transfer some photographic stuff from a camera and his old camera was not supported by the new Lion.

But if he gives his video to me I can convert them to many formats using ArtistX or AV Linux.
 

This poor guy, metaphorically of course (who is poor who cannot afford a new Apple computer) should learn some Linux before he gets older like me.

Banana Logic

Banana Logic 

 
I gave up banana watching few years ago when the price of a single banana (not a bunch) went up beyond my purse but kept on practicing Banana Logic to the core which I learned from the politicians of this Banana Republic.

It is a very simple logic.

Take no responsibility of the events and consequences and tame the masses with slippery excuses and logic.
Latest is the flood in Batti’coloa and the government’s inability to provide relief and not even believing that the masses are suffering untold hardships. Not only they slip the responsibility to weather gods but exaggerate the loss to the vegetation (not people) especially with very accurate number of paddy fields lost from air conditioned offices in Colombo without ever visiting the flood victims or the area under floods. They release statistics by the minute and they appear on Media and TV as Gullible Truths of the this century, which everybody knows even with aerial shot it is hard to estimate.

The devastation was more than the tsunami and it outlasted it by many weeks.
The tsunami was matter of hours but flood was a matter of weeks not days.
We of course capitalized on the political and economic fronts and the monetary benefit some got by promoting the disaster was fabulous to say the least.

Some by standers got rich leaps and bounds.

That is history.

But this time the paucity of the response and the inability to get even UNO involved was stark reminder that we cannot change the minds of the UNO officers trapped in glasshouses and in real frozen state to change their goals of undermining the underdogs in diplomacy since our antic delivering MPs spoiled soup of even the banana logic too much.

This essay is not on that banana logic spoiled by our own efforts and less said about it is better for our body politics which is in downward trend anyway.

This is about the mega bananas one sees in the supermarkets.

They are big and weight for weight expensive and I cannot believe that our soil has become rich in spite of overuse and the floods washing the top soil away.

I was very inquisitive in a scientific way.

It took few months to discover the truths that also did not come from the agrarian officers but from vendors.
It is a truth that one cannot harvest plantain vegetation for for than two years.
The soil gets absolutely drained off and one cannot grow anything else afterward.

In years gone by in Kandy bucket latrines were the vogue (now one has to pay 10 rupees for a piss in a city mall) the the contents of the buckets were loaded in Guhagoda (near Isolation Hospital) and covered with at least 4 feet of soil and were allowed to season out for 4 years and then leased out for growing banana.

The banana yield was the best in Kandy and they were of healthy size but not of the elephantine of today.

There is something amiss.

Not only they are big but the skin of the banana splits before ripening.
That is quite abnormal as if somebody has injected water (this can be done) under the skin.

My investigation reveal stark reality of that banana logic.

The bigger the size bigger the price and the economic weight.

What the growers do is that they inject UREA (contaminated with cadmium that causes kidney failure) into the flower stem to get them bigger.

Now I believe after the last UREA dose they even inject plain water dose to make them plump. With drug abusers are increasing in number in the country the thrown away plastic syringes are readily available anywhere including hospital dumps. I think even bizarre epidemics may emerge from eating these elephantine bananas. The water injected and the UREA injected are not sterilized.

They are raw contaminated water.

We were healthy eating bananas that came off nutritious from the nourishing off bucket latrines in Kandy yesteryear and not anymore.

My recommendation are
1. Do not pay for big bananas
2. If the skin is split do not buy them (sure sign of overdose)
3. Even supermarkets are suspicious of their dealing with the vendors
4. Buy a reputable product
5. Visit a banana plantation and see it for yourself
6. Taste before buying
7. Make pressure groups of customers
8. Invest on home garden
9. Invest on a bio-degrader container
10. Wash them thoroughly before eating (applies to all vegetables and fruits)
11. Do not put them in the fridge (many reasons including watching what happens to them)
12. Be vigilant
13. Do not buy cheap stuff (paw paw at 10 rupee/kg)
14. These are my observations and I can add many more but all of them are common sense practices.

In a country with chain of corrupt practices from grower to vender to super markets chains we are eating colossal amount of poisons everyday. The idea is to become rich and the poor customer is of no value to the Mudhalali and the Government (except just prior to an election).

90% of the fruits and vegetables are poisoned at various levels.

There is only perpetuation.

No remedy is available in sight or distant future.
It is only a money matter.

There is no controlling authority but corruption at all levels including food inspectors.

If one is eating poisons it is ones own responsibility and that is the the way the officials and government operate and look at the problem.

Good example is that government would not provide free medicine to drunkards (all of us are drunkards politically) and does not look at the root problem of drinking beahaviour.

If you look at the the liqueur bill of House of Parliament we can see where the root cause is.

This is somewhat similar to how we handled and handling ethnic issue.
There is absolutely no difference.

This is Sri- Lanka or SiR Lanka

 Kandy City in the Serendib

Clockwork precision is something lacking in this country in workman's skills as well as in time management.

