DreamStep is a dream come true of a Hardworking Guy

DreamStep is a dream come true of a hardworking guy

DreamStep
DreamStep is a dream come true of a hardworking guy.

A true developer who adds to the already existing
Window Maker a new twist.
I like the window maker because it is light weight desktop and Debian based.
It runs on smoothly on my ASUS laptop.
It is 64 bit and has many utilities.

The one I like most is the Blender.

It has Gambase 3 my favorite and SciText to add value to programmers.
It has all the programming languages Python 2.6 and Python 2.7, Ruby and many more.
I have pasted below how it come into being.
It is one of the best for advanced as well as newbies getting to "nuts and bolts of Linux".

I hope Linux Magazine should test this distribution and write an introduction, the next year round.

About DreamStep

DreamStep is a custom Linux distribution (distro) that is built from a Debian Wheezy base

It uses Window Maker as the desktop.

DreamStep is available in 64 bit only and comes on DVD (USB / SD media also available).
DreamStep is built from my old Liquid Lemur - Window Maker build scripts.

The Lemur bits were removed. This distro is actually my second run with DreamStep. The original DreamStep was based on Dreamlinux and started with AfterStep before switching to Window Maker. With Dreamlinux being in an off again / on again state, I pulled the plug on the original DreamStep many moons ago and moved on to my other distros (HEKA OS and Liquid Lemur).

Liquid Lemur was my most successful run at distro building. However, due to personal issues I could not continue. So I handed it over to the other devs and stepped down. Once I got my life sorted, I came back. Not liking the direction Lemur was headed, I brought DreamStep back to life and continued to work on my original goal...a hybrid Window Maker. And here it is! :)
DreamStep steps outside the box where other Window Maker based distros are concerned. I morph Window Maker into a more modern, aesthetically pleasing desktop. I call this the "Hybrid" mode or morph. Old school Window Maker users may disagree and prefer the usual Window Maker desktop. For those, I created a "Traditional" morph. A custom tool (Morpher) allows users to morph DreamStep into these morphs. Additional morphs are planned for future releases. DreamStep also has a custom tool (Themer) for switching themes. Unlike traditional Window Maker themes and styles, DreamStep gives you the ability to change the theme for the entire desktop (i.e. Window Maker, Gtk, Icons, Sounds, etc.) in one easy to use tool.
There are several other custom tools / apps in DreamStep. I have a custom shutdown dialog, making it easier to exit DreamStep (Window Maker). There is also a custom Control Center app that is based on the Liquid Lemur APE MAN app. Additional custom apps include; a first-run / Welcome app, a hybrid web browser, apps for panel, conky, idesk, wbar, and more.
DreamStep also includes some pretty fine artwork, if I do say so myself. The distro is still a little rough around the edges, but it IS getting better. I hope that people will at least try the hybrid Window Maker before passing any judgment.

POMR to EBM

POMR to EBM

It is time for me to revisit my medical career 22 years after calling it off for good.

First of all, tribute to all my batch mates living and left us in good time, long before the pandemic.

My batch had a few bad eggs some  of them were 8 years older to me.

I am not the youngest but one of the five youngest in the batch.

Credit to all my younger colleagues who organized the 50th anniversary of our entry into the
University of Peradeniya.

Except the few old bad eggs the rest of my batch mates were
Iconic in their own fields of expertise.

Unfortunately Peradeniya University has gone into abyss simply due to
Area Based Admission which did an irreversible damage to our Northern
Friends and finally to the protracted 35 year old ethnic war in Ceylon.

Ill feeling are still simmering but it is time to reflect the good things of the past and forget the few bad eggs which spoiled the soup.

Changing into a different dimension;

This is just a reminder to
Russia and Ukraine and they should not be a part to CIA and Neo-Colonial Propaganda.

It is time for amicable arrangement but unless this X-elensky is taken out of the equation it won't happen.

He is a virtual curse and in Buddha's Term Maraya's Living Incarnation.

Russia is a great cultural nation one should not try to wipe it out of modern history.

I do not mind American, especially
the democratic hegemony getting wiped out and a responsive conservative or republican government coming to power.

It is inevitable.

Besides politics, coming to POMR and EBM.

EBM or evidenced based medicine is dead.

