Kamma and Rebirth

Consciousness

Mind and Brain Duality

The consciousness can manifest itself without fully functioning  brain in 3 situations.

1. Near Death Syndrome (NDE)

2. Apparently brain damaged individuals regaining consciousness at the time of death.

3. Apparent consciousness in person with minimal brain function.

There are also children with very thin brain tissue with severe hydrocephaly with high intelligence.

There is another situation where young children remember past life experiences not necessarily the immediate past life  (may be several thousand years old).

In this scenario memory is not related to the current life.

It is time for scientist to record these events and study them objectively.

As far as I know only Ian Stevenson of Virginia University has done some studies and one of his students pursue on this line of studies.

This piece has many ideas and I have some vital disagreements with the way of life of Dhamma, especially its attitude to plant kingdom.

I do not blame Buddha for his course of action.

He was totally focused on one thing
.

It is the mind and nothing more.

He was focused on every  BORN  MIND which attaches itself at death consciousness to birth consciousness of another life stream.

The born mind drives the wheel of karma and rebirth.

The unborn mind stops the wheel of rebirth but it exists in a subtle form unentangled with worldly things.

It is Lokotthara or beyond this world of MAYA or total imagination of me, myself and I concept.

Whereas, plants do not have an organized  brain but only life and does not get attached to another plant, so a death of a plant or seed is total annihilation and no rebirth.

In that sense, killing a plant has more consequences to this planet (my obsession and valid concern) than killing an animal life, since animal life can be reborn again in an another planet, if not this planet.

That important distinction should be born  in one's mind to begin with.

For me this is the only planet, I know of and both animals and plants are my interest and we are NOW, deep into the sixth extinction.

One word about the UNBORN MIND.

It is Buddha's total dedication.

In my understanding that NIBBANA is the unborn MIND (since it has no Rebirth consciousness) out of born minds of unattained guys and girls, you and me.

It is NOT total annihilation but UNBORN, MIND, since MIND as a form of ENERGY could not be destroyed but only TRANSFORMED.

This is an opinion not a DOGMA.

You should read the following with that in grasp to understand the logic of Dhamma and Karma and Rebirth.

It is 12-02-2021 and the South West Cloud movement has begun.

It will be a long dry spell and farmers without water will have a torrid time.

Not only Coronavirus but water shortage and electricity cuts are on the card.

It will not be a good April New Year, if monsoon rain does not intervene.

This entry of course, is to correct many mistakes made in the past as regard to
Dhamma.

Since my data is coming down fast and I do not intend to replenish data for finger printing,  many lines are appropriate, here.

I have stated there are five Jhana States and it should be corrected as IV (four).

Some texts describe up to VIII Jhana States.

One can attain IV Jhana States as a human being.

From V to VIII are probably Minds States that  some beings possess in Arupawatara Lokas (mind without body form) or States.

Javana is the Pali word used to describe the behaviour of mind and please do not confuse.

In Jhana States, one achieves a kind of happy States.

1. Piti
2. Suka
3. Ekaggatata
4. Equanimity

Even these States are hindrance to Vipassana Samadhi, the goal of higher Dhamma.

The upward mobility starts with

1. Metta or Compassion
2. Karuna or Loving Kindness
3. Muditha or Sympathetic Joy
4. Upekka, the word equanimity is the closest English equivalent but not the exact translation.

It is the balanced, neutral, unattached and nonjudgemental state of mind very difficult to achieve.

Ana Pana Sati or Ekaggatata (one pointedness of mind's attention) meditation is somewhat low down in the scale of purity of the mind.

Only an entry point.

But entry point in Dhamma has five scales in ascendance.

1. Saddha or Faith

2. Viriya or Sustained Attempt

3. Sati is the mindfullness in meditation

4. Samadhi or sustained concentration

5. The goal is Pagna or the Highest Wisdom

One has, to drop 5 Nivaranas or hindrances
1. Greed or Loba
2. Hate or Dosa
3. Ignorance or Moha
4. Raga or bondage
5. Sloth and Torpor

They are also described as 4 extremes or Agatis, if one leaves out the 5th, the slow or indifference to mental accompaniments.

In Jhana States one has to drop all mental.activities one by one.

1. Subdue or Control, all objective or subjective thought moments arising spontaneously

2. Focus on Residual Thought Moments in Bhavanaga Sota Stream of Mind (in Sansara).

3. Piti

4. Suka

5. Samadhi

All these are addictive and are hindrances to Pagna or Wisdom.

6. Ekagatata or Equanimity.

In the last stage of Upekka, one begins to have a glimpse of the reality of existence in Sansara life stream, uninterrupted with deep bondage and its self perseverance, ad hoc.

The Jhana States are absolute hindrance to critical analysis and abstract thinking necessary to understand the behaviour of  the Mind.

I must state a recent discovery of mine.

One of my friends, who is like a saint after a couple of drinks told me alcohol, drugs and meditative trance, all induce temporary state of ecstasy.

They all aspire the same thing.

ECSTASY!

All three are addictive in nature, he elaborated.

My medical input is, all are brought on
by ENCEPHALINS made within the nervous system.

In other words, all three are excessive self indulgences of no merit.

The craving for endogenous  "Feel  Good Hormones".

By the way, extreme sports, marathon, mountain climbing, preparation for Olympics and big boxing matches peak them in feel good hormones and with win or lose, these hormone evaporate into thin air immediately afterwards.

Even watching these events as a spectator elevate these hormones, probably  more of stress hormones and a sense of ecstasy with a win and a corresponding gloom with a loss.

That is why some sports are addictive as bad as gambling.

I think even cellphone games are addictive and I am beginning to control the urge to play them.

