Minimum Requirement for Debian Gnome is?

Minimum Requirement for Debian Gnome is at least 15GB.
8GB is not enough!

12GB for /root
3GB for  /home
This is without /tmp and /var folders

Debian KDE needs slightly more

Mind you LibreOffice takes bulk of the installation of 1GB and one cannot remove it without upsetting the configuration.

What I do is take all the language packages and then install

1. Scribus

2. Blender

3. Inkscape

4. Gparted

5. Stacer

6. Notepadqq

7. Revolt

8. Falkon, Dillo and ephiphany browser

9. Frozen bubble, ephiphany

10. USB writer and USB Formatter

Why I Hate Cats?

 32-052011

Why I Hate Cats?

I hate cats from my childhood.

The day our cat caught my squirrel and killed it I started hating all cats including our cat (never my cat in my vocabulary).

I cried and got hold of the tail of the cat and trashed her on the floor till my anger subsided but felt short of killing her.

The cat got the message and would not come near me and then one day I handed over her to one of my aunts whose house had lot of rats.

I cannot remember having a cat till late in my life.

Then we had two orphaned male cats one was killed by a dog and other was poisoned and dished out during Perehara for supper.

My daughter looked after 33 litters (she had counted) in her childhood and the last litter she came and told me that all five of them were blind to a different degree.

The had no defense from Kala Waddas (Ceylon Civet) and we looked after them in a cage and were disposed and I told her no more caring for cats (litters).

This year, New year’s eve I found three kitten in an open area of the house (neighbor’s cat) not protected by civets.

My decision was wait till they are bigger and dispose them quickly.

I frightened the mother cat (thinking she may take them away) but she was cunning and secretly come and go but not caring for the litter but I  found her catching birds in a nearby house.

Then she did not come to feed for three days and I found one dead and two others just surviving.

Called a yesteryear servant girl now a big woman and told her to take them away and give them to somebody with two small packets of milk, vitamin enriched and cash for another big packet (now over Rs.300/=).

Today, I was watching over my cup of tea and there we over 10 young squirrels come out of the nest due to rain. Many of them were barely able to jump and their mothers did not had any control over them.

I knew the worse would happen.

One missed the jump and fell over 40 feet down and before I could reach, the cat had already caught it.

The irony here is there are very few trees below that would have prevented the young squirrel from landing on the ground

Thirty (30) years ago when we moved here there were many trees and during this period at least 7 jack trees were felled in addition to other trees.

This is what we call development in Buddhist Style.

Before the turn of the last century monkeys would go from Hanathana Range to Knuckles range without ever climbing down to the ground and then there were more monkeys than business monkeys of present.

Read my verse on Kandy the so called heritage

That is it; killers in my neighborhood.

To my surprise there were 4 cats guarding below watchfully.

I could not believe Westerners love them and feed them and there was an old woman in America, neurotic about the lost cats and not the house.

People are saying how cute when one cat was found.

Unlike dogs they can fend themselves in the wild and they are wild animals domesticated and never can be trained not to kill.

The other reason I hate them is they steal food.

Cat in the neighborhood come and secretly drink my dog’s milk.

Now I sit with him till he finishes.
My dog deliberately leave them for the cats (probably learned from me).

1. They kill (not appropriate for Buddhist ethics) birds, squirrels and rats and any animal at their disposal
2. They steal (not appropriate for Buddhist ethics)
3. They can be never trained
4. They know how to coax
5. They make very ugly noise in the night
6. They urinate on linen
7. Their scat has an awful smell
8. They are never at home but always at the neigbour’s house stealing
9. They breed so often
10. Above all they are nuisance to the neighbors
11. They never look after our household

I think we should have a cat’s law (we have a law for dogs- why don’t we round the cats up and kill them since they also transmit Rabies) for Cat Buddhists.

But our cat’s law goes like this, Yes it is my cat but I did not ask him or her to kill or steal: it is it’s (their) instinct to help Cat Buddhists and Cat Philosophy.

I call it my cat logic or catelogic (how it is pronounced in typical Sri-Lankan Style!)

They perpetuate catalogue of errors of discretion.

We Buddhists in Sri-Lanka have bizarre law and ethics and very selfish too.

I cannot think of anything good except the purring.

Sri-Lankan keeps cats and they never feed them.

They say if they feed them they won’t catch the mice ( I must call them Cat Buddhists to add to my list of Buddhists in Sri-Lanka) at night but go and give Bodhi Puja every weekend.

I feel like killing my neighbors (this feeling was there for the last 30 years) having cats and not feeding them but until now I have resisted it.