Reason I do not know.

Most likely in real time, gut reaction, a better term
ESP or extra sensory perception should be given a chance to operate and save a life in real time.

I have used this technique, a few times in my life and it really works
when nothing in medical field works.

PMOR is simple Problem oriented medical records.

It has two components;

1. Back going problems of no current consequence.

2. On going problems one has to be cognizant.

3. There is no futuristic or stock market projections in Medicine.

It is either current or nonexistent (imagined).

This imagined part belongs to the patients and it is matter of how long one can kick on or better still kick the bucket for the good for our planet to recover in real time which is over populated by humans.

The young should be given adequate space and freedom to breath in new ideas.

As a medical person me a pathologist, (out of date) after the fact determination  with no emotion attached to the final report for posterity and for further research.

NADA the Forensic Expert with current expertise one has to balance the judgement and not be paranoid, at all.

Paranoia (partly futuristic) cannot be treated.

Racism is basically a paranoid disease.
There is only one species of human beings on this planet.

Live this moment with
Metta and happiness of Upekka (? equanimity is the closest rendering of this Pali term).

Metta is powerful by itself.

PS.
My interests are not medical but pure physics and beyond the event horizon and nanotechnology.

I will forget to send a Christmas or New Year card to all those who send me the current address.

Regards to Upekka;

It is not forgetting but current feeling with empathy.

Monty Python and Python Programming Protocol (P.P.P.)

 Posted on February 5, 2011
Monty Python and Python Programming Protocol (P.P.P.)

I never thought Linux has any relationship to Monty Python’s play acting and his scripts.

Now I discover python language’s name comes from his acting skills and not due to any programming language as long as a reptile called python.

In my case any programming language is a python to me whether it is C or C++ or Java or Beans (they never spell or spill the beans or code in anyway comprehensible to human mind but to computers only) and sometimes with cobra venom installed in them and any sane guy start hating them.

All these changed when I discovered Linux.

Whether you like or not one needs to know few starting scripts and rooting responses, booting and Grubbing files, if one wants to embrace Linux.

So I did.

Now I hear suddenly from nowhere ‘A’ Level students are made to learn python in schools and act like Monty Python of BBC
.

BBC Basic was the first language I started learning before Sinclair’s Basic and long time before I discovered there is something called C and later Unix
.

By the way, the language is named after the BBC show “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” and has nothing to do with reptiles.

Making references to Monty Python and acting skills are actively encouraged by the Linux community.

Some of Python’s notable features:
Uses an elegant syntax, making the programs you write easier to read.

Is an easy-to-use language that makes it simple to get your program working.
This makes Python ideal for prototype development and other ad-hoc programming tasks, without compromising maintainability.

Comes with a large standard library that supports many common programming tasks such as connecting to web servers, searching text with regular expressions, reading and modifying files.

Python’s interactive mode makes it easy to test short snippets of code.
There is also a bundled development environment called IDLE.

Is easily extended by adding new modules implemented in a compiled language such as C or C++.

Can also be embedded into an application to provide a programmable interface.

Runs on many different computers and operating systems: Windows, MacOS, many brands of Unix, OS/2.

Is free software in two senses
It doesn’t cost anything to download or use Python, or to include it in your application. Python can also be freely modified and re-distributed, because while the language is copyrighted it is available under, an open source license.

Python is an easy and powerful object-oriented programming language.
It was originally created back in the 1980’s, but saw it's first public release in 1991
After the release of Python 1.0 in 1994, it quickly became one of the preferred programming language for the creation of web applications in the Internet, alongside with Perl and PHP.

It’s creator, Guido van Rossum has played a major part in the Python development from it’s first release and has a central role in deciding the direction of the Python development.

Python is often used as a scripting language for web applications in combination with the “mod python” module for the Apache web server. Python’s easiness of use and ability to integrate with different SDKs allows the creation of many different programs for Windows, Linux, Маc ОS and other operational systems.

This is what Eric Raymond has to say about Python;

I had already heard just enough about Python to know that it is what is nowadays called a “scripting language”, an interpretive language with its own built-in memory management and good facilities for calling and cooperating with other programs.

So I dived into Programming Python with one question uppermost in my mind: what has this got that Perl does not?

