Simple Update

In the rush to post my Linux UPDATE, I missed a few key points.

1. One does not need to install Linux.

One can test it on a Live Session.

Several USB sticks minimum 4GB but ideally 8GB.

Standard Linux image fits in 4GB.

Linux Mint is 3GB.

BlueStar about 5GB and it has all the applications.

Ubuntu 7GB for its bloated vandalized Gnome with no Applications. I do not recommend UBUNTU.

Go  for Linux Mint which was a Ubuntu derivative and now has fallen back to Debian.

2. One does not need INTERNET Connection when testing.

3. However, in my case WiFi is the first thing I text. One can cold boot and connect to the Internet on the first boot.

Good old days, especially in Ceylon, most Linux distributions except UBUNTU failed to configure WiFi. 

No problem with Ethernet. 

Linux thrives on  Ethernet.

4. Hardware 

Linux now work on any hardware.

5. What you have.

Hardware Specifications.

50GB is more than enough.

6. Minimum Installation.

10GB

XFCE of Debian is less than 5GB.

Rest is for addition applications.

With another 2GB one can add all the applications one needs. 3GB left for /home parition and work.

I have 10GB partition to test this minimum requirement.

Ideally SWAP partition on top.

Twice the size of RAM.

8GB if RAM is 4.

I never give above 16GB.

One should use the DVD 1 of Debian.

It has 8 or 9 Desktops.

One can install one or all.

XFCE is the Smallest and is less than 5GB.

7. For Modest Operations

120GB

EFI 1.2GB FAT 32 partition

/ 20GB for root

/boot  500 to 700MB

/home  70GB

/var   7GB

/tem  3GB

8. 100GB for NTFS partition for storage.

7. 4GB RAM and 8GB ideal.

More if you are a gamer.

I do not talk about gaming.

Linux is for serious work.

With maximum capacity of my work I only used 2GB of RAM out of 8GB.

There is a lot to choose and I have 5 distributions in a 320GB Toshiba Hard Disk. Toshiba is pretty good.

Hard disk type also matters. 

I have never used SONY.

Void Linux Install -Failed

I tried all the methods but failed to install Void Linux.

There are only two images Niri and Xfce.

I tried Xfce.

With su and void password no install command.

I gave up.

There normal amd musl Images 

No graphic install.

Text Based Installer is excellent with lot of instruction through the install.

This ideal for Developers.

I am not.

Number of applications are limited.

I always say, BlueStar Linux KDE desktop is the most Beautiful Desktop of all.

May be three to four years ago, I found its image and installed it, without knowing how ARCH Linux works.

I am a Gnome guy and I used to hate KDE.

BlueStar Linux changed my views about KDE. Not only that I really got hooked to ARCH. I tested every ARCH Distribution and when I found CachyOS on top of distrowatch list. I have a copy of CachyOS and learning curve was steep.

Coming back to BlueStsr Linux, I got a real liking for Octapi Installer.

Guy who had used only Synaptic Package Manager all my life and this was a new experience.

I installed Gnome on top of KDE using BlueStar Linux. It was difficult but I had used Netrunner Linux (gone dormant still in Bookworm kernel )Linux which was beautiful KDE Desktop with Synaptic Package Manager.

Best of both worlds.

I hope if develooer guys of Netrunner reads this, buck up and get updated to Trixie Kernel.

However, I could not get Gnome on top of Netrunner KDE.

Come BlueStar Linux, Gnome on top of BlueStar Star KDE is as elegant but with bit of hicough with Cairo Desktop.

I really like the Cairo Desktop of Emmabantus that come from France.

Version 6 is still in development stage with lot of applications.

But BlueStar Linux much more versatile.

Now for a guy or girl using BlueStar Linux I have a few guidelines.

1. Download the latest iso and write it on a USB.

2. Boot up but do not configure the WiFi or do not plug in the Ethernet.

3. Install the basic install utility.

4. Now configure the Internet.

Without Internet no more applications.

5. Using Octapi UPDATE the system.

ARCH is Rolling distribution.

6. I generally reboot to free the cache.

7. One need not install anything else.

Everything is there.

In my case I install AbiWord.

Both AbiWord and LibreOffice are the lastest. Unlike good old days I can open a abi file in LibreOffice.

AbiWord of course would open any word file by default.

8. If you are confident now try installing Gnome. 

No spoon feedings

Trial and Error leaning is mandatory.

You can install Cutefush and Cosmic.

Pantheon did not work

I actually HATE Elementary OS.

Only tried once very very long time ago.

9. Mistake I did.

I gave standard 20GB for the root partition.

With full KDE install only 2GB left.

Added 5GB reducing/home and /var partitions.

Basic install takes only 15GB.

I had 10GB left for GNOME and its repotoire of applications.

It took over 1200GB.

I needed GNOME Boxes.

It is as big as Blender.

I install Blender first.

10. By the way all these are available in Debian Gnome.

That is my workhorse.

