Debian Trixie-Cinnamon is Pretty Good
Linux Mint-Update
Linux Mint-Update
Read what is posted year ago, below for details.
I decided to try Linux Mint after one year to see whether it would allow me to use Flatseal as an application. It doe not in a live session. Debian 13 Trixie does install it but like Gnome-Pie it does not open or function.
One plus point of Mint in a live session is it lets me install Abiword and Synaptic Package Manager. Those are the two items I check in addition to WiFi connectivity.
It passed those with flying colours.
I have basic Cinnamon Desktop, in one of my Debian instances. Linux Mint is cinnamon with some gloss padded up with proprietary which I do not support.
Installation is over, I hope my GRUB file is intact.
I report on Flatseal, later. Unsuccessful.
This time I installed it on single partition. Even though it is 2.9GB in the USB Iso image it expands it to over 5.5GB and I had 10GB in the /root partition.
Installation is pretty SLOW, but I can put up within it by blogging a running commentary.
Overall perfarmaoce was very bad and it filled up the 9.5GB in no time. Removed LibreOffice and Firefox to get some space and installed Dillo but I could not get Falkon.
I am going to install Debian Cinnamon Imde-6.
Before that I am going to try Fedora Silverblue-ostree.
Silverblue takes over the hard disk and I gave up.
Workstation edition let me select a Partition types. I gave EFI, /root and Swap it crashed. I wanted a /boot partition but I did not have free partition. Overall Fedora does not want to coexist. Additionally, it ruined the GRUB or formatted it by default. This is all corporate mentality and that is why I gave it up 30 years ago.
For a change I am going to install Debian in a single partition to save the already existing instances and get the GRUB file in order.
Debian is always my saviour.
I could have used MX Linux but it still in the old kernel. I am saving 5 partitions for it's install, when it comes eventually.
I am going to install Debian Imde-6 instead on top of Linux Mint.
I am still waiting for the MX Linux New Version on Kernel 13 series.
Linux Mint Installation
Linux Mint Installation is painfully slow but with Debian LMDE it is pretty smooth bit similar to Calamara Installer but different.
I do not know why?
Reasons may be;
1. It does not have world wide mirrors.
2. It takes ages to look for codecs.
3. It is basically the Ubuntu Installer padded up with graphic.
4. Unlike Debian Calamara Installer the panel cannot be expanded to see my hard disks partition which is 25 in number.
5. I think mouse pointer takes a lot of memory.
6. Deleting and making a new partition is pretty slow.
7. I have 7 partitions to review (for installation, no /var) before hitting the OK button but can see only 4 partitions.
8. I do not rush things, so it is not a worry.
9. Fortunately it does not direct me to its home page.
10. How it updates I do not know.
11. I only want to see how it configures the GRUB file.
It failed to configure GRUB and missed both Manjaro and Debian and detected only Ubuntu.
I did reinstall Debian and got the GRUB file in order.
I think if one is having multiple distributions, Debian should be installed last to get the GRUB Efi in order.
12. I do not fiddle with Gnome basic or default configuration.
It suits me fine and why fiddle?
This so called customization is a gimmick for Newbies.
There is a father son file hierarchy and everything is organized.
I can understand it for a Server where resources have to be allocated equitably for better management.
In a desktop environment in a family set up if each individual is given a user name an a password of their choice, what matters is the applications available for their consumption.
I install several web browsers from light to heavy for my work. If one browser is slow I open a another browser and do my work on that.
What matters is the RAM. I have 8GB RAM (it was 4GB for a long time) and without playing games, it can handle numerous task one and the same time.
Daemon behind allocate resources as needed and with a healthy SWAP partition nothing get choked.
That is the strength and the basis of efficiency of Linux.
Microsoft Windows won't be able to handle this with padded up 64GB RAM.
That is the difference and that is why I use Linux.
There is no junk in my computer.
So I do not won!t a Snapshot of my Computer.
Each year by December, I take 6 weeks off the computer and look (Debian has two year cycle of update) new distributions and test them.
13. I tested the snapshot utility.
After one hour of copying it said there is no space for the snapshot.
I promptly deleted the half baked snapshot (save space for Linux mint).
