Steam Deck, Gaming Platforms, Tech-High and Tech-Low

I am a Linux User and Windows Hater, not by conviction but by circumstances.

I started with Sinclair and Later Compaq and ultimately settled down with Linux Debian.

I used Windows for my research work (thank you) and games.

When my thesis printout was not according to the requirement of my University (on Microsoft Office) I switched to Sun Solaris OpenOffice and that would have been the trigger for me to switch gradually and totally to Linux.

Why I hate Windows is once you install it one has to add each and rvery  application and game, one by one.

Linux has bundle of utilities in one install but lately probably due to proprietary issues, especially Ubuntu and Mint that bundle has become smaller and smaller.

Windows was very good on cheap games and Linux was known for lack of games.

I was critical of this scenario (lack of games) and used to write a review on every distribution I have tested on all the issues including games. 

Valve and Steam was available  for a long time but without games.

I welcome the Steam Deck mainly because of its portable or mobile Linux distribution, not so much on the availability of games.

I use to carry Puppy and multiple Linux distributions on USB sticks for ages but I need to find a computer and monitor to run them "on the go", especially at an airport.

I hated bulky laptops and messy tablets.

I was thinking of a cellphone with Linux.

It has taken a long time for PINE phone to come up a solution but PINE has become very expensive and I cannot afford it, in my retirement.

Steam deck was like dream come true but it is beyond my purse,too.

Instead I went for a Intel NUC.

Valve will never come to Ceylon with people struggling with economics and hunger.

I have laptop with Endless OS and  an old PC with several Linux distributions on a rotating disk.

I have several portable hard disks with Linux and assortment of USBs running Puppy and Linux.

In fact, with NUC (I have not loaded it with games) adding to my armament, I don't think I should go for a gaming deck.

Even my son is not interested.

My son's first computer with 1MB Video and 4MB RAM I just got refurbished but I haven't got an operating system to boot from a floppy.

This is the computer on which I did my research thesis with lot of statistical diagrams. 

I think Linux does not have a statistical package.

I am not into coding for ages and if I did I would have made the basic framework for a Tiny Linux distribution for one of my Nokia phones.

I suppose I should wean myself off from Linux and computer addiction and enjoy only food and drinks.

Perhaps, I may go back to writing mode and who will buy any of my books with global economic meltdown.

I haven't done a book for over 3 years.

I am still wondering about my writing if not blogging. 

Gaming, Gimmics and My Gut Feelings

I just saw an advertisement for modern mechanical keyboard.

I am a mechanical keyboard man not a digital keyboard lover.

Digital keyboards prompts words but never synonyms which is something I want.

Using the same word is ugly and shows one's inability to use the correct and appropriate word.

This piece is about human physiology and his limitation in eye movements, hand eye coordination and brain function.

What we see is what the brain projects to our eyes.

Number one point in physics is when the light penetrates the lens of the eye it is upside down and left and right inverted.

Let me be in for some diversion.

Mind you these things were not taught to me as a medical  student and I am working them out in my retirement.

Thankfully we did not have fancy hand held gamers when I was a kid and I mastered my physics, quietly and secretly and my teachers were horrible. 

My target was to enter university which I achieved first time and some of my cohorts achieved it 6 to 8 years later.

That speaks of their dedication. 

The criss-crossing of fibers at several levels correct the physical light  aberrations and we sense and think them as real upright. 

In real terms it is illusion of some sort.

This illusion is exploited by gamers.

When fps or frame rate is below 36 the picture appears static.

When it is above 36 the illusion of movement is projected to the eye.

When photo films were made before world war II they realized unless films spin at higher rate the picture  would look static.

So fps of higher rate gives the sense of speed.

So setting a game rate to user's desired level is optional.

At slower rate one can beat the game player and at a higher rate one loses. 

What the kids wants is a win,  so a smart parent should adjust the rate to suit your kid at 7,10 or 16.

After 16 kids are interested in opposite sex and parents should put the gamer back to the box.

If you let he or she keep playing at home is a sure way to promote homosexuality, for me up to a certain age it is physiological and seriously and biologically abnormal beyond the formative years.

The point about the visual resolution is the clarity of the image which depends on the pixel rate of the image. 

The eye contrast above a certain level of pixel rate is non existent and having a bigger graphic capable card does not improve limitations of the eyes.

Of course it is more expensive to the parent who buys it.

We can distinguish only 256 colors and only 16 with clarity.

Computer can resolve millions of color shades.

What matters is to match the graphic resolution to the speed of the CPU.

So buying the latest and the fastest is ill conceived.

As children  grow they outgrow the previous interest and move to a different base level.

Additionally children should learn to share experiences and their gaming  habits and making them feel their gaming machine is better than the neighbors kid is detrimental and encourage jealousy and political paranoia which is an adult disease. 

Worse scenario is addiction which will lead to gambling and drugs. 

My advice is if one has no understanding about children either do not marry or if married do not have children.

In my case if one who is above 25, it is no concern to me he or she  is homosexual or not but leave kids alone and do not prey on them.

There are enough homosexual parties even in Ceylon and become a subservient party member or a priest with sexual disorientation.

I believe that man with correct senses do not need a party or a religion or even a racial orientation to be a real human being worth his or her  weight in gold. 

My First Computer and Intel's NUC

My First Computer and Intel's NUC

The NUC with WiFi and Bluetooth is cute.

My first computer is huge, heavy and was beast (a behemoth).

I cannot lift it BUT it's RAM was 128MB and Video RAM was 4MB.

 

It boots up with CD and I cannot believe, all my research work was done on it.

This may be the first research work done on a computer (earlier it was done on paper and a typewriter) in the Faculty of the University. It had 5 computers with 16MB RAM(I did the pioneering work on the network of computers). 

The computers were discarded from America.

By the way network does not need lot of memory and the server did provide the workload. 

For my research work I used Windows 95 and Office.

