Plight of Ranjan Ramanayake

Ranjan Ramanayake went to prison on the 22-01-2021 for 4 years.

He was pardoned on the the 20-08-2022 after 17 months in prison.

Devoting a few lines on his behalf is timely.

He went to prison using his Freedom to Express (speak) without inhibition.

Contempt of court was his prejudice.

He did not have formal education.

So his language was not polite.

He did not want to apologise for a lesser sentence.

It is a mighty judiciary.

He tried to rectify his childhood faults by studying A Level as an adult.

He passed 4 subjects including English.

He failed in Christianity.

He is now qualified to enter Law College.

I hope he would be successful in his law college examination and become a lawyer.

It is an uphill task for him, in his adult life.

But it is doable!

If he fails first time round,  he should try again like a persevering spider on the roof.

One can make use of prison life constructively.

Good example is Reverend Gnathiloka of German descent.
He was a German Jew.
During British time he was sent to prison in Goa.
His time in prison was well spent.
He translated Pali text into English and German.

His student Gnanapoinika translated classic meditation text SatiPattana.

Buddhist Publication Society is his creation.

Lot of people conspired to send Ranjan to prison.

He lost his parliament seat after 3 months.

He cannot enter politics again for a long period of time, due to the prison sentence.

He would have been an ideal candidate for the post of president with his  charm and (cinema) acting career.

If he writes a book on his prison life it won't sell.

Best career for him is law.

No current lawyer has tried to help him out of prison.

The law seems to favour criminals.

The lawyers become rich because of criminals and Ceylon is a country of criminals.

Thay is why I wish NOT to be born again in Ceylon.