Perl, of course, is the 800-pound gorilla of modern scripting languages.

It has largely replaced shell as the scripting language of choice for system administrators, thanks partly to its comprehensive set of UNIX library and system calls, and partly to the huge collection of Perl modules built by a very active Perl community. The language is commonly estimated to be the CGI language behind about 85% of the “live” content on the Net.

Larry Wall, its creator, is rightly considered one of the most important leaders in the Open Source community, and often ranks third behind Linus Torvalds and Richard Stallman in the current
pantheon of hacker demigods.

To say I was astonished would have been positively wallowing understatement.

It’s remarkable enough when implementations of simple techniques work exactly as expected the first time; but my first metaclass hack in a new language, six days from a cold standing start?

Even if we stipulate that I am a fairly talented hacker, this is an amazing testament to Python’s clarity and elegance of design.

There was simply no way I could have pulled off a coup like this in Perl, even with my vastly greater experience level in that language.
It was at this point I realized I was probably leaving Perl behind.

Now Guido van Rossum who has a major role in development in Python will join the elite three mentioned above.(Linus Torvalds, Richard Stallman and Larry Wall).

It is not easy to master a computer language but one who has background knowledge and basic understanding of several language would benefit from it.

Jumping into it straight away may not be the best way.

Learning C and Unix, Linux and how scripting done and modules used to take advantage of Linux kernels is necessary before embarking on this adventure.

In any case Linux is the winner.

It is an object oriented interpretive language with graphic capability may be better than Visual Basic but if one needs to advance in programming language one need to know the code and syntax behind the ant graphic interphase.

There are lot of language wrapped behind the Linux kernel and scripting.

It is far better to master Linux and simple commands and scripts before delving.into an advanced language with powerful capabilities.

I still prefer to call it a python with reptilian image because it is a very very long language behind the big modules.

Enjoy Linux and one will enjoy Python too but do not let it wrap round your neck and squeeze your wind pipe and suffocate you.

Better learn few piping tricks in Linux and put the python inside a pipe and tame it
.

Do we think when we upload or download?

 Posted on December 20, 2010

Do we think when we upload or download?
This is the time of the year when messages fly across the web in millions of little pieces.
If my download speed (my subscription payment) is 56 bytes at least 4-6 bytes are taken by the header and we do not get 100% efficiency.

Up time is even worse.

I find only the twitter restricting its characters to 140 (out of 256 alphanumerical code) and the English keyboard has about 36 keys to play with.

Pali has many and Sinhala has little less since our phonetics are as close as to the nature since the ancient dialogue in the East  is as old as its existence and the English keyboard cannot accommodate our language characteristics used for phonetics with the 36 English keys.

My question is our intelligence restricted by our keyboard (or touch-pad for that matter)?

Touch-pad is very innovative and the S.M.S may be fast in the character transfer in the web but both do not fit into our analog way of life.

We cannot transfer our Thinking and Creativity over the web
.

I saw one of my friend’s grandson playing with an electronic “kitty” at a function where everybody was there and the kids were the ones. a vee bit neglected  (adults were fully occupied and preoccupied).

To my amazement the kid’s use of the binocular vision was affected by the little electronic “kitty”.

I did a bit of testing of his eyes (I have befriended him on an earlier occasion) and after 20 minutes of testing I was not sure what was going on.

Is his eyesight defective?

Is the game too fast or difficult?

The kiddy could not figure out how to win.

He was so engrossed that I could not get a word out of his mouth.

The next morning we had early morning chat with the guys of my age who had not returned to their bases.

This was a rare occasion I decided to stay back to attend the next day’s function (many others did not).

One grandad told me that his grandchild had his earphones fixed to his ears from Colombo to Matara and never bothered to listen to anything outside let alone birds singing.

I told him if his grandson becomes a doctor one day he want be able to hear soft heart sounds or crackles in the lung and get it fixed / (corrected) now, not before it is too, late.

On a slightly more frightful context radiation from the cell phones might end up with an epidemic of soft brain tumours in a decade or so especially in our girls, and that would be covered up like coconut saga (disputed heart attacks) by the big powerful companies until they shift to another venture.

Eyes, Ears and Brain can be affected.

What next?

Fingers too with touch-pad.

