Grand Finale-A Relevant Political Hypothesis for Ceylon

1. This is my "Grand Political Hypothesis' that "Failure of Ceylonese State" both in Finance and Governance, the blame goes 75% to NPP/JVP Combo and 25% to the Rest of the Political Parties.

2. The second hypothesis based on the above is that JVP/NPP would be an absolute failure in Governance if they remain in power for five years.

3. The third is that they should be ousted within 2 years to prevent Total Catastrophe.
Just for sending Gotabaya home in two years illegally.

Ranil should be sent to prison on that account.

I challenge ANIDDHA paper and Jayadeva Uyangoda to prove me wrong.
Nimal Ranjith Devasiri can join the band vagon to help his YouTube Income.

Let me give some insight from my work in the University of Peradeniya.
This part is factual and lengthy.
It was very difficult to join the Peradeniya University due to many reasons some are related to academic credentials.
I did not like Clinical Medicine at all but chose it as a service to provide regular income.
Teaching was inborn in me but I delayed it until I got a substinace or maintenance income which I obtained from United Kingdom and partly from New Zealand.

I do not get a single penny from Ceylon and I still sent 50% of my income in Pounds to Ceylon for it's financial viability.

If I see NPP is failing and stay in power more than two years, I am seriously considering pulling out my dollars.

This is especially so, if the prerogative of NPP is to satisfy Indian interests by coercion or by default.

My guess is very soon the dollar will hit above 300 Rupees or more. The bank is keeping it artificially below par to please the NPP. Already new notes have been printed out of context and it's effect will be felt in due course.

I am openly antiindian and "Ravana Visionary" just  like Jayaratne Pathiraarachchi.

Why put money to a till without a bottom.

It reminds me of the Song " There is a hole in the bucket dear Lyser Dear Lyser".

NPP/JVP does not bring a single penny from their carders abroad. If I remember right they willfully discouraged the remittances to Ceylon when they were in opposition.

What I say may not be palatable to Jayadeva and Nirmal but they are factually true. Dharshana had already left the arean on medical grounds.
I hope he comes out OK after surgery.

Coming to the University, I always did part-time work for the University with a good reason. Get the Provident Fund Contribution every time I Leave.
With Rupee depreciating by every year, if they are left unconverted to dollars or pounds, the buying power loses by the minute.
This buying sprees, I used to do on regular basis by simply going to Singapore.
Mustafa of Singapore was my destination.

It used to be Rs.7800/= a return ticket to Singapore. I used to bring baby dolls to my kids which were not available under Sirimavo (thankfully my kids were not born during her time).
I usee to make and wear bushshirts made of Cheetta to annoy party guys in the University.
I used to go to Singapore once a month when I was working in the Private Sector, the salary was bit better than in the Government Sector and I user bargain at the interview for a better pay.

I was a practical man and I used to alternate with the University and the private sector.

I did compulsory service of six years and one more, on the advice of my father who was a good government servant for 40 years and he got a paltry pension.
I used get the pension of my professor in one night locum in London.
I used to say to my professor unless the salary is reasonable, I would not join.

Of course, we had a grand strikes under Mahinda Rajapaksa and we were involved in ousting him not NPP/JVP. They joined the band vagon later.

Let me finish the preamble here.

1. JVP destabilized the universities using regular strikes.
1972 is the first one I remeber.
1973 is the second big one.
We as doctors opposed it.

1979 G.M.O.A organized it.
Of course, we had a Work to Rule campaign and ousted Sirimavo.
Our only request was to abolish the "Compulsory Service".

I was away most of the JRJ regime and no perview of his atrocities.

2. If no strikes, they used to disrupt all the progressive legislatures,  say cut down on unnecessarily expenditures.

3. They always wanted bonuses from institutions that were running at a loss.
Salary increase was impossible in these institutes.

4. They were always against cutting down of the staff to sustainable levels.

5. They wanted salary increaments on just viable institutions.

6. Viable Institutions like Telecom was padded with more and more carder until they were sold to Indian interests.

7. Involvement with RAW and 1988/89.
I was third in their death list.
My crime was working for an USA institute and bringing dollar income to Ceylon.

8. I am British Labour Party guy and always valued contribution of labour party to Worker Interests.
Not a capitalistic guy.
However, current Labour is almost in ruins broghy on by Keith Starmer.

9. I bet these guys have never read Karl Marx.
I tired to find a copy in Ceylon.
I could not find one in my retirement. I asked from one of the Arts Faculty guy who did politics in Peradeniya University. He came from my village.
He told me a few months ago he donated it to the Reference Library of the University.
I used to go there occasionally and hated the dusty atmosphere and the smell of the old books.
When I did my Research Work on Placenta, I did go there to look for a particular Scientific American Journal which had a collection of Review Articles on Placenta.
I bet Nirmal Ranjith has never seen a copy of Dha Capital of Karl Marx.