I leaned it from my father and the colleague principal who taught me the basics of it and the value of it which I perfected it in the Western World.

In the Labour Era (not the current one that ended recently) which ended with Mr. Arther Scargill, Mr. Tony Ben, Mr.Ken Livingston and many other names that I forget workers were well organized and down to earth and work to precision in London and suburbs (with the inflow foreign migrants including from Eastern Block), this tradition of working according to clock and round the clock has slowly and surely disappeared, with conservative's sweeping role of market reforms and greed instead of welfare society, eroded to an extent that my decision to come back home was better option, than of becoming a Senior Citizen there shivering in cold winter expecting the summer to be sooner than late.

The British labour force maintained the British economy vibrant.

It is no better here for Senior Citizens except for politicians with clout.

The time and time management was ingrained in the minds of workers then.

Then came the goals, finishing targets and profits that ended up in stock market crisis.

Strangely now, Americans are talking about social welfare and they cannot achieve the targets of their choice in time frame before the elderly eventually succumbs to ill fate.

What I am writing is not about the time management mentioned above but about the clock itself.

That itself is not the grandfather clock but the tiny digital wrist watch of mine which I used for the the last 16 years.

Before that I must write a few of the stupidest things I have done.

The things I did before going abroad was more ridiculous.

Whenever, I go abroad the first thing I used to do is to buy the most expensive wrist watch I could afford somewhat like a status symbol (I once lost one of them but was able to claim insurance-that was the only time I had claimed insurance in spite of heavy premiums I paid) and when I leave again buy something bit expensive.

This has become a liability when I come home.

I used to hire a taxi from Kandy to Colombo for Rupees 600 those days and I had several favorite and good drivers to take me all round the country (I was true tourist not the stingy white skinned ones that come here for boys now) and when ever I leave the drivers ask me,

"Sir, Mata Oya Wage Orolosuwak Denna Barida; 

Sir Can you give me a wristwatch like what you wear".

One fine day I was in a good mood I gave it to the driver and told him it is expensive and take care.

This is the guy who used to take a famous films star around the country and he never got any presents for the film star guys.

He was happy and I was bit unhappy, to tell you the truth but overcame that attachment in good time.

When I came the next time he was very unhappy, the reason being his lodging was ransacked within a few months and he lost most of the valuables including the wrist watch I gave him.

This incident changed my outlook completely and from then onward I used to buy the most inexpensive (sometimes children's ones) for daily use and disposed all my other comparatively expensive wrist watches to whoever who had some liking for them (mostly relatives).

This change (buying the cheapest and not looking at it) was consolidated when Ms.Chandrika was the President and her clock work activity was in direct competition to that of mine for 11 years.

The story about my clock is very simple.

One of my cheap (not the cheapest - I had brought from abroad) watches stopped working.

I went to a watchmaker in Kandy who was very good and showed him the watch.

He looked at it and said nothing can be done.

I walked in, to buy a new one and he called me back and said he can put a circuit for Rupees 240.

I asked him how long will it last and does it keep the time correct.

Ten years without a problem and it is Korean one he said.

I obliged and it was working for the last 16 years except for the brief period of one month.

I was busy and yesterday I went to another shop to change the battery.

The inexperienced girl there checked the battery and said it is OK but the circuit was faulty.

I could not believe it.

I asked her to check it with a new battery.

Result was the same.

She fiddled with the contact points then called an older lady to help and she fiddled with it some more and put some anti-corrosion oil and said, nothing doing.

After all this I told them for 16 years this worked all right and I paid only rupees 240 and I cannot find my favorite watchmaker and I left saying that my eyesight is weak, otherwise I would have found what was wrong.

All in all I now made my own diagnosis.
It is mechanical and nothing but.
I came home late and I left the watch on the drawer but only after a little fiddling and thinking that I would attend to it sometime later.

So, I did find the time and fiddled with it and it is working now perfectly.
This is Sri - Lanka or SiR Lanka
This how Ceylonese operates.

Either the workman / work woman was / were not properly trained or they were trained to cheat.

I will not pass the judgment on this issue but only state that honesty has no place in this country.

The man who ran the shop with the honest watchmaker vanished within five years. The owner raised the rental and I never so him after that not even in the pavement.

This is the status of life in this Kandy City in the Serendib.

I am almost in my retirement I want the clock to stop lest I get older than now.

Fast forward, I am in Australia and I bought two  semi digital wrist watches for Rs.1600/= each and gave one to our domestic aid who sometimes comes late (she is a very busy woman).

She passed way recently due to lack of medicine in Ceylon.

I made sure the family got some cashew nut treat.

She was very good cooking jack fruit, bread fruit and Kiri Ala (Innala).

Global Warming, Floods and IT industry, any connection?

I was post postponing writing about global warming for sometime and it was related to bird watching (that will come soon) and not IT industry.