Ten or more steps of my own

 26-01-2011

Ten or more steps of my own

I have taken some bold steps (decisions) in my life from my childhood and that had come good, when I reflect on them
Some of them cannot be mentioned here.
I was a keen observer of nature and people around me and learned to be bold and fearless.
Most of my teachers except who taught me Sinhala and English were mediocre.
I often wondered how they ever became teachers especially science.
1. One bold step was not to believe teachers especially in science.
That was a very scientific decision by itself.
I had the knack and keen power of observation and the problem solving ability. For example I believed anything can be grown on our be soil, be that it may, seeds or yam or runner provided I water them regularly. My father was not a farmer but he was a keen gardener (which he learned from a burger gentleman).
Except potatoes I could do that on my own but could not figure out why I could not grow potatoes (those days potatoes came from UK and I did not know that they put chemicals to inhibit sprouting and made sure seed potatoes were never given to us. I discovered this many many years later. This is how western countries help us).
2. I decided never to ask scientific questions (why potatoes could not grow) from my teachers (knowing very well they will give a wrong answer to shut my mouth).
3. I decided to do science and one day I decided not to go to the school I was attending abruptly (there were many other reasons and flashes of them I have expanded elsewhere) and that was a very bold decision. Finding a school teaching science was difficult but I eventually found one (there was another story behind this I would not enlarge upon).
4. I decided NOT to proceed with cadetting even though I was the leader in my old school (I was thrashed by the teacher / principal three times in the new school but I stood my ground).
I took part in all other sports except cadettting (reason should be obvious and there is / was the worse form of ragging which included sexual for the young).
5. New school was no better in teaching science and I made the decision to do D.I.Y learning science (thank god there were two  Libraries  run by Foreign Agents stocked lot of old science books in Kandy then)
6. Due to harassing by teachers I decided to walk out of the science class and asked permission from the principal who thrashed me for not joining cadets.
He eventually acceded (I still thank him for that help) to my demand (man with military training) knowing my will power.
Little he knew that others will join me later.
7. We decided to work towards a common (first exercise in group work) goal and entire university in the first attempt (both Bio and Maths).
Eventually all of us did pass and none from the class who attended normal class.
They thought we (me especially) had gone bonkus.
8. Next decision was to get rid of all the science teachers in one go (Boomi Puthra was one of them) and get some decent ones.
By this time I have forged some connections with science school inspector who was very helpful.
Proof of the pudding was that nobody from the normal class passed.
Some teachers feared me more than the principal and I was a good cohort for him.
9. We never went for tuition classes and we never got involved in giving tuition to others except my cousin brother who eventually became an engineer.
He failed all his subjects in “O” Level and till he entered the university he was under my clutches.
10. Next decision was to get rid of the compulsory government service act that we had to serve (IMF would love this) for six years and never to join the government service except university (semi-autonomous institution and not a government per say).
The way things are happening and developing in the university now leaving that is also not a big decision for me.

Rest that followed is history.
I suppose nobody should try these methods now since all the systems including schools in this country are very poorly managed by over 100 of ministers and ministries.
There is no half way house for us now as the saying in English goes.

Debian 12.10...is Out

Yes, Debian 12.10.. is out and may be the penultimate before Debian embark on version 13.

I just updated my 12.9.1..6 or something to see that the latest version is out.
Debian 21.10.... does not support Abiword hence I won't install it at all.

Reports are Coming that NATO Officers are Trapped in Kursk

Yes, reports are coming from Pro-Russian Underground Movement that lot of NATO Officers are Trapped in Kursk.
The exact number is unknown but may be much more than the 40 mentioned.
They are not foot soldiers but those who commanded the logistic hub including (drone operators) commanding.
It also understood that President Trump is trying to SAVE them from capture as prisoners (but logically they would be treated as mercineries).
NATO has not declared war against Russia and they are not protected by normal War Conventions.
EU chairperson Ursula vo der Laden may have to resign now. She openly supported Ukraine War both financially and tacticaly.
She is a No Brainer.
I wonder what the new NATO secretary could do to save NATO Officers.
I think Macron might have to resign since he is the politician who spearheaded the New NATO operations, if he has some self respect. He of course, does not have any self respect just as Boris Johnson who is born war monger.

