Kolon Thota, Kolon-Wewa and Kolon Nawa

The biggest Tank or Wewa is in Horrowwa Pathana.
Next biggest is the Colombo Wewa.
It occupied the Navaloka Hospital, Navam Mawstha, Hunupitiya and Gangaramaya during Portuguese times.

Colombo Wewa was not given to Portuguese but they were given Kalpitiya where fishing community has many Portuguese names.
Kalpitiya subsequently was used to dry fish. I used purchase them at Halawatha or Puttalam to be taken to Kandy

Kolon Newa means had a bath from Kolon Wewa.

I worked in Negambo for a short time.
During L.T.T.E.  upsurge Tamils from North came to buy products from Colombo.
Guy in Karapitiya helped them.
One day a guy from Karapitiya came and paid Rs.10,000/=. I asked him to sign on the register but he did not. I knew he was LTTE guy and he could not speak in Sinhala. I told him do not come again in English and I might get landed with the police. Notes were brand new and if I remeber right the water mark was missing.
I told the manager to dispose them as quickly as possible and send a word of mouth message to Prime Minister Premadasa that forge noted are coming through Karapitiya.
Police in Negambo was clueless of forged notes. I trained our staff to examine notes carefully before accepting money lest we get caught by the Bankers.
Then of course sons of Presidents started printing forge money and it was common occurrence. I never accepted any notes I considered forged.