I guess Jayadeva (his name was different then and aliases is the habit of JVP guys anyway), had read it at least once, which I doubt.

10. Using aliases to hoodwink the authorities having committed a crime just like this monk Bokken Kleppe of Norway.
They always found a way to avoid punishment by normal means.

11. This is to Kariyakaravana YouTuber.
Why don't bring forward a legislatures to punish NPP/JVP guys who killed fellow beings.

12. There are many more up to 20 points but I finish up with one thing I had to do, while in the University.
Catch these guys not necessarily JVP but any guy who steal University Property.
Not things like A4 paper but things like cameras and microscopes.

I caught two guys while on temporary post.
Like a Sherlock Holmes guy I can smell the guys.

One stealing absolute alcohol.
Could not save the bottle by the time I returned from the Dean's Office after reopting the incident, the Chief Technician guy had instructed, the guy to put methylene dye to say it is not absolute alcohol.
He was sent on punishment transfer and he formed the first labour union in the university system, since nobody helped him to come back to Kandy base again. I had a cordial relationship within him inspite of my action.
Nothing personal but technical.
I could not trace him before leaving Ceylon.
Of course, I recored these incidents in one of my books where 37 odd guys I met, in my life in Ceylon were record for posterity.
By the way, I have two books on political evolution of Ceylon at Amazon Books.

Other stealing a microscope.
This guy was sent to Maha Illuppallama and I bet he must be acting as a Professor of Agriculture if not Professor of How to Steal Public Property.
We recovered the bare bone microscope with valuable pieces missing. This happens even at Navaloka Hospital.
I guess these guys were not helped by NPP/JVP guys.

Yes, my bone of contention is JVP contributed 75% of our ills and all the other parties only 25%.

This should be the slogan for the "Newly Formed Opposition Alliance".

I was a political animal and we sent Mahinda Rajapaksa home.

Sending Anura home is chicken feed for his "Global Lying Strategy".

40-Ylmf-ChineseOS
I had some difficulty downloading this partly due to the server (parent) problem and partly due to Telecoms inability to provide uninterrupted service.
Chinese developers have done a good job and hope they provide us a good server and updates.
it is Debain based and attractive adding Google services.

39-ChameleonOS
Mandriva, then Unity and now the next derivative lives up to its name chameleon changes its skin colour faster than it promises in its announcement.
What it has done with 500 MB is an excellent achievement,

This is an eye candy distribution even an apple convert might enjoy.

Like PCLinux-2007 it should develop its own repository and its own community to support. No wonder it will give a healthy competition to PCLinux and a headache or two.

It should have at least 4 versions and like Netrunner2 (Mixture of KDE and Genome but heavy) take few of the Gnome packages into its armory but should not get loaded like the Netrunner2 (do not bloat it).

Make it slim and beautiful that's where LXDE is a good candidate for a different flavour.

Well done guys and girls and develop your home site accordingly to attract new fans.

I am going to be one of your fans.

38-LadyBug-Verte
This the French derivative of SAM 2007.
Even though it has gone beyond the 700 MB (necessary evil when one tries to add additional languages) it is distribution that should takes its root and penetrate the French audience.
I hope French would do honours to Linux (Unlike Ulteo who is trying to shake hand with Microsoft-would be a failure-Wine is there if one wants add Microsoft flavour) by improving Lady Bug.
I know French give respect to ladies in green / orange.
They should have English too, so that they cam get help Developers who work in English.

37-NetRunner

37-NetRunner
Net-Runner-2 is an excellent distribution for a newbie (to Linux).

Even though it is in the middle weight category (MBs) it has everything one needs if one is connected to the internet.
It is a mix of KDE 4 and Gnome without the groggy grossness (Graphic intensity) of SuSe and Mandriva on the graphic (face) front.

They have done a good job of integrating and mixing (it is neither tea nor coffee) the two.

K3B is a value added introduction.

Software management is good and in the tradition of Redhat have placed the packages in categories to select.

Only missing package for me was Skype to download. I hope they will add it next time around.

Another value added contribution is Gambase (for newbies to do visual basic like programming).
NetRunner is something one should have in one's wallet.
Change over rather the mixture (cocktail) may have teething problem but surely nothing the Linux developers cannot address.

Well done boys and girls.

36-OpenSuSe

The long wait is over Open SuSe has produced a lovely Live CD that can be installed on the fly.

The addition of virtual keyboard was an exciting change.
It got almost everything perfect except for ejecting the CD after a Live session.

Go ahead and enjoy SuSe it was one of my favorite distributions when almost nothing was available until PCLinux-2007 hit the market taking over its place and the sea change Texstar started.

I am sure even Texstar would enjoy using it.

Thanks a lot to SuSe Community and all the milestone editions and the tweaking of one of the best Live CDs.

I have just downloaded the Gnome version and soon the net version.

Hope they would add an O.E.M. version soon.