 

The office with bad macros could not get my research thesis in full print out.

I bought a dot mat printer and later Cannon Large printer and still later a digital scanner (from my pocket saving from UK). 

University had none.

They all are in working order except the dot mat printer and they fill my bedroom. 

This piece is about my entry into Linux distributions. 

Since my paper print out was bad and did not satisfy University Soecifications, I used Sun Solaris OpenOffice 1 for my research work. 

It removed all Microsoft Macros and I got the paper layout of my research thesis in A4 papers amounting to roughly about 180 pages.

Then I did some search and I found Debian, Suse, Mandriva, XandrOS and Redhat Boot CDs and booted them on a 10 GB hard disk.

I installed them all in 10GB HDD.

That is my Linux beginning without a GURU but with lot of books.

 

The outcome was multiple distributions in one PC.

I never looked back on Microsoft  again after my research work was accepted by the University.

Original hard disk was only 2GB.

I replaced the 10GB HDD and stuck a 80 GB hard disk and installed Debian with only one CD.

All the others need at least 3 CDs for installation.

Windows had about 42 odd floppies.

HDD (Parallel) to  serial SATA was a long journey and I love the NUC with 8GB RAM and 320GB SATA inside and 320GB SATA on an external case.

I have Mint (Ubuntu replacement), Debian, Emmabantus and Ubuntu installed and they are running smoothly on 18 Watts out put and without any noise.

What a turn around in my life with Linux.

I generally do all this just before Christmas BUT I did finish it by 3rd October, 2023.

I have three month holiday from Linux.

Imminent Collapse of the European Union is on

What X-elensky's War on Russia has done is to initiate the total collapse of the European Union.

X-elensky's Curse will actually end the European Union, long before Ukraine's wish becomes a reality.

More than RUSSIA EU is in panic mode.

This is happening when hitherto not seen Far Right is making ground in Europe and America.

Macron's  dream of becoming the elected King of France (now that Queen of England is dead and King Charles becoming a laughing stock soon, with one of his inadvertent and impromptu gig or gag, in a  world forum like global warming or the rain forest or wild life or engendered species) or the De Gaulle's Avatar reborn, will come to an end, soon.

Please do not put the blame on Putin and Russia but look on the EU mirror that has lost its gloss, simply because of the demand of a rouge country like Ukraine.

Macron's lack of diplomacy or slimy politics will be put to test no sooner Russia either annex or demolish Ukraine.

This scenario could have been avoided long time ago, if the media propaganda by a joker or an actor was stymied, and the center stage in European Politics was given to reality of the existential existence of Russia as a global player and not a regional player.

It is no more hilarious when real politics and a mighty army march forwards a rouge country run by CIA.

This winter will bring lot of surprises or changes globally initiated by food and fuel crisis.

It is not going to be rosy.

Debian 11has solved the ESP booting

I just installing Debian 15 series and it has solved UEFI booting problem for good.
I was installing Debian on Intel NUC.
Earlier I stuck a SATA Disk already configured in my PC and had both Ubuntu and Emmabantus.

By the way, my general advice is for one to make a boot USB, since    CD/DVD are becoming obsolete.

Of course one should not activate WiFi by default due to poor WiFi services in this part of the world.

I use WiFi dongle and all Linux distributions automatically detect WiFi provided one has already paid the service provider.

To save money I use prepaid data packages and only stick the dongle when I need to browse.
With ready availability of cellphones using the PC to browse the web is expensive and almost redundant.

Backing OFF after Backed UP

I have stopped backing up (except cellphone data) to cloud using Google Cloud.
For two reasons.

1. Number one my Privacy.
They are my private data.

2. Number two every time I access I have to pay the Service Provider money on MB Rate.
It is no longer FREE.

Every year by Christmas, I save my working data (old data is already old and dead) and erase my hard disk (except the laptop which is like a large cellphone with EndlessOS running).

Then I install the current Linux (Debian, Ubuntu, Mint, Magiea and Emmabantus).

This time I made a little bit different process.

I used an old hard disk mounted on an external disk case to install Linux.

The units are PC, Laptop and my new Intel NUC all of them are running well the latest Linux distributions.

I am going to be in idle mode from today, till January 15th.

I am on holiday mood and mode.

I have 2 extra months thanks to Coronavirus incarceration and I have organized my working environment.

The idea was to overcome memory lapses that come and go probably due to old age and may not be due to vaccine abreaction.

POMR to EBM

It is time for me to revisit my medical career 22 years after calling it off for good.

First of all, tribute to all my batch mates living and left us in good time, long before the pandemic.

My batch had a few bad eggs some  of them were 8 years older to me.

I am not the youngest but one of the five youngest in the batch.

Credit to all my younger colleagues who organized the 50th anniversary of our entry into the University of Peradeniya.

Except the few old bad eggs the rest of my batch mates were Iconic in their own fields of expertise.

Unfortunately Peradeniya University has gone into abyss simply due to Area Based Admission which did irreversible damage to our Northern Friends and finally to the protracted 35 year old ethnic war in Ceylon.

Ill feeling are still simmering but it is time to reflect the good things of the past and forget the few bad eggs which spoiled the soup.

Changing into a different dimension;

This is just a reminder to Russia and Ukraine and they should not be a part to CIA and Neocolonial Propaganda.

It is time for amicable arrangement but unless X-ekensky is taken out of the equation it won't happen.

He is a virtual curse and in Buddha's Term Maraya's living Incarnation.

Russia is a great cultural nation one should not try to wipe it out of modern history.

I do not mind American, especially the democratic hegemony getting wiped out and a responsive conservative or republican government coming to power.

It is inevitable.

Besides politics, coming to POMR and EBM.

EBM or evidenced based medicine is dead.

Reason I do not know.

Most likely in real time, gut reaction, a better term ESP or extra sensory perception should be given a chance to operate and save a life in real time.

