30 or More Linux Distributions I would like to Use

30 or More Linux Distributions I would like to Use.

This is besides the 25 odd Puppy Linux derivatives.

I am currrntly downloading all the Linux distributions I have used or tested over last six months.

All of them takes about 100 GB of my HOME Folder and My NTFS Partition.

I do not run them over two days like the YouTube guys who test one or two Linux distributions over a Microsoft Base or Oracle Virtual machine or say Linux SUCKS.

My asnser to them is they are Microsoft (or microshaft succkers to make them plume for a few minutes) suckers.

That is all.

However, I had an obsesion on Gnome but to make evrything sweet I have a pieces here to say most beautiful Linux distributions and most of them are KDE based.

Yes, KDE has role oin Linux as much as Elive Linux which is commercial just like Elemnary os and Zorin.

I have special antipathy against Zorin OS which comes from United kigdom.

It only offeres the Base ISO which I have never (I can just imagine what their base is) downloaded otr tested. Their approch also SUCKS.

Do not get caught to them..

Growing Grass Under My Feet

Growing Grass Under My Feet

Growing Grass Under My Feet

It is high time that we calculate the CO2 foot imprint of every living human being on this planet before it is too late.

It is one of the most important mathematical exercise that we can undertake now.

It may be easy to do that on an animal say a cow but it may be an extremely difficult proposition for even a forest dweller of today.

Since he carries his cellphone and at least a box of matches or a lighter to the deep jungle, his carbon footprint cannot be even remotely compared to a
pre-historic man

Where ever he set foot even the deep-sea bottom he leaves behind a lot of CO2 footprints.

What we can do is to calculate it for an average
American and then compare with a Chinese, Indian and a hypothetical man who lives for 60 years.

On the alternative we can calculate for a bull or cow and extrapolate that to a sedentary American man.

American Man eats 3 to 4 cows by the time he is 45 and probably 5 by the time he says good-bye having consumed every possible advantage and resources available on this planet earth.

Then we calculate for a hypothetical bionic man who needs energy for all his activities including his air travel from say New York to New Delhi and all over the globe in one year to schedule,
a typical American company owner.

Then we have to figure out
how many Americans live hand to mouth existence with minimum of a car ownership.

The equations will go like this

1.  5 bulls x USA (poor American)=USA (poor)

2.  USA x USA (Wealthy American) roughly equivalent to 25 bulls

3.  Total Bull consumption  = A x USA X USA (Wealthy) + B x USA (poor)

A= Total Rich Americans

B= Total Poor Americans

4. Now, 3  has to be divided by (American census-minus rich Americans)

5. Now, 3 has to be divided by  (American census-minus poor Americans)

4 and 5 gives the ratio of consumption in nearest approximation to current American Standards

The results 4 and 5 should be multiplied to get a total figure.

This figure should be now divided by the total current human population.

My estimate even without going into nitty-gritty of the equation is like this.

  1. An average American (poor) will have a figure of 1000

  2. A rich American will be 1000 x 1000

  3. Average Chinese is 100

  4. Rich Chinese will 100 x 100

  5. An average Indian will be 10

  6. Rich Indian 1000 x 10000 (much more than that of a rich American)

Indians are very greedy and they want to swallow Ceylon for breakfast.

That is the Modi's PLAN.

The total CO2 foot print of China comes first.

America comes second.

And India comes 3rd even though the population come only second to China since after many years of open policies
some Indian still live and breath air and do not produce much CO2 since their meals are going down including onions.

This is what India call it 21st century progress and
send rocket to the space and moon and still find a way to fail in Cricket World Cup including completing of venues.

While China is barely able to feed its masses India has failed to make a square meal for the poor whereas a poor American eats 100 times equivalent to a poor Indian.

Mind you a rich Indian with a Maharaja Image (and Guys in the Maharaja Corporation in Ceylon)) produces much CO2 footprint than an American.

This equation has nothing to do with the bank balance or capital of an individual except it’s somewhat close relationship with the affluence.