The home partition has less than 1000 files or items and it is only 115MB. It has 17.3GB space from 20GB allocated to the home partition.
I always check this and if the (mainly due to iso images) if the balance space is nearing 2GB, I delete few of the tested images.
I use AbiWord for my books they are always less than 300KB and never in MBs.
That is the beauty of AbiWord.
So this customization is a big joke.
I just installed Window Maker in my Gnome Desktop and (it is a window manager) and fiddled with it with minimal strain on the computer RAM.
This game of windows within windows is not a creative concept.
One should use different Workplaces for different tasks not within windows.
Mint has only one workplace, I wonder whether I can make two work places.
I need maximum of 3 workplaces.
Any distribution without workplaces do not entice me.
14. I think my reporting of Linux would end with this.

MX Linux- I am waiting for Trixie Version
MX Linux
I am Still waiting for Trixie version
I erased the MX Linux 23.6 expecting for it's new release and it is yet to come.
I installed Suse Leap 15.6 and Tumbleweed (both are the last version before emerging into Immutable version, which I hate), on top of it and not satisfied I installed MX Linux again.
It has all the browsers I need including Palemoon. I is the lightest browser I us d with Puppy Linux 30 years ago, and unlike Dillo, Epiphany and Falkon are not available in reposities.
Palemoon in Manjaro did not work.
I am currently installing both KDE and Gnome.
It has Synaptic Package Manager.
It always asks permission before installing a new application and one can abort to t a mistake is made.
Kernel is 6.1.... 38.1
I got Stacer back.
I am using Brave browser, now to post this.
Lot of application including Transmission has to be installed using Synaptic Package package Manager but Deluge was available.
One has to be quite competent and knowledgeable about Linux utilities, to begin with and derive full benefits.
MX Linux Revisited
There some problem with GRUB file and it did not recognize Reborn OS. I am reinstalling Reborn OS with a big /var partition for my additional applications.
It has finished installing.
I am currently installing MX Linux 6.1.0-35-amd64 Kernel.
It is almost two years.
I is using KDE desktop as its base.
I am installing Gnome desktop now.
Make sure one start with Gdm and not Sddm (one has to look for the type of desktop from the panel below).
I am used to the top right hand scheme of the Gnome.
Installation is very slow but everything is streamlined for a newbie with graphic instructions.
It is nice to see even Reborn OS use MX Linux methods.
I hope it gets my GRUB file OK.
Fortunately it lets me access my Gnome /Home folder to copy my books to MX Linux folder., in case I mess up with my Gnome.
I am well into Debian 13 series which bit refined and no complaints.
I have 2 Debian and one Reborn OS and MX Linux in my NUC with 320GB.
It has a 50GB NTFS folder which stores all my favorite Linux distributions that include Reborn OS,
Manjaro,
Bodhi 7.0.0.64,
Arch,
Antix,
Debian new and many more images.
I went back to Gnome Desktop and got Synaptic Package Manager installed.
Stacer, Gdebi, Gparted and USB writer and USB formatter included.
Yes, using KDE is a pain in the arxx>.
I do not need to respond to every OK approval now.
By the way it supports open office.

Mx Linux 23.3-Install
Since,
I have given up on Ubuntu, I decided to use another Linux distribution
on top of Debian, Gnome, with a Light Weight Desktop.
I am beginning to Love Light Weight Desktops where on can fiddle with icon and windows.
In Flushbox Windows can be taken out of the monitor screen but they do not disappear but come from the other end.
It reduces the clutter even on a giant monitor.
I have also decided to Install it on a USB, instead of writing on a USB to mount.
I want it to be persistent copy and not a Live session.
It has lot of options and it is finishing install with Efi partition and a SWAP partition, in case I mount it on a Windows Box.
I takes long time to install USB stick which is understandable.
It booted with a user password and root password for Synaptic Package Manager.
I am currently installing,
1. AbiWord.
2. Stacer.
3. Notepadqq
4. Ranger
There is no LibreOffice.
Efi
/root is just under 10GB.
/boot
SWAP
No additional partitions.
I have found a way to add additional partitions say /var or /tmp.

Political Suicide of Ceylon
OpeSuse-15.6 Leap and Tumbleweed
OpenSuses 15.6 Leap
Yes, I did install OpenSuse 15.6 Leap on my NUC.