BlueStar is the testing distribution which edges CachyOS by a little margin.

I said good bye to Manjaro

Why? 

It is too easy to install. 

I need make mistakes.

Manjaro has the best GRUB, even better than GNOME GRUB.

If you are knew to ARCH, start with Manjaro. It is also a very beautiful distribution.

It has Gnome, KDE, XFCE and community spin Isos.

VOID Linux is Superb

After a few months of lapse, I installed Void Linux using the Terminal.

I used XFCE image to boot

Step 1

Red all the manual instruction of Void Linux

Password for root is voidlinux

It takes the entire disk.

Partition has to be done manally.

Minimum of 3 partitions.

I use EXT4.

/boot/efi FAT patition

/      root of  10GB 

swap of 4GB

No capital letters

No spaces void-install

Run as a root user

Passwords voidlinux

Could not configure WiFi.

This is in response to Rajapaksa Mob Violence.

 

Jathika Jana Balavagaya is revisiting the same mob violence using Police force, in a subtle way.

One who uses violence against those who are unarmed and offends those who are inoffensive will soon come upon one of the ten states.

S/he will incur,
1. Acute pain.
2. Disaster.
3. Bodily injury.
4. Grievous sickness.
5.  Loss of mind.
6. Oppression by the king/government.
7. Heavy accusation.
8. Loss of relatives.
9. Destruction  of wealth.
10. Ravaging fire will burn his house.

Unfortunately these things are happening right now in Ceylon.

AntiX - Trixie Edition - Failed in my System

AntiX - Trixie Edition 

New edition is available.

It failed to install GRUB in my system

It does not have SystemD INIT System.

It looks sleek.

I hope they add all the INIT systems.

I am Installing Elive

Installation was a big failure.

It is the Linux System, I recommend to a newbie. Its installation is SLOW but lot of pauses  and detailed insyructions including making partitions.

It recommends old E16 Desktop for installation but can change it to E27 later.

It configures WiFi effortlessly.

It vam be installed in a single partition which is a plus point.

It has Gparted.

I gave 10GB but it recommends 20GB which is the standard for Linux.

I hope it recognize my GRUB.

It has taken 7GB and I have 3GB left.

Thank YOU, it gave all these information while installing.

It took about 750MB from my 8GB RAM while runming live and installing.

Very important point I forgot.

It got the numbers of my Partition Table wrong.

It read 14 as 10.

It does not mount the EFI partition and I could not select a boot partition to Boot.

I checked the remaining space using Gparted and has only 275MB left.

LibreOffice is 25.2.

One has to sit with it and follow imstructions.

Select and Deselect packages not used which an excellent option.

I used only Inkscape.

Have several browser options including Opera and Palemoon.

Use the Terminal at the End for purging.

I believe Internet is essential.

Glad that I Revited Elive.

It has done a lot to impress even an old Linux User.

I am a pensioner and I wish I could have contributed a few quids.

I do not have an Internet connection.

I used for few weeks and it very costly in Australia.

I love looking at the Terminal which is lacking in Debian except when installing new applications.

It is frozen and I am going for a cuppa.

It got my Partition Table wrong.

That is why it did not boot.

It did not vonfigure the GRUB but did not ruin it.

It would not boot but I know how to fix.

Reinstall Manjaro.

That's it.

No, it ruined my spare Debian Instance.

I have to install Debian swiching 14 for 10 I lost. This is the advantage of having partitioned installation.

I jave to remeber number 10 and 14 only.

Both have 10GB capacity.

Elive only has 495MB for any additional applications and Blender is out on first count.

I still recommend Elive Linux for a newbie.

One learns a lot by making unintended mistakes in Linux.

No Telemetry in Linux-Another Reason to use Linux

Unlike, Google, Microsoft and Apple Mac, there is no AI in Linux snooping or tracking your activities.

It can be used in any computer old or knew.

It is free.

It has many distributions.

I am currently promoting Elive Linux even though my base is Debian.

Above all Linux resoectd your privacy.

Elive Installer

I installed AbiWord in Live Mode but it does not remain persistent after reboot

Version 50 has more visual effects than the old 46 version I have in a USB.

I am inclined to erase both of them and keep the iso image in my NTFS Storage.

 

I prefer writing Cachy OS and Endeavor OS instead.

 

Compared to Elive ARCH has done tremendous service to Linux User base.

Come to think of Visual Effects are very irritating to me and I suffer from Colour Blindness.

I am going to install EasyOS seven in a 8GB USB. 

As far as I know it is the only Linux Distribution that take full control of the 4 or  8GB in the USB.

 

More than two hours of my time wasted but I am going to have special piece in my book.

It is going to fail since two kernels cannot sit in the EFI partition.

At least it gives ample warnings.

User configuration is not before installation but after installation.

One cannot go for cuppa.

It is stuck with stable Bookworm.

It gives a reasonable opportunity to remove applications I do not need.

It is installing Gnome not XFCE.

GRUB is automatic, might even fail.

