Higher Knowledge of Dhamma or Abhidhamma

Higher Knowledge of Dhamma or
Abhidhamma
Introduction to Abhidhamma
Abhidhamma is colossal and any attempt at simplifying it is difficult, simply because of the fact that Abhidhamma in Buddhist terminology is an attempt to finely describe the working of the Mind.
It is a conceptual framework of “phenomena of existence” of physical and mental formations; i.e; analysis of mental phenomena and their conditioning.
This analysis is the basis for expounding the very nature of existence of the being (Bhava) conditioned by Anitta (impermanence), Dukka (unsatisfactoriness based on impermanence) and hence Anatma (selflessness).
The expression of this at fine mental formation is Upppada (beginning), Thithi (rising to a peak) and Bhanga (dissolution) of one thought moment to another with similar beginning, crescendo and dissolution; i.e; in other words “a state of flux” of mental formation and dissolution.
This formation does not end at physical death but extends into the next round of existence in Bhava.

The mental process is described as a stream (Bhavanga Sota) which invariably accompany the being.
One experiences only one thought moment at any particular time. No two thought moments coexist.

Each thought moment hangs onto some kind of object.
No consciousness arises without an object either physical or mental.
When a person is fast asleep and is in a dreamless state he experiences a kind of consciousness which is more passive than active (note no mention about subconsciousness in Abhidhamma akin to Freudian analysis).

It is similar to consciousness at the time of conception and at the final moment of death.
This type of consciousness in Abhidhamma term is Bhavanga.

Like any other consciousness it consists of genesis (Uppada) steady state or static (Thiti) and cessation (Bhanga). Arising and perishing it flows on like a stream not remaining the same for two consecutive thought moments.
According to Abhidhamma, two types of (conscious and subconscious) of consciousness does not exist.
Bhavanga is not a sub-plane but a continuous stream of existence.
In Abhidhamma the word that aptly describe the state of the mind is Javana (running, no exact English rendering).

This Javana thought moment lasts seven thought moments or at times of death five thought moments. Javana state is arrested by Thadarammana when an object (physical or mental) of attention is registered by the thought process and consists of two thought moments.
The death occurs immediately after the Cuti consciousness.

Cuti and Patisandhi are continuous, within the same thought moment and there is NO room for Untharbhava in Abhidhamma!
It lapses into Bhavanga sota of enormity (of Samsara) which each one owns of his own, with neither beginning nor end.
A super being cannot pardon actions (Kusala or Akusala) of a being or arrest this process.
Though, with death, the physical body disintegrates and the flow of consciousness temporarily ceases yet the stream is not annihilated as the Kammic force that propels it remains.
Death is only a prelude to rebirth.
As Patisandhi (relinking) is the initial thought moment of life so Cuti the final thought moment. They are the entrance and exist of a particular life. Cuti occurs between Javana and Patisandhi, Thadarammana and Patisandhi and Bhananga and Patisandhi.
So the Samsara is the conditional existence (sort of cause and effect process) of beings, all inclusive (not only human but Deva and Preta included) and the goal of Buddhist Practice is to strive for Unconditional Existence of the Mental Culture (not a zero sum game or state) of Bliss without attachment (Tanha).
Way to achieve this is by one’s own effort of Meditation (not just meditation) with clear understanding of the above premises of Anitta, Dukka and Anatma.
Mind’s response to sense organ’s perception of an impulse as part of an object (Kaya/Rupa) of attention sets in a chain reaction.
1. Impulse has to be above the threshold value.
2. That causes to arise sensation from the sense object.
3. Perception of that sensation as agreeable, disagreeable or neutral.
4.Volitional (Cetana) attachment (Tanha) to that Citta (i.e; awakening of the life stream (Bhavanga sota) of continuity).
5. Momentary focus of attention to that state of Mind.
6. Brings to life the mental phenomenon associated with that state of mind (within the Mind or arise from sense organ).
7. Attention to the same until another (Citta) thought process begins.
Upppda, Thiti and Bhanga process recurs in an undulating form in each thought moment of the present.