I used Gnome Desktop.
It was bit of long process.
Only Reason, I did was it allowed me to select Gnome at install time.
Last time Tumbleweed took over the hard disk. This time I used Ext4 instead of Btrfs using expert option.
Used Plasma 6 option and to see the games available.
Gnome took almost 5GB but Plasma only 4.5GB which was bit of surprise.
This time I was careful in my installation.Installation is on administrator level and one should make sure to click the administrator level option. If you did not select this option you may not be able to install it. It is at root level which is not a good option.
Immediately after installation, I selected a User level which was bonobo an African monkey.
It did not destroy my GRUB boot loader.
I could not install Synaptic Package manager which was not to my liking and I have to Go To Suse repository and the packages are in rpm which I hate.
I would try SOFTWARE and install AbiWord to begin.
A report will follow after a cup of tea and opening a file in AbiWord.
AbiWord was a rpm package and I managed to install it with my previous experience with Suse.
Audacious was installed using binaries.
Stacer is not available.
Rest of the packages I am going to install using Suse Package installer which include Audacity, Kdenlive and VLC.
Scribus, Inkscape and Blender all installed.
No Gdebi and no other browsers like Opera or Vivaldi but I got Epiphany and Falkon and no Dillo.
Using Gnome got Gparted, too.
No little games.
With all that I have used less than 10GB of DATA and I have 12GB left out 22GB for other installations.
Blender and Xournal (Texlive) took a lot space.
Summary
It took a long time to update 573 packages but after that everything went smoothly.
It is only in install version and not a live session which wastes, lot of my time.
Installing a distribution in Box utility is a pain.
This is true for Fedora with the exception of the image is very small and hardly any applications in the system. However Fedora has many versions and selecting one is a pain.
It is the last version before the new immutable version of Suse.
It is one year old and it was released in June 2024.
It is in Qt5 version and new Qt which is Qt6.
It is running 573 new updates on packages.
This for me to write a few line in my book "Linux Essentials" coming soon in Amazon books.
I cannot install an old kernel of Debian to coexist with Trixie and this (Suse) is the nearest I could keep to the old times.
It cannot write a Linux image to a USB.
Overall the experience was not bad but brought the nostalgia of using Linux 20 years ago when they were not proprietary.
Whatever the distribution Linux never failed me.
I am not a fan of immutable software and that is why I gave up Gnoppix.
AI installer drives me NUTS even though I use AI for looking for the correct definition when writing on a new topic which is better than Wikipedia.
Ragata-OS of Suse
Yes, I decided to Install Ragata OS on top of my MX Linux and it wanted 1 GB of EFI boot partition.
Linux Games I Love to Play
Linux Games I Love to Play
Linux Gamers Live, the Arch derivative is top of my list and Linux Ultimate Edition is close second and Knoppix 2008 December edition comes third and I could not find a new version of games in spite of Knoppix 6.7 was out and looks fantastic.
Knoppix cannot be installed on hard drive.
Why I choose Linux Gamers Live was simply
because its front-end just looks like Apple front-end and ready for
games with icons instead of names.
It also can be installed into hard disk now.
Now instead of trying to outscore these three edition which I have done a lot for Linus games, I will list my favorites below.
Even PCLinuxFuillMonty though, they have place for Linux guys and girls.
I
ndirectly FullMonty comes fourth.
1. Number one is Super Tux 2 and I enjoyed playing hours and hours.
2. Close second is Pingus and its environmental theme is commendable.
3. Number three is Extreme Tux Racer which is sweet and relaxing
4. Number 4 is SuperTuxCart (this is for the racing addict)
5. Number 5 is Tuxcart (This is for the training on racing)
6. Number 6 is Frozen Bubble
7. Number 7 is any of the 100 of tiny games
If any of the Linux distributions fail to
introduce any of the top 5 of mine selection I thought of giving them
minus marks in my rating in future.
Mind you with Wine and getedit one can play Windows , DOS and Atari games of the yesteryear.

Manjaro Linux-Update
The Latest Version is Superb!