35-SuperOS

35-SuperOS
SuperOS is a distribution that I have mounted on my laptop but rarely used, just to have the feel of Ubuntu for demonstrations.

It has Wine and Skype.

Open office is the hindrance to it's development.

Could have been AbiWord instead and added few more utilities with the new release.

I was waiting for the new release to write home about it but hardly anything new with only a graphic face lift.

The is the price one has to pay when trying to emulate Microsoft.

It probably has something for the laptops but not way above others.
It is of the middle weight category and slow to boot but I prefer it rather than Ubuntu.

My suggestion for its new release is to change it's name to something like Sensation instead of SuperOS.

Linux people should never have the Megalomaniacs names like what you get in the commercial counterparts.

It should shed some of its graphic weights and open office (get open office from its repositories) weight and include blender and gambase (Visual basic counterpart but much better) mobile media converter (like PCLinux genome edition) and iTune compatibility.

If they think like Linux mint and have few more versions including OEM edition surely it can live up to SuperOS .

I think they should drop this megalomaniac name and go something similar to Mint, Peppermint, Imagine, Element and the like.

English names are disappearing very fast.

Grab hold of one before it is too late.

My humble contribution is to go for Sensation instead.

Vanity is another name which may foot the bill but not Superman or Spiderman or Batman.

They only have a historical value.

Linux is too mature to go for Super mentality.

Linux is super anyway!

34-Debian-Live

34-Debian-Live
Debian has entered on the Live CD Flora in style.
It has core, light weight and four (4) light middle weight versions that include, KDE, Genome, Xfce and LXDE.

I like the LXDE but all are equally good and outstanding.
Being the
God Father of Linux its repositories are full of utilities that nobody else can boast.
There are over 31 (I have 12 in my safe) CDs in its repertoire of repositories.
Thanks for following PCLinux's foot path to freedom.Instead of packing all X windows in one distribution robust individual x window systems is the way forward.
Do not forget its nFLUX light weight distribution.
Many thanks for your effort, you can be on par with UBUNTU your God Son soon.
Your grandsons will boast about the grandfather for many centuries to come.

33-Imagine

 Monday, July 5, 2010
33-Imagine
GoblinX which was based on Slackware has changed its name to Imagine and changed its face. too.
Xfce is much better than slow to boot gstandard (? version 3) which was KDE.

It's about turn has made it a sleek, fast and beautiful Live CD that can be installed.

It's graphical installer is different from other partition tools.
I did not test its installation but surely coming from Slackware it must be doing its job without a problem.

It is light weight that is why like it.

Its Viking Map reader and tracer is the one, one should try for a change.
I am very much interested in Scientific and Educational packages including statistics.

This is a weak point in Linux even though there are many statistical packages no one package has taken root like SPSS.

I give 250 extra points for Viking and if they introduce a statistical package as a default I am going to use it like Berry Linux.

It must take a cue from Berry Linux which has Wine and and similar packages pre-installed.

Imagine should take a scientific lean and introduce statistics and a few scientific packages which do not consume Mib like other packages.

Good Luck and I am waiting for their next edition / version to write a review.
Give them a donation or two, too.

32-AVLinux

32-AVLinux
The is the best Middle Weight (version 4) category (1.7 GB) of Linux distributions that I have downloaded so far.

Nealy 12 hours of downloading it (pay for 50 bits per second but it is snail pace of 15 to 20 bits-my Linux computer records it accurately) in Sri-Lanka it was worth the wait and the weight in MBs.

The version 3 has enough utilities and is only 1.0 GB.

It has all the utilities one needs to operate an old or new computer.
It has lots of Audio and Video packages and Blender too.
(XMBC which has problems with configuring the mouse and its resource craving make one feels light weight and happy with LXDE and AVLinux).

A Debian derivative once mounted (Live or Installed) one can download a Linux iso and use Unebooting to make a distribution that can be mounted (OLD-computer without USB booting) with a USB drive.

It is important that one understand the working of Linux before one uses this distribution especially when using Gparted.

This is a distribution for a newbie as well as a savvy.
You can connect your iPod too.
This is something I wanted badly to promote in Linux community, if one cannot change iTunes to another format why not beat it (after having bought it).

Please do not confuse with aLinux which is a peanut Linux derivative which I tried sevearal times but have my own reservation recommending to a newbie.

Note worth Recording
I downloaded Genitoo 10.1 Live CD of 2.5 GB and found that I could not install it on hard disk.
This is what I call Heavy Weight Distributions of no use.

If few MB cannot be allocated for the Installing it is an utter waste of downloading where it takes 12 hours (Electricity Bill Sky Rocketing) to download 1.5 GB (Sri-Lanka).
India may be no better.
I downloaded six months of toil in Sri-Lanka in couple of hours in Singapore, airport included.
I wonder where the foreign aid to develop our infrastructure is going?
Our Ministers cannot even mange Sports including Cricket.
IT they do not have the knowledge of 15 year old computer kid (Wizard).
So be it!