In terms of the life process, Patisandhi, Bhavanga and Cuti operate, in the ever recurring Samsara Cycle.
Javana is the most important of all where the free will operates and the action (good or bad) falls into either Kusala or Akusala Kamma. One owns or inherits the merits or demerits of his or her action or deed.
Thought process has 17 thought moments and Javana has 7 thought moments and Tadarammana has two thought moments and the rest of the eight thought moments are given separate names starting from Atita Bhavanga to Votthappana ending in Javana and Tadarammana.
This in essence embodies the basic tenets of Abhidhamma but does not include all the finer classifications.
Summary;
1. Bhavanga sota
2. Bhavanga uppaccheda
3. Bhavanga calana
4. Avarjana (focus of attention)
5. Tadarammana (focus of attachment)
6. Javana (there is no proper English rendering of this word)
7. Kusala and Akusala (or Kriya of the Arhaths)
Uppada, Thiti and Banga of the thought moment or process ensues with extreme rapidity.
8. Bhavanga sota.

How to Evade Judgments and Descent

How to Evade Judgments and Descent
This should be read in conjunction with “How to Evade Dogmas” below.
Of course one should ignore typos and grammar (not my specialty, anyway) and head for the impact or core issues.

In the evolutionary chain from aphids, to ladybirds to birds of prey, we humans are the biggest parasite (I wish to call them, alien visitors to this planet from outer space) on this planet.

So our judgments are based on this basic human desire, I come first (Trump Syndrome of Americanism or White Supremacy to prey on undesirable female species, animals included)

We are judgmental in every aspect from, sex to food to what we wear as head gear or cover our vital parts or the “Jungi” in our terms.
I decided to wear all blue Jungies during the previous regime as an internalized protest and I have changed to green Jungies after central bank (my cheques stolen in transit, in broad daylight of emancipation to steal or become a parasite of big dimension) debacle.

To be non-judgmental one has to become an atheist (that itself is judgmental) since all regions are judgmental on either merit or demerit scale or rebirth tendencies in future life.

Moment one becomes judgmental one becomes a scapegoat for more dogmas and enslaved from birth to grave to nest birth for good.

Then we fail to live this moment of truth, I become a slave of somebody else.

The biggest slave is the economic slave.
It is to the multinational banks or to the local bank.
I am trapped with credit cards from 1980s and I will die with a big default is my dogma and many others of my age.
However all above 55 years in this country are treated as scoundrels (they should be, they did sweet little when productive to change the working life of fellow beings).

See how dogmas go from good to bad in no time (if not in a lifetime).
If one judges ones fellow beings by color, the language one speaks and behavior in public (politicians in front of TV cameras edited fully) and religion we lay foundation for the basic parasitic nature in our genes, which the good old gods fail to rectify from the very beginning.
Why create problems to all fellow gods in heaven (one to millions in India according to my Indian friends)?
So there is no way of escaping judgmental nature.
I have found a very difficult solution and it is called “Upeksha’ or equanimity.
Easy to say but hard to practice.
Try training kids to be non-judgmental from birth (females are at a disadvantage at birth, in this country) but with year five examination and school entry big lies, we have over the past 45 years trained liars from Church to Temples, to Mosques to school principals to parents and kids.
There is no escape route and it perpetuates discordance of grand scale.
No one can die in peace in this country.
They are born culprits of the present state of affairs from S.W.R.D. to J.R. to J.V.P. to L.T.T.E.
How to Evade Dogmas

It is very difficult to evade, Dogmas (my definition is embedded lies), be that it is old or new.
Only way to avoid dogmas (dogmata) is not to have any.
If one has a dogma A against the Dogma B there are multiple ways one gets embedded in the dogma not realizing one is entangled, within.
Read Brahmajala Sutta, there are 62 variants and I believe none is true.
If dogma A is true one has to assimilate points supporting or basic tenets within it.
There is an element of belief that the dogma A is correct.
Belief has no scientific validity until it is approaching 40% of validity (ideally 60%).

There is no belief scientific or otherwise which has 100% validity.