Game developers know this and take advance of this self induction with endogenous hormones.

Instead,  I  turn my mind to my rooftop garden, and with dry season approaching, I have enough to keep me occupied.

Anything in excess is an addiction but flowers are a soothing antidote.

Coming back to my critical talking point, gathering knowledge, in any  new subject domain needs the ability to think in abstract terms and later analysis for the pros and cons associated with.

Not many are endowed with both.

The Jhanas provide temporary ecstasy in heavenly aboard.

One spends the credits earned in many lives in one go (like a big purchase on a credit card), in heaven for some time and slide down to the animal kingdom invariably.

Human Birth is rare and wasting its many resources are not prudent in general terms.

Meditation in my view is a waste of time in solitude, even though, it gives a temporary sense of tranquility.

It is OK for monks but not for busy people with family commitments.

Before, coming to nuts and bolts, let me state few historical facts, some related to geography and some to language.

Word of Buddha reached China after 700 years and in Sanskrit.

It reached Burma and Thailand 1000 or more years later and in Pali, probably by sea route.

Nepal or the Magada State is landlocked and Buddhism did not reach even Tibet until 1200 years or more later.

One should assume that all these countries had some form of a belief system and were not conducive, if not antagonistic to imported or foreign ideas.

China is a good example.

Now  things were not recorded even in Aluvihara in Ceylon, till 1700 years later after the passing away of Buddha.

My point here, with passing away of time and cultural influence, nothing called Pure Dhamma existed but colossal literature
, that include Dhammapada, which gives an insight, to its teaching.

What excited me was that, every volitional action is related to the Mind and many years of me studying  Medicine did not prepare me to understand the Mysterious Nature of Mind, either.

So, prudently, I postponed digging into Dhamma in my young years.

I bought a huge Dictionary of Buddhism and it had more than 10 pages on the Word Dhamma.

I knew, all the English translators got it wrong somewhere, having not studied Pali in depth.

Only, oral traditions were existing for a very long time before that
. This why the 6 Buddhist councils are important in the Evolution of Modern Dhamma.

The Tibetan approach, I never liked and trying to become a modern Buddha with the glamour of TV screens is redundant.

After all, I hate China for subduing  Dalai Lama and invading Tibet for no reason other than economic and expanding its Silk Road initiative
.

I think Coronavirus was the befitting curse
that befalls on China for decades to come and its silk road dream of economic strangle will peter out, in real terms and in real time.

I hate Mao Se tung and Carl Marx for destroying thousands of years of Chinese Culture.

In that case,  President Putin is much wiser, who sticks to Orthodox Church.

The long preamble is essential and many Mahayana and Hinayana traditions are a utter waste.

In a nutshell, Dhamma is based on two cardinal concepts.

1. Kamma and Rebirth.

2. Action and Result or Cause and Effect.

The one who does not believe in these two is not a Buddhist in Practice.

If somebody kills any life he has to reap benefits as food in this life, as well as his repentance in future life in animal kingdom or may be killed by his or her own mates as a food item.

Think about that scenario!

The powerful emperor the King Asoka, rarely erected sandstone in Buddhist Terms.

His obsession was to stop animal killings and he would sentence to death a man who  has violently killed an animal and in that sense, he did not practice Metta or loving kindness to his subjects.

He is the first King in history who formulated rules and regulations not based on a book or scripture but by common sense.

His sandstone depicted these themes and Muslim invaders of course destroyed them.

In that sense, Jews and Muslim not eating pork and Hindu not eating beef is not valid on animal rights claims.

In actual fact, Hindus eat pork and Muslims eat beef and the so called compensation by religious practice is fully nullified and all animals are killed by default.

To this add Ceylonese and Thai Buddhists who will eat meat killed by both Muslims and Hindus.

What a cohort?

Then why only human rights?

Is it to violate the fundamental rights of any other living being?

Any life is precious to its owner and becoming a vegetarian should not be a fashion.

My analysis shows that to produce one kilo of beef one need eight kilos of grain.

By grains alone, 8 can be fed instead of 1 with only meat.

Meat is non essential and plant proteins can easily make good the protein requirements.

This principle (not needing animal) was illustrated by one of my Tamil friends from Jaffna who was a total vegetarian, no eggs and the tallest and the heaviest in our batch.

My friend won the putshot by a big margin!

The elephant is totally vegetarian and some big whales, too eat only plants.

What a scientific fact?

I forgot a big point in my argument.

How many animals an American eat by 50?

If an American dies prematurely how many animals would be saved?

It is as important as 8 to 1 ratio of grains.

The ratio can be 100 animals  to one American life.

So an American dying is a blessing to the animal kingdom.

What an outcome after Coronavirus?

I did not have the premonition to vision this glory.

Developing vaccine or antibodies by killing animals is not prudent in that sense.

This simple arrhythmic 8 against 1, both the UNO and the WHO cannot understand.

It has no population control policy of any sort.

The mother nature takes its own initiative to prevent animal slaughter by killing the man first.

That is a realistic approach
.

The world has a limited capacity and we won't be able to colonize any planet to escape from this virus.

Buddhism did not take root in China and India, simply due to this Truth of Craving for Animal Flesh.

Any ordinary man in India and China loves meat including chicken.

Few facts about Mad Cow Disease and processed Faked Fats.

In England and USA beef is the major food protein consumed.
So to fatten the cattle and bulls they fed animal flesh discarded in the slaughter houses mixed with pasture to all animals especially cattle who only eat plants.

They do not have enzyme system to digest these by products and some of these fats get deposited in the brain as amyloid proteins.

After all cows getting ill or mad is no concern, since they are ultimately sacrificed as human food.