Go and download this distribution and send a contribution too, to the developers.

I have copied its introduction from Softpedia.
Please read the full content from Softpedia.

Directly copied.

AV Linux 3.0 is a LiveDVD ISO image that is a self-contained, full-featured computer Operating System.

It was created using the Debian GNU/Linux Testing branch and Remastersys.

This Live DVD ISO image can be downloaded, burned onto any DVD-R(W) and then booted and demonstrated on virtually any recent Windows PC without any effect on the existing OS.

If the user desires it can be installed to the Hard Drive either on it's own or "dual-boot" with an existing Windows or Linux OS. Once installed AV Linux transforms the users computer into a full-blown Audio/Video Workstation ready to use!

The User Interface features the very lightweight and efficient LXDE 0.5.0 Desktop Environment.

It's well-rounded program selection covers most every common everyday computer tasks, it features a full complement of the best F/OSS Multimedia Applications available allowing users to enjoy Multitrack Audio Recording and Mixing, Video Capturing, Editing and Converting, DVD Authoring and Creation, iPod Tools and much more.

AV Linux also contains Hard Drive utilities making it an excellent troubleshooting and rescue solution.
Keep an Older PC Productive:
Computer Operating Systems continue to become more and more resource intensive, many times people upgrade their Operating Systems in the hope of improving their system only to be terribly disappointed when their existing hardware isn't sufficient to even run the supposed "upgrade".
PC's have actually been powerful enough for Multitrack Audio and DVD Video Editing since the late 1990's but with the latest Operating Systems wasting precious CPU and RAM on superficial eye candy many potentially productive computers end up being relegated to closets, basements, garages and even worse to garbage dumps and landfills.
The chilling legacy of our "disposable" societal mindset is already evident in so-called "tech dumps" in rural China and many other places intentionally well hidden from the comforts of the developed world.
By combining the general efficiency of Linux and enhancing it further with a light Desktop Environment like LXDE I consider it an AV Linux mandate to keep older PC's in daily use.
I've personally encountered dozens of people who truly believe it isn't possible to build a home recording studio without buying a brand new Mac or PC and spending thousands of dollars on commercial software.
The AV Linux Live DVD serves to demonstrate that this is not necessarily true .
There is more to read. Pleas visit Softpedia download.

31-Unity
Mandriva based 238 MB Live CD lives up to the SAM-2007 origin.

It is sleek, boots up fast, has its own Browser named Web or is it NetSurf.

It's package manger is called smart but has a limited number of packages listed.

This is good for a newbie to understand the inner working of a system that is really working and it is more than a base system.

The surfer is basic and has its own lack of cookies.

I cannot highlight a line and change the font colour (I am booted now with it but not rooted!) right now.

Hence, the font is in black.

I would have given it more marks / points if it had kept below 200 MB so that I could have it in my shirt pocket mini CD.

It has openbox and number of other window mangers included in the smart package manager.

I would prefer this to be called the Mini Version but keep it under 200 MB should be the aim.

I think guys / girls in the developer suite should develop this Unity (Call it Manchester United -or it's city of origin - to satisfy the football fans) into a more robust Light Weight category and then the Middle weight category and never Heavy Weight (but slow) like Mandriva and Suse.

Should take some cues from Peppermint and Element and decide when and where to dress it up for the next party or is it the next release!

It has root permission unlike in Ubuntu derivatives (which is a sad lack in spite of many derivatives of Ubuntu).

Overall it is a good distribution and I cannot find anything negative.

Now is the time to go up-staging and dress up for the party.

Thanks for your effort.

Follow the track laid down by PCLinux which is my Gold Standard and become its healthy rival.

You have your own package manger to increase your repository and talents.

Think of an O.E.M version like Untangle.

Then you are on the road to success.

Your Net-surfer is the key to success.

Good Luck.

30-Untangle

Debian has emerged victorious.

Untangle has entered the fray.
It has released its White Label.
The OEM edition.
It is sleek fast and efficient.

It is the next generation of Mini Server one can carry in a mini DVD (currently CD with 444 of MB),

No one can beat you.

Head start is on,
Enjoy it and make a contribution too.

I give 250 points in my point scheme for O.E.M. editions straight away.

With few more utilities a live CD based on O.E.M. can top the 1000 marks!

Next Step-OEM Release

 Next Step-OEM Release
Linux has gone into the next stage of the development process that expands its rightful place and the wider audience.

I was waiting for the pocket solution. That is to carry the operating system in your pocket.

That is a reality now and most of the Light Weight distributions incorporate USB stick use.I feel this should be mandatory to all distributions (Live / Desktop) and come as a the default.

The next most important thing is to penetrate all Original Equipment Manufacturers.
OEM should be mandatory within the next two years.
I can now list two of them.
One is Mint Linux other is Untangle.
I deal with Untagle separately but Mint I have already mentioned.