1. WiFi configuration is smooth unlike BlueStar Linux.
2. Installation is smooth
3. GRUB is OK but as with All ARCH derivatives they cannot coexist with other operation. But have found a way and i would describe the methods in my book "Linux Essentials".
4. It is stable.
5. As with Reborn OS can install other desktops but I only tried Plasma and it is stunningly Beautiful.
6. It is the Only distribution that allows me to install Brave Browser in Graphic mode.
I do not use Terminal at all but I have found a very good terminal called Ranger.
7. Stacer is missing in all but 13 series Debian but there is more efficient System Analyzer. I like Stacer again recuse it has a very beautiful Graphic Interface. which I miss.
Yes, it not the principle of Linux to duplicate applications.
8. Having said that even though, I am a Firefox convert I promote all other browsers.
9. Do not forget Epiphany and Frozen Bubble. only two gamer utilities i use. But I miss many of the old ones Tux, Tux Racer and Tux cart.
10. Do not forget Catchy OS which has its own browser.
I have now 10 in total including Epiphany of Gnome.
Having at least two browsers is very important to a guy like me who is a Multitask Guy.
That is the beauty of Linux.
Please note this (my) comment all developer guys and girls.
Thank YOU all of YOU including LinuxTracker for providing readily available images.
Manjaro Linux
Thank YOU Manjaro Developer Girls and Boys.
After long lay off I installed Manjaro and it is pretty good.
This is posting from Manjaro instance.
I used to use Gnome Software for installing additional packages.
Gnome Software is taken as an application and it has a limit for its application install. I do not like flatpak which is bulky and Gnome Software has a common library. I could not Install GIMP. I could not install Gnome Box.
But Manjaro Software let me install Box as flatpac.
My advice is use ONLY Manjaro Software.
No problem configuring my GRUG boot loader.
Manjaro is a superb distribution and my finicky Gnome behavior is the fault.
In any case gnome is going to be a new distribution on its own and I am watching its development in the future.
I am a Debian Guy and Gnome comes on top of Gnome.
I have no intention of leaving Debian.
Incidentally I installed Debian 13 Testing Gnome and it's application package is fixed and I am unable install even AbiWord as an additional package.

Yakada Yaka
My Position Regarding Citizen Ranil Wickramasinghe
My Position Regarding Citizen Rani Wickramasinghe
My Position Regarding Citizen Rani Wickramasinghe is clear.
He was rejected by the general public twice and as an old man he should retire and become an ordinary citizen, again.
He is good for an ornamental political coffin or ideally a political dustbin.
Making him a hero is not good for our politics.
He did not settle any of our long standing loans but delayed payment until 2028.
We have to pay back the loans with accrued interests which is worse than paying it now itself.
He should be treated like any other citizen and he does not deserve any special treatment at all.
If there is a legal provision to prosecute him it should not be delayed. If there is any legal procedure against a politician it is dragged inordinately until that government is out of power. A case against Senior Premadasa came out 12 years after his death.
So far only one minister had seved his sentence and two others went to prison.
Ranil should be in this list if he had done punishable deeds politically or otherwise.
Along with Gaminie Lokuge, he was involved in disappearances of Students of the Peradeniya Univesity, when I was young Medical guy working in the university
seconded from the Department of Health.
Equally one of my friends Nagahawatta who was an army volunteer officer was killed by NPP/JVP guy in 1987/89 in the university and dumped into Alwis Pond.
I was witness to the killing of our vegetable vendor in Digana village.
He was not allowed to come to my clinic which was right across the road. A few children under my care died because they were not allowed to attend my clinic at Digana.
138 bodies were dumped into Manikhinna Hospital. They were killed because they were forced to parade against the police in Manikhinna and Digana. Our hospital team was asked to join the parade and I stopped them going there, lest they would have been among the 138.
Police dumped several bodies for public display in Digana.
I am not defending neither police nor army.
I did not think Airfoce guys were involved and their training seems to be different.
I was a temporary lecturer (not as officer medical officer but a teacher) in the University and I resigned from my post with two kids to feed when my friend Nagahawatta was killed. He was from the Arts Faculty.
I was without a job for six months and joined the Private sector and ended up at Navaloka Hospital. I worked for Quality Control in Hospital Management and Navaloka was awarded the National Quality award.