But irony was lot of British and American guys became demented in the long run and cattle farmers and the government hid these medical facts for decades and finally they had to publish some data about Mad Cow Disease (mind you I was eating and relishing on beef, pork, lamb, chicken and fish as a bachelor and in fact I looked like a human pig).

Moments the reports were published, overnight, I stopped eating beef and started eating only fish.

I am a total vegetarian now but eat eggs.

The elements causing Mad Cow Disease are animal fats that human cannot digest fully (animals also cannot digest them) and get deposited in heart, liver and dangerously in the brain.
These undigested fats are called
amyloid proteins and are mixed with various proteins trapped with in them.

The next is Chinese contribution.

The Chinese wet farm refuse is added as fodder to animals and fats are extracted for human consumption and converted into assortment of margarine.

These margarine are nicely flavoured and wrapped and our bread makers use them liberally instead of butter, milk and coconut oil.

A mass food crisis (FAT CRISIS) is in the offing.

So all the ingredients of Mad Cow Disease is in our Bread or "
Chun-Pan".

Even a total.vegetarian, overtime  can be affected by Mad Cow Disease.

That is the bottom line and STOP eating Margarine and Wasana Cakes made from them.

The April New Year coming bread makers work full time to use these palm oils and margarine (substitute for real coconut oil).

Coconut oil is the best oil and converting coconut oil to margarine is a CRIME and a CRISIS.

Eat butter and curd, drink milk and avoid all margarine.

Over 30 years I stopped buying margarine.

Continued drinking milk and making home made yogurts until a liter of milk became over Rs.200/= or more.

Do not eat food made of these margarine (biscuits, cakes, pastries and
Chun Pan).

The necessary prerequisite for a Buddhist, even not intending to study Dhamma is to stop killing and not eating meat of any kind, fish included.

For centuries we had wars in this country and eating flesh predated nationhood and race, even in Ceylon.

So, Sansara is the essence.

The precursor of birth is death in elsewhere.

It is interlinked instantaneously and there is no Antarbhawa.

The death consciousness is the birth consciousness in essence.

With the Coronavirus calamity, one who does not believe in rebirth, tries to hang on to the ventilator or to believe in the putative efficacy of the vaccines.

Both allude to the reality that one would kick the bucket in many ways than one, anyway.

So give up that psychosis of Coronavirus and live this moment in happiness.

Somanassa Citta not Domanassa Citta.

In Sansara Concept, there are few levels of life.

If we take Manussa or Man in the middle, the higher level above is Deva where one spends his / her merit credit in one go.

Only a few Stream Entry Anagamis reach higher status or Nibbana in heaven.

The rest climb down rarely to manhood but naturally to the animal kingdom.

That is why I call the manhood /womanhood is very precious.

One may climb up from animal to human world rarely with previous Good Kamma.

Those who act in killing in wars only go to hell or animal kingdom.

The Vipaka or cause and effect has its ending there.

Kamma is actually all actions including killing in war.

The result or Vipaka is the outcome.

So avoiding killing and wars are mandatory for healthy human living.

One may be born in animal kingdom and be killed and eaten by another man or woman in the next life.

In fact, one may be eating his or her own kith and kin born in the animal kingdom.

How nice or naive is that?

That is the bottom line and the summum bonum!

The level below animals is
spirit levels and demons and the upward mobility is rare.

I think born as a free bird is not as bad as spirits and demons.

I call the aliens who visit us from time to time are in between humans and heavenly beings but are humanoid all the same.

FACING DEATH
Facing death, even for a Buddhist who believes in Rebirth is a difficult preposition.

This is very difficult if the one who is dying is a kid.

It is imperative that I should write this end piece as a doctor and not as a priest.

Religions have many ways but none of their methods is perfect.

One who is about to exit has a deep fear when tunnel vision emerges.

It is a momentary period of lucidity out of a a dark halo.

One wonders whether to hold on to the failing body or let go to the unknown.

I am not sure how one in Jhana State handles this.

My description here is for an ordinary guy / girl.

It is better to explain with a few real examples.

Number one, with a sweet gentleman in mid eighties.

He was misdiagnosed and was in coma due to overdose of saline with clinical and laboratory confirmed hyponatraemia.

I had to reach the extended family with many grandchildren.
I asked them.
They wished to have a lucid moment with him.

I said I will try for 10 days and not more.

To my surprise on the 9th day he opened his eyes briefly and I got the family to be present the next day.

The nurses were excellent and propped him up with a head rest and I prompted, the grandchildren to wake him up for a brief period in the morning and in the evening and everybody had a chance for the next five days or so.

I had only one demand and that was, one with the strongest will power should hold his hand at the time of his last breath with a nurse attending, me nowhere near his bed.

The reason, he got attached to me in between.

The next was my favourite and he requested only me to be present.

I took the opportunity to convert him to Buddhist ideology with oxygen tank in supply for nearly 5 days.

The moment came I gripped his hand lightly.

He did not have any strength left to grip me.

Most of the others did not have any desires or requests for me and I let the nurses handle them.

The third one was an anomaly.

He was the only one who had a beautiful smile at the corners of his mouth.

Very unusual and all the others, I had witnessed had subdued fear.

I was not near him at his departure time and I probed.

He was an alcoholic and had a mild heart attack.

He faked pain and got an overdose of morphine.

I do not think his next life was favourable due to his intention of faking in the moment of death consciousness.

In my opinion, loading with drugs at the time of death is inappropriate and hinder the momentary lucid interval that helps into the next life.

In that sense recitals of faith may be helpful but wrong view of the faith may land one definitely in Hell not in Heaven.