Come on guys / and girls make your presence felt in every little equipment from talking dolls to thermostat to Robots.

Then Microsoft cannot even catch your tail.

29-MonomaxOS
If one is fed up of Suse and Mandriva (I am fed up with both of them, both while being heavy and make a point to omit good utility packages that are in the commercial versions) this one is for you.

It has shed some of its weight to 1.7 and the slimmer versions provides what Suse and Mandriva keep as commercial packages.

It has XBOX (Multimedia) for which I give 250 points and it's score is over 2000 (out of 3000 odd points which I give for a all inclusive heavy distributions).

It also has blender in it's official version and if they had put the same (blender) in the multimedia version I would have given 2500 points.

This is much better than Pardus which also come from Greece.
I think Pardus is government sponsored and MomomaxOS is a free to make its own decisions.

Sabayon (Slakware) and Monomax (Ubuntu) are almost similar but I prefer Sabayon for its comparatively light weight strategy.

Pick is yours.

If a distribution cannot put its act together with 1.5 GB it is not worth the downloading time in this part of the world (Sri-Lanka).

Our downloading is pretty slow and servers hang up in the night!
Guys switch off the Server (Our Telecom) and go to sleep and that is the time unfortunately I download the Linux distributions for testing.

28- Sabayon

 28- Sabayon
If one is fed up of Suse and Mandriva (I am fed up with both of them, both while being heavy and make a point to omit good utility packages that are in the commercial versions) this one is for you.

It has shed some of its weight from 3.5 GB to 1.7 and the slimmer versions provides what Suse and Mandriva keep as commercial packages.

It has XBOX (Multimedia) for which I give 250 points and it's score is over 1500 (out of 3000 odd points which I give for a all inclusive heavy distributions).

Sabayon (Slakware) and Monomax (Ubuntu) are almost similar but I prefer Sabayon for its comparatively light weight strategy.

If they added blender I would have given extra bonus points!

It lives with it's promise the dream we believe on!

However, it should promote the Live CD much more vigorously than the heavy DVD version.

If a distribution cannot put its act together with 1.5 GB it is not worth the downloading time in this part of the world (Sri-Lanka).

Our downloading is pretty slow and servers hand up in the night!
Guys switch off the Server (Our Telecom) and go to sleep and that is the time unfortunately I download the Linux distributions for testing.

27-Kanotix
Kanotix is has come of age and its KDE is attractive.

Previous version I could not boot and that was one reason I did not write a review.
Now that it has resolved hardware compatibility problem, it passes the 750 point barrier I have set for live CDs.
However, it is on the heavy side being a KDE derivative

26-DreamLinux

 26-DreamLinux
Dream Linux is also going through rapid transformation and one of those very good utilities which is little talked about because of other common live CDs.
It should be within the first 20 but marketing strategy is not up to the mark.
It is above average and I would edit this page when the version 4 is up and running.

OH-GOD-Linux-112
If you a Christian newbie this is for you.
Now that I have secured an iso for myself and the full copyright of that iso's name as Go.Go-F.O.F. Linux I am thankful to God and all Linux Developers for providing me with the download facility of AOGOS Linux.
This is a Christian Slackware Linux which is fantastic to learn Linux Tricks.
It is a version that you can carry your Linux Distribution and the Bible in a Pendrive or a DVD.
I was bit unhappy that this was a zip image especially thinking that I have to learn the Bible to perform Linux tricks.
Being a Buddhist I was more than irritated.
Even though it was three (3 AM) in the morning I did not want to go to sleep without burning an iso.
I am safe doing this since all the other Buddhists are fast asleep now.
I went to Softpedia.
Looked at the page description.
This is a good web page and I could find the way to do it / make an iso.
1. Extract the zip file to a folder named AOGOS.
2. Then go to the boot folder and open it.
3. Find the make-iso.sh file.
4. Open a terminal window in Linux
5. Drop the make-iso.sh into the terminal window and hit enter.
6. Find the iso and make a boot CD in K3B.
Presto!
It writes an image in the download folder as a boot.iso.
It gives an option for you to give a name for the iso.
Please do not do that. just for now.
It took ages for me to find the name of the new iso (name is boot.iso) but I knew it was there since my download folder was almost full.
Eventually I booted up the DVD.
It is good as gold.
It is new NFlux box.
right click not writeclique and go to Firefox and then you are at FreeBible web site.
Well done Boys and Girls (Good Christians) who developed this iso.
Only downside is even the Christians in this country are poor in money affairs but not in virtues, they cannot afford a DVD drive and DVD (twice the price of CD).
I hope a CD iso can be made since nFlux is not heavy in its armaments (sorry, for my terminology this is a post military country now, habits are too ingrained and diehard).
Now let me tell you why I did not want you to name the iso file.
I renamed it as the Oh-GoD-Linux and saved it in my archives for any Christian friend of mine who asks for it will have it free if he or she gives me a blank DVD.
Or I can rename it as Do-Do Linux and give it to any friend of mine.
The most interesting part of this CD/DVD is that it has Laminin as a logo (in its desktop image ) that binds all the cells to basement membrane as an anchor) which is almost a replica of the Cross.
Unlike Buddhists who are deeply divided with all the Laminins broken this DVD and the Laminin will bind all the Christians of this country together.
It is a good Christmas Gift for kids.
P.S. (5-11-20100)
Sorry for the glaring mistakes in English which I think were corrected today (5th November).
Who cares for Queen's English in this country especially 3 A.M in the morning, me half awake and trying to burn an iso and run it to see its virtues.
Even the Telecom and the kids who say I am Sri-Lanka would be proud of my English.
When we begin to say "We are Sri-Lankans" but not "I am Sri-Lankan"
God save the Queen and her English!