Who Can Guess President Putin's Master Strategy

He is a master politician but has a military brain.
He could have wiped off the opposing ground troups but he choosed to gradually winding them down or use the tactics of attrition.
I do not have a military brain but I am learning.
In sports especially in cricket bashing or demolishion of the opposition is the strategy. In test cricket you play a waiting game.
British who maternined the Kursk Operation did not use the strategy and stamina of test cricket.
France as in second world war is a splash in the pan.
He was not interested in capturing the ground which he cannot protect. Kursk operation showed his under preparation which they protected losing nearly 30 million in the process to Germans during the second world war.
He did not repeat the same mistakes this time round. He did not want his soldiers to die but used modern tactics.
I am not undermining brave Ukrainian soldiers whom the Americans used as their pawns. Loosing one's comrades in bravado is not the choice.
Loose the battle to win the war is the grand old style.
American method of ruling the sky failed this time due to drone warfare which Russian have mastered in less than  3 years. My guess is President Putin wished to drag this till victory day in May.
He is keeping this option close to his heart.
He does not want Wagner or Alaudin's demolition process.
He want that force to remain solid for another fight which if Macron wishes to engineer as the new putative  head of EU.

One does not play all the cards in poker unless you are good bluffer. Bluffing also works in war.

Rounding up of NATO military planners dug in in Kursk is a major blow to Macron and his newly designed NATO bullworks.

It is easy to advance when the adversaries are morally down. President Putin deferred and he is reaping dividends.
This is where Trump as a politician would fail but he is happy, deep in his mind, NATO is really down under, without implied American help.

Most Elegant KDE Desktop is?

Most Elegant KDE Desktop is?

1. BlueStarOS  of Arch Linux

2. Endevour OS of Arch Linux
Thank YOU very much.

What I use are
3. Debian Linux has a very pleasing KDE
It seamlessly integrate both Gnome and KDE applications.

4. Netrunner 25 Version
Desktop looks like a cellphone face
It organization of applications is excellent.
IT has the Synaptic Package Manager to install Gnome applications if one desires.
It boots slow and I do not like its gaudy boot front.

5. MX Linux KDE desktop
It has 3 versions which includes Flushbox and AHS.
I do not like its package Manager.
I ran it for a while and erased it due to this difficulty of accessing software I need.
Some of them like Stacer, Revolt and Notepadqq are missing

6. Pop OS
I tried to use it with my PC with an OLD NVIDIA card it froze.
Current one mounts well on Box Utility.
No problem with English Language.
2.9GB

7. TuxedoS
I have not tried on a PC or my NUC (scarred it would damage the Integrate Graphic card of my NUC due to overload.
It boot in German on Box Utility and it froze in mid air.

8. Neptune
Also come from Germany but lacks in applications.

9.  SevenOS- Version6
Now defunct

10. Xandros Version 3
Now Defunct

11. There are host of others I used Including Madriva, Mandrake(gone bust), SUSE (Tumbleweed is pretty good) and Red Hat (lost interest completely due to its coporate mentality).

Please note that from a KDE one cannot mount or boot cinnamon, mate or genome even if you install these windows or desktops using Synaptic Package Manager.
Their libraries do not match.
That is why I say mount or boot genome and then chose n number of other fancy desktops.
KDE for me is a pain in the arxxxx.

MocaccinoOS

MocaccinoOS

MoccinoOS cannot be mounted on Box Utility but it can be written on a USB and booted up.

It is not a Live USB image.

I managed to mount three terminals but did not try any fancy stuff. It mounts on the monitor with Space Suit image and attempts to configure the Video Card and I did not do anything mad like I did with the fancy Linux distribution which I forget the name.

I do not know anything about Gentoo

It is not Slackware based from which MaccinoOS is derived.

I am having another try with Batocera

Mind I do al these things well past midnight when the Internet is fast.

Chimera GameOS and Batocera GameOS

Chimera GameOS and Batocera GameOS It looks like Batocera has two types of images.

Both are 9.1GB in total. It is a compressed image of 3.5GB.

1. Is for Windows game boxes and has 9.1GB FAT partition and 537MB EXT4 partition which does not boot on a Linux Box.

2. The second one is for laptops and PCs.It has the same configuration.

Batocera USB cannot be booted since it doe not configure EFI boot, whereas Chimera OS has base Gnome and Plasma versions.
It game OS is only for install but it needs Ethernet and does not configure the Wireless Connection. Gnome has limited applications. I would report on Plasm in a few a few minutes.
Chimera KDE is not bad.
It does not have many applications.
But it is better than both PopOS and TuxedOS

It uses Konquorer as its browser.

Configuring WiFi was bit finicky but all the same I manged it with having studied how KDE behaves.

PopOS boots on Box Utility and it is 2.9GB

TuxedOS freeze on Box utility and it boots in German. I did not press F2 on virtual boot. It is 3.9GB.

