Brought day light a woman's hand back was stolen (9.30 AM) RECENTLY by a known criminal near Heerassagala Junction (near the railway station).

Police did not take action.

People say his records with photographs are with police.

Police protect the criminal not the victim.

This is a reproduction which I penned down, soon after medical hooligans (this is in one occasion I was ashamed of my M.B.B.S (Ceylon) certificate) when they came in numbers and assaulted the Dental Students in the middle of the night, gate crashing a function held in the Dental Faculty. None of the culprits were given proper sentences and some are now practicing physicians. By strange coincidence I was invited to a wedding where a Medical graduate was married to a Dental graduate. I did not see any Medicos invited except perhaps few seniors in academic sphere. I must thank my mother in law who passed away 3 days prior to this function and on her account I excused myself from any celebratory functions till three months Dhana was over. Suffice is to say that I have not attended any student function from that day to now and I will keep that vow till I retire. I am getting some devilish ideas and some quotes from Peter Mark Roget M.D., F.R.S would be appropriate before giving the reasons for my devilish inclinations. First of all Mark’s (I am entitled to address him by his second name simply because I am in my geriatric age and he is a medical colleague without any honours from the Royal Family) birthday falls on the 18th of January and he would have been 233 years old. He recorded his outrage for Napoleon and his petty Officers (His father was a French Pastor),

My devilish ideas originated from hearing a tuition teacher killing one of his colleagues and seeing that there is a devilish trend to advertise their illegal trade on billboards around the country.

I get a quiet satisfaction when I see the polling masters pasting their posters over the tuition masters and this battle is raged in the night and my dog does not sleep accordingly. Even though my dog sleeps well in the daytime and I have to come to work and I cannot catch my lost or broken sleep is my problem. The real reason for my devilish inclination is this frequently interrupted sleep. I have noticed my dog now sleeps under my bed (not unless he is angry or frightened). Poor fellow I believe is frightened.

Coming back to Roget why he was not honoured by the Royal Family intrigued me, perhaps he was Swiss and had French Connection. When I think of the the French and how much they contributed to English Language is a common knowledge, he is now remembered not for his Medical Achievements but for his contribution to English Language as a whole. I sometime think that English is versatile today because of its foreign connections. Few quotes are in order but I would not say from where I got them, simply because these local pseudo-English teachers should do some soul searching before teaching English as a second language. They should do some digging themselves instead of copying what I pen down here for leisure.

Every workman in the exercise of his art should be provided with proper implements.

The compiler of the Thesaurus started his work after retirement in 1840 when he was 61 years of age. In 12 years he (he probably started this in 1805 as a hobby to complement his academic talents) managed to produce the first edition. 28 editions were published during the remaining 17 years of his life. His son John Lewis Roget revised the last edition he was working at the age of 90. His grandson Samuel Romelly Roger revised and publish an edition in 1925.

The paperback edition came in 1953.

He was a chess master and his slide ruler and the knight’s movement over the chessboard without returning to the same square twice were the showpiece and mastery of his mathematical talents.

What have the University and the Education Department done to uplift their spiritual talents except thuggery. When I see this I am less inclined to blame the politicians in spite of my devilish dreams.

I get about 5 to 10 questions a day on Linux, which I have stopped answering due to political (boycotting it) reasoning with election heat on in Ceylon.

It is pretty good better than my book on Introduction to Linux.

I can categorically say one thing for certain, it was our own Anuradha from Kandy who started Sinhala Linux, way back in late nineties and early this century but it went into hibernation after tsunami in 2004 but now it has emerged in 3 or 4 Linux versions I have tested.

They are as follows

1. Fedora 13 2. Debian 6.0.0 3. Sabayon 5.5 4. Hanthana Linux 5. Fedora 15 Alpha ( believe-downloading 15 KDE alpha currently)

My profuse apologies to FEDORA Team for jumping the gun and giving the credit to Debian as the first distribution supporting Sinhala Linux.

I was wrong and apologies are with this little update on Sinhala Linux.
I have dissociated with Fedora from Core 3 but did not use it for 10 versions (3 to 13) for many reasons but it is not the purpose of this writing.

First thing first, it was Fedora 3 that allowed the Sinhala font to be used, and I am proud to say I used it with open office a decade ago when nobody was interested in Linux.

Then Mandrake (not Mandriva) allowed the Sinhala font installation but I was never expecting the Sinhala capability of Linux until now with Anuradha drawn into other work by accident.

I have changed myself a lot and given up all and gone to PCLinux which is only in English and 32 bits version.

Reason being the introduction of Live CDs which it was pioneer from Big Daddy stage.

It has FullMonty and there is a version of it named (not by them, texstar tells me) as apartheid (it means what it says) which has brought bad taste to Linux community (only for white people-Mr.Shuttleworth of Ubuntu must take action now to wean the bad eggs in Linux community even if they are not under his fold).