Incidentally, J.R.J was warded with terminal illness, I never went to see him but I signed all his reports as part of the Quality Control (there was no need for me to countersign) work.
I signed his last blood report most likely taken after his demise, and I made a "verbal comment" that this guy ought to be dead.
Sure enough, I saw white flags when I passed Ragama railway station.
Ragama railway station, on my train journeys I have never alighted but has a special memory in my mind. A rouge guy threw a stone at the railway and it hit my forehead narrowly missing my left eye.
Without alighting at Peradeniya, I went to Kandy station and reported this incident. I made sure this guy and several others were caught.
Then, there was a gang of pickpockets who board from Ragama and steal things from train passengers. After six months of investigation with the help of a forensic medical guy we rounded them up.
The number if I remember right was between 25 to 30.
In actual fact, his wrist watch was snatched by these pickpockets at the Panideniya Junction.
Regarding my injury, I went to Peradeniya hospital (the place I was trained and also worked as a teacher) for a X-ray and I was kept until midnight for the wound toilet.
Again a shoddy job.
It took nearly three months for it to heal and the sand particles or the silica particles to come out on their own accord. Had I not taken antibiotics on my own accord (hospital did not dish out any), I could have been dead by a nasty meningitis episode.
Renukane Chanda Wimala and my boss during my internship Dr. S.S. Drahaman were hospitalized along with J.R.J. but neither recovered from the illness. I of course, went to see Dr. Drahaman but he was desperately ill and couldn't recognize me.
Just to say, Private hospitals are no better.
This is just for Sepala to make a note why I am now in Australia but would never come home.
I did my part today for "Australia Clean" and dumped all the rubbish where it belonged, which included recycling material.
Ceylon will never regain its glory of the time of Dudley Senanayake.
I wish not be born again in Ceylon, having seen Jayaratne Pathiraarachchi's YouTube presentation where he had to do the cooking (for his wife), which included cleaning up little fish Salaya.
I would advice him to a take protein rich diet to regain his composure.
He looks deficient in B Vitamins. May be related to the toddy he drinks. For his own health he should gradually stop drinking which I did over three years and totally free of alcohol now for 10 years, of course after my retirement.
I stopped drinking since it affected my memory ( short term memory).
Cooking is far better than making a YouTube presentation to grab some money from gullible viewers.

Gods and Humans
I am good in my mathematics and I could not count the 31 (4 of the Arupavatara without physical bodies need not have a world to manifest themselves, in other words Mind only beings) Gods, having referred to the Buddhist Dictionary of Reverend Nyanathiloka.
I have counted only 22 (6 in this world, 12 in fine material worlds and 4 in immaterial worlds) Gods in total.
I have 9 Gods not accounted for.
So if I add six (6 ) of the Hindu Gods in all six directions, I still get 3 more gods unaccounted for.
I think Buddhist monks are bad in mathematics.
That is not the point, I want to drive here.
Being born as a human is supreme.
Buddhas are born only in human worlds.
Hitler's are also born in this world.
We have both good and bad.
Buddha has often repeatedly said being born in a heavenly world is a waste of time and waste of good Kamma.
He also has stated those heavenly beings fall to lower realms when they die at the end and when the good Kamma expires.
So worshiping gods and trying to become a god is waste of human energy.
It is high time we act as humans and save lives of human beings involved in futile War.
I am not going to take a side in this War.
War always has a beginning but it's end is often blurred.
Very rarely we get a chance to be born as humans and if we waste that human life in War, one is most likely to be dead and be born again in hell as a demon.
Humans can become demons as well as gods in this world.
Coming back to Buddhist Cosmology;
If I count OUT, 4 of the immaterial worlds, I get 18 gods (18 worlds), in total.
Not worth being in one of them.
Be human!
Rarity of Humanoids
Human beings (manussa loka)
Rebirth as a human being is extraordinarily rare.
The assumption here is there are only 5 types of humanoids in only five planets.

Why I do not use a Raspberry Pie?
Why I do not use a Raspberry Pie?
With Microchip Industry at its peak it is not worth investing on technical gadgets.
If I am given the chance, instead of a Raspberry Pie, I would have made my Mini Computer on a Simple Keyboard by integrating the CPU and RAM of my NUC on the keyboard base.
