If Professor Senaka Bibile is Reborn

This piece is on development.

Professor Senaka Bibile Reborn

This is my next book, since I am finishing my 5 books, soon.

I only listened to 5 lectures by him.

But my real mentor was Professor George E. Tennakoon.

Then he moved to SPC and I lost track of him and Pharmacology, altogether.

If I remember right, he did a random study on Vit C and හෙම්බිරිස්සාව.

I was on the control side.

I went on with my Army Drill at University Hockey Grounds during this study period daily finishing with climbing the rope at Gymnasium.

He said there is no difference whether I take Vit C or not but I continued to advocate Vit C since, I did not understand the logic of statistics until I did my own research at the age of 55.

This SAGA or my connection with my Alma Mator ended up,  finishing the "Swimming Pool" long postponed due to wrong contractual arrangements.
I never had a dip.
Two weeks after retirement I was walking back home from the University Grounds and I wanted to have a peep of the Swimming Pool but it was closed.

I never went to the University again, having left a note with the VC to say do not bother to invite me for any Official Function.

On a different issue I preferred handkerchief to tissues since one need not cut trees to produce tissues, if one is using a cotton handkerchief.
The advantage is I clean the handkerchief everyday and 7 handkerchiefs is enough for a weak which I continue to do to this day.

Of course, surgical type of hand washings is ingrained in me.

Then on a different issue prevalent in the public domain where one should not take a bath while having the symptoms of flu, I did have a bath before during and after to keep myself clean and to prove to my mother that folklore do not deter me doing things what I want to do.
I need a bath after physical workout.
My daily workout in the university was the Army Drill.

Then, of course, I did not lose touch with the Traditional Medicine and the effort muted by CMC of Professor APR Aluwihare's practical attempt to integrate the clinical settings of both Traditional and Western Medicine in KMC's Free Consultation Outlets. I am not sure they are still functional.

I was born before Ventolin and Antibiotics.
How I survived was a mystery. My grand father was a Bare Foot Doctor.
සිංහලෙන් සැනිටරි ඉනක්ස්පෙක්‌ටර්.
He was the only Sanitary Inspector who did house to house inspection dressed in British Tie and Coat garment.

Me adopting English dress etiquette was natural progression and me ending up as a Medical Man is no accident. It was already designed in my Maternal Family Tree.

Coming to traditional medicine, ඉගූරු කොත්තමල්ලි steam bath inhalation was the best Upper Respiratory treatment available before Face Mask and Ventolin and Terbutalin, stand alone Inhalers to portable inhalers.

The idea was to avoid Amniophylline IV infusion which is very risky with myocardial arrhythmias.

Still on traditional Medicine, one of my maternal uncles (I think my allergic manifestations come from my father's side) was asthmatic and single.
My grand father was a crook.
I come to him later.
My father unlike my grandfather looked after all his brothers neglected by grandfather until all of them got a government job. None (uncles) of them except me helped him (I was in UK on full-time jobs) when he was down and under.

Coming to my poor uncle in total Respiratory Incompetence "ආඩතෝඩ" inhalation was the last resort treatment or death. He was in our house for weeks on end and suffice is to say as kids we were neglected by my father.

If not for my mother, I would have kicked the bucket in childhood.
That is why I looked after my mother until 91 plus. I was not a big deal. Whole family contributed and I was the full-time coordinator.

It came to a point he had to mind himself and his boutique in Elkaduwa
He eventually died and it was my second funeral visit after my maternal grandfather.

Two points of Medical Interests before dishing out my grandfather the crook.

1. Point One
I discovered Ventolin or its precursor was extracted from ආඩතෝඩ.
Then there were a series of medical material extracted from ඒළ බටු to තිත්ත බටු to බටු.
My interest that was ignited by ආ ඩ තෝ ඩ ended me writing a book of Exotic Plants of Ceylon. It is only 250 pages but my real Botanical Tabulation is hindering the final outcome. I gave up at that point and concentrated on my other books.

The bottom line is 99% of the Western Medicines are pure extracts of plant products.