In that sense, masterly inactivity at the time of death is the best approach, since nobody has control over one's death or the next birth.

I will finish this with few hypotherical scenarios which I have not experienced.

The encounter at the goal of death.

1. The executioner and the convict.
One in mortal fear and other indifferent to life.

2. The accidental death.

3. Home death with priests attending.

4. Hospital death, already described.

5. Death in battlefield.

Theoretically, if one can apply equanimity at  the point of departure in the belief that death does not terminate Sansara may be helpful to reduce the engulfing fear.

That is only a hope, nothing more.

One has no control over the next birth or the next existence but a totally natural phenomenon, common to all forms of life.

So let go the attachment to this present but failing body.

Oxygen puff may be helpful but not the ventilator which prolongs the agony to nursing staff, next of kins and more importantly to one who is in the death bed.

Oviparity, Viviparity, Masupialization and Mammalian Evolution

It is a fascinating story how placenta came into existence from an unprotected egg to marsupian duck bill platipus to the nursing mother.

I won't go into evolution but write a few lines about the placenta for posterity.

The placenta is a big parasite.

It evades maternal immune rejection and we have not yet worked out its mysterious ways.

It is discarded with only a cursory look,  at the time of birth, since the baby is the center of attraction.

After 1970s only a few have done any in depth studies.

I am not going to land with list of questions but take a little pause and write few lines.

I have done some basic investigations which are published for perusal but never bothered to write a few line of its mastery in evasion of hostility in evolution.

Placental HLA or human leukocyte antigens are different from maternal antigens.

It is intimately associated with maternal blood and maternal antibodies and lymphocytes.

Its HLA antigens arise early in embryonic development and it projects a potent barrier while invading the maternal uterus.

It has two layers one foetal and one maternal.

Amnion and Chorion (from which the placenta develops) are foetal.

It has only two layers of cells, the cellar cytotrophoblast layer and the multicellular syncytiotrophoblast layer.
Only the multicellular counterpart is seen when the placenta becomes mature.

It does not become old but gradually  disintegrates after 40 weeks.

It resembles the symbiotic cell at the beginning of evolution, all mucoprotein but no nuclear material and a few fragments of nuclear material arranged as syncytial knots.

How does a large syncytium works in a all pervasive cellular world?

That is the only question of mine in this piece.

Basalis is the maternal mesoderm that gets vascularized gradually and extensively.

Basalis is maternal where spiral arteries empty its contents and filter all foetal blood to maternal venous sinuses.

It grows up to 40 weeks of gestation and wither off by 42 weeks.

It provides all the foetal hormones and control the maternal pituitary gland.

That's all about it.

HCG or Human Choriogonadotrophic Hormone is foetal and no counterparts in adults except its oestrogenic and progesterone actions.

My only contribution here is the large and mysterious Fibrinonection, mucopolysaccharide and protein molecule that are seen in the placenta especially up to 36 weeks of gestation which provide a ground base of nutrition and virtual mop up molecule  or barrier for maternal antibodies present and in evolution, over the course of pregnancy..

This is almost same to the Fibrinonectin that exudes at the site of injury before granulation tissue of healing invades it.

Almost the same Fibrinonectin that provides a scaffolding for the cancer cells to form an angiogenic front.

So in my view, Fibrinonectin which I call the molecular glue does all the work by itself without a nucleus.

So it may be the grand old evolutionary molecule equal in potential to heat shock protein that started the life on this planet.

Nobody has done any worthwhile work on Heat Shock Protein (HSP) that are present in prokaryocytes and eukaryocytes.

My View of Theory of Space

My Theory of Space is very strange.

Nobody should take any cue out of it and try to develop a new or alternative physics.

Only for perusal and no critical analysis.

Just let go with Buddhist detached and unentangled approach.

If entangled it is your own misery.

Simply, I do not like the current physics and since I cannot destroy the current physics, just like the existing religious theories, I would like to take Micky Out of my own imagination gone riotious.

It is just like our mind.

Mind exists (I even contend that mind can exist in very subtle form without a brain base. If it exists only with brain base telepathy is impossible ecomplish) in relation to brain and we cannot pin point where it is located, just like our memory.

Mind is a form of energy and it can exist irrespective of material base.
Outrageous but true.

This analogy is not exact, since space just like mind we cannot see but it exists.

My bone of contention is the world is an infinite spectrum of energy forms, including mind energy and the beauty of any energy form is if any freedom or space is given it will be taken by an energy of higher form.

The current expansion of the universe can be explained without any difficulty if that ploy is used.

The existence of matter and it's spin on various axical points can also be explained and that energy of spin comes from the expended space energy as it move past the objects of matter.

Space cannot exist since any available space or freedom is taken up by some form of energy from the whole spectrum of energy including energy of space.

In this scenario, one does not envisage the boundary or limit of the universe.

Equally putative space in a nucleus of an atom can be discarded with no space but spectrum of energy concept.
UpThere are subtle gradation of energy forms invisible in submicroscopic or atomic range.

The putative theory that something comes from nothing (Almighty God is also done away with easily) is also discarded easily.

Every thing is nothing but energy including what we call space which is expanding.

From where does the energy of expansion comes from?

Equally energy cannot be destroyed but converted to more subtle energy forms innumerable both measurable and not measurable.

What we have is energy forms visible and detectable and energy form invisible and undetectable.

The current physics is based on detectable and visible energy and just like we cannot measure mind energy space energy cannot be varifiable but expressed by my imagination gone wild for that moment of theoretical analysis.

This is totally outside of the dark matter and dark energy and space energy exists on its own accord.

Dark matter and dark energy are an entirely different ball game and outside the scope of this entry.