Linux on a low budget and RAM

Linux on a low budget and RAM
I was somewhat obsessed with the variety of live CD distributions on offer that I have overlooked the Linux on a low budget and computers both old and new with little and inadequate RAM.

There are many to list but I will mention a handful of them to conclude my investigation of user friendly tiny vinny distributions that I have come across.

1. Geebox come to my mind that is similar to gamebox or media player with needing 0nly 25 MiBs.

2. My favorite is Puppy which is 90 to 120 MBs and there are over 30 varieties.
The last of which I downloaded was EliteOS (with a commercial presentation included).
It is pretty good.
In the Puppy 5 series, the lupu is another celebrity.

3. Damn Small Linux (the one I use when I am in trouble booting and partitioning) is a beauty on its own with only 50 MB.

4. Astrumi (120 MB) is another good one. I think it is a Polish distribution.
The older version cannot recognize LCD monitors.

New ones are coming by the dozens.

5. 4MLinux-Gamer is only 11 MiB and and the standard is 25 MB.

6. Voyage is only 45 MB.

7. xPUD a web browser and media player is 65 MB.

8. The xin-v1 is only 52MB

9. SliTas

10. Tiny Me

11. Finnix is another

12. WiFiWay small 285 MB and Standard 408 (Spanish).

13. Minix is 385 MB.

14. CRUX is 220 MBs.

15. NimbleX was less than 200 but now is bit fatty and has doubled itself to 400 MB.

16. Feather Linux is also another flag bearer (like DSL) of small and beautiful Linux.

Then come to the the partition tools, there are many and one does not need a proprietary software to do partitioning (I have dropped MS partition magic for good but it was the one that saved many hours of sleep (sleepless nights before that) in the early days of Linux experience)

17. gparted

18. partmagic

19. pmagic

20. R.I.P. Linux

20 is a magic number for me.
In studies of evolution (my personal work) if there are 20 related species in a locality that 20 would circumvent any adverse climatic change at least temporarily but if that figure is 3 the species is critically endangered.

With the same context in time to come Microsoft is an endangered commercial species. may be catering for other planetary systems in space.

The host of Ubuntu derivatives that come as TURNKEY should be the fitting end to my list.

The list is endless and my favorites are Puppy. DSL and Feather Linux.

They are the ones I have used comfortably and on a regular basis and have used in demonstrations to show my prowess.

Sorry guys and girls that I have only mentioned your names only and they are much better than my GoGo.F.O.F. Linux which is still under construction with my workforce on extended Christmas holidays enjoying other Linux for relaxation.
They are allowed to copy any good idea free of charge or copyrights.

It is an understatement when I say that they are the most useful when one (I am in trouble) is in trouble or on low in RAM to do the tit bits (not bits and bytes).

Linux Activator and Linux-100
My approach to Linux 100 was purely academic but I never thought that lot of guys. especially the guys developing Linux would care to listen to my comments with any enthusiasm and would take them with good spirit and add utilities that I tend to like the most.

One of the utilities was PHP / MySQL Admin. since in my age and time I am tired of working on a terminal with poor eyesight and trying to work only on command line.

It is imperative that to encourage newbies that come from Microsoft background to get a hang of (good example is myself- having worked with SPSS and Access especially for my research work and trying to do some work only on terminal was anathema by itself) Linux before delving into commend line and scripts.

This is especially so when admirable utilities with graphic front has or being developed are available for wider use.

When these are incorporated in a distribution that make life easy for lot of users who are not full time administrators but have to get involved in administrative functions, especially database management ( for example in Medical Practice).

I thought only a few Linux guys especially the newbies would be interested in my comments as a way of grumbling and wining especially coming from the windows background like a spoiled brat.

Judging by the Linux outputs recently my reservation was ill founded.

There are lot of guys /girls with a global picture with lot of dynamism.

Another reservation is for us in the countries where download speed is hopelessly inadequate downloading a DVD is a nightmare and lot of little CDs are much better than a FAT DVD distribution with lot of utilities rarely used.