I predicted this 5 years ago (Flooding) and at that time every American Scientist, including Scientific American was skeptic but the email doctoring incident bared before the Earth Summit (in which only European Nation New Zealand and the former PM Helen Clark stood against that conviction) and all Scientists are in broad agreement now that global warming is taking shape in real time.

I never though the floods in Thailand would adversely effect the IT industry.

There is acute shortages of Hard drives and the supply will fall behind demand by over 6 months.

The best Christmas present one can give this time round is a good external hard drive..

I cannot go for a SSD but bought a SSD hard drive on loan since the vendor guys alerted me well in advance.

Even the computer manufacturing will come down and this will add to the HP Saga and it is supposed to be stockpiling hard drives (supposed to be ordered for PCs they discontinued producing) to make gain of the losses they had with tablets.

This is a strange world and one does not know which will hit you first (debt crisis or floods).

It is both in 2025 December. 

So don’t load your hard drives with videos and if you have money buy at least an external drive.

I had very close relatioship to Mahaveli Project before, during and after.

First of alI I am a medical guy in retirement with special interest in mother nature. I am not an engineer but had many engineering friends than medical.

I did some reading and research on Mahveli Project in my leisure time. 

I had diect association with the Engineers who directly contributed to the project from design stage.

To begin with, this is an outline and I am going by my meory. I had a one drawer full of documents and the big Map of the Surveyor Generol. I am now in Australia and I do not have the original material and maps. a

Before leaving Ceylon, I handed over the Surveyor General' Publication, to one of my kindergarten friends, whose obsession is to go and visit each and every remote village in this country. 

Unlike me he has been to most of the places devasted by the current tragedy. He must be more shocked than me.

 Background

1. We are known for flash fllods.

One cardinal theory of flood management is for every 100 years there going to be a flood that overtakes the previous worst by many a times.

I foget the parentages but it is many a times but let us imagine it is 30% worse the previous worst.

2. The corollary is that the flood plane has to be identified for the next worse episode and no construction should be allowed, blocking the drainage plane considered to be the next worst.

3. All the governments including the present goverment ignore this important presumptive fact.

We were fully under prepared.

4. If the volume excess water in any reservoir is considered to be in excess of the flood plane capacity,  that excess volume of water should be drained off well before any unitended catastrophe. 

This can be calculated in advance with a simple mathematical formula.

  

5. Water is a huge Potential Energy and has unfathomable capacity to cause havoc. 

It is a fundamental rule to be feared and prepared for.

6. We have 101 rivers in CEYLON covering the entire length and breath of the country

7. We are known for droughts.

8. When I last investigated factual base, say in 1995, 10% percent of those rivers had gone dry due to consistent droughts.

These river beds have water only during the monsoons or esle bone dry.

9. Because of frequent droughts we tend to ignore the potential of floods.

10. Now let me come to the Mahaveli Project.

11. I was totally against the Kotmale Project with reasons.

I used to monitor the rain on yearly basis and keep a  simple record, simply beacuse, the approach road to our house goes under water with torrential rain.

The rain comes down at exact time, during  the rainy season

I come home before the rain and I wait at a higher ground to pick our daughter who is dropped off from the school van at the Panideniya junction (not Peradeniya junction which is one and half kilometers away)

Three Wheeler drivers refuse to ply on this road that goes under very rapidly.

It is due to the sudden release of water from the Kothmale dam. 

I remove my shoes and tie them with the lace and put them on my shoulder to prevent them getting soaked. 

They do not dry overnight, if wet.

My daugher does the same thing with her white canvas shoes.

12. One day, my daughter got almost washed away had I not been there to pull her out. After this incident she cannot leave Panideniya junction until the water drains off. 

In 20 minutes the water drains to Mahaveli river. Not a big ask to wait for few minutes. 

Better option is to beat the rain and come home early

That is why I hate Kothmale Project.

13. Accelerated Mahaveli Project was a disaster.

According to my engineering friends there were many short cuts made to the project proper due to hastening of it.

Proper environmental (flood plane is only one aspect) assements were not done.

14. I sold my rackety car since our house did not have a garage.

Besides, the access road to our house was built on a stream that had gone dry for many decades. 

This access road gets flooded with every rain and I cannot park the car on the main road that also gets flooded..

15. I am glad we left CEYLON.

Had I been there I would have been on this road doing make shift repairs to the drain which gets filled up with soil. Then the water flows on the road damaging its surface.

In the current scene, I may have got even washed away and would have become a piece or an element in statistics.

The main road got flooded during the devastation and I am pretty sure the access road may have slipped away to the paddy field below.

This scenario is more than likely.

I tried to do an ariel survey using Google but could not.

Just curiosity.

There are 3 houses at the lowest level and two of them have cars. They were obsessed with maintaining this portion of the road simply because of their cars.

Incidentally, I was the only one having a car in early 1980s. Others did not except a guy who had an official jeep beloning to the Department of Agriculture.

One Sunday, I visited the house of the retired Assistant Registrar Student Services, to ask him whether I could park my car in his garage and I would pay for the services. 