There is Linux dedicated to Bible and I see no problem with it but Obama in high office this propaganda is something not for the current century.

What I am getting at is, all Linux Distributions including PCLinux should have multi-language capability and I give lot of credit and marks for that. It is now happening in, French, German, Spanish and Russian.

Linux is global and for everybody unlike Microsoft or Apple Mac and multi-language capability is a must.

Coming back to Fedora when I realized that it has Sinhala capability and it is changing fast I decided to download all 5 CDs of Fedora 13 and DVD. I downloaded all the versions of Fedora 14 and I was not impressed and did not check Sinhala capability since Fedora 15 was round the corner.

After nearly 3 days of downloading I managed to have a DVD in my hand and tried it and found the Sinhala capability (I now invariably check for that ability now) in installation. So my ignorance was exposed and I have to correct that right away.

In defense of Fedora, I have all the versions of Redhat from 7 to 9 and Fedora Core from 1 to 3 and now Fedora 13 and above.

Suffice is to say, the most number of books and CDs I have are from Redhat and Fedora even though I did not use it for my work recently. My entry into checking 100 Live CDs was a harbinger and the Rediscovery of Linux Potential and for two years I have been downloading and testing Linux and I am in the final (stage) lap of honours to all Linux Distributions and Communities, especially with multi-language capability.

Not only that I found a Fedora Bible (the book) with Fedora 6 version CD / DVD and bought it to add to my collection and for reference purpose and I am gong to support Fedora with all my heart from now onwards in spite of forgivable misgiving with Redhat Team, sometime ago.

My only concern is that Redhat is introducing so many changes in so little time, will it be possible to have a stable edition like Debian (with many derivatives) for me to use.

I might even consider dropping PCLinux if they are resistant to other languages other than English.

It is time for other distributions to take the lead from Debian and Fedora and take Linux to new heights with muli-language capability.

Sorry for me being political here.

I hate politics of all types whether, it is economic, power, race or language.

Update on Fedora 15 Alpha KDE I have now downloaded and tested the pre-release alpha version and it has no Sinhlaa capability in installation. In addition it has some difficulty in detecting hardware. It appears sleek and my genuine fears already compounded by its rapid change in many areas including file system and program selection make me feel hesitant to recommend for a newbie, especially in Sri-Lanka.

Best bet is to use Fedora 13 and see how it works but download DVD version, (or 5 CD version) and not live CDs (see how it works for you).

This is the same reservation I have for Hanthana Linux which is based on Fedora 15.  

I have not been able to download it beyond 700 MiB but I will keep trying.

Fedroa 13 took almost 3 days with one or two seeds. Debian multi arch is taking about 7 days with one seed. It is painfully slow even with K-Torrent if seeds are not there.

In the mean time I have downloaded many others including CTKarchlive, Trisequel, Astrumi and Puppy and many other small utilities, including sound drivers for Microsoft.

I am also happy to report I managed to download Taylor Swift Swift Linux after about 40 (forty odd) attempts. That was something based on Debian and AntiX (Mepis) and plays a Taylor Swifts song at boot time which was very pleasing. It is meant for low RAM of 256 or so and old computers. Download and try it please if your Internet is fast enough!

SLFP’s Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekera will have to give up on his calls for the SLPP and the Gotabaya Rajapaksa team to have a common symbol if contesting the polls in an alliance between the two parties.

President Maithripala Sirisena has now sent the symbol of Gotabaya and the SLPP into celestial heights with the opening of the Nelum Kuluna – the Lotus Tower of political display and pain of expenses.

The Lotus Bud at the peak of the Nelum Kuluna stands out in both day and night, giving a big boost to the symbol of the political forces that support the candidature of Gotabaya Rajapaksa for the presidency, and the hopes of Mahinda Rajapaksa to be the next prime minister.

The same Lotus Bud also reminds one of corruption that was the core feature of the Rajapaksa regime, the failure of the yahapalana successors to curb such corruption, and promote more of such massive frauds in governance.

The biggest farce of the Nelum Kuluna is the absence of the special features and facilities for radio, TV, and digital communications that were the supposed key services of this tower. It is a travesty of governance that saw a ceremonial opening of a building, whatever its height, which did not have any of the key features it was built for. This is a continuance of the Sirisena farce in national leadership.

This tower gives Sri Lanka another cause for pride, having the tallest tower in all of South Asia. This is very much the height of foolery. Modern communication facilities do not need such heights, and the planners of this tall farce in communications must take delight in the height of fantasy that the Sri Lankan people have been led to, in an age of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Digital Communications.

How proud should we Sri Lankans be at having more of modern ballroom facilities, high class restaurants, one more big auditorium, a museum, and other showpieces of elegance in construction?