It has several browsers including Palemoon and Opera.

Google Zoom failed.

It is installing i386 packages which I do not need.

Internet connect is mandatory.

 

Elive 3.8.50 PRO 64 bit 6.11..10 overlay.

I managed to get the Elive Stable 64 bit version and currently installing on a single partition. This is just to include some information in my book.

I think it is going to hang up due to lack of space.

I am going to terminate it.

I am only going to use USB version.

No comment on GRUB and it is short of 3-4GB.

It has an elegant and beautiful desktop as Beautiful as BlueStar Linux but the desktop is XFCE.

It is full of but bit lengthy instructions and it says it needs 20GB space and I gave 16 and it says 3GB is left remaining.

I need to see how it configure GRUB before accepting it.

Worse scenario I would go back to Debian Gnome.

It identified all Debian instances but could not identify the BlueStar Linux and one partition was missing in it's identification and it was partition 15 where BlueStar /root was installed.

 

It's kernel must be the older one not the latest. Installation is painfully SLOW.

It says it can make a persistent volume but it failed last time.

Final Linux UPDATE

Yes, this is the final Linux UPDATE.

I have settled down with Manjaro and CachyOS. I am now, really ARCH confident except on the Terminal. I have said Good Bye, to the most powerful and veritable Terminal. 

It is also same for Tiling Window Managers. I have tested all the other Window Mangers.

I can do all these on Debian GNOME and I begin to hate KDE but keep track of all Linux Distributions.

Simple reason I hate KDE is it is bulky, resource intensive and slow to Boot.

1. Let me dispense with Devuan Excalibur.

It is identical with Debian except not having SystemD INIT.

INIT is the first Start Up process and SystemD does a good job of it with parallel and on demand services.

Why mess with it.

It may be for guys running Servers but not for simple desktop users.

When in the good old days, in the universities where one server managers mamy terminals INIT had six run levels and I mastered it using SuSe Linux which had the best configuration file.

YaST.

Yet another Setup Tool.

The name configuration file probably came later.

SuSe has dropped it.

I'll come to SuSe and Fedora later.

2. Void Linux is a complete failure without a Installble Image.

It fits in with the low resource use with a XFCE desktop I hate. 

Why not add an installble script on top.

3. CachyOS is a class act with a sstrict protocol. It took some time to master it.

It does not coexist with other distributions but I have found a way.

4. Manjaro is the best but I have had few problems with /var partition getting filled up. I sorted it out today.

That is after a long night sleeep.

5. Endeavor OS is good but too, minimal for me.

6. BlueStar Linux Desktop has done an update and I cannot get to Octspi.

I gave up. It had the most beautiful KDE Desktop. They have said Good Bye to that approach.

7. AntiX is pretty good but it is still in Bookworm kernel. Developed conflict with my GRUB.

They should come up with the Trixe Kernel.

8. KIRO Linux is pretty good.

I did not like it's alliance with Variety Wall Paper.

9. ARCH derivatives without a Desktop I dif not test.

10. UBUNTU 

No thank YOU.

11. SuSe 

Leap and Tumble break my heart.

I do not like the dedicated software center away from global Linux Repository

Tumbleweed is good for games

12. Fedora 

No thank You.

It is trying too, many things while not good at one thing perfect.

However, Bazzite is good for games.

13. I won't go above number 13.

I am not superstitious but going beyond this point make me a better Linux Advocate.

By the way, I have tested all the desktops and many Window Mangers.

I stick with GNOM, IceWM and JWM. 

Joe's Window Manager based on X11 Window System from which all the Window Systems came to being.

I do not like Wayland, compositers and compiz.

Final note about NTFS.

Linux, rather Gparted support many file formats.

I use Ext4 and begin to hate Btrfs.

I do not do TimeShifts.

My NUC with 320GB with 5 districbutions I have another distribution to fall back to. I have never lost a WORKING file after starting, Linux 25 years ago. Of course, I have hundred of copies to fall back to mainly my books in edit mode.

I used to have a big /home partition mainly to store Linux images going up to 20 to 25 of the latest. 

This was a bit of a paranoia.

I solved this by reserving 100GB out of 320 to two NTFS patitions. Only for saving. I do not have Microsoft files at all to read and write. 

It is used to store all Linux Images including 25 Puppy Linux Images and my book files. Puppy Linux except Easy OS and SLACK has gone into hibernation after 32 bit to 64 bit transition. 

I have Easy Linux in a USB stick which I carry when I travel. Other USB sticks are used for install.

Two Debian Trixe DVD-1, just in case which never failed me.

I just keep a BlueStar Linux and Reborn Linux in  USB sticks since it not installed.

Sorry, I forget to include REBORN OS in thr list of 12. I could not put it at numb👍13.

REBIRTH is life long interest of me as a Buddhist.

Elive Linux and the Enlightenment Desktop

Enlightenment desktop is one of the most beautiful desktops, I have used in the past.

In fact I did forget the name Elive Linux.