This where PCLinux was a trend setter on its own right.

It is nice to see even Fedora 14 has taken a leaf out of PCLinux history and following its foot paths.

Sabayon is doing it (of course they have been doing it independently).

Salix is introducing Live KDE.

I never thought this will happen in my life time.

There is lot of convergence in spite of the diversity.

That is the beauty of Linux.

I hope I never made a comment to hurt any guy / girl doing hard work for Linux with shear dedication.

All my comments were in good spirit since I am a Linux fanatic by choice and not by descent.

If I had made any comments sharp, they were to tone the commercial trends and subtle insinuation by rival distributions to undermine the advance of Linux.

This is happening everyday.

Beware!

I believe in small is beautiful and small (bet on the strength of the hand but not what others have-re-rival companies) is powerful when chips are down and the stock market is tumbling.

It is nice to see UK stock market is following the footsteps of US stock market even 3 years later (US probably anticipated the crisis 2 years before the event, I guess!)

Celebrations without Microsoft from 2010

I am celebrating the third anniversary without Microsoft, this Christmas.

Is there anybody other than Anuradha doing work only on Linux in Sri-Lanka?

Please post an email or comment below so that we can have a private party.

I was trying to catch 100 students (school leavers to train free) from Kandy.

That was a total failure
(blessing in disguise for me) but welcome free time for me to enjoy life with my kids.

Debian is Fabulous

Debian is Fabulous

This is going to be bit lengthy.
It was not my design.
But rain and elections had given me some welcome respite.

1.Rain
Rain is something I predicted many years ago.
Some of my predictions are in my book “Sri-Lankan Water Politics and Water Logic”.

No help from astrologers
No Thank You.

This is mostly due to Global Warming.
I have already voiced my opinion elsewhere, no need to repeat.

In 1957 we moved to Kandy.

We only managed to get our belonging inside and it started raining for 10 days continuously.

That was the biggest floods in my living memory.
The Kalani River overflew.

2.Politics

Regards to the elections, this is the most boring election campaign in my living memory.
It looks like our minds are frozen with “War and Hate” or is it  “
Hate of War
Rainbow coalition has their work cut short due to bungling of the election commissioner's department and the torrential rain.
This is not the time for elections and our astrologers have bungled it.
And our weather men also foul-up their reports.

They were not proactive.

Politicians are clueless.

I think, it is time to rethink and postpone the elections by at least 10 to 14 days.

At least for the relief work to be carried out without political insinuation.
The election commissioner, if he has a humane qualities, takes over the reins and make some bold decisions and look after the “
Pura Vasia”, the citizens, rather the  rural folks or the so called villagers.

That includes the masses effected by floods.

He hasn't got to listen to anybody.
Touch his heart with his own hand tap to his conscience.

I do not think he has the backbone be above politics.

3. Linux= Debian for Rescue
My solution is to have many distributions including Windows.
One has to install Windows first.
Then I quickly installed Abiword, Libre Office and even Apache's Open Office (it has changed hand from Oracle to Apache and Oracle was trying to kill it).

It took a day to find the small Mini CD /DVD containing all the software.
Then I tried all the Linux distributions Live.

Pinguy Linux was a failure (I have stated it elsewhere).

PClinux did get the sound but Firefox was a disaster (no plug in for Sinhala Unicode) and its GRUB only recognizes Windows and Knoppix.

Fedora even though, very attractive, having read a review decided against.

I did not try SuSe since the latest is not out (It has many milestones) yet.

I got the Linux Magazine today.
It has Suse only 64 bits version.
I have tried all the Linux Magazine DVDs and I have had already made up my mind about them (nearly thirty).

So what NEXT.

Nothing but Debian, my ultimate gold standard.
Ubuntu is pleasing but I have never used it on a regular basis.
Peppermint is dainty and skinny desktop.
I need a meaty desktop but now I hate KDE.

It got to be Gnome or Xfce (I started my Live Linux with Xfce Linux of PCLinux with the little mouse, the real mouse I hate but this mouse like Micky mouse I love).

I got Xfce installed in 15GB /Ext4 partition.

That is my love affair with PCLinux but when FullMonty came with bloated tummy, I gave up.

It burned one of my graphic cards (wrong configuration).

That computer has gone to the end of its life time, after 7 years of daily almost 24 hour work. No hard feeling and I dismantled its useful hardware and mother board (power outage) was declared null and void.

No hardware or software problem, simply burnt out syndrome!

If you are trying Debian, do not take it lightly.

Read all the instructions carefully, before pressing the OK button.

It gives you fall back options.

One should be thorough with the partitioning tool.
Make sure it is linked to a reliable repository (not your local or the nearest, Sri-Lanka or Singapore or India).

I always choose USA.

It does a yeoman service even though, some Sri-Lankans hate USA for no valid reason.

Only, downside it took 3 hours to install 1.2 GB.