Often beliefs falls below my cut of point 30% often it is less than 5%.

Then one has to identify the arguments falsifying the dogma B.

Suppose dogma B is correct and dogma A is wrong.

This is why I call dogma (lie) gets embedded in another circular lie or dogma.

One can apply this argument to existence of god (one dogma) or existence of alien life on mars (dogma B).

I leave you to do one’s own homework on the above and delve a bit on Buddhist tenets.

Buddhism is based on two basic tenets.
Number one is Kamma.
Number two is Beings in Samsara.
There are many other variants based on these two dogmas.
Neither of the above can be proved beyond doubt.
So they remain as dogmas.

This is true for other religions, too.

That is why I say it is safer to have no dogmas.

Do not ponder on the past.
Do not wonder about the future.

What we have is this moment of existence.

Enjoy it to the best without pondering on embedded dogmas.

What we have is this moment of happiness (Somanassa) so do not get into Domanassa Mood by delving on dogmas.

Three Ladybirds in one

Most of it is reproduction but my comments are copyrighted, by American standards!

Three Ladybirds in one.

I did not know ladybirds have telepathic abilities. They warned me not to buy insecticides, indirectly.
I was asked by my wife to bring an aphicide (antcide to be true) by the name of Massack.
The other day I could not find it at Kheel’s supermarket.
They had rearranged the shelves and made it a mess.
In fact, I told one of the managers that they should rearrange the shelves and make it a mess, so that like our politicians our customers get confused when shopping and the hubby forgets the list that the wife had given and buys the taste for the tot he is (it is at the end of the list) intending to buy from little saving made in supermarkets, nowadays.
I, of course stopped, a tot by default (including in chocolates) after the price hike that supersedes and super added taxes on top of it.
That is not the TOP story.
I have not seen a ladybird for (I hate the term lady bugs-see underneath-animal rights violation) ages.
Last time we saw ladybirds were in New Zealand jungles, many moons ago. Agricos in New Zealand had decimated wild life including Kiwis.
The Kiwi fruit is from China (not their creation by New Zealanders).
I saw three ladybirds of local variety (not the red brown variety) on the hair (ponytail) of a Tamil girl (my guess Batticoloa not Jaffna).
I could guess the accent, during my tenure in the university, not too loud in the Campus bus.
So MS for all worths helping the Tamils in Batti and Jaffna with aphids and ladybirds.
Long live banning of Monasanto in Ceylon, in Metta Meditation in flight, but I told my wife Massak has not labeled the ingredients violating the local law on insecticide and it probably has glyphosate base which causes cancer.
I love glyposate ban but my rooftop garden has no ladies or lady bugs.

Monsanto Loses Roundup Cancer Trial

A San Francisco jury returned a verdict today in the case of a former groundskeeper with terminal cancer against Monsanto Company, ordering the agrochemical giant to pay $39.2 million in compensatory damages and $250 million in punitive damages for failing to warn consumers that exposure to Roundup weed killer causes cancer.
Dewayne “Lee” Johnson filed the lawsuit (case no. CGC-16-550128) against St. Louis-based Monsanto Co. on Jan. 28, 2016, alleging exposure to the Roundup herbicide he sprayed while working as a groundskeeper for the Benicia Unified School District caused him to develop non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL).
On June 18, 2018, his case was assigned to Judge Suzanne Ramos Bolanos for the Superior Court of San Francisco, California. Johnson’s case was the first of its kind to proceed to trial due to his terminal diagnosis. After eight weeks of trial proceedings, the jury found unanimously that Monsanto’s glyphosate-based Roundup weed killer caused Mr. Johnson to develop NHL, and that Monsanto failed to warn of this severe health hazard. Importantly, the jury also found that Monsanto acted with malice, oppression or fraud and should be punished for its conduct.
Monsanto was found liable in a lawsuit and ordered to pay $289 million in damages to a man who alleged the company's glyphosate-based weed-killers, including Roundup, caused him cancer.