He did not say Yes or No.

When, I went next time round to ask permission, I saw it was packed with firewood. I knew it was a big NO and made my own assessment of his personalty. 

He did not know I was a doctor at that time or pretended that he did not know my status in the university. He may have been a couple of years senior but he already was retired by that time.

This guy had Hepes zoster a year or two later and he became blind in one eye. 

I did not volunteer Acylovar treatment which could have prevented his blindness. It is a cardinal principle in our time not to volunteer treatment unless expressly requested for.

 

"Pinata beheth denna thahanam".

All these incidents made me to get rid of the car which is by nature is a depreciating asset.

16. Coming to the floods, the last major flood was in 1954 and I was not attending primary school, then. But I can very well remeber my siblings at home for over two weeks, not going to schools as usual.

We were house bound and I did not know the meaning of floods.

I hated rain in any case.

Then again we had a minor floods in between and I got stuck in Natha Devale having brought my mother to see Kandy Dalada Perehara.

That day it rained non stop.

That is the last time I went to see Perahara and I told my mother she has come alone, thereafter. 

She did eventually stop going to watch Perahara.

My obsession was to take photos of Elephants stationed in front of Natha Devale.

17. I did not have any premonition of this current catastrophic floods and in any case, it was not due until 2054, according to my statistics.

We are only on the 70s of that 100 year grace period.

18. That is why I say this is rhe CURSE brought on by this NPP/JVP Regime who are worse than Niganntayan of India but confimed Niragamikayo who despise Buddhist way of life.

I am convinced that this catastrophe was brought by an unforeseen CURSE.

19. Irony, is that Buddha was born in Teldeniya where it is under water due Victoria Project.

Victoria Project was a deliberate attempt by the British Monarch  to bury and erase the evidence of Buddha was born there for good.

Gaminie Dissanayake paid the price early in his life due to this Mega Mahaveli Project. In fact to bury the real history of Buddha.

Chandrika did know of the LTTE attemt to kill Gamnie Dissanayake and my Guess Work or gutt feeling is that she may have done it herself before the LTTE for political reasons.

Of course, she lost one of her eyes as a price and she was a known proxy of LTTE. 

Subtle CURSE befall on all these nasty politicians and JRJ had a nasty cancer which I witnessed in Navaloka Hospital.

S. W. R. D. is another guy I disliked for many reasons.

His "Anda Govi Panatha" (Tenant Land Act)

is one of them. We lost our prime paddy land to the Anda Goviya (Tenant Farmer) who was a crook. He cheated my mum and one day I chased him out and said never cross me again.

I never saw him again and I do not know who owns it now but the paddy land was filled up and a house was built which was a direct violation "Paddy Act".

This guy S. W. R. D. brought in dissent, and lawlessness.

To this day, people used to say, his burial site gets hit by lightening as a part of the CURSE he brought into this Buddhist country.

Disunity!

20. I am Glad Jayaratne Pathiraarchchi is on overdrive and bearing these facts right and left.

Indians RAW plotted to kill me.

I was 3rd or 4th in their list.

The contract was given to DJVP.

JVP guy who was in my staff named Ratnayake alerted me. In return, I told him Premadasa goons are planning to kill all of you and find a place and hide. He had kids.

He survived but not my vegetable vender and my favorite patient a little girl of 7.

Neck of the vegetable vender was slit and he bled to death. Mahaveli security guys did not open the gate so he could get timely treatment. The little girl aiso died due to same reason. 

She had asthma. 

The asthma was brought on by the "Fear Psychosis" spread by the DJVP.

Of course, DJVO guys were rounded up and killed and the dictor at Manikhinna usee to give me a runnibg commentary of bodies piled uo at his mortuary.

I stoped calling him at 138.

That number I still remeber to this day but real nuber was far in excess of that number.

The little girl's death made me to revise my treatment procol.

I give a stock of medicine to last 6 weeks.

I give additional prescriptions with renewal notice up to  3 monthdls. 

I give written instruction in a piece of paper with underlined phrase "do not look for me" but reach the nearest doctor or the dispenser.

22. RAW was behind me because I was working with Americans. They knew I had the American Satellite in our Operating Theater.

How I do not know.

Most likely guess work.

Only I knew it was a Satellite.

I quickly sent the sattelite to Colombo for safe keeping. If I remember right, I accompanied, it under the guise of taking a patient to Colombo.

Indians for ages hampered and undermined our progress.

Do not believe in Indians.

That is the CRIME Anura has committed.

23. In a previous occasion when I was working in the University, I had only 20 ruopess in my hand. i could buy a packet of Anchor milk (just to remind the price of packet of powered milk under 70 years of misrule).

These JVP guys forced the banks to be closed and we made a secret operation to ooen them on a Sunday and pay the Salary of the University Stsff.

This was the most secretive ooerstion I was involved in. I took my salary and resigned immediately. I knew the JVP guys would be behind me and 6 months later I joined Navaloka Hospital, not as a doctor but as an adminitritor.