This is a display of the farce of building carried out with plenty of Chinese loan facilities, engineering and construction that this country was led into the Rajapaksa-Chinese march to disastrous expenditure. Many of this is seen down South in the Hambantota District, with the Sooriyawewa Cricket Stadium, the Mattala Airport, the Hambantota Port (at the time of its ceremonial opening), and also the Colombo Port City Complex. These great showpieces of the Rajapaksa Regime remain the huge cost exercises for the country, and certainly great profit for the Chinese funding facilities.

Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa was quick to issue a statement about the absence of any fraud in the Nelum Kuluna exercise. The subsequent news items show that President Sirisena has not done a proper search of the Nelum Kuluna cost realities. This may be one escape route for the Rajapaksa Regime, but it certainly does not erase the record of corruption that is part of that regime, where Maithripala Sirisena was a Cabinet Minister and Gotabaya Rajapaksa was a key mover and administrator.

There is not much time left to probe all the corruption of the Rajapaksa Regime. Such probes will certainly blend with the huge frauds such as the Treasury bond scam, the bizarrely costly premises rented for the Ministry of Agriculture, as well as the continuing rise of Samurdhi expenditure, some of the big dirt of the Yahapalana regime.

The Nelum Kuluna will stand out and rise as the tallest symbol of the corruption that has been the operational principle of governance in this country in the past three decades or more. It is a straight tower of crooked politics and administration – with the lotus bud at its peak having petals that stand out for fraud, corruption and thievery that have been and remains the feature of governance whether by the Greens or Blues.

It is a Tower of Guilt that displays the political trickery and fraud that have become the ‘values of governance’ by supposedly competing political forces. The forces that suddenly think of abolishing the Executive Presidency – after the latest election has been announced, while doing nothing about the related Bill that was in parliament for more than one year!

It is time for the social forces, lining up against the corrupt politics in the coming presidential and general elections, to use this tower as the symbol of crooked politics – as displayed by the competing candidates from the main Green and Purple political teams of today. This will remain a lasting and tall symbol of fraud that prevails in our politics and governance.

The Nelum Kuluna must be used as a ‘Pivithuru Kuluna’ – a Tower of the Clean – that the country needs amidst all these corrupt parties and candidates – especially of Green and Purple hues, in the current presidential poll campaign.

I love physics.

A physicist is one who enjoys in abstract thinking of matter (the 5% of the universe we can see) and non matter (Dark Matter is special entity for me) and agrees with a another physicist who has abstract thinking similar to but another (me) or similar physicist.

If another physicist has different abstract thinking to me physicist, we engage in conflict of interest in abstract thinking but I do not destroy his abstracts but I live because of his alternative views that rejuvenate new wave of abstracts.

Neither he nor me be any nearer to the reality, the world we imagine live in but that does not matter because we let the free inquiry takes its precedence.

In the case of a priest, he also lives in an abstract world created by his or her god but he does not let another priest of another imaginary god lives with harmony (very few) or without harmony (majority).

So all those priests live in conflict of abstracts and they die with conflicts.

Whereas a physicist will die in total peace even if he has not solved all his abstract thinking puzzles knowing very well another physicist will take a cue from his or her abstracts.

I have ten or more mysteries to solve or engage in and makes my ripe old age worth living in abstracts but with total Somanassa Citta but not in a deplorable Domnassa Citta that politicians bring to this world with empty promises.

 I did a survey in Kandy and found that in AKURANA and GAMPOLA, Muslim Traders are illegally trading our birds including Hill Mynah and Parrots, at free will.

Gramsewakas, Samurdhi Niyamakas (Ma Ra's appointees) and police solicit bribes and look the other way.

They do not care for wild life.

Their only interest is MONEY and BRIBES.

Some of them are political stooges.

Bird populations in Asia and the US are "in crisis", according to two major studies.
The first concludes there are three billion fewer birds in the US and Canada today compared to 1970 - a loss of 29% of North America's birds.
The second outlines a tipping point in "the Asian songbird crisis": on the island of Java, Indonesia, more birds may now live in cages than in the wild.
Scientists hope the findings will serve as a wake-up call.
The two studies are published in the journals Science and Biological Conservation.

The North America study revealed how many birds were being lost across every type of habitat - from grasslands to coasts to deserts. While it did not directly assess what was driving this, the scientists concluded that, among multiple causes, the major factor was habitat loss driven by human activity.
This study, explained lead researcher Dr Ken Rosenberg from the Cornell lab of Ornithology and the American Bird Conservancy, was the first to "run the numbers" on bird populations.
"We knew some species were declining," he told BBC News, "but we thought that, while rare birds were disappearing, the more generalist birds - and those better adapted to human landscapes - would be filling in the gaps."
The team's calculations were based on bringing together all the bird monitoring in North America for the past 50 years - every major survey carried out across the continent since 1970.
"What we saw was this pervasive net loss," Dr Rosenberg said. "And we were pretty startled to see that the more common birds, the everyday backyard birds and generalist species, are suffering some of the biggest losses."
That same pattern, he added, is likely to be mirrored in other parts of the world. And the situation in Asia, as the other study has shown, is a particularly striking case of a human-driven extinction crisis.