A California jury on Friday found Monsanto liable in a lawsuit filed by a man who alleged the company's glyphosate-based weed-killers, including Roundup, caused him cancer and ordered the company to pay $289 million in damages.
The case of school groundskeeper Dewayne Johnson was the first lawsuit alleging glyphosate causes cancer to go to trial. Monsanto, a unit of Bayer AG following a $62.5 billion acquisition by the German conglomerate, faces more than 5,000 similar lawsuits across the United States.
The jury at San Francisco's Superior Court of California deliberated for three days before finding that Monsanto had failed to warn Johnson and other consumers of the cancer risks posed by its weed killers.
It awarded $39 million in compensatory and $250 million in punitive damages.
Lady beetles are voracious aphid feeders and an adult beetle will eat 50 or more aphids a day. The convergent lady beetle, which is the species sold for release, feeds almost entirely on aphids and will not remain on plants with low aphid populations and will not control other garden pests.
The sticky honeydew is a favorite of ants, who act like mini-farmers and protect the aphids from predators (such as ladybugs). Often gardeners think the ants eat plants, but really the ants are busy taking care of their “herd” and using the “milk” for food.
Nothing says spring like a rosebush full of aphids, an insect with an amazingly complex life-cycle. Eggs laid by adults overwinter on plants and batches of mostly female aphids hatch in spring and summer. These females eat and grow (sucking plant sap and producing sticky honeydew) and then give birth to live, wingless young, a process also known as cloning! (At this stage of the game, there is no need for males in the mix). As the population explodes, the aphids begin to run out of food, so the female aphids next give birth to live, winged males and females who fly off to newer “pastures” to begin the task of overpopulating an area all over again.
The sticky honeydew is a favorite of ants, who act like mini-farmers and protect the aphids from predators (such as ladybugs). Often gardeners think the ants eat plants, but really the ants are busy taking care of their “herd” and using the “milk” for food. You can get rid of ants by using a sticky product called “tanglefoot” and applying it as directed. The ants get trapped or can’t go around the barrier to get to the aphids. This leaves the aphids defenseless against predators such as ladybugs (actually beetles from the order Coleoptera) who are on the lookout for a tasty meal. Ladybugs are more correctly called ladybird beetles or lady beetles, but the name ladybug is most commonly used. To learn more about other insects in this order, visit the coleoptera webpage,
Ladybugs lay their eggs on plants near aphids and other food sources like mites. Ladybug larvae are pretty interesting looking, almost like mini-alligators, and just as voracious! I took a photo of this little guy on a picnic bench just today. When this baby hatched it was smaller than a pinhead! You can barely see them with a hand lens.
Hatched larva eat tiny critters like mites until they are big enough to eat aphids. If you’re reading along and wondering why I write “larva” sometimes and “larvae” at others it’s because one is singular (larvae) and the other plural (larva) although even I get confused while I’m typing at times, especially late at night.
The larva eat and eat and get bigger and bigger.
Here’s a photo of a ladybug larva that has been chowing down and gotten much larger. I try to be careful when photographing them. The tiny ones shouldn’t be handled because they get squished easily. The larger ones can sometimes be convinced to climb onto a finger and are easier to handle. I’ve noticed that they bite, although I would call it more of a “nip” if you will, sort of like a little pinch.
It also seems like they emit an orange substance when disturbed, although I haven’t been able to find information about this anywhere. In nature, ladybugs are avoided by most predators, apparently because they taste terrible. Although I’m sure most birds or other predators eat at least one before they find out!
Ladybug larva
It’s truly incredible how a creature too small to see with the naked eye gets to be a nice-sized ladybug. One ladybug larvae can eat 300-400 aphids before it’s ready to pupate. After this huge smorgasbord, the larvae attaches itself to a leaf and then appears to “rest” for a few days. During this stage, it undergoes metamorphosis, an amazing process in which the insect completely transforms. The outside turns orange with black spots, and eventually the skin splits to reveal a brand new ladybug. It will look soft and pale for several hours until the outside wings dry and harden. As the shells hardens, it gets darker and turns to a beautiful, shiny red color.
There are different types of ladybugs, some with many spots and others with none. The shades of red also vary. This Ladybug Classification webpage can tell you more. The most common type of ladybird beetle is the convergent ladybug, which is pictured in this blog.
Want ladybugs in your garden?
Plant crops that attract aphids. Some suggestions are plants in the cabbage family (cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower) or roses. The photos of adult ladybird beetles, larva and pupae were taken of the beetles among fava beans. I imagine it’s a great crop/place to overwinter during both winter and spring.
It was definitely an “all-you-can-eat” buffet for the beetles!
Unfortunately, it’s impossible to get rid of all the aphids in your garden and have a pest-free environment. Which makes sense when you think about it, because if your garden is pest-free, what will the ladybugs eat? To reduce large numbers of aphids, you can spray them with a gentle stream of water, which will knock them off and kill many. Or you can use a horticultural oil or soap. Just remember that although these products are labeled “non-toxic” or “safer” they will also kill beneficial insects like ladybugs and bees. These products can also harm plants if applied when temperatures are over 80 degrees. Read the label and use correctly.
If you’ve never seen ladybug larva or pupa in your garden, get outside immediately and go look! Now that you’ve seen a photo of them, they’ll be much easier to spot. Happy hunting!