24. I was in charge of Foreign Liqueur during trying time of NPP /JVP insurrection.

This was at IMMI.

But I only used our own VSOA.

Never Wiskey but Gin and Tonic was my standard before a Billiard or Snooker Game. I used to celebrate Poya Day with VSOA. Keys were with me for safe keeping and if I get a order from a distinguish guy (not politicians), I give a call to the Bar Boy and duspense the item.

There were 11 foreign country agents with different tatse of alcoholic beverages.

One day, police office came in for a bottle of arrak on a Poya Day.

I refused quoting the law but told the bar tender he can drink as much as he wishes with his uniform on.

He did not stay long.

I am totally off alcohol now and stopped smoking at 34. Never a single cigarette in UK. I thank late Mangala Samaraweera and Ranil Wickrasinghe for my abstinence. When they jacked up taxes on alcohol I abruptly stopped and never started.

I drink alcohol not taxes is my moto.

25. Chicken was my favorite taste with alcohol. 

I hated barbecue.

There was a chicken special in my name in our restaurant.

26. Cleaning the Swimming pool according international stsndatd was one of my major duties to prevent Infectios Hepatitis.

It was endemic then.

With our current disaster Infectious Hepatitis will certainly resurface.

27. Killing the stray dogs was another duty using lethal and inhumane strychnine

28. Writing an introductory Note Book on Tropical Diseases for foreign visitors was another task.

I did not have a Secretary but  used the secretary of the administrator for dictating one piece  at a time.

I fogot to keep a copy but years later redid. My blogging and writing started with it.

29. Into Maps and Map reading.

I was gooid in geography at primary school. I could remeber all the countries and capitaos by 10.

30. One thing I could not do was to get a job in Northern Territories of Australia and work for two years.

Instead, I went to West Coast of New Zealand but Maoris were alien to me.

The River Mahaveli fascinates me

Not because of its nature but because of its use by ancient kings to protect Kandy city.

I have a book on Rivers and Water Falls of Ceylon at Amazon, one is advised to read it.

When I was writing this book I did some Research Work and I realized that it's current route is not natural but man made.

There are only two bridges over Mahaveli in Kandy and both were built by the British to protect Kandy from sabotage.

In my belief Heen Ganga is the only natural stream that flows according to geographical contours with gradual descent, to the Mahaveli River.

I have forgotten the details now.

Coming back to Floods we had a major flood in Kandy when I was a little kid in 1952 or 1954. 

I was not attending school but I could remember for one solid month we were home bound and no schooling for my siblings.

It was a very gloomy.

Years later I saw the  stone erected in Kandy, Mulgampola to mark the highest water level. 

I believe this landmark is no more.
Probably removed by the municipality vandals.

The present Gatambe Vihara was supposed to have not gone under water.
It came to famous and prominence, after that fact.

I can remember only one other time that it rained over two weeks during Esala Perahera. I hid in the Paththini Devale for over two hours on that day. It was my only shelter. I had to walk home to Ampitiya with no buses. 

I did not go for Esala Perahera for a very long time after this incident.
Elephants are my favorites but now I say they should not be paraded for display and they belonged to the jungle.

What I remember as a young guy was that every time I went to Colombo by bus even with minor rain Peradeniya and Gatambe go under water for a few hours. 

The bus stops at Peradeniya and stay until water subsides.
Unlike nowadays, rains were heavy.

No problem if I come by train.
The train track is at a higher level.

This went on until grand Mahaveli Project was completed and the Maskelliya damn came into existence.

Only when there is spill over from Maskelliya Dam we tend to have minor floods in Peradeniya.
 

The Rugger Grounds at Peradeniya goes under water (not cricket ground, hockey ground and track and field, they were.at a higher level). No more  rugger played now, mainly due to clashes of students of the two rival schools.
 
There is a stream that flows by the side of these grounds and I used to stroll through this pristine stream looking for Giant Danios.

Rugger ground is the wettest and the muddiest.

My research work lead me to reading large books on geography.

My particular interest was the stretch of road that leads from Peradeniya to Panidemiya. It goes under water ever so often, even with minor rains.

There is a little stream that comes under Kandy Colombo road and then flows to Mahaveli River by the side of the Railway Bridge in Peradeniya.

On the other side of the river is the Peradeniya University. I used walk (short cut) to the University on the rotten iron plates on one side of the bridge.
I stopped this habit when I detected that big iron planks were missing and nobody bothered to repair them.
Big risk of falling to the river if I missed one of my steps.

I can remember I was made to run over these plates by the seniors as a part of the ragging. I did a sprint and the senior guys took at least 20 minutes to cross it.

I realized these guys were not my heroes.

One of the saner senior guys said are you mad to run like this. That was the end of the ragging.

Coming back again to floods, one of the books said that the next flood beats the one before by a big margin.

It only happens once only in 100 years.