Now I want to add few more spins into this space game.

There are entities without space and they are called black holes.
They cannot be seen and their presence can be surmised by the tangential reflection of light at its borders.
Even the light is absorbed or consumed and in that process some sort of reflection does take place.

Blood Grouping and Blood Transfusion Protocol

This was a procedural protocol and instructions, leading to blood Grouping and Blood Transfusion, I made while (to ensure Quality Control) working in a private medical institution.
I detected many systemic errors and finally recruited a medical graduate to supervise the procedure.
Most of the young guys and girls were poorly trained and ultimately computer typists were wrongly  incriminated when something goes radically wrong.
The medical  graduate was under my direct supervision, luckily for me she had worked briefly at the Colombo Blood Transfusion Center.
Happy to say, the short period of Quality Management Guidance, I did, nothing untoward happened.

Purpose
              1. Eliminate errors at all levels
              2. Streamline Procedure

Requirements and Objectives
Request Form, Report and the Computer Database should tally 100%.
Duplicate should be recorded separately for checking with the in ward entries.

01. Design customized Request Form for Blood Grouping and Blood Transfusion.

02. Only Blood Grouping and Transfusion needs should be entered in the form and nothing else.

03. It is necessary to develop a dedicated computer program for this purpose at the end of the initial observation period.

04. Any other investigation ( eg. Antenatal, VDRL, HIV status and Hb should be requested in different forms)

05. Person who does the ordering should be clearly stated.
Ideally he/she should fill and sign the request form.

06. Naming and labelling should be done by the same person.
Ideally the person who ordered the request should sample but if delegated to another person that person should cross check with the person who ordered the original request and sign appropriately.

07. At the reception and at the cashier's point, patient identification should be 100% accurate.
Full name should be entered and speckling should be correct.
For some such as medical examination and visa purposes National ID and Passport Number were required before payment and sampling.

08. When Grouping blood related donors the relationship to each other and to the patient should be clearly stated (father, mother, son, daughter etc).

09. A patient dedicated identification code should be designed and retained in the computer memory.

10. Identification details should be double checked  before payment is obtained.

11. Whether testing is routine or urgent should be clearly stated.

12. Samples properly labelled and checked should be sent to the laboratory as soon as possible.
There should not be any delay.

13.  Duplicate computer request form should be obtained as soon as possible.

14. The original and duplicate computer request form should be stapled together and not with clips or pins.

15. The seal should be eliminated.
What' the point.
Rubber stamping errors?

16. The computer request form and the original request form should have appropriate printed caging for entering results in detail

17. Testing should be done by the most experienced MLT.
If for any reason delegated to a junior MLT  he/she should be supervised appropriately by the senior MLT.

18 As far as possible individual samples should be tested.

19. The report should go as a simple dedicated report and not grouped with other reports.

20. Unlike other reports when report is handed over it should be documented with a signature to avoid producing duplicate reports for misplaced of lost reports by the requested patient.

Now you wonder why this was posted.

I know nobody will read this.

One who is a care giver only should read from beyond this point.

With Coronavirus pandemic lot of errors of  omissions and commission are committed in the intensive care units often affecting the first responders and care givers.
I used to say with 10 items (it is posted elsewhere) I could manage a rural hospital, which I did during Pan Polling days of Sirima and NM.

Saline
Pain killers IM
Diuretic Frusemide IV
Hydrocortisone then but potent dexamethasone derivative now

Nebulizer with Controlled Oxygen supply (28%) not avaible then but only a face mask

Plasma
Blood I never had

Broad spectrum antibiotics rarely used.

Good old days we realized some patients needed intensive care, often for post surgical patients.

Surgical Intensive Care was born.

Blood Transfusion Unit was the major supply unit.

I was a link man between the laboratory and blood bank and had lot of time to spare unlike other guys.

Girls were very few then in intensive care barring of course nurses.

I / we often lost lot of patients but saved a few important guys like retired old Prime Ministers and Venerable monks.

Lost was due to initial delay in recognising the very sick from the sick.

The patients in SHOCK or end organ failure.

Then we developed medical intensive care units.

Lastly the renal unit.

No liver transplantation units then.

I used to love teaching metabolic shock and organ failures.

1. Heart Failure
2. Respiratory Failure
3. Renal Failure
4. Liver Failure
5. No brain failure but management of the unconscious patient

The Shock or End Organ Failure was my favourite in later years as a pathologist, which I used to see under the microscope often in babies and infants without a diagnosis at hand.

Lately of course I migrated to interleukins in disarray.

In the private sector never had proper intensive care units now and then.

If they had they were poorly equipped with trained staff.

The medical institution I did my above observations did not have any.

The entry to the proposed emergency unit was permanently blocked by service lorries and it never functioned.

All the despairately sick we lumped together in a unit with absolutely no organisational principles.

Nobody wanted to take the responsibility and were shunted to the general hospital at the gate itself.

I took some interest and saved a young guy with Gillian Barre Syndrome or ascending encephaliomyelitis.

Three solid months of supervision and the duplicates of all his reports were with me.

I duly handed the duplicate file to the parents on discharge.

The hospital records were in tatters.

Incidentally university guy I befriends later had his surname and he told me that was his elder brother's son.

Life have many surprises!

NO MORE on this BLOG POST.
I go into hibernation!

Exit Stage

Exit Stage

This piece touches the tone of philosophy but has a little flavour of Buddhist outlook.

By the way, Buddhism is not a philosophy as propagated in the West but an advanced life style not seen in the Capitalistic World.

My animal.analogy is the most appropriate to describe the current human tragedy exposed by a tiny but powerful m or t RNA virus.