I have used this technique, a few times in my life and it really works when nothing in medical field works.

PMOR is simple Problem oriented medical records.

It has two components;

1. Back going problems of no current consequences.

2. On going problems one has to be cognizant.

3. There is no futuristic or stock market projections in Medicine.

It is either current or nonexistent (imagined).

This imagined part belongs to the patients and it is matter of how long one can kick on or better still kick the bucket for good for our planet to recover in real time which is over populated by old humans.

The young should be given adequate space and freedom to breath in new ideas.

As a medical person me pathological, out of date or after the fact determination or NADA the Forensic Expert with current expertise one has to balance the judgement and not be paranoid, at all.

Paranoia (partly futuristic) is an untreatable disease.

Live this moment with Metta and happiness of Upekka (? equanimity is the closest rendering of this Pali term).

Metta is powerful by itself.

My interests are not medical but pure physics and beyond the event horizon and nanotechnology.

But that episode is in 3 months in January 2023 not now but before that I will send a Christmas or New Year card to all who send me the current address.

NUC can Take a SATA Disk with Linux Derivatives

This is an update.
I could not get NUC to mount a Linux distribution installed on a SATA Disk on an External Disk enclosure.

It was all due to bad partitioning and bad  GRUB boot record.
I patiently revisited the mistakes and got Mint and Emmabantus installed and presto when I plugged in the NUC identified the Linux GRUB.
I am currently doing some changes to UBUNTU root partition (resizing and reinstall Ubuntu according to my wishes) to get a home partition installed.

Ubuntu and Mint on a Intel NUC

I bought a NUC without a hard disk and only 8GB RAM.

Intel's  visual secure boot is a bit of a pain.

I am not sure one can dual boot but it has option for Windows and Linux at boot time.

Both Ubuntu 21 and Ubuntu derivative Mint are running sleekly in the box.

I haven't got Steam 3 to test the games.

NUC bottom is for the SATA have disk.

It has power cable and data cable both are tiny.

It runs at 18 Watt capacity when not running games.

NUC top consists of integrated Graphics, System and there are two slots for memory.

It is very quiet when running.

I bought it to cut on my electricity bill.

It has WiFi, unlike my old PC in which, I have to stick a USB Huawei Mobile unit (with a SIM card).

I bought it from Lanka Bell but Lanka Bell service did not reach out house.

Both Linux distributions  booting with a  USB stick avoid proprietary codec utilities but guess, one can download them after installation.

I am not sure whether one has to pay for some utilities which I have no objection to Ubuntu.

Ubuntu guys and girls also have to pay for their rice and curry at a time of global meltdown and food crisis.

There is no free meal which is a saying in UK and I am not sure what Biden''s War machine is saying in America to poor Americans.

May be buy your our own food from Odessa in Ukraine as mercinaries.

Well they can join Ukraine as mercinaries which is already well into action with more than 70% of Ukrainians who are deactivated (in other words dead or injured).

CNN, BBC and FOX News deliberately count down on casualties and if they are not down why are they asking new recruits from abroad?

President Putin is up to it and there is numerical superiority probably 1 to 3 and incrementally rising.

It was not so during early phase of the invasion.

When we had LTTE War we were asked to tighten our belts and my belt had being tight all my life (over work) but after retirement my belly is no more flat but bulging.

That applies (obesity) to all our members including the domestic aid.

I am thankful to Ranil and Combo very soon we will need belts.

I am specially thankful to President Putin, the problem of obesity, he solved without firing a single bullet in the direction of America but unfortunate guys in X-elensky Zone will have sleepless and hungry nights.

This what the war brings but during our ethnic problems we were including LTTE were very well fed.

Not anymore in Ceylon.

Mint has overtaken Ubuntu

Yes Linux Mint has overtaken Ubuntu.

I hated it by being an avid free software addict and never used Mint with commercial codecs in the past.

Time has changed, I have softened and I still say Ubuntu's ESP Utility is FAB and if not for that I would have given up with Ubuntu and stuck only with Debian.

One word about Intel NUC, it only supports USBs of high capacity and one cannot boot from an external SATA connected with a USB 2 or ?3.

I had a 320GB old (not SATA) with corrupt boot record.

I installed Ubuntu and Mint.

I still have 200GB left.
Unlike Apple and Windows, Linux does not have bloatware.

That is it's beauty.

Trying to boot with Debian 15 series was a total failure on the external disk.

But Debian is running superbly on the NUC with WiFi connection.

It does not have Abiword but Emmabantus come and fill up that gap in depreciating and old packages.

I believe for another 5 to 10 years these utilities should remain and we have not recovered from the pandemic but we are going to get hit worse by economics.

Turning to Linux, even this late will bring healthy outcomes.

Thanks Linus Torvalds you are a real Gentleman!

DO NOT throw away old gadgets at least DONATE to schools in the third world.

Justice, Violence and Politics in Ceylon

I have two pieces here on Justice and Violence in Ceylon.

I have avoided politics in Ceylon, since there is not a soul left in Ceylon to get us out of the current plight.

They are all out there to pocket the money to their pockets and nothing filter to the voters who elected them.

When voters (65% of them) are stupid as they are, they deserve one meal a day.

Then only the blood would floor to their brains (physiological reaction to impending hypoglycemia).

All this happened under Sirima and NM and this is history repeating itself but in more devastating terms.

Printing money won't help.

We need commodities in real time.

Screen printing (money and objects) by a printer that prints is good only for America.

By the way, printing has gone up by as almost 500% and school copy books are out of stock and very pricely.

Of course, we did not have power outages, then.

Power outages happened under Premadasa  and I was working with Internationals and they could not operate computers in Digana and we packed them to Hotel Galadari.

These Americans if they do not have Internet connectivity especially for their spyware to which Israel ably helping 😶Americans think world does not exist in the far East especially in Russia and Petersburg Square.

The world is now upside down and Putin and Ruble will start ruling the world.