BluStar OS and Endeavour OS are n both Arch based and much more beautiful and elegant than PopOS and TuxedoOS.
They are based on Arch Linux and need some understanding of ARCH schematics.
I am not a ARCH guy and both these mounted well on Box Utility but bit slowly.

Haven't I said KDE are resource hungry thousands and more times.

Why I hate the Month of April?

 Posted on April 12, 2011
Why I hate the Month of April?

List them down in point form.

1. It is the month of thunder and showers.
It does lot of damage to my equipment including the switch board.

2. It is the month of fire cracker.
There is a saying that empty vessels (like many politicians) make a big noise, it surely does in the month of April.

3. It is the month my dog is constantly behind me in fear of thunder and fire crackers.
At least for the sake of our trustworthy friend we must ban fire crackers.
Many of them left alone by owners die in this season
Good that we lost the World Cup in Cricket, it would have raised some forest fire too.

4 .It s the month of extreme temperature which varies from 78 F to 98 F.

5. It is the month everything goes up in price for no reason like the ambient temperature.
Not only it goes up but remains high after the season.

6. It is the month of excesses including alcohol and spiritual degradation.

7. It is the month of lot of accidents on the road with police on leave.

8. It is the month of petty fights both inside and outside the house due to economic hardships and not being able to afford what one wants.

9. It is the month we empty coffers and living on loans (for two months afterward we are in absolute poverty, unable to settle the loans).

10. It is the month of credit cards.

11. It is the month all the unwanted relatives drop in without notice and spoil one’s quiet holiday.

12. It is the month of where healthy people go under the hammer and drop dead (violence, forget the medicine, too much sugar and diabetic coma, road traffic accidents and many more).

13. It is the month when the sun is above your head and shows its mighty power and all the good gods are looking the other way (in disgust probably) without helping us with some cash.

14. It is the month of mosquito music and menace including Bathiya Santhus.

I sometimes wonder why we call it the New Year with so many unwanted catastrophes evolve round it
.

These are points to ponder when you avail yourself of some welcome respite of daily chores.

This is there is Exposition of Tooth Relic and and Cardinal Cooray on protest march on Colombo/Negambo streets.

I pity the guys and girls who die on the road.

Ten (10) or more reasons why I do not use a cellphone

Ten (10) or more reasons why I do not use a cellphone

Now that WHO has released the warning for radiation and cancer PHOBIA, I should state why I hate using cellphone.

Some of what I say below are scientific in nature but nobody has done adequate studies.

This is based on the premise animals have more evolved senses for their protection and navigation especially at night.

For example some snakes (who do not have ears) infrared sensors to to detect their prey namely rats.
Hearing is not essential for some animals and mosquitoes probably have thermal as well as olfactory (smell) sensors to feed us at night.

What it means is that whole energy spectrum is used to various degrees by various beings including insects.

They all originate from sun rays (less than5% is used by this planet organisms) and most of them even do not reach us and reflected in the stratosphere.

Any artificial high intensity laser included have adverse effect on life on earth especially the animal species.

1. There is scientific evidence emerging telecommunication signals effect navigation of bees
Apart from the suspected virus infection, I believe the microwave and Telecom signals are the one that effecting the bees. whole chain of events and food cycle will be effected by this impact.
Instead of wasting time on cancers WHO and WFO should investigate this context seriously.
We know the bees are diminishing.
Why?

2. These energy waves and other waves generated also effect birds. Birds who carry seeds around the world also will impact food scenario of other wild animals. Bird population is diminishing and we do not know how these energy sources affect eggs when they are hatching.
We know that most of the agricultural pesticides concentrate on eggs and their shell and diminish fertility of birds.

3. When birds are diminished, alarming rise of parasite on domesticated animals will rise.
For example ticks which infect cattle and dogs.

4. We do not know what other animals wild and domesticated are affected by these artificial energy and bizarre propagation.
We do not know even how it affects dogs who have powerful hearing senses.

5. It takes generally 20 years to discover facts and by that time (brain tumours) one generation is affected by the ill effect.

Those are scientific speculations but what about day to day effects.

6. I am one who believe talking reduces of working capacity.
I hate when the telephone ring when I am engaged in some intellectual activity.
Even the mosquito is enough to disturb my activity.
Imagine I am or a meditator deeply engaged in Ana Pana Sati insight meditation and one mosquito is enough to distract the attention.

7. I prefer both my hands free when on holiday and hate somebody send me a SMS while crossing the road in the highway.

8. Cellphone contributes to road traffic accidents.

9. Imaging I am engaged in a group activity or suturing a coronary artery bypass and the cellphone rings.

10. Many use this as a ploy to get out of a important meeting to make decisions.
Politicians are good at this and they slip away leaving a mediocre guy to listen to trade union guys.