What is the songbird trade?

The buying and selling of songbirds - many of which are caught from the wild - is huge business in parts of Asia, particularly on the island of Java in Indonesia.
Back in 2017, we investigated how the trade pushed more than a dozen species to the brink of extinction.
Around 75 million birds are kept as pets on Java. Many are sought after for bird singing competitions - often referred to as "Kicau-mania". At these events, caged birds' songs are judged on melody, duration and volume. Top prizes for the best singers can earn owners as much as £40,000 in the biggest contests.
This culture, however, drives the capture of birds from the wild to satisfy demand. And that, researchers say, threatens the survival of numerous species.
Harry Marshall, lead researcher on this study, explained: "The trade is estimated to be worth tens of millions of dollars to the Indonesian economy, so it is no surprise that it is a key regional source of both supply and demand for songbirds, with hundreds of markets running across the archipelago, selling more than 200 different species."

Mr Marshall, who is a PhD student at Manchester Metropolitan University and Chester Zoo, led a survey of 3,000 households across Java, which is Indonesia's most densely populated island. From this, he and his colleagues were able to estimate that there were as many as 75 million caged birds living in Javanese households.
There may now be more songbirds living in cages on the island than there are now living in the wild.

Both teams of scientists were keen to highlight the optimism among the obvious "doom and gloom" in these new findings.
Prof Stuart Marsden, from Manchester Metropolitan University - an authority on the Asian songbird trade - pointed out that the national obsession with keeping caged birds in Indonesia was driven by a love of birds.
"I think that passion can be channeled into conservation," he said.
Dr Rosenberg pointed to a striking example of bird conservation success as a reason for what he called his "weirdly optimistic" view about the dramatic decline in North America's bird population.
"In US and Canada, it was the duck hunters who noticed a decline in waterfowl and did some thing about it. Millions of dollars have been put into wetland protection and restoration - in order to have healthy populations for duck hunters.
"That's a model - if we can replicate it for birds that are not hunted and birds that people love in other habitats, we know that bird populations can be resilient and will come back."