First 35 years is the dog stage where one tries to achieve his or her goal but many fail  in this exercise and settle in the highest level of incompetency, where as described in Banking Principles (Peter Principle) one settles in his or her highest level of competency.
There is no upward climb but usually a downward slide.

The next level is the donkey stage and one only does the delegated work of his or her superior but boring nevertheless.
This lasts for 35 years.

The third stage is the Bird Stage (I entered this well before 70) where one reflects on self and on others and basically non judgemental.
An extremely difficult to achieve if one is married.

The birds are the best example where they are either in the free stage chirping on the tree tops or in escape mode from the seasonal rain, monsoon in particular.

Our Mynar is the classic example where he/ she has a beautiful malady even on a rainy day.

A happy chirpy guy but equally dominating the atmosphere.

Very few humans can enter Bird Stage but they slip prematurely into the next stage which is the fox stage and remain their until one kicks the bucket.

This Bird Stage lasts for only 10 years and  one enters the vermin or fox stage, thereafter.

The worst of all and generally all World Top Politicians fall into this including President Biden.

My mother even went past this fox stage until 90s and luckily she passed away a decade before Coronavirus.

This I called the Bats Stage where one precariously hanging on to the failing heart or lung on a ventilator.

My advice for one is the kick the bucket well before entering this stage, since in Buddhist Samsara Cycle, the death is the beginning of another cycle but may not be human but lower down in the animal Kingdom.

Lot of our politicians end up there whatever the beneficial Karma, they try to acquire, (wearing the mantle of the head of state or Prime Minister post), or try to achieve by going from one papal tree to another.

Regards to the Buddhist monks of Ceylon, who literally over indulge in TV Banana Bana or sermens, most of them become TV stars in their next life usually in Bollywood and not in Hollywood due to the lack of their competence to put Dhamma to the Western audience crisp and clear in English.

One should not apply this to married life and one is either in dog stage or donkey stage eternally.

This piece will exit me from the Internet.

I am in Bird Stage anyway and watching Internet is boring now that Biden is up there,  boring to say the least to see him hugging to a dog.

He should enter the donkey stage where he was for 45 years and was very comfortable.

Happy Mind and Solitude

The complete Faith in the system one believes,
An absolute Mindful Focus on the task at hand,
The Shame of discovery of shady deeds
The Fear of doing the  wrong deeds
No Greed at all for any gain,
No trace of Hate or envy,
The balance and Equanimity of the mind culture,
Tranquility,
Lightness.
Malleability,
The Quality of Performance,
The Steadfast Control of a given circumstance,
An Upright Mind (Rectitude) are the most beautiful accompaniment of Happy State or Solitude.

Then one need not have to isolate oneself in a meditative stance.

The Meditative Trance makes one to be born in a happy state of existence but without total realization.

The Insight or Vision comes from the understanding of the Truth of the Three States of Flux.

Anitta
Dukka
Anatta or NO Soul entity.

The Fourth and the most important is the Realization or Understanding of the State of Flux of all Conditional Things.

Beautiful Factors of the Mind Base

This is coming from Abhidhamma.
Hold fast and digest.
Abhidhamma is an exegesis and classic academic exercise.
It loves classification in duality but lacks practical application.
So I would simplify the factors.
Before that I will highlight the most important factor.
It is called thatramanjjhattata.
This Pali word has no synonym but the closest is equanimity.
But it has three features of impartiality, detachment and balance of mind and its accompaniments.
These three factors makes the mind uniformly happy and peaceful which all politicians of all shades lack and inculcate the same feeling of madness on the livid followers.
The beautiful mind is well balanced and devoid of prejudices.
The opposite is the recently concluded American election reporting by CNN and Fox News.
That is the nearest of the barbaric instinct of mankind presenting as lovely and favourable but quiet the opposite of reality but brings hate, disrespect and unhappiness.

1. Balanced peaceful mind is beautiful.

2. Trust and Faith in reality (politicians are vulgar) is another beautiful expression of mind.

3. Presence of mind or attention to task at the moment is a beautiful mind.

4. Fear of doing wrong

5. Absence of greed

6. Absence of hate

7. Balanced mind described above

8. Tranquility

9.  Lightness

10. Muduta or the malleability

11. Wieldiness or firmness of the mind

12.  Quality and proficient action of mind

13.  Rectitude or the uprightness of the mind

These are all shades of beautiful states of mind that need constant attention and cultivation.

One cannot achieve this by only meditation but by constant attention to vagaries of the mind and bringing it into focus, the reality at the present moment, not before, not in the future but now  now of the present now we only have to live with.

This Earth is Precious

All American including immigrants should read this.

This land America belonged to Red Indians and where are they now?

No different to Aboregenes in White Australia?

White man including church men are hypocrites and wherever they land they leave a trace of wanton destruction.

He (now the yellow man of China) is the major contributor to the sixth extinction which we are currently marching and embracing aggressively.

In 1984 the Great White Chief in Washington made an offer for a large area of Indian Land and promised a Reservation for the Red Indian people.

Chief Seattle's reply reproduced here in full is a classic in American history.

It is described as the most beautiful and profound statement on the environment ever made.

The Paris accord becomes a bogus record and would pale into insignificance by many a mile.

Instead of signing it, President Biden should have sent a few phrases of this statement to the European Commission.

Whatbthe white man has done globally is irrepairable and with global warming in its peak, the rhetoric and grand speeches have no value but real action on the ground needs to be done and the world have to make sure China fall in line with principles and prevent it becoming the global enemy number one.
By the way,  with virus as a gift we have to  pay through our noses for the wanton destruction, not only in China but wherever it undertakes globally expansion of its influence.