But none of these gadgets will help creative thinking.
All these gadgets when excessively used hamper children’s creativity!
We cannot transfer our thinking and creativity over the web.
Only connectivity.
Thinking has to be done (fast too) before touching the pads or keys but most of these actions are reflex actions and nobody seems to be reflective in their approach.
Think at least once what the benefits the kid gets (age appropriate games) out of the gadget and what hidden harmful effects are there before you buy it, including choking with the tiny battery.

That is the point I am driving at in this short piece.

Going back to up-time and down-time we need to educate the users, what ever the material they transfer across the web make them very light (quality does not matter) as possible to get the maximum throughput (MP3 or 4 instead of the fully featured family video) so the friend who downloads it will benefit and bystander users will also have enough bandwidth for their work and a very fast internet for everybody.

Follow the trend of twitter which sends millions of messages across with only 140 characters.

In that sense this blogging is on the Gorilla (sized) side but my intention is not to send a message but to make creative thinking possible even in this electronic age.

What we enjoy is analyzing the facts of the message.
That is the food for thought toady

Cloning, Maha Brahma and American Pie

 Posted on June 10, 2011
Cloning, Maha Brahma and American Pie
Maha Brahma (really his assistant) was bit confused with cloning and I need to send him a email with some facts.

Maha is good at making something out of nothing and he never had the pleasure of making something out of something what humans are very good at like making profits.
For example the tea dust costs about Rs. 5 to 10/= for a cup of tea but when tea is made into hot cup of tea it costs Rs.50 to 100/= nowadays in the city.

This we call value added and not profits.

When Maha is thirsty he makes vine (one flavour) from nothing and drinks and there is no value adding.
It nice for humans to visit heaven when they perfected a spacecraft now that Endeavour is in limbo and see how they make things without any value added or taxes and enjoy it in one flavour instead of many.
He was in a hurry and (email chat of course) and I could not dispense him all the details.
We are now doing nothing except industrial action and new entrants-going to be, are doing physicals in army camps, I was itching to let myself go (four weeks of no lectures is not something we are accustomed to) but he was only interested of my dreams and nothing else.

I missed part of my dream, also.

I do not know what happened to the clones (two) and what happen to the originals brothers (twins).
My guess is that clones would have kill themselves and twins would have retired to grave digging.

Regard to cloning if one wants best results one has to clone the cells at the time of birth from cord blood and not when one is 60 years old with some underlying cancer brewing and waiting to hit the wall / fit the coffin
when cells are old like in the Dolly the sheep and will have multiple deficits.

So if any of the present day leaders including Qaddafi wanting to clone it is too late for the going and must try next birth if he do wish to come back to earth for war games.

We have 50 somatic cell cycles and we spend almost 40 to 42 by the time of one year.
From the rest of it, about 5 are spent by puberty and the last of it is all what we have before we drop dead.

In my estimate none of the present leaders qualify for cloning even if they wish.

They know how to clone, in the past 20 years or so and none of the present leaders were under 20, then.

This applies to the kith and kin of the present day leaders if the are of eligible age for cloning.

I hear very damning information from WiKiLeaks.

America is making a stockpile of war heroes like Saddam and Bin laden and incubating them for the next world order.

They used Saddam and Bin Laden for best of 15 years and when they go awry makes 10 to 20 times the effort to get rid of them.

When it happen in Sri-Lanka, they cry “helter skelter oohh’ and cry foul.
I suppose intended use of our man was not accomplished to their wishes, namely dividing the country to pieces of cake to eat.

In Middle East, they waited over 20 to 30 years and when oil resource started dwindling, they make a NATO strikes to get rid of Oil Sheiks.
This is international “War Games’ played according to their timetable and
our time table of ridding of Terror "Made in India Terror" is human rights violation.

There is nothing nothing to beat this duplicity from Bush, to Blair to Obama.

They are all horrible democrats!
I hear very damning information from WiKiLeaks.

America is making a stockpile of war heroes like Saddam and Bin laden and incubating them for the next world order.
They are going to plant them in the Muddle East once the uprisings are over and keep the clones in America for safety and if in case any one of them misbehaves he or she is eliminated and the brainwashed clone is instituted.

That is the next world order coming from America.
They are going to clone IMF leaders, too.