දෙවැනුව, දෙමළ තරුණ සන්නද්ධ ව්‍යාපාරය විසින්, ලාංකේය රාජ්‍යය තවත් තීව‍්‍ර කොට, පෙර නොවූ විරූ මහජාතිකත්වයකුත් ඊට එක්කාසු කෙළේය. දකුණේ සහ උතුරේ මේ නැගිටීම් දෙකේ අවසාන ප‍්‍රතිඵලය වී ඇත්තේ, රාජ්‍යය යන ආයතනය, වචනයේ පරිසමාප්තාර්ථයෙන්ම, අවශ්‍ය අවස්ථාවක පාවිච්චියට ගත හැකි කාර්යක්ෂම මර්දක යන්ත‍්‍රයක් වශයෙන් උස්මහත් කොට හදාවඩාගෙන ඇති බවයි.
මෙය, ගෝඨාභයගේ අපේක්ෂකත්වය අරභයා රාජපක්ෂ පවුල් සාමාජිකයන් කාලයක් පවත්වාගෙන ගිය ‘විරෝධය’ කුරුවල් කිරීමට හේතු වූ පාස්කු ඉරිදා ප‍්‍රහාරයට සමාන ය. ‘වියත් මග’ සහ ‘එළිය’ වැනි ජාතිවාදී බුද්ධිමතුන් සහ විශ‍්‍රාමික ආන්තික හමුදා කොටස්වල පමණක් ආශීර්වාදයෙන් පැවතුණු ගෝඨාභය තවදුරටත් ප‍්‍රතික්ෂේප කිරීමේ හැකියාව රාජපක්ෂ පවුලෙන් ඉන්පසු උදුරා ගැනුණි. පාඩම: නූතන රාජ්‍ය ක‍්‍රමය තුළ, ඕනෑම අතිධාවනකාරීත්වයක්, ක්ෂණිකව හෝ කාලයාගේ ඇවෑමෙන්, රාජ්‍යයේ මර්දනය මුවහත් කරන බව ය. ලිබරල් සහ ප‍්‍රජාතන්ත‍්‍රවාදී අවකාශයන් එවැනි අතිධාවනකාරී ව්‍යාපාර මගින්, ඉස්සරට වඩා කුරුවල් කරවන බව ය.
එසේ නොමැතිව, ඔහුගේ අපේක්ෂකත්වය සඳහා රාජපක්ෂ පවුල අවනත වීම අප කෙසේ නම් තේරුම්ගන්නද? මුලින්ම, පවතින 19 වැනි ව්‍යවස්ථා සංශෝධනය යටතේ මහින්දට විධායක ජනාධිපති වීමේ ව්‍යවස්ථාමය පුළුවන්කමක් නැත. ඒ ප‍්‍රශ්නය නිරාකරණය කරගැනීමේ අවස්ථාවක් 20 වැනි ව්‍යවස්ථා සංශෝධනය සාර්ථක කර ගැනීම හරහා ඔහුට අත්පත් කරගත හැකිව තිබුණි. ඇත්ත වශයෙන්ම, ඒ පිළිබඳ ඔහුගේ කැමැත්තත් විවිධ ආකාරයෙන් ප‍්‍රකාශයට පත්ව තිබුණි. එසේ තිබියදී, දැන් ගිය සතියේ නැවත වරක් ඒ 20 වැනි ව්‍යවස්ථා සංශෝධනය පිළිබඳ යෝජනාව ජනාධිපතිවරයාගෙන් සහ අගමැතිවරයාගෙන් ඉදිරිපත් වන විට ඔහු ඊට විරුද්ධ වී තිබේ. ඒ සඳහා ඔහු දෙන හේතුව ළාමක ය.
එනම්, ජනාධිපතිවරණයක් කට ළඟ තියාගෙන 20 වැනි ව්‍යවස්ථා සංශෝධනය ගෙන ඒමට ඒ නායකයන් දෙන්නා තතනන්නේ ඔවුන්ගේ පෞද්ගලික අභිප‍්‍රායයන් සඳහා බවට ඔහු නගන චෝදනාවයි. මෛත‍්‍රීපාල සිරිසේන සහ රනිල් වික‍්‍රමසිංහ සම්බන්ධයෙන් ඔහුගේ කතාව නිවැරදි ය. එහෙත් තර්කය වැරදි ය. මන්ද යත්, ඔවුන් දෙන්නා සම්බන්ධයෙන් පැවතිය හැකි යැයි මහින්ද කියන පෞද්ගලික අභිප‍්‍රායම මහින්ද සම්බන්ධයෙන්ද සත්‍යයක් විය යුතු බැවිනි. හේතුව, පවතින ක‍්‍රමය යටතේ ඔහුට ලබාගත නොහැකි වරමක් 20 වැනි ව්‍යවස්ථා සංශෝධනය යටතේ ලබා ගැනීමේ අවස්ථාව ඔහුටත් ලැබෙන බැවිනි. එහෙත් පාස්කු ත‍්‍රස්ත ප‍්‍රහාරය නිසා, අවසානයේදී ඔහු ගෝඨාභයගේ ජාතිකවාදී ගල් රෝලට දැන් හසුව සිටී.
ජාතික ආරක්ෂාව පිළිබඳ කාරණයට අමතරව, යහපාලන ආණ්ඩුව තමන් දුන් ප‍්‍රධාන පොරොන්දු දෙකම (විධායක ජනාධිපති ක‍්‍රමය අහෝසි කිරීම සහ ¥ෂිතයන්/අපරාධකරුවන්ට දඬුවම් පැමිණවීම* කඩ කොට සිටීමට අමතරව, ආර්ථිකය කළමනාකරණය සම්බන්ධයෙන්ද කැපී පෙනෙන වෙනසක් ඇති කිරීමට සමත් නොවීම නිසා හටගෙන ඇති බලවත් ජනතා අප‍්‍රසාදයත් විසින්, ආණ්ඩුව නොවන්නා වූ වෙනත් විකල්පයක් දෙසට හැරීමේ තල්ලූව ජනතාවට සපයනු ලැබේ. එම රැුල්ලෙන් ඉතා සොච්චමක් (නයි නටවන්නන් වශයෙන් මා හඳුන්වන* ආතක්පාතක් නැති පුහු පුද්ගල චරිත දෙසට බර විය හැකි අතර, අතිවිශාල පොදු ආකර්ෂණය ඇති වනුයේ, පවතින ආණ්ඩුව නිශ්චිතව පරාජය කළ හැකි යැයි විශ්වාස කළ හැකි බලවේගය සහ පුද්ගලයා කෙරෙහි ය. ඒ ගෝඨාභය රාජපක්ෂයි. මුලින්, ඔබ ‘ජාතික ආරක්ෂාව’ පිළිබඳ අත්‍යාසන්න අවශ්‍යතාව ගොඩනංවයි. ඊළඟට, ගෝඨාභය නමැති ජාතික ආරක්ෂාව නිෂ්පාදනය කරන්නාව ඉදිරිපත් කරයි.