President Biden should not let China a  Scot Free Ride.

TEXT

How can you buy or sell sky, the warmth of the land?

This idea is strange to us.

If we do not own the freshness of the air and sparkle of the water how can you buy them?

ALL SACRED
Every part of the earth is sacred to my people.
Every shining pine needle, every sandy show, every mist in the dark woods, every clearing and the humming insect is holy in the memory and experience of my people. The sap which courses through the trees carries the memories of the Red Man.
The white man's dead forget the country of their birth when they go to walk among the stars.
Our dead never forget this beautiful earth, for it is the mother of the Red Man.
We are part of the earth and it is part of us.
The perfumed flowers are our sisters and the deer, the horse, the great eagle, these are our brothers.
The rocky crests, juices of the meadows, the body heat of the pony and man --- all belong to the same family.

NOT EASY
So when the Great Chief in Washington sends words that he wishes to buy our land, he asks much of us.
The Great Chief sends word he will reserve us a place so that we can live comfortably to ourselves.
He will be our father and we will be his children.
So we will consider your offer to buy our land.
But it will not be easy.
For this land is sacred to us.
This shining water that moves in the streams and rivers is just not water but the blood of our ancestors.
If we sell you land, you must remember that it is sacred and you must teach your children that it is sacred and each ghostly reflection in the clear water of the lakes tells of events and memories in the life of my people.
The water's murmur is the voice of my father's father.

KINDNESS
The rivers are our brothers, they quench our thirst.
The rivers carry our canoes and feed our children. If you sell you our land you must remember and teach your children that the rivers are our brothers and yours and you must henceforth give the rivers the kindness you give your brother.
We know that the white man does not understand our ways.
One portion of land is same to him as the next, for he is stranger who comes in the night and takes from the land whatever he needs.
The earth is not his brother but his enemy and when he has conquered it he moves on to the next.
He leaves his father's grave behind and he does not care.
He kidnaps the earth from his children and he does not care.
His father's grave and children's birthright are forgotten.
He treats his mother the earth and his brother the sky as things to be bought, plundered, sold like sheep or bright heads.
His appetite will devour the earth and leave behind only a desert.
I do not know.
Our ways are different from your ways.
The sight of your cities pain the eyes of the Red Man.
Perhaps, it is because the Red Man is a savage and does not understand.
There is no quiet place in the white man's cities.
No place to hear unfurling of leaves in the spring or the rustle of an insect wing.
But perhaps, it is because I am a savage and do not understand.
The clatter only seems to insult the ears.
And what there to life if a man cannot hear the lonely cry of the whippoorwill or the argument of the frogs round the pond at night?

I am Red Man and I do not understand.

Indians prefer the soft sound of the wind darting over the face of a pond and the smell of the wind itself, cleaned by the midday rain or scented with pinon pine.

PRECIOUS
The air is precious to Red Man, for all things share the same breath---the beast, the tree, the man, they all share the same breath.

The white man does not seem to notice the air he breathes.

Like a man dying for many days, he is numb to the stench.

But if we sell you our land, you must remember that the air is precious to us, that air shares it's spirit with all the life it supports.

The wind that gave our grandfather his first breath also received his last breath.

And if we sell our land you must keep it apart sacred as a place where even the white man is sweetened by the meadow's flowers.

ONE CONDITION
So we will consider your offer to buy our land.
If we decide to accept I will make one condition.

The white man must treat the beasts of this land as his brothers.

I am a savage and I do not understand any other way.

I have seen thousand rotting buffaloes on the prairies left by the white man (big question who is the savage, if not the white man as shown in America today) who shot them from a passing train.

I am a savage I do not understand how the smoking iron horse can be more important than the buffalo we kill to stay alive.

What is man without beasts?

If all beasts were gone, man would die of great loneliness of spirit.

For whatever happens to the beasts soon happens to man.

All things are considered.

THE ASHES
You must teach your children the ground beneath their feet is the ashes of your grandfahers.
So they will respect the land, tell the children the land is rich with lives of your kin.
Teach your children what we have taught our children, that the earth is our mother.

Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth.

If men spit upon the earth they spit upon themselves.

This we know.

The earth does not belong to man.
Man belongs to the earth.

This we know.

All things are connected like the blood which unites one family.
All things are connected.

Whatever befalls the earth befalls on sons of the earth.

Man did not weave the web of life (neither the god did); he is merely a strand in it.

Whatever, he does to the web, does to himself.

Even the white man's God who walks and talks with him as a friend to friend cannot be exempt from the common destiny.

We may be brothers afterall.

We shall see.

One thing we know which the white man may one day discover--- our God is the same god.

You may think now that you may own Him by your wish, but to own our land cannot.

He is the god of the man and His commission is equal to the Red Man and the white.

The earth is precious to Him and to harm the earth is to heap contempt on its creator.

The whites too shall pass sooner than of other tribes.

The Coronavirus is the kill all solution to the white man's problems.

Contaminate your bed and one night you suffocate in your own waste.

But in your perishing you will shine brightly, fired by the strength of the God who brought you to this land and for some special purpose save your dominion over this land and over the Red Man.

That destiny is mystery to us, for we do not understand, when the buffaloes are slaughtered and wild horses are tamed, the secret corners of the forest heavy with scent of men and the view of the ripe hills blotted by talking wires.

Where is the thickest. GONE.

Where is the eagle. GONE.

The end of living and beginning of survival.

Who is a Doctor and who can hold the Title Dr.?

Who is a Doctor and who can hold the Title Dr.?