They sent me two images both 32 bit and 64 bits within 10 minutes.

I think it is worth paying a contribution and getting their latest image. I haven't got a space to install but I will try it on the single partition.

To begin with the name itself puts me off. 

It is identical to Trixie without SystemD.

Installer is text based and very painful.

I ran it on Gnome Box Utility and took about one hour.

I was doing other things.

I do not recommend it to a newbie.

Reason is I have to write very short account about ion my book. Without going through the pain I cannot describe it.

Only advantage was with I could pick up names of a few utilities which I am forgetting in my twilight years.

Yes, I went through this pain of using text based installer, but then again, I was learning every bit of Linux. 

In my NUC I have Manajro, Cachy Linux and three Debin Trixie instances. 

One for my regular work, one for testing various desktops and applications and the third one is to test the lightest distribution, which is AntiX but Bookworm image, which confliCtS with my GRUB.

It froze at INIT Level.

ARCH GRUB boot problems

ARCH is a pretty good distribution on its own but except for Mamjaro, two ARCH Kernels cannot sit in the same GRUB file.

Other ARCH was Cachy OS.

For a change I tried REBORN.

It has a beautiful Plymouth but did not boot Manjaro. Did not boot even Debian Gnome.

I went into overdrive and decided to install BlueStar Linux.

It is the most beautiful KDE Desktop I have used with ton of applications.

I had fallen out of it due to one minor problem. 

Cannot use the WiFi.

To be precise the password Registration failing.

That is no automatic update after first install and no Dedktop Selection.

With some trial and error procedure, I managed to configure the WiFi before clicking the install button.

It is currently updating at 94% level.

I hope it gets back my GRUB configuration file. This time I did not touch the mouse but watched the written updates on the console screen.

Patience is essential when installing.

I think it has updated the 22 files.

1574.54MB Download.

3944.15MB when installed.

Takes 94% for the KDE Desktop and I cannot find Octapi. Takes all my resources and I cannot install AbiWord.

Boot Menu is in dark mode and I cannot read it. Besides, I need GNOME, my work desktop.

I am going to Reinstall Catchy OS on top of it. It failed for GNOME.

Problem was /root patition only 16GB.

Repartitioned it reducing the /home partition and incressing up to 21GB

22GB is the minimum, I give Debian, since I add several desktops later.

It worked. 

5GB for /home partition, since I do not download any iso imsge bigger than 4GB for testing.

Gnome take about 10GB.

Smallest Iso of 5.5GB is AntiX.

By the way, Cachy OS is very strict.

If you select a Window Manager one may have to TOIL under Teminal to get a working desktop.

It is somewhat liberal on Browesers.

I stand to correction now. 

I found Octapi and I have many Desktops now including Cosmic. Pantheon does not work.

Octapi is a very elegant.

Manjaro is easy going and I give it's /root partion and /var partition liberal space.

If one installs BlueStar Linux it is prudent not to go for a Desktop at install and there is leeway with Octapi without a Desktop

I always use Octapi Cleaner to free cashe.

History of Ceylon and Tribes

History of Ceylon does not end in 5000 years.

It probably extends up to 150,000 years.

A skeleton was found in our sea which was estimated to be 150,000 old.

Thank YOU AntiX Linux

Considering AntiX, Void Linux is a big failure, it cannot be installed on a hard drive.

Please note that AntiX 23.2 is based on Debian 12.2 Kernel and do not expect Trixe functionality. I installed heavy weight champian Blender and to run it I installed Gnome. Blender does not run undet a Window Manager.

It did not upset my GRUB!

It took only 5.46GB and I have 4.31GB remaining on 9.77GB partition.

I installed Genome and it took 4GB and I am left with only 500MB to work. This just to illustrate even GNOME takes enormous amount of space just like KDE.

It is prudent to use XFCE, if one is hard pressed with hardware space.

By the way, AntiX uses Window Managers, many of them and I choose IceWM.

It has UPDATE Utility, which one should activate after install.

It has Bookworm (12) and Bulleye (11).

I was looking for the smallest distribution to install in my 9.77GB Ext4 partition and I could not find one except AntiX.

I had problem with  WiFi configuration in the past and that is sorted out now.

Besides, it is the only  distribution that supported Opera Browser and it has Vivaldi, Falkon and many more.

Once installed, I  look for two other applications, VLC and Audacity apart from AbiWord. 

I got everything.

MX Linux, I may not use MX Linux again. MX Linux, YOU miss the bus and the buzz.

By the way, its methods are graphic intensive even fot a kid.

Britain in Turmoil

Yes, Britain in Turmoil.

It all started with a conspiracy and not a coup.

 

King Charles started it.

Nigel Farage came to his aid.

 

Plan was to oust P. M. Keir Starmer.

 

Judges were also in the plot.

 

Plan was to find an irregular business deal. They found a few but they were not strong enough.

Plan was to mount s smear campaign against the P. M., on campaign contributions. But in Western Democracy campaign donations are legal.