ඔහුගේ අතීතයෙන්, ප‍්‍රජාතන්ත‍්‍රවාදියෙකුගේ නූල් පොටක්වත් සොයාගත නොහැකි බව රටම දනී. ඔහු ජනාධිපති වුවහොත් අගමැති වන්නේ මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ නිසා, යම් තරමකට ඔහු පාලනය කිරීමට මහින්ද අයියාට හැකි වනු ඇතැයි ඔහුගේ තවත් සහෝදරයෙකු වන බැසිල් රාජපක්ෂම කියා තිබීමෙන් පෙනී යන්නේ, ගෝඨාභයගේ තරම ඔහුගේම සහෝදරයා පවා ප‍්‍රතික්ෂේප නොකරන බවයි. ගෝඨාභය රාජපක්ෂ ජයග‍්‍රහණය කැරැුවීමෙන් ජාතික ආරක්ෂාව, කාර්යක්ෂමතාව, ¥ෂණයෙන් තොර වීම ආදි අපේක්ෂා කිසිවක් සාධනය නොවේ. ඔහු අනිවාර්යයෙන්ම ෆැසිස්ට් පාලනයක් කරා ගමන් කරනු ඇති බවත්, බොහෝ විට මර්දක රාජ්‍ය යන්ත‍්‍රයක් හරහා, ලංකාවේ පෙර නොවූ විරූ ඒකාධිපතියෙකු සේ ස්ථාපිත විය හැකි බවත් පැහැදිලි ය.
ලංකාවේ ප‍්‍රජාතන්ත‍්‍රවාදය අද්‍යතනයේ මුහුණදෙන අත්‍යාසන්න ප‍්‍රශ්නය වන්නේ ගෝඨාභයගේ ජයග‍්‍රහණය නතර කළ හැක්කේ කෙසේද යන්නයි. ඒ ප‍්‍රශ්නය සමග තව කාරණා කිහිපයක් ගැටගැසී තිබේ. එයින් ප‍්‍රධාන වන්නේ, තමාගේ ඡුන්ද ගොඩ වැඩි කර ගැනීමෙන් නොව, (එක්සත් ජාතික පෙරමුණ ඇතුළු* ප‍්‍රතිපාර්ශ්වයේ ඡුන්ද ගොඩ කඩාඉහිරවීමෙන් ගෝඨාභය ජයගත හැකිය යන කාරණයයි.
ජනතා විමුක්ති පෙරමුණේ ජනාධිපති අපේක්ෂකත්වය මේ විග‍්‍රහයට අදාළ වන්නේ මෙහිදී ය. 2010 දී සහ 2015 දී ජනතා විමුක්ති පෙරමුණ පෙනී සිටියේ ‘තමන්ගේම නොවන’ පොදු අපේක්ෂකයෙකු වෙනුවෙනි. ඉන් පළමුවැන්නා, (සරත් ෆොන්සේකා* පරාජය විය. දෙවැන්නා, (මෛත‍්‍රීපාල සිරිසේන* ද්‍රෝහී විය. දැන් ජනතා විමුක්ති පෙරමුණේ එක් තර්කයක් මෙසේ විය හැකියි: එකම වරද, අවුරුදු නවයක් වැනි කෙටි කාලයක් තුළ, තුන් පාරක් කළ නොහැක. අනිත් අතට, තමන්ගේ පක්ෂයත්, විකල්ප වාම බලවේගයත් ගොඩනගා ගැනීම සඳහා මේ ජනාධිපතිවරණය පාවිච්චියට ගත යුතුය.
මේ තර්කණයට ප‍්‍රතිපක්ෂව ගැටගැසෙන ඊළඟ ප‍්‍රශ්නය මෙසේ ය: පක්ෂය ප‍්‍රමුඛ විකල්ප වාම බලවේගය ගොඩනැගීම, ගෝඨාභය ජයග‍්‍රහණය කැරැුවීමෙන් අත්කරගත හැකි වන්නේද? එසේ නොවෙයි නම්, ගෝඨාභය පරාජය කිරීම, පක්ෂය ප‍්‍රමුඛ කරගත් විකල්ප වාම බලවේගය ගොඩනැගීමේ ප‍්‍රධාන පූර්ව කොන්දේසියක් නොවන්නේද? මෙසේ ප‍්‍රශ්න කිරීම, එකම චක‍්‍රයක් වටේ නැවත නැවතත් කැරකීමක් බඳු වැඩක් බව ඇත්ත. ඒ නිසා, මේ චක‍්‍රයෙන් පිටට පැමිණ ඒ දෙස බැලිය යුතුව තිබේ.
විධායක ජනාධිපති ක‍්‍රමය යනු, ප‍්‍රධාන ධනපති පක්ෂ දෙක පමණක් බලයට පත්කැරැුවීම ආයතනිකව අනිවාර්ය කෙරෙන යාන්ත‍්‍රණයකින් යුතු සැලැස්මකි. ඒ ක‍්‍රමය තුළ, මොන පක්ෂය සමග සන්ධානගත වුවත් නැතත්, ජනතා විමුක්ති පෙරමුණ වැනි ව්‍යාපාරයකට එම තරගය තුළ කරට කර සිටිය නොහේ. ජනාධිපතිවරණයක් යනු, විකල්ප පක්ෂයක් හෝ තුන්වැනි බලවේගයක් ගොඩනැගෙන පරිසරයක් නිර්මාණය කරවන අවස්ථාවක් නොවීම ඊට හේතුවයි. ඒ ක‍්‍රමය තුළ සිදුවන්නේ, තුන්වැනි බලවේග අඩුවැඩි වශයෙන්, සෘජුව හෝ වක‍්‍රව, ජනාධිපති යාන්ත‍්‍රණය තුළට ගිලගනු ලැබීමයි. එය, ජනතා විමුක්ති පෙරමුණ, ඉන් එක් පක්ෂයක් සමග සන්ධානගත වූවත් නැතත්, සිදුවන තත්වයකි. මේ නිසා, පක්ෂය ගොඩනැගීම සඳහා හෝ විකල්ප වාම බලවේගය ගොඩනැගීම සඳහා හෝ ජනාධිපතිවරණය අවස්ථාවක් කර ගැනීමට යත්න දැරීම, පතිවතක් පෙන්වීමට ප‍්‍රයෝජනවත් විය හැකි වෙතත්, කිසි දවසක මගුලක් සාර්ථක කර ගැනීමට නොහැකි වන තත්වයකි.
ඇත්ත, අනිත් අතට, ජනාධිපතිවරණයේදී ප‍්‍රධාන පක්ෂ දෙකෙන් එකක මුක්කුවක් වීමත්, පක්ෂයක් වශයෙන් විනාශකාරී ය. මේ නිසා, විධායක ජනාධිපති ක‍්‍රමය නමැති උගුලෙන් ගැලවීම, අන් සියල්ලන්ට වඩා වැඩදායක වන්නේ ජනතා විමුක්ති පෙරමුණට බව පැහැදිලියි. එහෙත් අවාසනාවකට, 20 වැනි සංශෝධනය ඔවුන් ගෙනාවේ ගමේ මගුල් කපුවෙකු මෙනි. කපුවාගේ රාජකාරිය, කේන්දරයක් ගෙනැවිත් බාරදීම පමණි.
දැන් අප ඉදිරියේ ඇඳෙන චිත‍්‍රය මෙයයි: ගෝඨාභය රාජපක්ෂ පරාජය කිරීම, ජනාධිපති ක‍්‍රමය අහෝසි කෙරෙන බවට හෝ යහපාලනය සැබවින් ඇති කෙරෙන බවට හෝ තිරසර සහතිකයක් නොවේ. එහෙත් ඔහු ජයග‍්‍රහණය කැරැුවීම යනු, ඒ සියල්ල නියතව ආපස්සට හරවන නොවරදින වට්ටෝරුව ය. එය අත්දුටුවයි. සත්තයි.