There are some rich people who do an enormous amount of work to decrease our impact on the planet and I appreciate their efforts.

This is an indirect complement to them.

I  want an American Scientist to disprove my equation and discovery and publish a relevant article in the prestigious magazine, American Scientist.

While all this happening I grow grass under my feet to cushion the CO2 foot prints of mine with my urine added to make it’s growth luxurious unlike our banana growers.

Absolute Linux-Install Only

Absolute Linux-Install Only
This another distribution that the developers have thrown the towel for good.

I had some allergy to this distribution but not any more.
Allergy is due to——->
In the early days of my Live CD distribution testing, I downloaded Absolute Linux and by shear accident I said Yes to a command and it took over my hard disk and installed it and wiped everything.
That was long time ago and
I wrote Microsoft Killer on the CD and never tried it again till today.

Almost everybody in the University on token strike (remind me of the old days when we had to strike demanding bread, milk, rice and not coconuts),     I decided to try this on one of my old computers in office which  I had messed up including the boot record and its mouse (PS/2 mouse was fidgety).
I plugged in a USB mouse and started installing.
Installing was on write mode which I like very much and it was like using Debian where everything was configured step by step.
I took a little extra time fearing it would destroy my FAT (now NTFS) partitions used for storing some archived material which I have already forgotten.

True to the statements below which I copied from its home page it does write and reported the faulty on board sound and gave me opportunity to configure USB external sound card which I plugged in.
It is very light on the old computer and had everything including
K3B,
AbiWord and
Libre Office.
I have no hesitation of recommending it for dual booting.
It uses LiLo and could not detect Peppermint I had already installed.

Apart from that glitch it is an excellent distribution for a newbie learning Linux.
Another admirable feature is that when you first time boot it tells you what ought to be done including using a user account.
I had some difficulty finding the control center which is the first entry in the menu because it gives neither Gnome or KDE desktop appearance which is in fact is a remarkable feature what I like the most.

It gets one out of the regimented routine and frees you with new found
Linux Independence.
Well done guys an girls at Absolute Linux.
Mind you it took 11 days to download (the longest but Hanthana Sinhala Linux did not finish after 14 days) by torrent.

Please use the point to point download and I am currently downloading its latest version.
It cannot be listed in  my Live CD/DVD list since only thing
it lacks is a live sfs script and I hope in future it is included by default with UnetBootIn for USB booting.
Desktop oriented, as opposed to use as a server
All-at-once installer with the packages I wanted

Sifting through everything on the Slackware installer was hell.

Lightweight.
Had some older equipment and also wanted to incorporate use of my modified version into my PC repair business — installing it on older machines for customers.
Like to play.
Want the latest, best software?
Slackware was perfect for this as all the headers are left in the packages/libraries so I can compile what I like.
Since I like to script/program, I made myself many little utilities and shortcuts to configure the system more easily.
I do not do that now and i have compltely forgooten byut can learn them quickly, If I need to say Install Brave browser.

I want complete control.

But I want the operating system to stay out of my way.

It is a modification of Slackware.

Fast, stay-out-of-your-way desktop
No Gnome or KDE.
Uses well integrated collection of the best lightweight software to give you most of the things the “big desktops” give you, only  at much, much faster pace.

The software forks used on a desktop: Firefox, OpenOffice, LibreOffice, Pidgin chat, GIMP image editor, WPClipart, Thunderbird mail, K3B CD/DVD burning, Frostwire P2P, Deluge, BitTorrent, 2 dictionaries, a bunch of games — basically any of the latest, most popular Open Source software.

Many script utilities (with friendly little GUIs) to make configuration and maintenance of system easier and still allows manual (text-file based) configuration, if desired.

Package compatible with Slackware minor versions. (ex. Absolute 12.2 -> Slackware-12.2), with a few exceptions: kernel packages, KDE-libs, madwifi, ndiswrapper, svga-helper, a/etc.