 

So the only option was an smear campaign and dirty tricks. 

 

Nigel Farage, King and the Judges aligned with the King set things in motion and letters of communication were exchanged quietly.

 

It worked and the P. M. lost his composure and in a single outburst made King Charles a villain.

Bottom line is, King Charles is the least popular of all, with many unfriendly gags floating around. He was jealous and despised the P. M.s absolute control of the Parliament.

 

To add to the problems Parliament stalled on key legislations, mostly on economic issues and also with the relationship with the EU. There is deep division between the EURO skeptics and the EURO sympathizers. Brexit in not finalized especially on trade issues. P. M.'s inclination towards E. U. was a sore point. 

That made his popularity to plummet.

He is for a modern democraticy and the Upper House with old peers doing sweet nothing at public cost is an anomaly where transparency is invisible.

His decision to dissolve the Parliament was a master stroke.

All MPs lose their seats except the Interim Government. 

He is still the P. M. and he still has power.

 

I hope George Galloway, if he decides to contest the gemeral election, gets back to Parliament winnings the seat he lost last time round.

Diversity is essential in a modern democraticy.

It is not too bad, the last election was held in 2025, July, two and half years ago. 

From 2015, no government lasted, normal 5 years. 

 

Politics in UK is fluid. 

 

Why I do not know.

Keir Starmer ending as the next Opposition Leader.

 

Nigel Farage the caretsker P. M. without a commanding majority with minor parties propping him  up.

My Reasoning 

Large majority of Indians and Pakistsnis in inner cities.

They do not like Farage.

They are labour supporters.

The fate of U. K. is decided by immigrants (and not by real British descendants) that include European immigrants mostly of Polish, origin.

I am glad I decided to quit UK in 1988.

 

I did not anticipate England would go down this path.

I was and still a labour supporter but Keir Starmer broke the back of labour party with his ultramodern policies.

His firm stand against the Royal Family, living on public money did not go well, too.

 

His stand was correct but was ill timed.

I am not a fan of the Royal Family.

 

I despise the Royal Family for what they did to Princess Diana.

Halloween, Death and Rebirth

For Buddhist who believe in Rebirth, dearh is not an end but another beginning. 

So there is no celebration or thanks giving involved. 

Having started paediatrics in early 1970s and seen many deaths due to starvation and poverty, revisiting childhood mortality is relevant. 

History repeats, and another epodode under NPP is a real probability when the Health Minister who is only good at cricising others and never himself is running the health issues.

In my opinion, Minister of Health should not do politics but spend all his time resolving problems at hand. 

Getting involved in a media show would make him to loose his seat in the next election and he should not come back to the Parliament through a List MP post.

I have seen many bad health ministers in my time including one Rajapaksa who died in UK undergoing cardiac bypass. 

He was so hated that nobody would dare operate on him. 

My Rajapaksa hate probably started then. 

I could have gone to UK before him but we were bound by 6 year Compulsory Service. 

Ministry of Health was so bad, every doctor thought of leaving it with the first opportunity.

It is same after 70 years of Free Medical Care but nothing is free now except the bed, if one is available. 

Many still sleep on thr floor.

Coming to George Rajapaksa, he died in 1976 and I go by memory that he died in UK. I cannot confirm.

His Mulkirigala seat was kept without losing to his daughter Nirupama.

Even though, we hated him he was loved by his followers and he always had over 50% vote count.

I entered UK in 1979.

He died young under 50.

He would have been 99, if he lived without surgery.

Cardiaci Surgery was so fatal even in UK, those days until one of my Junior Mate from Peradeniya took over the mantle. He had over 100 cardiac sugeries without a fatal outcome.  

Then again one of my friends brother became an eminent cardic surgeon in another location. 

Coming to childhood death in 1970s, I did collect over 50 case reports within 6 months and wanted to write a report to inform the Ministry of Health. One was Communist party member's private secretary's son. 

Forget his name.

This in Ratnapura.

There were cases with CSF Sugar Zero.

That was the level of starvation. 

I did virological studies and took blood samples to MRI on my two weekly return home.

Thank you to Nanda Ellavala who provided us with rice and dhal which were in short supply. We saved him when he was shot by his own wife, reason which I do not know to this day. 

Not bothered to find.

They said it was viral encephalitis but I proved them wrong.

The bottom line is when I returned after my internship to collate and write a report all the BHT tickets were missing. 

So I blame it on George Rajapaksa. 

I made a resolve never to join the Health Ministry which I kept to my retirement but joined the University, instead.

In late 1979, in December I went to UK and got a job in pediatrics which I continued until I quit UK.

I did not confirm a single (under 6 months) death but they were saved with significant handicaps. There was no happy end. 

Those who died had significant inborn fatal conditions including leaukamias and sarcomas.

I had anothet belief that no leaukamia child should die without proper treatment. In one place where, I worked there were 11 kids in full remission. One was whom I diagnosed before leaving to UK who ended up as a doctor in America. 