Knoppix was the first Live CD I used and it is the best coming from Germany (in English and German).

There was a Medical Knoppix, too.

I have misplaced these CDs.

Soon I went to Puppy Linux (coming from Australia) and is my favorite.
Those days carrying a Linux distribution in 100 MiB USB stick was impossible.

In this case the Lanka Linux User Group played a major part in developing the localized system by combining the knowledge of university professors, linguists, and local developers. 

Unfortunately, Lanka Linux Developers went for Fedora.

They should have teamed up with Debian Linux.
Debian has over 60,000 packages and sadly its developer committed suicide after an altercation with US police.

Why they stuck with Fedora (Community version of Redhat), I do not know.

I started with Redhat with 8 version but gave as soon as it was bought up by a giant commercial company. 
It changed hand several times.

Centos Os distribution was a failure in my opinion. 

Linux Bible was my Guru and I continued subscribing Linux magazine till lately.
It also comes from Germany.

If I do not write a few lines about Carlo as a university academic, a decade and a bit younger, I feel bit irritated and impatient.

This comment is about fire walking.

Fire is heat or energy, it burns depending on the duration of exposure.

Hot water injury is the commonest in this country.

The treatment for a burn (hot water) is large quantity of cold water (bathe) immediately to take (entropy) away the excess energy that harms the tissues.

It is not physiology but common sense physics.

Thick sole soaked in water and quick steps over the fire, is the way to overcome any injury in fire walking.

I did walk on fire at the physiology department stage quickly once and slowly the second time.

I was OK.

It is a physical act.

Whereas pain and body’s response to burn is physiology, which he did not teach.

That was his academic job.

Second time, I time met him was at a bogus job (I was in private practice) interview for a Neonatal Job.

I was over-qualified but the job was given to a women selected before the interview.

This is where I interviewed the panel and blasted everybody including Carlo for wasting my time.