The upsurge of dollar is going to be temporary.

Come next Winter not this winter Germany and EU will be on the verge of collapse with non menstruating (they do not have feeling when in menopause) women running the financial affairs.

These women are greedy and pocket money to their own pockets, only.

The other term is futuristic investments, not volatile stock markets.

They are all not rice eating nations and Asians will feel the impact of global economic collapse both with wheat flour and rice flour shortages.

I have been living without rice for 15 years (chemical poisoned rice allergy) and currently without chocolates.

I have substituted Tea and Sugar on the hand (Called Alle Kema).

The Ceylon Wonder (with monks advising) is going to be that spirits will go up by 300% in mid October and that alone is enough to change any political power.

In Sirima's time it was Bread or American Piti that made JRJ in very old age to come to power.

By the way, I signed his last blood report as dead report and came home by train and by the time the train  reached Ragama, white flags were coming up.

It is going to be black flags this time round.

I will switch to my Linux piecee and New Physics from now onwards.

Politics is very fluid and bane to me.

Excuse the typos my regular cellphones are dead with no data from MobiTel and Dialog.

Endless OS is Superb

I have updated Endless OS in my laptop today.

It gives my laptop the appearance of a larger version of a cellphone.

It's history is unique.

I hated Microsoft Windows preinstalled when I bought the laptop in Singapore, many moons ago.

Microsoft crafted OEM, BIOS did not allow dual booting or erasing Windows.

But Endless OS did care less and erased everything.

Of course, I removed  the 1000GB SATA hard disk and installed a 120GB hard disk.

Incidentally, Endless OS, too, does not respect dual booting.

The worse scenario, is I cannot boot the laptop with a USB stick having a Linux distribution, due to the BIOS (UEFI) restriction.

I rarely use the laptop but my PC.

Incidentally I bought a Tiny Intel NUC box which is small and cute.

NUC is noise free and costs little with only 15 Watts output.

My reason for buying it was to cut down on the electricity and telephone bills.

Cellphone also costs a lot and recharging it's battery daily is a pain.

Who needs a laptop now?

Portable Linux on an Old Mini Disk

My oldest mini disk had the capacity of 320GB.

I had to go to Singapore to buy it.

It had Windows in it and I have erased it and mounted Linux on it.

It had an attractive box and USB had two ports one probably for power and other for data.

Using Debian Disk Utility I securely, erased it.

Then I had another with 500GB capacity and another with 1000GB.

None had data and old my data is in my PC or in DVDs.

I was a cricket addict and I recorded almost all the cricket matches, after we won the Cricket World Cup.

I do not watch cricket after it became commercial and especially after Indian IPL.

Having said that it looks like we have a good set of young players and given the right attitude we can repeat success.

Good luck to all but I do not like names like kusal, akusal, dhaham and like names.

The players should use their surnames in public and among players calling any other Christian name is OK for comradeship and status.

I think these names killed some players and there is no cricket in Buddha Dhamma.

Buddha played the greatest mental game of all time and absolute concentration on the next ball to play, may be helpful.

I use this in my Linux work.

Coming to the portable disks I installed Ubuntu, Debian, Magiea and Mint in over 350GB each taking roughly 50GB and the rest for the large Home Partition.

With 64 bit Distributions ESP partition is vital for booting and both Debian and Emmabantus have problem with GRUB boot loader and by convention do not use ESP.

If one is using only one distribution and one disk, there is no problem but guy like me who tests and use multiple distributions, in one or two disk ESP is essential.

Step 1
The way about is to install Ubuntu and allow it to take over the disk.
It makes a GRUB boot partition and ESP and one big Root partition.

Then use Gparted and delete the Root partition.

Step 2
Install Debian and let it take over the disk with a Very Big Home Partition.
Delete the home partition and make it smaller.

Repeat this with the 3rd or 4th distributions.

Finally, reinstall Ubuntu and it reads all the distributions and make nice boot menu.

I used to edit the boot menu in the good old days but by this method no editing of the boot menu is needed.

Mint coming from Ubuntu also make a nice GRUB boot record.

1000GB disk was formatted with FAT 32 and NTFS for data.

By the way, I generally use E4 partitioning but for UBUNTU, I used btrfs or butter partitioning.

My understanding of partition types is rudimentary but for Puppy I use FAT 32 and for Knoppix I use Knoppix dedicated partition type.

Forget it's name.

MultSystem also use FAT and I still use it's old (both 32 and 64 bits) iso in a USB, an Ubuntu derivative and only single distributions with single sfsk isos can be mounted (in a USB stick).

Unlike other systems one can delete an iso after installation and it edit the GRUB file accordingly.

It comes from France and make sure to Press F2 to get English language.

No German version available.

I think French hate Germans.

By the way, Linux English magazine is published in Germany and is a very good magazine.

Linux Voice magazine is incorporated.

Since, I do not do any coding I stopped subscribing to it 5 years ago.

With every magazine there are two Linux distributions on DVD.

That alone is worth.

West is Screwed Up by Themselves

It is important I should make a Head Note to this piece, first.

Our analogue eye can see only 36 frames per minute to differentiate, a still image from a moving object.

I think snakes with infrared vision may have more frames per second to target a slow moving mouse.

The cats and dogs with domestication may have lost fps rate in evolution compared to a tiger or lion.

This physiological limitation makes the brain to go into illusion (not delusion that is associated with meditation practice)  mode and enjoy the TV and Video games.

The nerve conduction in human nerves is very slow but interpretation of what one  sees or what one is intending to see make it possible to go into illusion mode.

The magicians are good at this and make the observer to believe in what he says and and substitute hidden objects with an ambidextrous spin.

He is using slow nerve conduction and brain interpretation to twist the reality.

Reality is we cannot see beyond a certain size depending on the size of the lens and twisting of upside down image to an upright and perfect image in motion.