Root user can install software or set system configurations.
That’s it.
Perfect for parents and IT guys.
If you want to do something root user is allowed to do, log in as root.
That’s what the account is for.

Why one should not change habits for the sake of market hype?

Why one should not change habits for the sake of market hype?
Why one should not change habits for the same of market hype?

I will ask few question?
One        1
Would you change brand of tooth paste tooth brush?
Two       2
Would you change your razor blade or electric shaver?
Three    3
Would you change your hair cut?
Four      4
Would you change your tie?

Five      5

Would you change your computer or the Operating system?
In my case I will only change my tie.

I rarely wear ties nowadays but I have over 100 ties collected over 30 years.
Some of them were presents.

I have enough ties to make a rope and hand myself, if I need to.

But I keep them in an accessible place not (in the attic) and pick at random when I need one.
But when I look at ties others wear the ties are broad long and intrusive.
It Looks like tie hides your personality.

I do not think that ties have a personality.
But I always get a comment, your tie is short or it is narrow, especially from my daughter.
But I do not go and buy a big one.
Why?
I do not need to hide behind a tie.
I know who I am.

If somebody is inquisitive I go little bit further.
I am going to remove this moment the function is over and back to my base.
You know if somebody is angry with me I do not let him/her
use this tie to strangle me.

This is why our politicians never where a tie in public.

I wish them  do, though.
We do not need fire arm to kill a fellow guy.

Of course police can say he strangled himself (like the guy of insurance agency) in disgust of not coming on top of the preference list.
Real reason is that I am immune to change,  is that if one wears a tie one has to either wear a jacket or coat.
It is not the tie that matters in that context.
It is the coat or the jacket.
The tie becomes an accessory.
It does not matter whether it is big or small it has to match the coat in colour and size.
Who is going to wear coat in this tropical country with temperature over 95 degrees Fahrenheit?

Coming back to question 5 one should not change the computer or the operating system, if it is doing the right donkey/horse work for you.
It is just a waste of time.
I am almost (probably I will go on till December) finished testing Linux distributions.
The latest releases come from now onward till January and I have to check them for the sake of completeness and archiving.
Now this habit of releasing the new vwesrion has gone beyoud end of April?
Why?
Guys and girls are getting LAZY but I do not blame them.
Life is not only Linux and computers.

In fact, I have published my findings in a book at Amazon.
(” My Selection of Linux distributions” along with “Buddhism Made Simple”  in memory of my mother.
They are available now).

The most important thing is that if you are not changing like me, make sure you have an archived copy of your operating system.
After 5 years one cannot find a copy out there in the web.
There are no archives.
I am currently downloading (gone down to four from five distributions i have in my NUC), all the distributions I have used including Antix and keeping them in a NTFS folder.
It is going to be so because of the “sea change” happening.

Tablets and Cloud computing.
I have a nice DVD with all the utilities which I downloaded when I was abroad in 2009.
Linpus DVD, which is pretty good and all the utilities and Amaya too.
I cannot find a archive to download them now.

Instead Linpus Light 1.4 is there which is for tablets.
They are changing.
I could not download ALT Linux English Version (from Russia) like the Linpus Linux when abroad.
It supports schools in Russia and I was thinking it would be useful for us too in Ceylon.
After some hours of search, I managed to find the English Version and I am trying to download it for the last 10 days but could not finish it.
Once the point to point broke at 1.2 GiB.
Then after another search found the torrent and has only two seeders and one is always in sleep mode.
It is currently 2.5 GiB and need another 3 days to download at the current speed.
The bottom line is keep your CD/DVDs safe.
You do not know when you need them.
When you really need a copy it is no longer available for you in the Web.
Mind you unlike Microsoft there is no limit for the Linux CD/DVD to use for re-installing.
That is another reason I love Linux.
I have huge archive now and may never use them for my work but if a guy/s having searched and was crying that he/she could not find a copy he or she may  approach me and kindly
ask please could I have a copy.
I will oblige.
But you must not forget to say “Thank You”.