Third time was when we organized an oration at the Art Faculty with Monty Gopallawa, (Kandy Governor and formerly philosophy department). 

If I remember right Mahinda Rajapaksa came in but did not wait.

That is how he (MR) treated Carlo but he trusted him vainly in politics.

Here is a brief email conversation I had with one of my batch mates after his demise.

Carlo made a big error by trying to experiment on culture. We all know culture is Boru katha but it is foolish to experiment on cultural beliefs. Also Carlo didn't appreciate the strength of mind. He left out mind and took into account only the 5 senses. What can be perceived by the 5 senses only were accepted as proof which I think is incorrect.

My comment

Beauty of science is that one scientist stands on another shoulder and look ahead.

This does not happen in religion and is totally rigid beyond the Kalama Sutta.

Plant Senses and the Tiny Ecosystem

Plant can sense you and please you, at least expected times.

Flowers are there to greet you and the rest of the ecosystem.

Dragon flower bloomed but no fruits.

Unexpected flower was an ornamental plant, similar to the ginger plant but much bigger.

It has narrow white blossom.

Never seen before.

Ginger plants are blossoming, too.

Palm tree blossomed with three generations of fruits, that fed the birds once the mulberry tree stopped flowering.

The ecosystem has a domesticated chameleon in the rooftop garden.

Fruit bat came in to rest during the rain.

Read about the bats and put the indoor light overnight to discourage the visit and daily dropping on the steps to my bedroom.

Now he/she comes and rest in the outdoor veranda.

King fisher comes and have a survey but no crabs.

The open well was filled up (vacant land) and dirty Hi-ace vehicle is parked there permanently, now.

Bread fruit tree is no more.

Jack trees were decimated.

Banana trees blossomed but only tiny fruits.

I hate banana trees.

They ruin the soil.

But hummingbirds come for the honey and they are not worried that I am watching their painful feeding in flight.

Only six of them.

I never try to take a photo (except flowers).

The lens in the camera scare them.

Then there were three exotic birds yesterday.

Never seen before.

Who says a tiny garden with ample water and guppy fish as a delicacy (magpie) discourages lot of visitors including Ceylon civet in the night. He eats the fruit of the sweet Nelli (work of our mother) in addition (comes with young ones).

I have two Kithul plants in pots as a reminder of the Ceylon civet.

I have germinated two plants with difficulty from the dropping.

There is a single Kithul tree in front and that is the hiding place for the squirrels when the eagle comes round for its prey.

Bul Buls and Mynahs and a single crow completes the day.

By the way, I have managed to raise seven types of lilies.

There is flower every day of the rainy season when other terrestrial plants stop flowering and start growing vigorously.

මුලින්ම 1977 වසරට යන්න. ලංකාවේ වර්තමානයේ අප මුහුණදෙන ඕනෑම ප්‍රශ්නයක් පැහැදිලි කරගැනීමේ ආරම්භක ස්ථානය 1977 යැයි බොහෝ දෙනා කියති. ඒ සෑම ප්‍රශ්නයකම නිර්මාතෘ වන්නේ ජේ.ආර්. ජයවර්ධන ය යන්න ඒ අයගේ හැඟීමයි. මෙය, ප්‍රශ්නය වටහා ගැනීම සඳහා මතුපිටින් පෙනෙන ඉතා පහසු ඉලක්කයක් සහ පුද්ගලයෙකු වශයෙන් ගත හැකි වෙතත්, එයම වර්තමාන අර්බුදය ව්‍යාකුල කර ගැනීමටත්, සොයා ගැනීමට ඇති පිළිතුර දුෂ්කර කර ගැනීමටත් හේතුකාරක වන බවක් බොහෝ විට පෙනෙන්ට තිබේ. හැම කුණු ගොඩක්ම බේරේ වැවට යැයි කියන්නා සේ 1977 සහ ජේ.ආර්. ජයවර්ධනගේ ඇඟේම අප එල්ලුණොත්, තවත් දශක ගණනාවක් තිස්සේ ඒ හොල්මන් දෙකේ වින්දිතයන් බවට අප පත්වෙනු නිසැකයි.

All the hopes evaporate into thin air but with a difference.

His predicament is much more volatile.

Before he could click a picture or snatch a shot he will be sucked into the center of the singularity.

He becomes older and much smaller than his original size unimaginable on earth terms.

His picture if he was lucky to capture will be so tiny even an electron microscope on earth won’t be able to visualize.

Interestingly at the rate he becomes older he won’t live long to hear a return message from earth backwards.

So do not try to image a black hole but remain earth bound and wait till the election commissioner declares his second or third count result.

That will be much more interesting that a Google Server won’t be able to predict the outcome.

Winning margin will be paper thin (not 50% of the total valid count) as expected by the rules and regulations.

The election commissioner will have fun time and the last laugh.