Just stick the NUC circuit board and mini RAM to the keyboard.
Instead of a TV monitor, a Liquid Crystal Display would function as my digital reader cum monitor, ideally folded into two halves.
It is humanly possible to make, such a device and it would be much cheaper but these Corporate Giants would never consider such a venture.
By the way, the keyboard would be bit bigger, thicker and heavier.
The Corporate Giants target is profits.
I started with 4MB Video RAM and 128MB chip RAM to begin with.
Full sketch of my "Globe Trotter" design would be given in my book "Linux Essentials".

Cell Cycle Events
Cell Cycle Events
1. Man and many advanced animals have 50 cell cycles in their life time.
2. Up to 42 cycles are used up by the age of 18 months of age.
3. About 42 to 45 are cycles are consumed by about 15 years of age.
That means for puberty 3 cycles are used up.
4. After puberty one is left with only 5 cycles.
3. There is a condition called progeria where babies are born in advanced stage of cell cycle and rapidly age and die young.
4. If we take a somatocyte from (with mutated genome) a case of this condition one can modulate few more cell cycles to be advanced by culturing under correct conditions with sexual maturation and bald head.

War and Artificial Intelligence
War and Artificial Intelligence is not the End Game.
This piece is to highlight that the "War of Attrition" has no currency when AI is at work. Nobody seems to have understood this precarious situation.
I do not think even China has given credence to this evolving situation.
China is obsessed with AI.
Russia in my belief does not believe in efficiency of the AI operations. It may be useful in a battle situation where surprise is intended. They still believe in human intelligence supervising the AI drones.
I do not want to use the term AI spy agents.
They have boots on the ground.
If AI is given the full control what evolves has no logic or algorithm. Americans do not have reliable boots on the ground and depend heavily on AI gathered intelligence.
At best AI stops at 95% efficiency.
The outlier of 5% is the one which leads to catastrophe in a AI battle of supremacy. The End Game has no logical endpoint but depends on the redundant data set of uncertainty. It is presumed be an infinity but infinity has a different physical connotation.
As for knee jerk reaction, I think we have to worry and suspect Americans who would jump the gun prematurely, on a preemptive strike.
Beware.
By the way, this is an American manufactured war. Russia never wanted a war in Ukraine but they preferred negotiations. It was the war monger, Boris Johnson who coaxed Zelensky into war path. Already one million Ukrainians have scarified their life to war of attrition.
It is easy to start a War.
It is very difficult to stop a particular War.
In human terms at this point of time, diplomacy, may or may not work.
The stakes are very high.
Then man made devices are used preemptively.
We have examples in history and the Atomic Bomb in Japan did end the World War II.
Unfortunately, we never managed to come to term with Strategic Arms Control for a sustainable period of time in our history. The Treaty for Nuclear Arms Control ends in 2025.
There is no attempt to reactivate this Treaty.
Due to Presidential election in USA, no attempt to end this war was envisaged.
Status quo remains fragile.
Democratic mechanisms may fail in this type of scenario.
One man rule like in China may fail.
Dialogue may fail.
We have a vulnerable president in power, at a time where diplomacy is at zero strength.
The end game or end point is in "a state of flux".
When we have unstable leaders who do not have mature advisers to lead them, the tendency to rely on AI is realistic. Paradoxically guys who may be eyeing for a regime change in USA may become proactive.
This was regime change in reverse gear.
The man who envisaged Regime Change in Russia will be a victim of his own devises.
The pendulum swings from war to no war.
Putting the finger on the AI button, is a realistic probability.
It is literally called the "Panic Button".
This is an example of “Uncertainty Principle”, hard at work.
Victory is uncertain but stale mate factual.
Rebirth is the Essence
Rebirth is the Essence
Abhidhamma Explanation
Kamma Nimitta
Depends on the Individual.
Buddha and Arhants, with no remaining Kamma, ends up with no Rebirth.
Ananthariya Kamma that invariably produce results, such as hurting Buddha by Devadhatta would result in almost unrecoverable bad effect or Kamma Vipaka.
Others fall in between have many degrees of Janaka Kamma that may result in higher (Devas) to the lower (animal kingdom) to the humans.