The brain networks relay back (my belief) what is expected not what is happening.

The ball in hand and in motion and next point of arrival is correctly anticipated  and coordinated to make a ball game possible in real time.

The refractory period is important for muscles to act in coordination.

All the gadget will be 20% high due to chip shortage. 

Besides giving the old console to a kid whose parents gone bust post-pandemic is real Santa Close coming home.

By helping the proxy war in Ukraine, America has spoiled this Christmas and no gas and electricity  and more kids will die of hunner in Europe and America.

There is global chip shortage and chip has gone up in price by 20%.

My interest on chips has an indirect relationship.

I want Steam Deck and Dock to succeed. 

It is the Linux Game Box, that comes from America.

It can play both Windows and Linux games.

Problem is the manufacture of graphic cards that can handle frames per second rate of treble the fps of a old cinema films (24) which is now, 72 fps.

There is not a single game box that can exceed 60 fps, currently.

Reason is that the chips are still manufactured at 10 nanometers, too thick.

By the way, the old scientific measure of my time with microscope was in micrometers and not in nanometers until electron microscope came into existence.

We never see actual 3D images but a virtually synthesized image of a cut piece of a block of several pieces into micrometer thin sections.

Unit was one Angstrom in Electron Microscope.

One nano is 10 Angstrom in size.

The American Giant INTEL is falling behind the cellphone industry and even behind on PC manufacture (rather laptops now).

But Intel's NUC box is Cute and  noise free. 

I bought one, under Rs.100,000/= and is running Linux Debian smoothly.

It does not have audio port but I borrowed a USB audio jack from my son to mitigate that minor inconvenience. 

At least in my retirement Linux is running high and I won't try playing games, on my NUC but would like to see a Ceylonese kid playing one.

That won't  happen in Ceylon with food shortages and mothers unable to feed their babies.

Who can buy a NUC box?

We are in total debt thanks to our stupid politicians.

When chip industry is going up a country  with golden sand is planning to export ganja or hashish and sold our shore to China to extract golden sand FREE for chip manufacture.

We are so stupid I wish not to be born in this failed state or island that give silica or sand free to China and takes loans from undeclared private global partners.

It is worse than the bond scams.

When the China start a war to capture Thaiwan the chip industry will have a nose drive.

We could have invited  Intel to build a chip (called FAB) manufacturing unit in Ceylon.

We failed.

At least we should entice Russia to get involved in such an investment since due to Ukraine War, Russia is experiencing, a shortage of chips for their aircrafts and drones.

Out stupid Presedent has already antogonized Russia.

I have never encouraged or have smoked marijuana, even though, I was  relatively a heavy smoker. 

I have only puffed a pipe once in front of my father who had become a Beedi smoker near his death.

He was very poor and I bought the best tobacco from UK to last the last few days of his life on this planet.

I made him a pipe smoker believing he inhales less and the bystanders including me more of it indirectly.

 

That was my scientific logic.

I stopped smoking but continued to become a subtle alcohol addict and it took nearly 12 years of determination to wean myself off.

I have one more addiction and that is good quality tea.

Given the choice of tea and coffee, I prefer tea.

The ratio is 9 cups of tea to one cup of coffee.

 

This has come down drastically due to economics in Ceylon.

Never give a free cup of tea is my current moto, especially to a politician.

Underlying factor is economy.

Coffee is expensive in Ceylon.

I dropped talking about cannabis long time ago when I finished my book on charms of alcohol at Amazon Books. 

Here having named the two biochemicals THC or Tetra Hydro Cannabinnol (alcohol) and CBD or Cannabidiol (oxydized product of THC), I am going to stop talking about cannabioids.

CBD mitigate the psychoactive actions of THC and only good quality industrial variety of Hemp has this property.

What we try to grow in Ceylon has THC and no CBD at all and is called hashsh or ganja. 

Politicians in Ceylon are trying to promote this as  an Ayurveda Medicine.

And it is a prominent woman who is promoting this industry.

Politically she should be wiped out of politics and given the permission to have her own cultivated land made out  of an island made in the sea by the Chinese investors.

The parliament should pass an act and allocate this piece  for her commercial project.

For my part, I will act as an acting director of Apaya, the Hell until a permanent director is made and that is taking a long time in human earth time.

I am going to meet  all these guys at the door to Apaya (I am not allowed to enter the front end, guest room of Apaya until I stop donating Dhammapada to needy Ceylonese).

I am going to start a Hemp Industry in Ceylon to make the pulp for printing Dhamnapada.

By the way, Chinese 5000 years ago discovered Cannabis long before discovering the grain of rice.

Prehistorically hemp was used by our human ancestors 50,000 years ago.

Blogger Pro Application

I had to send my second oldest cellphone to attic and to its original box.

It has only 3G connectivity and could not get Google Play to install blooger application.

I  removed the Hutch SIM and put it on my SamSung basic phone and downloaded blogger application and this is my first post, using it.

I have said it before never accept a used phone, even if it is set to factory setup.

When I go abroad, very rare even internally now due to Covid Restriction, I make it a point to buy a cheap cellphone and dump it, to the nearest dustbin at the last airport of call and use our local phone box to call home.

I could remember about 30 numbers by heart.

Every time I call I try to remember the number long before cellphone came into existence. 

If you lose, misplaced or  unfortunately, if it is stolen, you have a big problem. 

I leave my data phone always at home.

This safety protocol lot of guys and girls forget. 

Everyday tens of thousands of cell phones are stolen by identify thieves.

By the way, I have lost one SIM.

I gave one of my old cellphones with a Hutch data SIM to a stupid guy. 

A Muslim guy hoodwinked him and took the SIM registered under my name.

Ideas was the guy to use my SIM and learn how to use the Internet.

It is over three years and he does not know how to use the cellphone to access Internet. 

The guy put another SIM into the cellphone and I retrieved it to make a formal complaint to the police.