My impact on L.P.S- Light Weight Portable Security

My impact on L.P.S- Light Weight Portable Security
My impact on L.P.S- Light Weight Portable Security was devastating and it has never recovered and gone dormant.

LPS-Public has been downloaded 17,467 times so far!
LPS (Lightweight Portable Security) is an open source distribution of Linux that provides users with a thin client designed to run directly from a portable device and to not expose your private data and credentials to anyone.
It has been created by the US Air Force Research Laboratory, as part of their Software Protection Initiative project, and can be used for PIV (Personal Identity Verification) or CAC (Common Access Card) restricted government websites.

Distributed as Live CDs in multiple editions

The operating system is distributed as three Live CDs, LPS Public, LPS Public Deluxe, and LPS Remote Access. They can be easily deployed to USB flash drives using the UNetbootin application, or written to blank CDs using any CD/DVD burning software.
The first two are available to the general public, but the third one has been specifically designed to be used by the United States Department of Defense (DoD), as well as various other US federal government agencies.
While LPS Public is the smaller one and includes a minimal set of packages, LPS Public Deluxe comes with a bigger collection of applications and utilities. They are both engineered to allow productive use of the Internet.
Trusted End Node Security (TENS), previously called Lightweight Portable Security (LPS), is a Linux-based live CD with a goal of allowing users to work on a computer without the risk of exposing their credentials and private data to malware, key loggers and other Internet-era ills. It includes a minimal set of applications and utilities, such as the Firefox web browser or an encryption wizard for encrypting and decrypting personal files. The live CD is a product produced by the United States of America's Department of Defence and is part of that organization's Software Protection Initiative.

Update
I have now tested L.P.S and it is below par in every respect except the size which is small enough to fit into a Mini CD.
Having said that it detected all my hardware and it looks like it has taken Redhat (at least the GTK and the toolkit) as the base by looking at its squarish graphic outputs.
I am not going to detail all the pitfalls but warn newbies not to use it and go for Peppermint which is good for you guys and girls.
Even Peppermint gets 750 out of my 1000 points which is being revised by me recently.
I am not going to state how much it gets from my scale of points, fearing, few of the developers might get a heart attacks.
Any distribution without Muliti-language capability gets minus 250 and only Debian and Fedora gets about 200 points, for that feature.
LPS is only in English and No Sinhala means, it as discriminating small guys in smaller countries which is against UNO charter.
Only Debian supports Sinhala as a living language and Fedora also does a reasonable job in that respect but because of its rapid change (including partition type) I cannot recommend Fedora too.
As for my final comment for LPS anybody including a newbie who uses root permission at lib is naked enough to be insane in a Linux community.
And rooting naked is not in anyway a gamesmanship.
So if you want to be naked or insane use LPS at lib.
Otherwise I have listed SliTaz which is 34 MiB and 4MLinux which is 50 MiB
(4Ms stands for Mini Server, Multimedia, Maintenance (security), Miracle-games) in this blog site recently would fit in your Mini CD.
LPS cannot match these two and has a big security hole to plug.
If you are like me download and use it for irrational fun.
Happy Independence day to all Americans and would be (aspiring) AmericanS!

