SkoleLinux

SkoleLinux
Androids killing the Linux Star!.
With the school season, coming soon, after the rudely interrupted unscheduled election finished by the 8th, if I do not talk about SkoleLinux and wait a while I might even forget about it.
My activation and install of Debian came from WDT (Web Tools Development) DVD.
This is produced and developed by WordPress which I have some soft corner for a long time.
Just remember it is a Debian base and one should install with text based and expert mode and not on graphic mode.
In graphic mode it might freeze (do not skip a single file necessary for smooth running and functioning after install and Debian unlike other DVD based distribution is very finicky).
With so many configuration files (which no ordinary user including me can remember) if one miss one -it does not help you with a prompt (you have to find it yourself) the running a particular utility you fancy may fail.
I got WDT installed first and later got all the tit bits including SkoleLinux.
I got the latest Gnome which I have a love and hate relationship., mostly love.
The Skolelinux DVD is KDE based, which I have an allergy.
One allergy, boots up slow but Gnome is very fast.
Switching from one desktop to another and changing workplaces.
Hats off for new Gnome.
I diid not like the old Gnome.
That was why I used KDE till I found, Peppermint, the light weight champion, to begin with.
Yesterday, I downloaded its Peppermint meta packages for Office.
It took one our.
Without you knowing one can blow it.
So be mindful.
That is why I say have at least three Linux distribution (in addition to Windows, if you are still hooked to it-it is not worth anyway) for light work and real work.
I installed, Ubuntu that came with the Linux Magazine and it had few problems and installed Hamradio Linux over its partitions.
HameRadio Linux is Mate Desktop based and light weight.
If you are old like me with failing eyesight use new Gnome and not Mate since its background is very dull (one does not need graphic for audio and radio communication).
I believe in clear, sharp and contrasting colours for my age (truly speaking, for anybody specially children).
That helps one to do many functions all at the same time.
That is the beauty of Linux which Microsoft (even android) can never master.
So trial an error is the best way but once you gets things in order, stick to it by at least one year.
I am told Peppermint 5 is L.T.S distribution.
In passing there are lot more very good Linux distributions (over 200 in my collection and archive) over there.
I raise my hat to all of them.
The reason being I use only a limited resources NOW unlike the tech savvy hungry young guys / girls).
Even the young guys/girls are engrossed in mobile world.
It is pity.
Not speaking about them is not my negligence but truly due to mobile taking over the mass communication and Android filling all the space.
I hope and pray, that Linux does not end up in grave due to lack of use.
It is like radio killed the radio star.
Androids killing the Linux Star!.
