Energy Saving Desktop Environments

Following are the MB requirement of several distribution in common use.

A guy had done this in his computer probably using Ubuntu.

FreeBSD Text Console       97MB
Openbox                             614MB
MATE                                 1361MB
XFCE                                  1548MB
GNOME                             2622MB
KDE/Plasma                     2843MB

I use Gnome exclusively and was under the impression it uses less MB than KDE.

I am proven wrong.

XFCE of Emmabantus was the safest bet for me.

Another guy has done a separate testing he is reporting under 1000Mb for all.

He probably has done on a virtual machine.

I did research in preparation of writing a book on different desktop environment.

I think it is the features that come with DE that matters not the RAM usage.

Besides, unlike my days RAM is cheap and guys playing games use 32 to 64GB RAM.

My NUC has only 8GB RAM and it is good enough to run the Virtual Machine which uses only 2 GB of RAM when running BOX utility.

What matters is the disk space allocation which needs at least 10GB space. It gets consumed running 3 of 4GB Isos.

Debian is FROZEN for TWO Years and Ubuntu We do not know?

Debian is FROZEN for TWO Years and Ubuntu We do not know?

Yes, Debian is Frozen for 2 years and it is very stable.

No need to test drive and it has Live DVDS (8 in number of different desktops).

Windows guys and girls who Test Drive, Linux only try Mate Desktop which is the minimalist and cry foul of Linux and should read my book would soon before posting adverse comments.

I have decided to to write book on Various Type of Desktops which Puppy Linux introduced in a 512MB USB way back in June 2003, Barry Kauler an Australian Dog Lover.

That was my beginning.

Then I graduated to Pendrive Linux is 2006.

Those were the day I used to go to Singapore on the weekend and bring back Barbi dolls to my daughter and Portable radios to my son.

My First computer with 128RAM and 4MB of video RAM was very expensive and I could not boot Ubuntu 6 on this Intel Computer.

I am going to dump this computer to scrap iron with the blessing of my son (his first computer with windows 95 which he learned his first steps of computing) who is a big adult now.

Better still it would be better placed on a step with concrete on top of it, since iron used in construction has gone up in Ceylon with Maha Raja of India is jacking up prices of metal.

Our Maha or Hora Raja wet his pants when he gets a call from IMF or Adani of India.

He is the one who promised Tablet for Advanced Level students but does not know how to use one. Bookie Man Sumapthipla was his cohort.

By the way, the Laptop I bought in 2009 with Windows on is running Russian Astra Linux (Debian based). When my son lost interest in Windows I erased it.

That is my short history of Linux.

The PC I bought in with two SATA disk is running only on 64 bit Linux distributions including Sparky Linux.

I have lost interest in Sparky Linux which come from Poland.

Poland is an American ally who is conspiring to undermine Linux.

Well, reinstall of Debian 23.10.1 is over.

Good Bye!