This is a reproduction from New York Times
Being myself a Medical Person D.P.T.O (Do not Practice and Teach Only) who can use this two letters and the dot for many reasons, avoid using it, doctor part in my life for the last 10 years and it has made my life very easy and simple.
In fact on of my neighbors asked me are you really a doctor to which I smiled and did not give an answer, making him more confused.
Most of the guys/girls who know me come for second opinion, I am more than willing to oblige.
But free of charge and they do get better with simple remedies.
I have few emergency tablets in my purse always for such and eventuality, just in case.
I totally agree with this gentleman and I am more than grateful to him for bringing to notice what ever the PhD one holds if it is not relevant to the (if it is not germane to the holder’s primary current occupation) post currently holding it should not be used as a label of distinction.
After all the PhD may be 30 years old and disproved by at least three times  over that period of time  if it was a good one to tag one’s own thesis.
I am in fact currently finishing a book (which actually was a 10 year research work ) and I have decided  not to put that for PhD referral or title and would share it with the general public.
If somebody gives a PhD posthumously for this creative work , the funeral director can put a single copy in my coffin before cremation so that it goes to heaven or hell with me.
Who’s a Dr.?
Our continued use of courtesy titles — increasingly rare in the news media — prompts many questions. Rules on the use of “Dr.” in particular can lead to confusion, for readers and unfortunately sometimes for our writers. Here’s our style book entry:
Dr. should be used in all references for physicians and dentists whose practice is their primary current occupation, or who work in a closely related field, like medical writing, research or pharmaceutical manufacturing: Dr. Alex E. Baranek; Dr. Baranek; the doctor. (Those who practice only incidentally, or not at all, should be called Mr., Ms., Miss or Mrs.) Anyone else with an earned doctorate, like a Ph.D. degree, may request the title, but only if it is germane to the holder’s primary current occupation (academic, for example, or laboratory research).
For a Ph.D., the title should appear only in second and later references. The holder of a Ph.D. or equivalent degree may also choose not to use the title.
Do not use the title for someone whose doctorate is honorary.

Demise of Prof. Senaka Bible is a conspiracy

Demise of Prof. Senaka Bible is a conspiracy

This is a reproduction and I tend to believe the circumstances.
The story then was the poison was put in wine by an air hostess and there was inadvertent delay in seeking medical aid.

The same company conduct an annual oration in his name (good old American Methodology, similar to Area 51).

He was my teacher and he is probably reborn in a another alien planet and I believe aliens have advised him not to visit this planet again.

Professor Bibile died in 1977 at Guyana, under mysterious circumstances.

The section regarding his death is being consistently removed from Wikipedia by an unknown entity, each time someone updates it.
It is a well known 'secret' that Dr Bibile was murdered by inducing cardiac arrest using a drug(s) that has been available, even before second world war.

One of his colleagues were involved in the murder to ensure that he would not recover from the 'heart attack' by not taking prompt action as well as taking the wrong cause of action as well as a delayed cause of action to recover him.

As a matter of fact, this doctor colleague of doctor Bibile from UNO, asked Mrs Bibile for her forgiveness for letting him die that way, implying that he was simply a tool for corrupted multinational drug companies, in which she replied, "If you can bring him back, then I will forgive you".
Known multinational pharmaceutical companies were involved in Professor Bibile's murder.

The truth will come out one day as it happens all the time.

No Dog for Christmas

No Dog for Christmas

I should rephrase it no “Puppy as a gift” for Christmas.

If you really love puppies please download Puppy Linux;

The creator of this Linux distribution is a real dog lover.

Not only that Puppy Linux is Puppy size (one need to have some understanding about Linux, though) but loaded with utilities.

I can have a list of reasons of more than 20 but on top are two real life stories.

This happened more than 30 years in the United Kingdom.

I was heavily involved with Neonatal Paediatric care then.

I was on weekend off and listening to some music (Terry Vogan was my favourite Irish announcer) and radio (not Terry) announced the tragic death of a baby few days old (the day the happy family brought the baby home), mauled to death by the owners pet dog.

The police came an shot the dog but the baby did not survive.

The bottom line is the dogs can be extremely jealous of a new comer, including babies.

This happened about 10 days before Christmas and that was the only Christmas that I could not blend with the Christmas spirit.

All throughout the festive season the message was relayed "No Puppy as a pet, if one cannot care for".

Underline theme was that baby care is full time job and dog care is no different.

The bone of contention here is, the doctor/s could have visited the house and made some investigations of the suitability of the house for a newborn baby with an adult dog.

The second incident was, one of my old (80 plus) professors forearm was torn to pieces and needed over 40 stitches.

He was terrified and the dog, his own, was not killed but transferred to a suitable foster home.

He was living alone and we never investigated the reason for the attack.

So my recommendation;

One has to be 40 to 45 years (does not matter one is married or not) old, to properly care for dog who lives till the owner is 60 plus and showing all the signs of old age disabilities.

This the crisis period in life, the children are teens and won't listen to you.

The dog is an outlet to divert ones attention from growing but rebellious kids.

The paradox is the children also use the dog as a “Punching Bag” to let their frustration out.

For a single man or women (the success or failure in career is immaterial) it is good companion.

To brag about the dog (if successful in career) not the career in office.

The dog lives 15 to 20 years and for a single man /woman walking the dog (for the last 15 years of one's life) is a good antidote for intermittent exogenous depression (not for the endogenous depression, one needs proper treatment).

Besides, the dog ages fast and it is a preview of ones old age chronic illnesses, including arthritis, cataract, diabetes, obesity, gout and many more.

Mind you dog care is more expensive than medical care in USA/UK and France.

Best advice is not have a dog at all if YOU do not have Money and Time!

Please do not be enticed by the Christmas films involving dogs but enjoy the film instead.