I am still wondering whether Ceylon Police could nail him down.

 I almost lost my battle with ants.

I have a special relationship with mosquitoes and ants.

Mosquitoes I kill with the first opportunity.

This is where President Putin made a big mistake.

Like LTTE the opposition should fear them.

Ants I do not kill them at all, I use them to clear all the termites that attack my 2000 odd books left out of 4000 books, I collected over 45 years, roughly 100 books a year.

One book in three days.

Ant do not eat books but is my ally.

But today, I realized if I give them room they will occupy my steel cupboard.

This steel cupboard had fish food in the bottom shelf but they decided to lay eggs on my medical equipment store, including stethoscope, audioscope and ophthalmoscope, all which are very expensive and not used for nearly 10 years.

I discovered them in the nick of time and quickly took steps to divert them to alternative place for laying eggs.

They are better scavengers than our crows.

However, they managed to lay eggs on the slide box containing spare research slides.

We have not had rain yet but they were all ready to escape from the seasonal rain.

The instinctive nature of their retrieval to domestic cushioning is amazing.

They know in advance the rain is impending.

Usually they come and lay eggs on computers and small electronic equipments.

If one disturbs them they take the eggs away but if you inadvertently switched the computer either you get an electric shock or the circuits will be damaged instantly.

I checked the computer, laptop and the NUC box but I was never prepared for an attack on my medical stuff.

I believe in previous life they would have been practicing medicine and due to their sordid practice of using so many non-essential equipments, they would have ended up, as ants but still had a penchant for expensive medical gadgets.

I was NOT practicing medicine for 20 years and any damage was inconsequential and my family members have more attachment to these equipments than me.

My attempt at disposing them sometime back was thwarted by my family members. 

By the way, the most expensive cardiac stethoscope was disposed few years ago, after I was down with myocarditis due to the vaccine, first dose induced abreaction.

The vaccine kills more people globally and in China than by the normal wild virus, especially after the fourth dose.

By belief is this virus was developed to kill President Putin and it escaped inadvertantly and now, killing normal people.

America and Ukraine got it all wrong.

I got a letter delivered by the post office termites eaten.

It took exactly 7:days for delivery in this blessed land of Ceylon.

There is a sinister effort by the present government to destroy post office and commence a private DHL like high cost delivery system.

Why one should not buy a Tablet

What I say here, equally applies to  a Laptop.

It is better to spend a little more and buy a portable computer with a USB game console.

My support is for Intel NUC which I pronounce as Nuke (not Nike).

In fact, it has become my work force not for games but for my office work.

My one does not have Audio input or output that stops me playing games.

The reason is it consumes less electricity in silent mode and it is smooth and silent.

I use my son's Game PC for gaming which consumes hefty watt output but I currently have  some problems with the audio codecs for Debian Linux but not Linux Mint.

Not everybody has money to buy a Steam Deck and Dock with accessories to go with it.

I am a Linux guy hence I wholeheartedly support Valve and Steam.

I won't support Xbox at all.

It is too expensive and why one pay for an operating system which is buggy and heavy when alternative Linux devices galore with OPEN and FREE operating systems, in the open market.

Coming to Tablet, the design is not sturdy and if one accidentally drop it on the floor or spill your coffee on it one has to put it in  rice cooker (power plug disconnected) with partially boiled rice to absorb the dirt, having removed the battery.

All tablets have sealed batteries and once the battery life expires one cannot replace them.

It is ready for the junk yard.

I have a game console, two tablets one expensive the other cheap Chinese stuff gone dead and no way to activate them.

Only stuff I can reuse are the earphones which I never use.
USB 2 connectors which I have plenty, enough to hang myself on the roof.

Power plug connectors cannot be used on a different device.

Using a Tablet for calls is practically a redundant exercise.

Internet without a Ethernet connector is practically useless.

There is no Ethernet port on Tablets but NUKE has one or sometimes two Ethernet ports.

Everything about Tablet is wasted money.

One can buy two cellphones with four SIM slots.

I have not used a Tab for nearly five years and I have several cellphones to accomplish all my tasks except downloading Linux images.

I am piling up all the boxes containing consoles and tablets.

If somebody gives you an old Laptop or Tablet please flatly refuse.

It can become a pain in the Ar+-se.

Save money, effort and time by purchasing a NUC.

It is fabulous.

I have no interest in talking about the vast array of game boxes and consoles.

It is actually a personal choice.

Please do not force others to buy the game console you bought just yesterday.

Game Players in Linux and Steam OS

 This entry is made due to slow download of Steam OS point to point (P2P).

One must realize that there very good alternatives for Steam OS in Linux.

Batosera is a Linux distribution that support Steam.

But my interest is Sparky Linux game over.

I am going to download it after I finish downloading MX.21.2 64 bit iso,

Little nearly 2GB iso was downloaded in less than an hour by torrent.

P2P download of Steam OS is taking more than 6 hours and I cannot understand why Steam could support torrent file.

I think it is an advertisement gimmick which I hate.

There is hollow or holo OS substitute which I won't waste time on. Some New Linux guys and girls do not undestand how to provide customer service without payload of advertisements or direct pay.

Puppy Linux or Easy Linux Version 4.

 I forgot to mention both EasyOS and FatPup do not suypport my new NUC IBM PC Box.

But both support my old IBM computer.

Thanks to Dialog, IBM NUC Box and Linux Community. In under 10 minutes I was running Puppy on my son's old computer.

It was only 5 minute downloading and writing an image on a 16 GB stick.

No image compression now and capacity was little over 800MB after installation.

It took just 4 minutes for writing a persistent image in my old  rotating disk.

Puppy Linux was my entry to Linux and I love Dogs and Puppy Linux.

Thanks guys in Australia for reviving Easy OS.