Light Weight Portable, (Private) and Secure or is it?
It looks like American Defense Industry is doing catching up service (activity).
It is 20 years too late of course with Linux.
Sometime Americans let me laugh at myself.
I am not antiamerican (there is no word called antiamerican in the American Dictionary, unfortunately) in philosophy but in ideology.
My theme is small is beautiful.
The American ideology is bigger the best.
The Thinking Big is IBM philosophy.
In other words, the richer an American becomes better is for the world.
The American dream is to become rich from cradle to the grave, even if you are not a politician.
Our dream is to let only politicians become rich by default especially if they administer cricket.
My theme is "become rich just enough to become small in thinking of becoming big but big in thinking to be sustainable and not become a big White (or Black or Yellow or Brown) Pest in this world which cannot afford to sustain anymore of them with scarce resources.
I like one American Philosophy and that is to be liberal in thinking not aristocratic or regimented like in a orthodox religion.
Become a free thinker and an open inquirer.
The WiKiLeakes has done enough damage to American esteem and reputation and they are adopting some of my Linux strategy in practice.
United States of America's Department of Defense has produced a Linux Live CD for public use probably for Americans abroad and would be non-american spies in the Middle East (Not necessary in Sri-Lanka, we do not have secrets that Americans do not know except the last two days of our departure or radio silence when most essential silence was maintained by the defense establishment which American have to come here and learn from our Big Ball Boys of Cricket-how to land a carom ball or a googly at will- we never tell English boys how much Mahela is going to score in the next match or the World Cup final).
Sri-Lanka is the only country in this world where Americans do not need to have any secret spies and our defense secretary is American by registrations and does not trust Americans a wee bit but our mothers would be when pregnant, do not say Baby going to London town but My Baby is going to New York or Washington or Chicago is the current theme and from mothers to fathers to babies will give American embassy their money to spy on our mother Lanka.
It is amazing to see they are stealing my original Sri-Lankan ideas and I feel bit flushed and bit redundant in thinking now.
1. Number one is I promote Light Weight (Bonobo type of Linux distributions-SLiTaz is only 30 MiB) distributions in Linux, including Puppy my favorite.
2. Number two of my dream ideas is to make all distribution Public including Microsoft and Apple which are all American Creations with serious bugs when WiKILeaks used them to exposed American wits.
In other words American inventions are the most reliable security lapses that we can exploit to get American secrets.
3. For security I say go for Linux and the Americans have turned to Linux for safety and security but leaving daring loop holes in executing them.
Having said that they are new to Linux and one never uses root permission (only when one roots on top of a problem or underdog) to boot but their Live CD is already booted and rooted all the time like American based French IMF guys.
Another alarming feature is hashed passwords are stored in the would be-readable /etc/passwd file, that can be cracked.
The funniest part and which I laugh at length is they are promoting my AntiMicrosft stance from the DoD (Department of Defense) which accepts Microsoft is the biggest American Love and Liability.
Another great idea is to use Flash which recently had breached security through FireFox browser.
These Americans in the Defense Department got them all wrong and Linus Torvalds must be laughing nonstop like over nonstop singers and dancers.
American please use this distribution at your own liberty and risk but non-americans beware that this must be another ploy to make some unrest in the Middle East which they are fast losing ground.
I am downloading it and will be very elaborate when I give my next comment.
If you need more details please visit distrowatch weekly review but their description lacks funny tone coming from America.
American do not know how to laugh at themselves and DoD has given them a big opportunity.
Use that opportunity to laugh and there is freedom at your disposal to laugh at self, Linux-wise, which is a healthy habit.
I do not know what their future plans are but project without a vision or fun won't last long.
But I will be very nosy in any case when an update comes with bug fixes.