He was a son of a consulant physician.

But I happily ended up as pathologist and everything including diagnosis was after the fact.

However, 40% no diagnosis was made and I made that category "Kamma Group" in my mind and they are born again, somewhere else.

Rebirth is a veritable concept and Halloween is not necessary in Ceylon.

I never discussed this topic in UK but let the priests deal with it and I pocket 10pounds by signing the death certificate for cremation.

Going Bananas

Banana a day keeps keep you healthy.

Pair it with yougert that add the correct amount of proteins makes you even healthy.

As kids we had the habit of peeling off the fiber part of the skin before eating the sweet fleshy stuff afterward. It has lot of nutruents and fiber. 

Beware.

Banana is treated with many chemicals along the way, and like the chicken that lives longer in the fridge can be contaminated. Washing gently witn water is the solution.

Lot do jot know from which it end to peel off. Top end is the right way.

Putting the banna may make the skin go brown but it does not spoil the inside.

Puttinh it in the fridge is a mistake.

Wrapp them individually and let them ripe one after the other. 

It is a Japanese method well tested.

One banna a day is enough.

It them in between meals.

Banana is natutally alkaline and reduce stomch acidity. 

Do not mix with acidic citrus fruits. 

I avoid or eat citrus fruits when overiped.

Acid in citrus eats into the enamal of the teeth with old age. 

Protect your teeth till old age is my advice.

Banana is an ideal trestment for constipation. One a day is enough

Do not eat too mamy.

They add natutal flavour to smoothies.

I have skipped many other facts.  

It has lot of different sugars and adding cane sugar is the biggrdt mistake. Thess different sugars are  released in a staggered manner and keep the blood sugar stable. 

One does not feel hungry and one may be able to skip a meal.

One busy working days in the university, I skipped the lunch and survived on milk and bananas. 

That I have become a "One Meal a day" man to this day.

Hunter gatherer survived on one meal. 

We can feed more hungry kids in the world.

Three meals a day is very unhealthy. Changing this habit has to be gradual.

The rich Ceylon, Tea kept me alert. 

Tea has lot of antioxidants.

Banana Bread at Mesna Tea (instead of cheese cakes) Center was later addition.

I miss Mesna Tea.

By the way, NPP/JVP have gone bananas and there are lot more slippery dealing behind the corridors of power which the citizenry is not aware of.

So many brands makes one wonder why there so many.

In the 1980s I used to bring loads of Swiss Chocolates on my holidays.

Like I stopped drinking alcohol due to high rate of taxes, I avoid chocolates due to high content of sugar and hydrogenated vegetable oil.

Update on Cachy OS

I am beginning to understand how CatchyOS works. Even though, it has streamlined its applications, it still needs 10GB for the /root partition and ideally 15GB. It needs a liberal /var partition and I gave 10GB. That is if additional applicstions are intended to be installed.

It is a Rolling Release and one need not try to update after the first install which should be online.

Kernel is brand new ? 17.1.1.. plus

One Desktop at install and my favourite is GNOME and add I add Plasma later.

Both Desktops are beautiful and elegant.

It has both Graphical Installer and Octopi, the Command Line installer.

Terminal installer is the easiest.

It is all configured for you and one has to click, the application one needs and and type in the password and say OK. Easiest of all the terminals.

It has Gparted on Live KDE Session of the install image which is 3GB.

WiFi configuration is smooth.

It has several browsers and several Word Processors and Joplin (did not nut Flatpak has Joplin)..

I withdraw all my earlier adverse comments on CatchyOS.

It takes bit more RAM than Debian Gnome but it is more impressive than Debian (sorry Debian my favourite distribution).

I think all ARCH distributions Rock.

Blender which is a huge application got stuck first but with some adjustments I got it running. Problem was space. With adjustment of space and sufficiently large /var partition, I even had few GBs to spare.

CachyOS uses both /root partition and /var partition.

Instead of /tmp partition ARCH goes for /opt partition. /opt partition stay put and unlike /tmp file that can be emptied on boot up.

However, Octapi Cleaner can be used to do clean up after fresh install.

There was a big learning curve and I never read manuals.

Tral and Error is my method until I master a particular technique. I go for my expectations and if a particular application does not fufill my needs, I drop it and go for an alternative.

Linux has lot of options.

I started accidentally with BlueStar Linux which is the most beautiful KDE Desktop with plenty of applications. I had to add only AbiWord which is my favourite Word Processor. 

It has everything in one package and I love ticketing.

If you are new to ARCH, I recommend BlueStar. It gave the option to install online mode in the past but not lately which is good, if you are a newbie.

Endeavor OS is minimal but one can pad it up later.

Then I went to Endeavor and got hitched to Manjaro which is the easiest of all.

There mamy more including Reborn OS which is very flexible, Storm OS and many more which I have not tried.

ARCH Linux storms the desktop.

StormOS has become Stormjara and it is XFCE which I generally hate.