Different Flavours and Different Desktops

I am a fan of different Desktops in Linux.
My favorite currently is the Genome.
I was an addict of KDE desktop based on SuSe and PCLinux.
I am a well organized person but not rigid in any way.
KDE was an elegant and organized desktop.
Come Plasma I begin to hate it but the looks and feel of Gnome has now become a part of my life and daily routine.
In that sense I love the Debian early series of 15 kernel.
This distribution had many Desktops from Mate to Cinnamon to Gnome to Plasma to Xfce.
At sign in time one can choose the desktop one likes.
The late Debian series has only streamlined and elegant Plasma but I cannot change from Gnome.
In that sense I like sparky Linux which has minimal to game Linux and is Debian based.

For some unknown reason I do not like Mint and Ubuntu but I have collection of all the live and installable Ubuntu, Mint, Suse.

But lately I have become addicted to Emmabantus for two three reasons.
It has AbiWord.
It had MultiSusyem Utility.
It has enormous collection of packages and had the multi-language capability.
It has Xfce and Lxqt Desktops but it's functionality beats every distribution that is evaluable.
Coming from South African base it an amazing distribution for anybody who loves Linux.
My preferences are
1. Emmabantus xfce.
2. Debian Gnome 
3. Mint Cinnamon desktop
4. Mate from Sparky Linux
5. Of course Ubuntu desktop.
6. PCLinux KDE
7. SuSe
8. Fedora

Why one should use Torrent?

One should never use direct downloads due to many reasons.
One should use Torrent especially in Ceylon  due to power cuts.
I wanted to download 4M Linux for testing and twice it broke down on direct download.
Finally I managed to find the torrent file,
I am currently promoting alternatives to Steam for gaming.
Sparky Linux gaming my first choice.
Through YouTube I found batocera as a good choice.
I am downloading both.
Unfortunately download speed is appalling.
By the way, one çannot access YouTube when there is power cuts.
One can only do one thing during power çuts,
SLEEP.
That is what my son does.
No TV.
No computers.
Laptop is reserved for emergency, but even then no Internet.
It is good time and money for telecom service providers.
Once prepaid fa data is over no more blog pieces.

Writings Obituary for Redhat and SuSe

This Title should have been written long time ago.

Since Ubuntu has taken the same commercial pathway (timing is inopportune with global food and financial crisis), reminding of the importance of the community output  is relevent.

Linpus (or Gonpus in Sinhala), Redflag and DeepIn are Chinese bates and do not swallow them.

Xaomi is another.

I do not know what happened to Calculate Linux of Russia and Stuck Linux of Israel.

Linux strength is it's community.

Any commercial enterprise which highjack the community is bound to fail in 20 years the most.

In fact, 30 years have gone by and these corporations are in crisis and rechenments are on the card.

Do not join them at this point of time.

Their future is bleak.

But Debian will survive and I am currently supporting Sparky Linux the Star that shines.

I am not sure what happened to Aptosid and Aptosid should wipe the dust and come forward.

Pop Os, I don't think would emerge as an alternative with chip crisis on the horizon.

I must write a note on demise of China.

China had being mining Ceylonese sand for ages and their so called Research vessel is blasting rocks in the Hambantita and with global warming and water level rising even Galle is under severe stress due to these as shoddy deals.

Next port of call is going to be Gampaha, and I said this in 1984, long before our regime of curse came into existence.

Their stupid leader from Hambantita is pilfering (under sea operation with the help of China) all the ill gotten treasures and gold and silver.

This remind me of Ranmutu Duwa, Joe Abeywickrama and Arther C Clerk mining gold and silver (from ships sunk long ago) not sand then.

Without golden sand chip industry is in crisis and China will fall from grace to disgrace soon due to their shoddy deals with stupid leaders of the emerging economies in the East and Africa.

They are worse than Muslim Mongolian invaders.

Despise them by all means.

The Coronavirus is only the early warning and the harbinger.

They are a curse to human evolution.

Like Zelensky they are our eternal curse.

Sparky Linux

Debian based Sparky Linux stand up to all the challenges from minimal to games.

I  downloaded and tested Mate which is less than 2GB but mounted on a 4GB USB.

It is sleek and boots briskly unlike Ubuntu or Mint.

Mate desktop avoids clutter similar to original Debian.

It is strange it has only a few entries on YouTube.

Guys in sparky are like stars that shine and do not boast or bloat.

I have no hesitation of recommending it

I make boot CDs using Debian and it does a clean job using about 4MB UFI partition for booting which is the smallest UFI, I have come across.

Rest of the free space is reserved and Gparted cannot claim the free space.

The system is in a different file system and the free space, I think is a FAT partition.

By the way, I installed Mint on butter file system (btrs) and it did a good job formatting the 120 GB left in my terrabyte old rotating disk.

Took a long time and GRUB detected all the other distributions, including Mageia.

The beauty was I had a lantern like speaker with a sprouting water chamber and multi coloured diode lights, which  I could not get to light up (even Ubuntu was not helpful) at booting time and get the audio sounds perfectly (did not use it for 4 full years) playing for my satisfaction.

Mint recharged it perfectly.

Voice recording was perfect.

My black old computer is like a Wesak Lantern for me to see it in the night (with lot of cooling fans).

Mint  got the colour arrangement of diodes also into fine tuning and a nice rhythm.

Thank you Mint.

Regarding the Sparky Linux I am going to download both games and media distribution for testing.
If one does not like Debian Sparky Linux is very good alternative.

I am sorry to realize Aptosid which was a Sidusx derivative has been discontinued from 2013 almost over a decade.