Now going by 1954 it is 70 years now and current rain in Ceylon epitomizes the said geographical fact.
 
What I want to highlight is the mapping of the flood planes.
 
After every major flood it should be mapped to define the extent of the FLOOD PLANE and its devastation.
 
No construction should be allowed and should be designated as reserved area and for natural habitat.
 
People who built quarters within the Flood Plane should be persecuted and should not be paid any compilations at all, for their residences. These are done under the pretext of tourist attraction. I say tourist should not be allowed to access the protected areas.
 
MCC program of the World Bank and I.M. F.  have mapped these areas with callous disregard to Environmental Impact.

The bottom line is to protect the flood planes without any destructive so called development.
 
Our ancestors had harnessed over 100 rivers, without destroying the environment and we should make it a point to respect them protect our country from mal-designed foreign investment.

It is known for its scarcity of proper mapping.
 
Original Mahaveli River starts from Badulla and drain to the Trincomalay plane.
 

The original water content is not sufficient for agriculture.
 

It was supplemented by Kotmalay Oya and Pundalu Oya.

I traced them from the Ceylon Surveyors Map and documented in my book.
 

Unfortunately, except where its basin is exploited for commercial activities it not properly mapped for details. 

This is what I have found.
    Nanu Oya.
    Puna Oya.
    Pundalu Oya.
    Kotmale Oya.
    Hatton Oya.
    Atabage Oya.
    Nilamba Oya.
    Nanu Oya (Peradeniya)

Alfred Cyclone and My Previous Encounters

I have slept through two major catastrophes and the third one is building up.

I would  probably sleep that natural disaster, too.

 

This is just to say I can sleep well.

The first was in 1988 in UK.

I was about to return to Ceylon and the family was packed home in advance. 

I had to continue another month or so of my official duties in UK.

If I remember right house was, No.1, Sanctuary Close, Dartford.

I had done my night duty and returned home in the early hours for my usual after work nap, around 9.00AM.

At about 1.30PM I heard the rattle on our backdoor which was interrupting my sleep.

I put the table top freezer, fridge and the  tumbler against the door and went to sleep.

At about 7 to 8PM the biggest thunderstorm of the recent history in UK hit the coast ripping trees, power lines and roofs and what not.

I slept through the entire episode and casually gave a call at 1.30PM, why there is no power.

The lady in the telephone exchange said you are hell of a guy and YOU slept through the biggest cyclone. 

Open your door and see for yourself, that the front parapet wall made of bricks  is ripped off.

The next door neighbor's roof is blown off.

We did not call you since you were up all night, yesterday night.

Have you got any gas?

I said, Yes.

Then boil some water and make a cup of tea.

We got your telephone line working and would get your electricity line up soon.

I politely ask if they need any help.

She laughing said; only if you can climb electric poles and trees.

I said no way but I am available for an emergency.

Within half an hour I got my electricity.

These guys who did emergency and restorative work were the best in the world.

Next episode was in 1994 July, six years later in New Zealand. 

Similarly, I have packed our family home and sleeping on a Saturday afternoon.

I was thrown out of the bed and I guessed I had a dream and kicked a guy in my sleep and I had fallen off the bed. 

But when I looked at the Buddha Image in front of me on the roof, it was tilted and swinging lightly. 

Then when looked at the pantry, I saw most of the cupboards open and some dangling.

It dawn on me that a major earthquake has hit South Island.

Yes, it was and it was 7.2 Richter Scale and I slept through it. 

But the aftershocks lasted 6 weeks.

I was terrified every time an aftershock hit the floor.

I did not sleep well for over 6 weeks with even a slightest of tremor.

I woke up.

Soon after, I left New Zealand, never to return.

It looks like disasters seem to follow me.

Regarding, floods it was frequent in Peradeniya, those days.

Thankfully we lived on a little hill and water never reached our level.

However, the road get flooded with even a minor rain. If one is caught, one has to take off the shoes put them on the shoulder and bent the  trouser up to the knee level and wade through the raging water. 

One day, when I came down to pick my daughter after school, we were caught in a torrent more than usual. 

With clever manoering we managed to reach for the crossroad. 

I was glad I there when she really needed me. 

No schooling on heavy rain was a golden rule afterwards.

Years later much bigger girl was drowned in a canal in the city of Kandy.

When the Project Maskeliya came into operation part of water from the Maskeliya Oya was diverted to Mahaveli River upstream so our flood plane receded accordingly. 

I was very much active discussing the flood problem with Mahaveli Engineers.

All of them (hired hands) were not provided with regular places in the Estate Engineering Corporation, after Mahaveli Project was completed.

They left Ceylon.

We lost them with their talents.

I never saw them, again.

This is a summary for those reading this piece from Ceylon.

It looks like the Albert cyclone soft landed with category 1 but the torrential rain will go on for a week or more.

Hope floods would not do more damage than the winds with waves over 10 feet hitting the coast and hindering the flow of water of the rivers to the sea.