What that meant was every file out of 1306 was thoroughly checked and updated.

New gnome desktop is fabulous.

I was not happy, though.

I went ahead and installed LXDE desktop.

The xfce, openbox and Skol-Linux theme.

Mind you, it does a good advertisement for Linux specially Debian for schools.
I wanted to download the DVD but it was direct download not torrent.

I will search for the torrent and download in a minute.
Currently, I am downloading PCLinux KDE (1.8 GB).
In case, I need a KDE desktop as a consolation prize.

The experience with PCLinux KDE (2014-12) was very disappointing.
Postscript
1. Debian is Sinhala, Tamil and Telangu empowered.
2. It does not support Firefox (probably for right reasons, no flash plug ins.
3. It supports Chrome.
4. It has over 66,000 software utilities including hamradio, academic and scientific.
Apple and Microsoft can never overtake its marathon record.

My information is AI Generated

 My information is AI Generated

There are few errors but basically copying, what I have posted since 2010 in Google blog post. I do not have a blog post in Amazon.

Thank YOU Google.

Since I have 40 odd books in different topics in both print and digital including Buddhism, Amazon may be promoting my books.

I do not promote myself since it hinders my work.

I am currently working on six books.

Since my name appears in YouTube as a commentator when some guys make false information in the open Web.

This is a new phenomenon after "Jungi Aragalaya" or so called illegal dethroning of a legally elected president (very bad precedence), and also I am considering to quit the internet which I call Universal Junk Yard (U.J.Y.).

By the way, I had the intention of making a Linux CD/DVD and its intended name was "Asokaplus".

I used Suse Linux extensively, which AI missed, and Suse had a "Studio Linux Utility" where one can add or delete certain portions to make a live CD/DVD. For no reason, perhaps commercial interests Suse aborted this project and I made a private web page with WWW. WordPress.com which is PUBLIC now.

This is the very reason, I have gone into almost Digital Zeroing with theInternet. Internet has become a Universal Junk Yard (U.J.Y.) of information.

For me to engaging in the Internet, to counteract misinformation, except on this occasion, is not something, I wish to do in my twilight years.

26 •Linux in Sinhala-Hanthana Linux included (by Dr.Asoka Dissanayake (Medical) on 2011-02-21 12:09:10 GMT from Sri Lanka).

I do not have the typical Motley Fool Approach.

I have waited over a decade to see a Linux version in Sinhala and finally it has arrived,

Our own Anurahdha who was an expert in Linux and especially Debian initiated it well over a decade ago and he produced an experimental version named Sinhala Linux (I still have a copy).

Then after 1994 tsunami he was drawn into presidential task force (had nothing going on at that time) to steer all web applications and e-commerce and the Sinhala Project was push to a back burner.

I have been testing Live CDs (over 150 now, except Ubuntu) for the last 18 months and when I tested Debian 6 I accidentally discovered Sinhala Installation Capability which was a pleasant surprise. I downloaded all the Debian CDs and some DVDs for testing and they we pretty good.

Immediately blogged this fact at parafox and asokaplus (using them for promoting Linux 100) my rambling spaces in the web.

I am trying to distribute these Debian CDs / DVDs after thorough testing

But I personally prefer to install them in English which is second nature to me and activate the Sinhala capability afterward since the Sinhala terminology is somewhat GREEK to me.

Mind you Debian is not for the weak minded and certainly not for a newbie or a novice.

And today I find Hanthana (I live down the Hanthana Range- on the other side of the University) Linux 3.6 GB DVD released which is Fedora 14.

It takes 3 to 10 days to download a DVD in Sri-Lanka and very few will bother to download it.

Now I have tested all Fedora 14 releases and Fubuntu (installed only Fubuntu for further testing) and all Fedora CDs freeze in installation (tried on several of my computers) but did not bother to see Sinhala capability.

In fact, because of this nuance in Fedore 14 I decided to download all the 6 (5 CDs and one netboot) Fedora CDs for posterity.

It has some problem with the Grub file too.

I cut my teeth with Redhat 8 and 9.

Debian I learned many moons later.

Then again Fedora 3 was the first Linux to allow Sinhala font in Open Office and later Mnadrake.

I wonder whether the introduction of Sinhala font into a an experimental Linux distribution is a wise decision (hope my reservation prove wrong).

Anyway we have two robust distributions having Sinhala capability.

I hope Ubuntu will pick the trend and run faster than both of them.

I won't pass my judgement just for a little while!

"Asokaplus" refers to the personal name of the author, Dr. Asoka Dissanayake, who wrote a book titled “Introductory Lessons in Linux”, which is available as an eBook on Amazon. I think this is the only post I made in www.distowatch.com.
I avoid publicity being an medical man in practice.
I am off practicing medicine for 25 years and I bear myself today, before kicking the bucket.
I would post a another post, of course AI Generated but slightly edited.
