Graphic Cards and GPU

It all started with a transistor, capacitor and  logic gate when I was in school.
There were no Printed Circuit Boards, then.
I tried a one transistor radio then (not a valve). It did not work and needed a high antenna.
I have up and did medicine.
Did not give up learning transitotor technology and mose code and many circuits and a radio.
I bought a set up with 3 transistors from RadiShack in UK.
I still have it and it is still working.
Duodes were not able then.

Belore is and array of technological terms used in Video Games.

GPU is the actual chip.
Graphic Processing Unit

SLI

Multi Processor GPU
Crossfire

Redeon

GeForce

Built by

AMD

NVIDIA

Memory
4GB VRAM is the minimum specification for gaming.

More the better 32 to 64 VRAM

Core Clock and Boost Clock

Thermal Throttling
Performance drops when graphic card gets heated up.

Good cooling system is mandatory.

Memory clock and Bus clock.

CUDA is the NVIDIA Language

DDR 4 were 24 nanometer chips.

DDR 5 are 14 in AMD for and 16 in NVIDIA

AMD are built in UK slightly cheaper
NVDIA are built in Taiwan  not China are bit expensive.

Manufactured in
TSMC
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company
Samsung
Global Founderis.

How Graphic Cards work?
36 trillions calculations a second.
Video Games
Bit Coin Mining
Neural Net Working
AI

CPU has 24 Cores
Graphic Card had 10,000 cores.

PCB
Printed Circuit Board where all the components are mounted on.

The components are

Memory is GDDR 4 and 5

GPU

CUDA cores
Simple algebraical calculations

Tensor Cores for 3 point matrixes

Ray tracing algorithms  completely new terminology to me.
I started with 512 MB RAM and worked with 1GB RAM for over 2 decades.

My NUC with integrated graphic card has 8GB RAM and runs Debian Gnome 12.7.0.

What a turn around for an old guy like me.
Now elections are over I am back to computer logics and my books.

My book on "Linux Fundamentals" will have a chapter on current technology.

Other components are

Power Supply
In put is 12 volts but out put is 1 volt or zero.
Computers works on 1 one and 0 zeros.

Various ports

Graphic slot that mounts on the motherboard

GPU

GDDR 6 and 7 Memory Chips feed in the calculations to the GPU in Embarrassingly Parallel Computations which are necessary for Video gaming.