But falling trees are doing enough damage to the power lines causing interruption to electricity in many regions.

Sunshine Coast is relatively safe but Gold Coast is inundated with rain.

Brisbane that was expected to be hit worst was spared by some grace of Weather Gods.

All shops are closed and we are home bound.

I did keep up till 1AM as  usual but dropped to sleep eventually.

No dreams.

 

We had power cut little over 24 hours.

Complete rest for my NUC and cellphone doing the updates.

Ellawala Medanada Thakkadiyek

Yes, Ellawala Medananda is a big cheat.

First he categorically says Buddha was birn in India.

20 years or so he says Buddha was born in CEYLON.

According to him there are two Buddhas.

One Indian Buddha.

Another Sinhala Buddha.

He has a honournary degree in Archaelogy.

He is as good cheater as Pananavitharana C. B. E.

I am glad Jayaratne Pathiraarchchi is cleaning up the mess with SelLipi or Stone Edits to support his views that Buddha was born in CEYLON l.

These guys who state Buddha was born in India gets some commission from Indian High Commission in Colombo and Kandy.

These commission guys should be investigated and prosecuted for spreading fake or false information in CEYLON.

That is the bottom line.

Pali as a Language Failed to Express!

This piece is dedication to Professor A. D. P. Kalansuriya who introduced me to "Language Games" long after I matured into C and dropped it at C++ PLUS.

Even, in Computer CODE, if one adds more and more Commands Modules, one is left with an endless loop with no Work Output. 

Google's Visual Code suffer the same fate. 

PYTHON or the Anaconda which I was never interested in has long twists of CODE is only GOOD for automation since, if one loop fails another loop tightly binds the PREY for later consummation loop or rather maintaining the automatic loop.

I am not sure how AI would solve this problem of many computers languages.

Would it build another language of it own?

Pali

Pali as a language has failed to Express Dhamma in a pristine form. 

This is what as an astute philosopher Professor A. D. P. Kalansuriya tried to do without opening a can of worms in his time, among the so called Buddhist monks who are entangled in a mess of Pali words.

My conviction of Pali is bit beyond the attempt of the professor. 

I want it to get rid of the jargon.

This is the very reason I did not want to be named a professor in my retirement (partly technical and partly I did not want to be tagged to University of Peradeniya, in my retirement to avoid visiting their Conventions by invitation. 

Now our ulma mater is devastated, one is not sure, when the next convention is going to be held).

With a post of professor one is bound by conventions if not convictions.

I want to be free of conventions. 

Free of convictions I can now state or lash out;

1. Pali is not the language of Buddha.

 

2. Pali is an adopted or "cooked up" language by Indians to distort Dhamma or the very Teachings of Buddha.

3. I was made to believe that to understand Dhamma one has to know Pali. 

I tried.

I collected (they are collecting dust in CEYLON ), all the dictionaries and glossaries, thinking Dhamma is an academic exercise.

I am proven WRONG.

4. If I did not meet Professior A. D. P. Kalansuriya, I would have been trapped or entangled.

5. The word entanglement is colossal.

It even embraces the meaning of python in computer coding. 

6. Dhamma is for unentanglement.

7. Pali is for entanglement and the moment I realized this, I dropped Pali knowing Buddha  only spoke in simppe language.

8. If Buddha was not born in CEYLON, he certainly embraced the original Sinhala language which Jayarathne Pathiraarchchi tries to bring out in style.

9. Buddhagosha and Mahanama were vested by Indian kings to destroy Sinhala language. 

By doing so destroy Dhamma.

10. Why did they translate Dhamma into Pali?

11. Why did they burn the original Sinhala Texts?

12. What happened at Abayagiri?

13. Pali is a creation by Indian Pandits to distort Dhamma.

Dhamma does not give "two hoots" to God or Maha Brahma.

14. Idea was to propagate gods of many kinds with that  also the castes of many kinds.

15. If Pali is not a creation, why there is no place on this Planet people speaking Pali?

16. Sinhala, letters originated first.

They are still present in CEYLON as Stone Edits or SelLipi.

17. Anura and Niragamikayan are trying to perpetuate this Indian mythology on present "Helayans" who are only a few that are left in this country.

18. We have to destroy this Indian propaganda.

Ranil Wickrasinghe and Milinda Moragoda have taken this contract.

19. Our history has to be rewritten.

Wisdom vs Meditation vs Linux CODE 

I am not a Meditator.

In fact, I avoid it by default.

Meditation is only an entry point to Wisdom.

I was one who wasted my time on Knowledge.

Knowledge exposed in physics is only 15%. 

One cannot gather that information of physics by meditation. 

Mathematics may help to a certain point but quantum physics is beyond mathematics.

It needs different jargon.

65% of the rest is dark matter and dark energy. 

20% is unknown and that unknown part is glimpsed only by Buddhas. That knowledge is not relevant to the Path ENTRY and was never discussed by Buddhas.