It has all the features of Memphis another Debian derivative I really liked my early days when dual booting with Windows 98:and I was struggling with 4MB RAM fortunately not with 42 Floppy Disks of Windows 95.
I had only 6 or 7 Debian 6 version.
1.;Install Windows.
2.install Partition Magic.
3.  Use partition magic to prepare Ex4 and brtrs file systems.
4. Boot Debian 6.
5. Use open office instead of Microsoft Words.
6. Migrated to open office in Debian.
7. Started using Debian derivative Mephis.
8. I was playing with SuSe Linux,  Redhat and Caldera Linux.
I have lot of books on Redhat and one book
on SuSe (Bible Book series).
Sadly no books on Debian but a man page which I hated. 
9.:I started writing books on Linux especially how to partition a 80GB hard disk and boot multiple Linux distributions.
10. Coming to Mephis which is early KDE desktop which was neat and clean.
It's ash coloured graphical instalation menu was well organized
Welcome screen when clicked.
Then I think an internal duction.
Then GRUB menu.
Then User and root registration.
Internet configuration which I use to skip (no ethernet in Ceylon then).
Using partition already prepared by Partition Magic for root, boot and home (no vat or user or tmp partitions then in my vocabulary.
Installation and run Linux instead of Windows at boot time.
Aptosid had all what I described above but I only ran Aptosid live.

The top of the pops are Puppy and Knoppix.

I have renamed Knoppix as Toppix.

In fact, I booted Puppy Linux on a 512MB USB.

That is how I started and I loved Finnix, DSL and 4M Linux (? Media, Maintain, Multiple ???).

I hated bloated Linux.
Now KDE, Gnome and Cinnamon are resource hungry whereas xfce, fm, likeworm and many more I forget the names).
I am going to settle down on MATE.


Ubuntu, Peppermint, Zorin, Pop Os, Gpart, (there should be a new Linux named "GonPart" in memory of failing memory of Sleepy Joe and his war machine), portable DSL and (new one should be named Sleepy Joe)  Dream Linux, Xandros were not in my original list.

Linux Success Story and Windows Global Failure

I have no intention of helping Windows at all.

Windows failure can be summarized by a single sentence.

It's corporate mentality and the belief that they know what is best for the Putative User, lead to it's total failure.

It is surviving on Samba, Bind and  Python all Unix/Linux Utilities.

It's only success is front end desktop which is glorified beyond it's original use.

To entice and lure a to play games.

Steam Deck and Dock put an end to that domination.

Linux can play windows games but not vice versa.

Windows cannot play Linux games.

It is trying to muddy the cloud in vain.

It's current attempt to use Linux Python for reentry will end up in total disaster.

I pity for the guy or girl who would embrace windows as a workaround and positioning in the IOT.

The Linux failure was not of its own making.

It is totally due to discrimination by OEM guys at the behest of Microsoft corporate plan.

That plan has misfired and Linux is the main operating system for NASA for many reasons.

I want to write a book on Linux Fundamentals from Ceylon, the country in peril with debt crisis.

We are a country which is good in killing it's own citizens in the name of many dogmata.

This country had a president who did not have a email when tsunami hit us.

Then we had a stupid president who came from paddy land and ruined Telecom by appointing his brother as a director.

He was good eating hoppers in Singapore when another ex- president was planning a clandestine attack on Churches with money coming from Middle East.

The current president is well known for his sexual orientation in favour of one sex or UniSex.

He wanted to give laptop for every kid in school but did not understand there is something called Linux.

We would have saved lot of money which went to US through Microsoft Windows, if we adopted Linux in Public sector.

But we did not.

By the way, the computer literacy is appalling and general understanding is if one knows the 25 letters of English and 10 numbers and a few equations, on a work sheet or  log sheet in the monitor, that is wizardry.

For me writing a book for local guy or girl is a total waste.

It is for the global community.

Coming to Linux I started with Puppy Linux, graduated to Knoppix and ended up in Debian.

We had a clever guy by the name of Anuradha who is a wizard in Linux.

He could give the cordinates for a particular location in Ceylon very precisely, without the aid of a computer  which President Putin would be jealous of, if he wants to send a missile to Ceylon for testing.

I do not know where he is now.

Somewhere on Top of Linux the Code.

I was going through all the Linux distribution written on CDs and DVDs to trace from where I started, apart from Puppy Linux and Knoppix.

I think Mepis Linux  would have been my crunch or crux point.

Before that it was Redhat Linux from 7 to 9.

Then Mandtake Linux up to 9 and SuSe Linux.

I have tested from DSL to Nimble Linux to MX and 200 or more.
I still have copies my archive.

I did not count the number of CD/DVD probably 2000 half the book store of 4000 books.

I got the urge to burn them starting from Buddhist books eaten by white ants.

One of my friends stopped it and I found a cure for white ants.

I did not get stuck on one distribution.

I moved on.

There was Berry Linux and Turbo Linux from Japan.

Linpus from Singapore.

Calculate Linux from Russia.

Garuda Linux from ? Spain.

MultiSystem  Linux from France.

CIA tried LPS and failed.

STUX from Israel to attack nuclear plant in Iran.

Linux magazine from Germany.

Hantana Linux and Ceylon Linux from Ceylon.

SuperOS from India.

Nothing from Malaysia.

Now DeepIn from China.

ChromeOS and Chrome Book have a special place.

Xandros true to emulate windows and failed.

The failure of Linux was due to these guys trying to go independent without a community.

Instead of tagging with Ubuntu or Debian these guys tried to reinvent the wheel and they failed.

Simply because they did not have a backup community unlike Redhat and SuSe.

I have not mentioned but tested Simply Memphis, Mint, Manjaro, PCLinux, Emmabantus, Elive, Elementary OS, EndlessOS and many more.

The strength of Linux is it's global community.

It will go from strength to strength.

I am going to burn all 32 bit CD and DVDs and Keep 64 distributions.

I will keep all Puppy Linux (of  about 100) and Knoppix about 10 starting from 3.4 and currently at 9.1 in English.

I have stopped subscribing to the Linux Magazine to save money.

It comes from Germany and is the best.

Linux Torvalds is toying with kernel ? 15.1.12 and I would try it on new Intel's NUC.

NUC is pretty good.

Do not waste your time on Raspberry pi.