Human birth is very rare.
Gati Nimitta is the ability to foresee the impending birth in a momentary, flash like instance.
Janaka Kamma
The mind or the Vinnana having tremendous speed far exceeding that of speed of light, in a moment to moment of its expression is inherently unpredictable.
It is far better to forget about the time frame in human reference which is a human construction of an arbitrary value (it is a kind of concept).
In physics time is not a substantial entity of nature but is comparatively relative to the solar system one inhabits.
In a moment of time, many, many mind instances occur, in high frequency, so an analogy, is impossible.
The life span of a Citta is termed, in the Abhidhamma, a mind moment (Cittakkhaṇa).
This is a temporal unit of such brief duration that, according to the commentators, in the time that it takes for lightning to flash or the eyes to blink, billions of mind moments pass by. What it means is that the frequency of Citthais tremendously fast and one cannot hold onto any one instance since one fades into another, instantly.
In Abhidhamma, if my memory stands correct, it states in a mind moment, there are 17 to 18 (I am puzzled how it was calculated) thought moments exist.
In my opinion, it is an arbitrary figure which cannot be counted as such.
These thought moments have the Chethana base as a component and they are continuous and spontaneous and one cannot grab and hold onto one instance by will power.
In other words Rebirth is instantaneous and holder of the Kamma (unless one is an Arhant) has no control over the next birth.
In that sense the term Antharbhava is superfluous and has no meaning.
I am stating it as a man with a good understanding of physics.
Chethnaham Bhikkuve Kammam Vadhami.
Gathi Nimittha
So the last Chethana or Kamma Nimitta (Nimitta means impending event that has not yet come to being/fruition) of this life would take us to the next birth instantaneously.
Chuti Cittha
Chuti Citthais the last mental formation in any life form.
Patisandhi Cittha
Patisandhi Citthais the re-linking mental formation
Chuti Cittha (ending of one life) gives way to the Patisandhi Cittha (beginning of next life) of the immediately following life, a natural process.
Gathi Nimittha is the momentary flash of seeing what is coming next and is not an event of any significance in Rebirth Phenomenon.
These Pali words unlike Sinhala or English have subtle but not precise meanings.
So knowing the Pali meaning is NOT knowing the Dhamma in essence.
Dhamma has much bigger and subtle meaning which I have not yet understood.
That is the bottom line and it is not an academic exercise.
Mahayana Buddhism is Antithetical to Deliverance
In my opinion, of Mahayana Buddhism is that, it is the degeneration of Original Buddhist Concepts into regional cultural practices.
Mahayana has added many regional philosophical contents into Buddhist practice outside the main realm. It is actually the Hindu mysticism that has degenerated the Original Buddhist Concepts. Anything that prolongs Samara or the recurring Birth Cycle is antithetical to Buddhist Thinking.
Theravada has one path
1.Ekayana Maggo
Satara Sathipattanais its goal.
2.Uppamado Amata Padan.
Strive hard with diligence on the path of deliverance.
One is truly one's own protector and saviour.
Do not delay the goal i.e; the emancipation.
One might not get another chance.
Human life is extremely rare.
Whereas, Mahavansa willfully delay emancipation by aspiring to become a Bodhisattva.
It is trying to take many paths, mostly rituals, reciting stanzas and asceticism instead of the real meditation or the concentration on the path of deliverance.
One common thread should be meditation for the ultimate emancipation. They are willfully meditating to delay the emancipation or escape from Rebirth Cycle.
It is an antithesis to Uppamado Amata Padan.
Strive hard as, if there is no second chance is the true wayfarer's goal.
Dhammapada Verse 21 is Appamada Vagga
Appamado amata padam
pamado maccuno padam
appamatta na meeyanthi
ye pamatta yatha mata
Appamada is “ without delay” and pamada is being delayed.
Mata is death, and amata is deathless.
Nibbana is so called because those who attain it are freed from the cycle of repeated birth and death. Maccuno is also dead and so is meeyanthi.
Appamatta is not delayed, pamatta is one who is delayed. Yatha is “the true status”.
Heedfullness is the path to the deathless, heedlessness is the path to death. The heedful do not die, the heedless are already dead.