In biology 40% is unknown.

30% is hereditary.

30% is induced or environmental factors.

Pattern is similar but percentages are different.

20% to 30% that is glimpsed by Buddhas is called the Wisdom ENTRY which we are unable to grasp.

What we can grasp include:

Kamma Niyama.

Dhamna Niyams.

Utu Niyama

Bija Niyama

Those four principles drive the pattern of Rebirth. 

Rebirth is wrapped in "Uncertainty Principle". 

One cannot determine what is going to be the next birth.

Glimpse of it or "Gati Nimitta" is seen at the time of leaving the present birth.

That is the essence and there is no "Maha Brahma" who determines the fate of living beings.

This process is automatic and determined by the "Mind Principle" which I have not fathomed. 

The meditators including Darrel Anka are ones who make a mess out of this whole Mind Principle SAGA.

Those who try to becomes Sages other than Buddha are like blind leading the blind.

The beginning point is to see that our eyes have a very narrow spectrum but our mind has a wide spectrum.

Dhamma is the part that evade us.

Uncertainty Principle propels it.

Dukka in my understanding is a wrong connotation of Buddha's Teaching, most likely brought in by Indian Niganntayans.

Unsatisfactoryness is a better term.

What is uncertain, including REBIRTH  by nature is unsatisfactory. 

It is only a label but not a sign of wisdom but in essence an academic entity.

PATH and path ENTRY is the Way of Dhamma. 

Only the wise enter the path. 

Ones who has entered the path never declares that fact but look forward to the next entry point. Moment one enters the path one tends to become non delusional.

Delusion is a major hindrance to path ENTRY.

Moment, one realizes the Teacher or the Master is in "Delusional State" just quit the guy or girl and become FREE again.

Darrel Anka by nature is a nice guy with a better vocabulary than me. I like him but never follow him or understand what he is trying to say.

I take him as a model for point of reflection.

I am a guy with sound understanding of principles, not formula, of physics and the Universe is only a mystery to me. Understanding it does not make me smarter but a guy wrapped in mystery solving until another guy disproves me with another theory or thesis to be disproved by yet another guy. 

That is why science progress albeit at a slower pace but Linux is taking Giant Strides since the CODE is open to scrutiny and enhancements.

By conviction, I am out of CODING knowing very well that Linus Torvalds is doing a good job.

 

I am already taking Forky or the Debian TESTING as my daily driver. 

I am in holiday mode and the NUC is switched off, so that "Jail Breakers" cannot have a FREE ENTRY.

Debian 11.11.0.32 Installation

This is the Bullseye Debian version that had the blue background and left and right hand application panels I liked very much.

No WiFi configuration.

No GRUB configuration and did not recognize other distribution installations.

This was released in 2021, soon after Coronavirus recovery.

I was into BSD (did configure our Ethernet) and Emmabantus which configured WiFi automatically and I had "On Service" Dialog WiFi. 

This is the time I got to know how to configure WiFi.

Probably I had Debian 11 installed without AbiWord.

Expects to be connected to Ethernet we had at that time in Ceylon.

Did not configure with the repository.

Without Internet Connectivity one cannot.

Installation is pretty fast in spite of me getting all the desktops except LXDE and LXQt.

No cellphone links.

Come to think about Debian has move fast and now we have an elegant Cellphone Connectivity.

If I fail to get the WiFi and the Internet, I am going to ditch this version from my NUC.

It has over 2600 files.

Yes, I am installing REBORN OS over it.

Debian Installation

It does not matter which version one uses, one should download DVD-1 for installation. It Install the Base Desktop first and lets one select from Taskel the Desktop one prefers.

No Windows Manager at all.

One can chose Windows Managers on top of GNOME, including Enlightenment. Enlightenment is 401MB big. 

 

Other Windows Managers from Matchbox, Fluxbox to Blackbox to OpenBox are very light weight.

 

But my favorite ice IceWM.

 

Awesome is another one.

Some of them do not have log out and one has to restart the computer which is a pain. Those which do not log out scheme I never use. 

Gnome Desktop and KDE Desktop with REBORN OS

KDE takes 3GB and GNOME takes 1.5GB  for installation.

 Actual hard drive space for KDE is twice as much occupying 6GB. 

This is why it is SLOW to boot. 

 

This is why I use GNOME.

By the way, GT never says what distribution he uses. I guess he uses UBUNTU Server edition.

UBUNTU uses Wayland for its Window Manager which is bulky.

X11 was the foundation for al Window managers. It is a crime that X11 is kicked out of the scene

 

REBORN takes 12 (GNOME) to 15 (KDE) minutes to install.

Falcon is the standard browser for KDE.

 

Firefox is the standard browser for GNOME.

I have only AbiWord added to the System.

If one adds more applications, more time it takes. 

CachyOS lets one add lot of stuff but it take at least 22 minutes to install.

 

Manjaro install fast but it only install what is in the Installer Iso Image, Gnome, KDE or Xfce.