Cell phone takes the thinking capacity and concentration away
and few years from now research will indicate it was the most bizarre invention of ours.

Enjoy it now and very soon there will be legislature controlling use of cellphones.

Remember I said it.

I did not mention the use of tapping by CIA, FSB and MI5/6 .

Linux Ultimatum

Linux Ultimatum

I had 3 sleepless nights
This all started with Legacy OS.
Do not use old Legacy kernels and they are buggy.
Well this piece is done after solid 8 hours of sleep.
This piece is in development and not comprehensive but basic tenet is reliable.

1. One need at least 20GB of hard disk space for even Debian Gnome.
My recommendation is 30GB. This is for the /root file system.
The /home partition can be as minimum of 10GB to 100GB.
At least 10GB /var partition and 2GB for /tmp or /optional
SWAP partition is mandatory and I use use at lease two.
They are actually dividers between different distributions.

I use minim of 7 partitions that include the EFI boot partition.

2. I do not recommend Calamara Installer
Just use graphic Debian installer if yo are a text intensive guy use text installer
Read carefully the instructions and sit by the side of computer during installation to read the warning messages.
For additional information are on this site in bits and pieces.

3. Use an additional user account and never use root account except for administrative work. That opens the computer to the hackers.

4. Use a safe password one for root and one for the user.

5. My smallest root partition is 12 and it has Debian installed without LibreOffice.
It has additional 2GB for the /home partition. It is working fine with AbiWord as the word processor.

6. I do not advice refurbishing old energy hungry computers but a bare bone NUC computer which is now ASUS owned and expensive.

7. I do not like KDE desktop but I have Debian KDE in my NUC ant it runs smoothly and very well integrated with gnome utilities including Synaptic package manager.
I do not like Flatpac and sand-boxing or container utilities. T
hey are for servers not for desktop.

8. Last is about programs
Do not use phpmyadmin or putty if you do not know network administration in nuts and bolts.
There are lot of pdf utilities in Linux
There are lot file managers in Linux and begin to like NEMO and it is next cloud ready.
Stacer
Notepadqq
Rednote and Kdenlive are pretty good.

Inskape
Scribus
Blender
Gnome BOX are workhorses.

Gnome Pie does not work as intended.

9. Special note about Debian Edu
I have used this long time ago once and lost interest on it.
It is most likely for School SETUP for teachers to organize lessons.
It is HUGE package I think need RAIDS to run it.
It is in Latex or Tex language (I am not sure) and has own configuration system.
I accidentally clicked one package and it took over 45 minutes to finish installing  and it opened up but FROZE (not enough capacity in the /root folder) even unable to open the Firefox.
So do not try it unless you have 100GB in the hard disk
I think it needs RAID array for install (Redundant Array of Independent Disks).

10. Tex is killer language and is massive package for RAIDS I believe. I have no idea.

11. I am going back to Puppy Linux and Easy OS I do not like (No Abiword and obsessed with containers).
That's it!

Atari developed a few versions of the operating systems, such as:
– DOS 1.0
– DOS 2.0
– DOS 3
– DOS 2.5
– DOS 4.0
– DOS XE 1.0 (the last one released in 1987).

GENERAL INFORMATION ON Atari DOS 4

The DOS 4 Disk Operating System is a program which controls disk drives on Atari computers. DOS 4 can be configured to run a variety of different disk drives, single-density or double-density, and single-sided or double-sided. DOS 4 consists of three separate parts:
– The File Management System (FMS)
– The Command Processor (CP)
– The Disk Utility Package (DUP)

The FMS remains in computer memory all the time, while the CP and DUP remain on the disk and are loaded into memory only when needed. The File Management System maintains the file structure on the disk. It performs disk input/output (I/O) commands like OPEN, CLOSE, INPUT, and PRINT. The DOS 4 FMS supports all the commands accepted by Atari DOS 2.0. Virtually all software written for DOS 2.0 or DOS 3 will also work on DOS 4.

The Command Processor displays a menu of all the programs on a disk and runs any of them with a single keystroke. The CP also lets you examine the disk directory (a list of all the files on the disk) or run the cartridge (if a cartridge is installed). The Disk Utility Package performs a wide variety of manipulations on disk files, such as copying, locking and unlocking, renaming, and deleting. Among the most useful commands in the DUP are those which copy files from one disk to another or duplicate an entire disk even if you have only one disk drive.