Why go for Ubuntu which is a total disappointment. I used to test each Ubuntu distribution from from Ubuntu 6.

I was never a fan of Ubuntu, once I got hooked to Debian.

Emmabantus which is coming from France is very slow to change and its GRUB is hopeless.

Zorin OS trying to emulate windows. 

I actually hate Zorin OS.

Revisiting Cachy OS and Game OS

I got it running but I won't recommended it to a newbie. Lot of work including updating but I love the Octapi installer.

KDE desktop of Cachy OS is beautiful.

My recommendation is Manjaro and I got my GRUB back with the help of Manjaro. I added Cinnamon Desktop to Manjaro and reminds me of the old time. It is the desktop Linux Mint uses.

Now that I got Cachy OS installed instead of BlueStar Linux there will be no more testing of Linux.

CatchyOS has a handhel image for gamers.It uses ZFS filr system and that means single system boot up. One can use it like Baticera but one has a KDE Desktop and may be a good replacement for Steam of Valve.

Thank YOU and I am not into Linux Games now.

It is a bit of a MESS from patitioning to selecting desktops to installation.

I am trying for the third time.

It cannot coexist with other operating systems.

I cannot understand why it is on top of www.distrowatch.com.

It should come down below Manjaro, BlueStsr and Endeavor.

This is my last try.

10 commits out of 47 for 5 partitions and I used only Gnome.

It seems OK, now.

About 1000MB for download and 2700MB when expanded which fits in with the 3GB image.

It looks it is strick and finicky unlike Manjaro. It is on live mode and updates files while installing.

I made sure to press Yes or Y button of the keyboard.

1124MB download.

3857 when installed which is about 1000MB of updates.

I think it not bare bone but with applications inclufing VLC.

Flatpak included.

No Libre Office.

It is finishing now.

I hope my GRUB is intact. It spoiled it.

Everything application installed after the installation is in the /var partition.With Vivaldi and Brave it filled up my /var partition of 6GB.

I had to install VLC clent but all the firmats were preinstalled. Thank You.

Next time I am going to reduce the /root to 15GB and allocate the 5GB to the /var partition.

I got Plasma and Cutefish dedktops but Blender with 2GB is out.

Took 10GB space and takes 1.6GB of the 8GB RAM which is 0.2GB higher than Debian Gnome.

No Opera but Brave and Vialdi are there.

Next try Blender. Install size nearly 2GB.

I have not revisited Cachy OS for a long time. I should do that before finishing my book on Linux Essentials.

It is on top of the www.distrowatch.com.

If do not do that it us a disservice to the ARCH Developer Community.

I have to erase BlueStar Linux.

My gut feeling is it won't put up and dual boot with Debian and Manjaro with GRUB incompatibility.

It is only 3GB image.

It installs multiple desktos at installation.

It saves time on the long run.

I am going to choose 3 two desktops and one window manager.

It is booted now.

KDE consumes much more resources than GNOME.

Even when idle with a few applications opened such as akregator or in idle mode, KDE consumes 0.3 to 0.4GB more of my memory than the Gnome out of 7.9GB.

Yes, I have tested GNOME and KDE for over three years.

Having finalized my Linux System, all by memory alone, I went to CHAT-GPT and asked all the important questions and it answered my questions to full satisfaction except one.

I did not like it recommending KDE.

I do not have a secretary and I had a few burning questions.

Why Debian does not support Stacer which I used regularly in the past.

I knew it had gone dormant but why?

The developer stopped upstream updates.

In my old age, I do not fiddle with the Terminal.

I was intrigued by the fact that why China is currently Communist and is resistant to Buddhism.
 

I have found the answer.

The Chinese are known for herbal  medicine.

In their quest for plant medicine they discovered addictive psychoactive drugs.

Manna Mushroom is one of them.

The story of South America is similar and they have more variants including Ayahuasca.

The problem is that meditators try to induce endogenous relaxants.

Alcoholic induces temporary euphoria and later toxicity. 

Drugs addicts of Afghanistan (opioids) and world over, fall into the same boat.

ADDICTION.

I have gone into detail how meditators end up with strokes and the latest was one of my classmates who died within 6 month of his meditation practice.

Let me dish out a small passage from a book I never read but fished out from the attic few days ago.

 This is just to make a statement that I have been active promoting Linux for a long time.

It is time for me to have a pause and see the ground realities, see the customer behaviour and the business politics.

I am in defense of change (of course not Sea Change) for good with lot of nice cute gadgets like ipods, tablets and kindle are coming out cheap to the market now.

As far as promoting Sinhala Linux is concerned, there is nobody willing to change the habits.

I could not download Hanthana Linux and it is stuck around 700 odd MB with only two seeders with the server switched off at night.

In the mean time, I have downloaded (at least 30 distributions with updates for testing) all in the Debian 6.0.0 series and currently finishing the 6.0.1 with minor bug fixes.