2. Point Two
This is my medical input and I have some grouse with Dr. Anthony Fausi on this issue regarding Face Mask and other things.

Now few words about my memory.
Professor Jayasena the name I could not bring out from my memory.
Other name was David Icke.

Before I forget I need to make some poignant points about him. He is my paternal grandfather who I hated from my childhood. That was relevant to my father's understanding of his own children.

He was crook.
He was a ladies man.
He used his governmental power keg to abuse and "legally acquire" land around his land.
I was sent there to hide when police were looking after me after smashing windows of aristocratic family. Diya Wadena Nilme came from that aristocratic family.

He married several times.
He had extramarital affairs.
He had many diseases related to sex.
He finally ended up with a urinary catheter.
The point is I had to do all things including taking him to Kandy Civil Hospital.
After the third time I refused.
He eventually died.
It was a big family.
One of his son was a drunkard and he ended as cirrhotic.
I have to look after him also.
After the third I refused.
He also eventually died.
I have to take the funeral wreath, too.
After the age of 16 I refused everything except looking after my sisters' welfare.

Everyone feared me that was due my action at the age 7.
A homosexual guy was boasting of his vices.
I marked him for impending assault.
I kicked his balls and dumped him to a drain. He disappeared and I never saw him.
You can understand my teenage time.
I had a national boxer shadowing me.
He became an engineer.
I became a doctor.
I still need substantial help if I was provoked unnecessarily.

These habits I think I acquired from from Professor Senaka Bibile including wearing the simple bush shirt.

Then again Dr. Palitha Abeykoon and Professor Malcolm Fernando got us involved in Kaduganmwa Survey which I enjoyed visiting remote villages in Kandy.

Teldeniya where our Buddha was born is such a place.

The post is vacant.
I think Lal Wijenayake next in line joined as the NPP/JVP coordinator and preventing this post being filled under JVP duress.
He has no backbone and holding posts in two parties.

One cannot be a Member of two Parties one and the same time.

M. R. I. which functioned badly under him.
I worked there for only 6 weeks under compulsion by Miss Doris Peiris my boss in Colombo General. I reported all the wrong doings at the MRI and also at CGH while sorting out all the blood films for her to review.
One day, I told her I got a good case for you.
What?
Red Cell Leukemia
Do not con.
For 40 years I have seen none.
She confirmed it.
She said: once you finish the days work you ccan go anywhere you want.

I used to go to Colombo Medical Library and read all the reference material.

Soon after I left to UK.

I did a locum for Ceylonese Hematologist but he did not short list me for the post.

I blasted him on our Ceylonese Doctors Party Not on broad day light but under dim lights.
Nobody knew me who I was except one Dr. C. S. Nanayakkara.

I was the only Peradeniya Graduate on that occasion in that Party.

I could slip out after one pint of beer.
That is my maximum while in UK.

They used to bully me like a kid.

I gradually moved myself to Wine and I did not know which Wine, White or Red or Sparkling goes with the meal, fish, chicken and beef.

Then I moved into making Wine from තැඹිලි in පැනිදෙණිය without Yeast.

I did not tell them, I was a Very Special Old Arrack (V. S. O. A.) Guy.

That is my connection to Dr. N. M. Perera.
I called him පේ රේ රා the best Arrack on town.
Then, Keerthi Premaratne the brother of  Dr. Asoka Premaratne brings me a quarter bottle of VSOA on monthly basis until I stopped drinking arrack and transferred to Wine.

Professor Senaka Bibile was a member of LSSP

C. P. in 1943
Leader Dr. S. A. Weerasinghe

Professor Senaka Bibile was a socialist at heart who practised what he preached unlike most of the politicians.

He comes from Bibile Walawwa.

I think he was disposed by CIA in Guana.
The same company who may have had a hand with CIA gives an annual oration.

I never went for any of those orations but post a blog post or national paper article  against the SORDID affair of CIA.

He established a National Formulary and got the leading consultants to contribute articles.

I have one of them as a souvenir in Ceylon.
None in the Medical Library.