All Gnome, KDE and Efce, LXDE (which I like the most even though missing K3B ) are fine for Sinhala Linux and it is very stable and one must start using them if we want to Keep Sinhala Unicode as a viable option in the Linux Community.

Having said that, as I stated earlier about Hanthana Linux, the reservations of mine are coming true, sadly since Fedora (this is the reason I stopped using it) is undergoing a Sea of Change (I like the change, though in a business manner, not for the sake of change-people who do not change and stop innovating new ideas will fail in any business let alone Linux) with even the partition types.

I hope Fedora gives option for old tradition of EXT 3 and 4 to old customers.

In the meantime, I downloaded all Fedora Editions (all because of Sinhala Support from 13 upwards for posterity) from 13 and above (I am still struggling to finish CD version of KDE, Fedora 13) and an Old Fedora Bible Book with version 6 for completion.

Redhat was my heartthrob and heartbeat those days.

Hanthana Linux is Fedora 14.5 and probably stuck there not knowing what to do next.

What is striking about the Fedora Community is it has produced a distribution called Synergy Alpha 2 where one has the basic packages including LibreOffice and one can add up other packages after installation.

This is the one, that one should download and have a feel (mind you no support for old Graphic Cards) and I have put that image in my Dropbox for sharing with Linux Lovers.

Even package management is changing.

I prefer the Fedora Community to produce a DVD in the range of 1 GB to 1.5.

I this background Debian is rock solid and its derivative AVLinux 5 which I downloaded yesterday is fabulous with everything one needs including Blender. 

I did not check whether it has Sinhala capability.

I decided to look at the downloads at www.distrowatch.com for the last month.

The customer habits are revealing .

1. For the first time Linux Mint (1) which is Ubuntu / Debian derivative is on top over 2000 (did not change to Unity) downloads.

2. Fedora second (2) over 2000 (sea of change with most numerous seeders all over the world and but with very fast download for Fedora 15)

Fedora 16 is coming soon and thank you very much for seeders.

3. Ubuntu in third (3) place with under 2000 (changed holistically to Unity).

4. Debian is the fourth (4) the most stable under 1500 downloads.

5. Significantly PCLinux (My Gold Standard for stable Live / Install) over 1000 for the first time in the seventh (7) place.

6. Puppy is at eight (8) place with just under 1000.

7. CentOS a Redhat base at tenth (10) place. 

8. Mageia and not Mandriva in the first 10 is a significant observation.

What it proves is customer base is mature both wanting stable and rolling versions and also ready for change.

Like me one should use both, new version for testing and give the feedback to the community and use the old version for day to day working and at the end of the year decide what you like the most and install it and retire for Christmas holidays.

I do not advice one of having several computers like me since my electricity bill is sky rocketing in Sri-Lanka and it is one of the miracles of the present (not pleasantly) and powerful (inside only) government.

At the end the customers are the winners unlike Microsoft base which is trying to change to catch up with the trends but failing.

 I did 48 hour Survey of K.D.E. Desktop and ended up getting a copy which was more than two years old.

The best functional OS I used was about 3 years ago in Ceylon, NetRunner. 

I have used NetRunner over 20 years and what attracted me was, it supported Synaptic Package Manager.

Best of both worlds, meaning Gnome.

Unfortunately, it has gone dormant. It came from Germany.

Then there was Neptune, which also came from Germany but  then it could not match NetRunner.

Problem with KDE is it is a padded up Desktop Environment, and one cannot Install it on it's own.

I started with KDE being a man with an organized Table Top.

Over time I gave it up and got fixed up with Debian which has over 10 Desktops to try.

Neptune has come a long way, and if YOU want to try KDE, I have no hesitation recommending Neptune.

It can be installed.

Plus points of KDE.

1. KATE command line utility I always have but not used it for ages.

I am not a command line guy now.

I moved to Falkon which is KDE based but heavy 

I am a Firefox guy but use, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, Falkon and Midori.

It is 29 years old, it has everything that is needed for a Operating System, and why the HELL, they waited so long.

My guess lack of foresight. 

10. My advice for the Developer Guys is hang the cosmetic dressings, Tiling Mangers and Haskell but develop some games as in Valve, to be successful.

Do not Pop OS (cosmic desktop) and Tuxedos.

Both are proprietary. 

11. NixOS and KDE Neon are doing a pretty job and please help them instead of KDE. I have used them for only testing and not as daily driver.

12. Bottom Line is I used Debian Live KDE and installed it and it is pretty good and stable.

By the way, Gnome OS is out and I did not install it. Last time I failed.

My NUC System is in prime condition and no more testing and I m very much happy with Manjaro, both Gnome and Plasma.

My recommendation is if you want to try KDE try Manjaro KDE. 

ARCH with BlueStar, Endevour, Cachy OS and Storm OS rule all the desktops,

Cachy OS lets you install several desktop up front.

I still continue to say  BlueStar Linux is the most beautiful KDE desktop and I have it in my NUC System with Gnome on top.

Reborn OS is pretty good but it has not updated itself for a little while and is not in my system.
